The Best Wine Tasting Rooms in Santa Barbara - AFAR

"This communal tasting room represents five local wineries under one roof and is designed as an educational hub: knowledgeable staff lead single-winery or single-varietal tastings or craft curated flights to illustrate how terroir and microclimates across the county produce markedly different wines, sometimes from vineyards only yards apart." - Georgia Freedman

We throughout enjoyed our tastings at the wine collective. The gentleman helping us was very friendly and knowledgable in the wines that were part of the red and white tastings. It was great getting to taste from many of the different producers in the local area. The selection was very solid and even the wines we didn’t like as much were still well made. The atmosphere was nice and the tasting area is in a fun part of town. Overall, I would recommend doing a tasting here.

Went here for my girlfriends birthday. We had the red flight and the women wine makers flight. They were both fantastic. The ambiance was nice. Rustic, outdoorsy but still classy and elegant in its own way. But the BEST PART of the experience in my opinion was Matthew. He was helping us out at the bar and he was so nice. Super friendly and professional. Not to mention how knowledgeable he was about the wine. Guy really knows his stuff. So thanks Matthew! Keep up the great work man

Google
Casual wine pairings showcasing regional wines from the area. Our server was a professional sommellier who gave us a lot of info and guidance during our wine tasting session last June 2024. The food pairing reco was spot on as well. During the mornings the wine bar also serves as a bakery. The place is tasteful, relaxing, and roomy with a crafted industrial feel. A great place to unwind and chill with friends and to learn more about the wine culture.

Google
Well what a treat! We have walked by a few times and never pulled in. What a mistake that was. An amazing atmosphere, an amazing selection of local wines and to top it off Savanah was a wealth of knowledge and displayed it in such a professional and refreshing way. The cheeses were also fabulous, great job. We will be back and will bring others! Thank you.

Marissa Snyder

Google
Savannah was AMAZING and gave us such incredible recommendations on wine to take home that we didn't taste based on our thoughts on the flights we tried. A+ service & wines all around <3

Had a nice private event here. The wait staff was nice, but for how many worked the event, they were not very on top of missing silverware/napkins. Food served with nothing to eat it with repeatedly. An area to improve but a nice overall experience. If you have any hearing issues, it was loud. The live music, combined with the size group we had, as well as background kitchen noise (blender) was a little challenging. Compliments to the chef though! Each dish was lovely. Reviews were only hit or miss on the dessert.

Google
It has a nice, hipster vibe. They showcase a number of local wineries which can be hit or miss. The wait staff can be cordial and knowledgeable enough but I wouldn't say they were friendly. There is an axxcess BOGO deal here if you have a card.

Google
Our server let us taste anything we wanted before ordering the perfect glass of wine. It wasn't crowded at the time and it was my birthday, so maybe that is why. He was super nice, knowledgeable and there was a wonderful selection of wines to choose from! We all enjoyed our wines with our lunch!
google avatar

Val G.

Yelp
Had a glass of wine while we waited for our table next door. Was not super impressed with the selections but our waiter was really nice. It was late so we could not find any of their breads or appetizer options.

Yelp
This place has one of the prettiest patios I've ever sat on. Surrounded by gorgeous flowers and plants, it makes for the perfect outside experience. I tasted a wine flight and my husband had a glass of wine all while my toddler played with one of the many available games. While not a winery, they offer wine from all over. I found the wine to be delicious and even took home a bottle!
google avatar

Yelp
This is a really cool spot and they have a TON of great wines from local wineries. We each had different tastings and enjoyed both, and we did a cheese platter that was great. The service was efficient and she was able to answer our questions. There was a terrific musician playing guitar and singing, and she was perfect for the space and experience. Recommended if you're in the area, as you have a chance to taste a number of wines, many of which seem to be boutique labels that you won't see in retail locations or that may not even have a tasting room of their own.

Yelp
Love this place! Great wine selection, honest recommendations, and good snacks. Also, the service is very friendly. The employees are knowledgeable and helpful in explaining the wine selections. Thank you Shar for a wonderful experience.

Breann S.

Yelp
The wine selection, cheese selection, and staff are truly top tier here. I visited twice on the same weekend as they truly give a holistic view of the diversity of Santa Barbara wines and wine styles. I cannot recommend this place more.

Yelp
Santa Barbara Wine Collective is an absolute gem! Fantastic and modestly priced wines, great ambiance, wonderful staff, and live music on weekends. (Also delicious coffee beverages at Helena Ave Bakery next door!) If I lived in SB, I'd be a regular here. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Santa Barbara Wine Collective is a gold mine for the wine curious. After one step through the roll up doors you know why. BTG pours, flights and a wine wall of Santa Barbara's best terroir driven wines made by the area's signature best, family owned wineries. Y'all aren't gonna find this especially curated, intentionally lovely inventory on the wine wall at Target - nor does it belong there. For the average Costco shopping fanboy, SBWC employs knowledgeable & hospitable team members there to guide your pours, talk through non-major varietals, and explain placements on the list. For the authentic oenophile, the vast selection of high quality, limited quantity, terroir driven educational tastings will be too hard to resist. The list is mentally stimulating and truly approachable for those who know. If you hold your wine glass by the bowl and regularly gulp "The Prisoner" or any other OS-Gallo / Constellation / commercial brand wines, there is a great chance nothing on this list will be recognizable to you. For me - it intellectually fantastic and a favorite must-stop while on the Cali Coastline.

Yelp
We were in the Funk Zone of Santa Barbara trying to decide which winery to go into and came upon the Santa Barbara Wine Collective. The winery & the Helena Bakery are in the same building. They Funk Zone in Santa Barbara is a section of approximately 3 to 4 blocks of wineries, shops, art buildings plus a few restaurants, cafes' On any given night this place comes alive with live bands with fire pits and people having a good time. This is a great place to come do some wine tasting. We had a GREAT hostess named, Ellen! She was amazing, loved all of the knowledge that she shared with us!!! We tried 4 different wines averaging cost $24.00 for the series. We would select one of the favorites in the series so we picked one and enjoyed it in the outside patio where they have heating lamps and umbrellas. Overall had a great experience here, plan to return.

Yelp
Good Food and good Wine at great price and amazing ambiance. The service is outstanding, and they had live music - jazz style is perfect for this cozy place.

Yelp
I am obsessed. Will have to say had such a great experience here and did a good job putting together the wine flights for the Rosè flight, my faves was the Tatomer. Wish they had the actual flights for photos but we were just poured by the hostess after every pairing. Our host was really sweet she even let us have a extra splash of our favorite one. Will be coming back again! Loved the cute openness of the place and you get the free music from Fig next door. Not a fan of the penville wine on the rose flight they could def switch that one out for something else.

Yelp
Came here and ordered five aperol spritz for the table. We like a good aperol especially on a hot day, however, we were so disappointed with how the aperol spritz tasted. The ratio was off and the drinks tasted only like pure aperol. We actually didn't end up finishing them and ended up walking out. I gave this spot 3 stars because it is a cute spot and has a good ambiance. If I ever come back i would just order wine, definitely not a cocktail

Yelp
I really hate that I have to write this and give SB Wine Collective 2 stars, however when something happens to ruin your whole time there, really offsets the rest of your experience. Tucked behind Figueroa Brewing and Helena Ave Bakery by day/wine by night, SB Wine Collective has an amazing selection and choices for everyone. The woman who helped us was generous by allowing me to try something until I found what I liked, going as far to suggest wines for me for my particular taste. Very nice ambiance and games to keep you entertained in their patio. What went wrong though? As we were playing a game, my friend accidentally knocked over the wine glass in which the pieces came in (imo poor choice as I'm sure tipsy guests do this often). As staff came to help clean up, my poor puppy was pretty scared and began barking at the mop as I tried to calm him down. This literally took no more than 3 minutes time and we were apologetic that we broke the glass, the woman who was kind enough to say "no problem happens all the time". But now- the manager decided to come and give us a lecture on how my dog whom everyone kept coming up to to pet was a bother and he received complaints and that I needed to "take care of the situation". Talk about a total buzz kill- literally. I was more in shock as this place had tons of people talking, women on the other side laughing screaming, and customers who kept coming to my pet to pet him without permission. Yet WE got reprimanded. When I went after to talk to the manager saying I did not appreciate his tone or attitude , he proceeded with more lecturing and tales of how his own dogs barks followed by what he does in the situation. Then when I said it had only been a few minutes, he had the audacity to tell me "seriously? It's been 20 minutes your dog had been barking." Not only was that incorrect, it was out of line. To be fair, I completely understand his perspective of keeping other people happy, but the tone and overall experience left a bad taste in my mouth, especially for a winery.... So if you decide to go, in all honestly decent place, but felt pretty snooty snoot to me in the end.

Yelp
Great spot in the funk zone. The flights were really good. We got the rose and sparkling ones. This place shares a space with Helen bakery whose menu looks delicious. The staff was really friendly and helpful. The patio was so spacious. The location was right in the mix of everything. Right off state street. Highly recommend it!

Yelp
Terrible service. Don't waste your time. Their offerings were interesting, but we sat and were not acknowledged for at least 15 minutes. When an employee walked by, we said hello - she said hi back and walked on by. Understanding that many establishments are short staffed currently, we would have been completely understanding, if anyone had bothered to engage us. But they did not... so we left.

Yelp
Nice little hidden spot. Quality selection of local and foreign wines. Happened to go on a day with live music, performer was really good! Dog friendly patio and you can bring In food. Would definitely go back!

Yelp
I love Trivia Night on Wednesdays and the impeccable service I receive from Sharlene on ANY day. 5 Stars!

Yelp
Great place to enjoy some wine. Came here with my lover and we enjoyed ourselves. No reservation needed. Tried 4- red and 4- white whines. The flight total for the 8 was $52.10. The staff is knowledgeable on the wine and they maintain their cleanliness. Overall great experience here!

Yelp
This was our first stop in Santa Barbara. Hannah, our server, was great!! I decided to do the chocolate pairing. Nice!! My favorites were that Cabernet Sauvignon and the Petite Syrah. Don't miss this gem on State Street.

Yelp
What a great place. My wife and I discovered it on our stay-cation in SB. Loved it. The waitress was awesome and knowledgeable about the wines. The selection was great, prices are good as well considering the wines. All good. It's co-located at Helena Ave Bakery...another awesome breakfast joint in SB. Have a late breakfast and walk across the room to SB wine collective...their offerings will not disappoint.

Yelp
Just visited this spot today. Super disappointed. The woman (blond chick) that was there was NOT friendly, did not say anything to use unless we ask questions. She seem to HATE her job. There were no customer service from her, just very standoffish, she just looked miserable. I had to ask her, tell me more about the wine you carry, wow really? It's like trying to get more info out of her. Usually a reply like, "What type of wine do you usually like, red or white?" If you like red, you may want to try ................, if you like white on a dryer side, I would recommend ............... NOTHING from the staff. Said nothing until we asked, but when we did ask, gave us a hall ass answer. We tried the Chariot flights and the Empress Flight. Not impress with the empress flight but the Chariot flight was better. After that we had to bus our own table. I tip very generously but this visit was so disappointing, that a zero tip was very worthy. Your attitude is a zero therefore you get a 0. I would not return nor recommend.

Yelp
We had a two for one coupon that was given to us at the local visitor's center just around the corner. The gentlemen that served us was quite informative, explaining to us that several wineries had their wines here instead of an individual tasting room. We tried the line up from Fess Parker, and we liked it so much, they told us all about the winery. We ended up driving up there from Santa Barbara the next day. I enjoyed the atmosphere in here as well. Very friendly staff. This is a good place to start you wine tasting experience in Santa Barbara.

Yelp
First time visit to The Santa Barbara Wine Collective, here in the Funk Zone in beautiful Santa Barbara. Housed in a open spacious industrial building, which was formerly a fish processing warehouse. Five wineries offer tastings and wines by the glass here (Babcock, Ca' Del Grevino, Fess Parker, Hilt, and Notary Public) and you can select a variety or producer wine flight or wines by the glass. Lindsey and Katie were onsite this afternoon and were friendly and informative while pouring out wines. Helena Avenue Bakery is housed in the same building, and offers a small but delicious selection of breakfast items, salads and sandwiches ...the freshly baked breads are sooo good...

Yelp
By far my favorite place to spend an afternoon wine tasting with my lover. The variety offered here is like none other, my favorite is Jonata. If you work up an appetite they have a neighboring bakery which is convenient. The employees here are also great and have extensive information to offer about the wine your guzzling :) If you are a wine drinker make sure to make some space for the collective. -They also host private events if you are interested it would make a beautiful location to host any event.

Yelp
This was a solid 5 star place for me. I must agree with other reviews, that this is one of the best spots in the funk zone. I was super impressed with their tasting menus! Yes, multiple menus! We decided to go for the "Notary Public" tasting, $12. We started with the chilled Chenin Blanc, and another white with a buttery finish. I savored these as the day was hot and we sat directly in front of a blasting fan. Our help was friendly and outgoing, plus he gave great remarks about each wine he poured. Next, we tried a few Cabernet Sauvignons - which are so difficult to enjoy when its warm out, even though we were indoors. This stunning, rustic and trendy industrial tasting room was also equipped with not only bar seating, it had a communal table, smaller tables, a pastry case and open kitchen to order from and outside seating. For those that need water during your tasting (like us), there is a large self-serve container with mason jars by the entrance! I loved that we weren't rushed, and most of the large-bachelorette-type crowds had left so the environment was extremely enjoyable. I will definitely be coming back!

Yelp
We love coming here for a tasting whenever we make it to Santa Barbara. The staff here is super nice and helpful. Love their featured wines and always can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Great fun spot for wine tasting and nosh. Pleasant staff & if the bakery is closed you can have food from Lucky Penny brought over

Andrea L.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this place on a Wednesday by accident and stayed for trivia night. Gotta say, had an absolute blast. The host was on fire, the format was so cool and the drinks were tasty! Ordered Lucky Penny pizza from next door.

Yelp
Great spot with healthy pours. I stopped by here on Saturday night and had a glass of wine and enjoyed the live music. It stared to fill up around 9 but before that there was room to get a table and or dance. Great selection with knowledgeable and friendly staff.

Yelp
Awful! Completely unwelcoming. Have been coming there for 5 straight years on our annual visit from the east coast for our kick-off our wine tasting trip. This year we did 2 tastings and purchased 6 bottles ($420) and they did not comp even 1 tasting fee. Past years they comp'ed the tastings when we purchased less. Not this year, the awful manager who was glued to her laptop and did not even look up at us the entire time just shook her head "no" when asked for a comp. Not a word spoken to us. Felt completely unwelcome and they have lost a customer permanently. Will never, ever go back to that place. Also skipping the attached bakery at restaurant because if their behavior. DONE! No wonder the place was empty during happy hour. Terrible management.
google avatar

Yelp
Great atmosphere-too notch service -tasty bites. Was here for a private event last night. We were impressed with the esthetic of the collective, the wait staff was friendly and courteous, the wines offered ample-bar set-up well supplied. Definitely a unique area of Santa Barbara-well situated off State Street. Lively and fun environment
google avatar

Shannon D.

Yelp
This review is for the wine club only. I have never encountered a more incompetent wine manager in my life. I am a member of multiple wine clubs, and this is by far the worst manager I have ever dealt with. I have been trying to have a fairly minor issue resolved for over 2 months now, and the manager continues to ignore me. I am not sure why such a simple thing is taking so long to resolve. Basic customer service is, if you say you're going to do something, do it. I will say, the wines here are great, so if you want to go in and taste, go for it, but whatever you do, do NOT join the wine club. If I am having this many problems with a small issue, I can't even begin to imagine what a nightmare it would be if there was any major issue.
google avatar

Sean S.

Yelp
Horrible customer service ruined it all. Too busy pouring wine for their friends and other workers to have time to service paying customers. Came in 30 minutes prior to close and could barely get the time of day from the gentlemen behind the bar. Again he had plenty of time to chat with his co-workers and friends. You easily tell by the attitude that they had no interest in serving us were already checked out and that we walked in and ruined there little private party. No information on the wineries they represent, the wines they sell, or wine clubs, etc. Here's a menu but I prefer you just leave because I'm busy drinking wine and BSing with my friends. What a joke! Totally unprofessional.
google avatar

Cheyenne R.

Yelp
Great environment, great selection of flights (starting at $15 up to $23 of something). Our somme was detailed and knowledgeable and easy on the eyes, so we were pleased with the service. Wish they had flights that were all red or all white.

Mark T.

Yelp
We had an amazing time wine tasting here. And the bakery attached was amazing too. Their wine and the cheese board paired well together and made for a great experience. Marina was outstanding too! She explained all of the wines in great detail. She gave us other suggestions to do while in SB. We ended up going back to try more wines because she was so great. Can't wait to go back again.

Hunter L.

Yelp
Great wine selection. Good atmosphere. Would recommend to anyone looking for a glass of wine or a wine flight
google avatar

Krista B.

Yelp
We decided to stop here after seeing it was one of the top 3 wineries in the funk zone. It is very spacious and there are a lot of tables. Helena Bakery is also located inside of it which is a huge perk since most of the other places around don't serve food. We got a table and after looking at their tasting options decided to just grab a glass of wine instead. The service was extremely slow, I went up to the bar to order and they were busy, so I didn't expect fast service but it took them forever to even acknowledge me. When one of the bartenders finally came over I ordered the Fess Parker Rose. He asked it I wanted it sparkling or dry and I opted for sparkling. It was definitely a good rose but it was $18 for a glass! That threw me off a little, on the menu they had 2 roses, one was $10 and one was $12, I guess since I asked for sparkling it was way more expensive. If I would have known I would have just gotten the dry one. My friend got a Riesling and she liked it, nothing special but a good wine for sure. The only reason I'd come back here is because they have the food, otherwise I'd rather go somewhere where the service is better and the prices are more within the $10/glass range.

M L.

Yelp
Great little spot in the Funk Zone for a glass of wine. There also happened to be trivia the night we visited, and we really enjoyed the whole experience. The servers know their stuff when it comes to wine, and they were pleasant and helpful. Highly recommend the Stolpman 'La Cuadrilla"!
google avatar

Hilary D.

Yelp
Somehow everytime we visit the Funk Zone, it seems there's some new nook of this building opening as some other wonderful space. Welcome to the Santa Barbara Wine Collective where you can get a variety of wine flights from their partner vineyards (2 vineyards for now, soon to be 6) while perusing a fantastically curated home goods store. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and fun. The housewares are well-chosen and encompass a wide range of prices and pieces. This would be a great place to find hostess gifts and Christmas presents alike. On our visit we enjoyed a reserve Babcock flight that was pretty damn good and took home a couple of bottles to enjoy. We were told they would be expanding in January to include a bakery and cafe and I can't wait to see how great that ends up. In the meantime, stop in for a tasting and some great gifts for yourself and others.

Yelp
What a fantastic venue. We came here on a lovely sunny afternoon. Since there were five of us, we sat at the a table and Christian took wonderful care of us. We each had different flights as suggested by him after asking our preferences. At the same times we nibbled on several baguettes from the bakery which shares the space. It is rare to see such outstanding service!
google avatar

Brad B.

Yelp
Excellent laid back wine room. Great tasting options from some of the more boutique juice makers in this area. Out hostess "Katie" was amazing, sweet, smart and very flexible on pacing. Thank you. Bakery next door is an awesome touch to add to your tasting with fresh baguettes, hummus, cheese selection, etc. Great place to spend an hour, afternoon or day
google avatar

Laura B.

Yelp
Zero stars if I could. This place really snubbed us. For my & my mom's birthday (yes it's the same day), we had purchased a self-guided walking wine tour of Santa Barbara which included a deal at this tasting room. When we arrived and stated the name of the tour that we were on and presented the voucher (via mobile app), we were informed that they were no longer honoring that deal. This was very surprising considering we had only purchased the tour a couple days prior. They could have easily honored the deal and taken it up with the tour company afterwards. There were only 2 of us with the tour in our group of 5; it wouldn't have hurt them so much just to be courteous and do the kind thing. If they had, the others in our group would have purchased more from them. Instead, all five of us left disappointed. Happy birthday to us, huh?

Yelp
I brought my daughters here for some fun wine tasting and was very disappointed in the service. They were extremely slow and not very friendly. Great wine, but horrible service.
google avatar

Mary Beth L.

Yelp
This is my favorite tasting room in the Funk Zone. It is a cool contemporary industrial space for some wine tasting with an impressive tasting menu. If you are lucky enough to attend their special brunches in collaboration with chefs and wineries you are indeed in for an exquisite treat! Also, I always keep in mind exemplary service - the manager, Alexandro, distinguishes this tasting room with his personal touch of excellence.
google avatar

Daisy C.

Yelp
Came here a couple weeks ago with my fiancé on a wine tasting staycation. Great atmosphere to grab a glass (or bottle) of wine and relax. Came back in the morning for a quick bite. Both wine and food is exceptionally great. Can't wait to go back!

A P.

Yelp
The place is cute and in a good location. The flights looked attractive and they had a fun mix of things. However, I wouldn't know how it all tastes due to walking out before being served. Went on a Saturday with husband, and they had 2 people serving the bar and inside and outside. There were empty tables inside but the bar was full; it seemed busy but not slammed. No one greeted us, and after awhile when we went up to the bar we spent another 15 min. being ignored before someone saying "be right with you" in our vague direction. She seemed highly annoyed, but also working slowly. Another 10 min. passed and it became clear they wouldn't be with us any time soon, so we left. Everywhere else in the funk zone was busy that day but still managed to get us served, so something is off here with either staffing ratios or training.

K S.

Yelp
Warning big changes. Use to be greet. If you were a member of any of the wine clubs your membership covered tasting fee. Just like if you were at the winery. Not now.

Yelp
This Girls bridal shower was made beyond special by the extra special care and service of the wine server Lindsey and all the other amazing staff there! THE CHEESE PLATES were beautiful picture perfect and the pizzas that Lindsey help us decide on could not have been yummier... I am so grateful for this special day, and I could not more highly recommend, if ever having a special event....look no further..in the fun of the Funk Zone this place tops it! Oops forgot, did I mention you can smell homemade cinnamon buns being baked right in front of you, it was so fun to watch and to add to the fun of the day!!! 5 stars!!!##

Yelp
Best winery in SB hands down. I was looking for a place to go at night and the GM Alejandro suggested a great lounge called EOS. He also told us about an amazing taco bar in the Funkzone called Mony's. I would refer Alejandro to the mayor of Santa Barbara. If you ever need great wine and/or suggestions of all the good spots in town make sure to stop by SB Wine Collective in the Funk Zone

Yelp
Very nice and knowledgeable staff, pleasant atmosphere, and a great selection of wines from throughout the region. We just concluded a tasting with Thomas, the manager (I kept mistakenly calling him James... if you read this, I'm sorry). It was a great stop as we vacation for our anniversary, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. So much fun and great conversation. 5 stars, but we'd give 6 if we could.
