Santa Claus Holiday Village | Best places to stay in Lapland

"Just 5 minutes from Rovaniemi airport, 10 minutes to downtown Rovaniemi – and a two-minute walk to SantaPark (the lair of the real Santa Claus) – are the perfect place to stay for anyone travelling to see Santa with the kids. The family-friendly chalets are clean, simple and functional enough. Some have kitchenettes and a private sauna. But you’re really staying here for the activities on offer. During the holiday season, children’s activities such as crafts, baking and sledding are organised each day at the on-site Gingerbread Club. Staff can also help arrange reindeer, husky and snowmobile safaris, while boats, bikes and fishing equipment can be rented on site. The Ounasvaara ski centre, 2km away, offers downhill runs, a tobogganing trail, a kids’ run, three ski jumps and over 60 miles of excellent cross-country paths. " - Matthew Roach

Went to Lapland on a summer and since the glass igloos are not in season, this wonderful cottage was a very good option in the heart of Santa Claus Village. Loved the sauna inside the cabin. Truly enjoyed our stay. Plus, Aurora decided to show off her wonder that summer night.

I'm sure the place looks better with snow but we still enjoyed the festive decorations and atmosphere!. Christmas tree on the deck of our suite, Scandinavian Christmas candleabra in the window, decorations all over the lobby and restaurant, etc. While our suite was a five minute walk from the Village, it was well appointed, clean, comfortable. Didn't love that the shower flooded the bathroom and didn't love the view, but did enjoy everything else, including the two tvs, the well-equipped kitchen, the sauna. ||The included breakfast was just ok. Hot dishes were not great but the standard meats, cheeses, breads, pasties were fine. Plentiful, clean, well maintained.||The Staff at Reception were incredible--friendly, personable, so helpful. They went out of their way to make our stay comfortable and pleasant.

We had a fab stay at the Santa Clause Village Resort! ||Accommodation - We stayed in a 'Superior A Cottage.' These cottages are in 2 half's and share a front door that opens into a heated shared hallway with another door into each private cottage. (If you book both cottages for parties more than 4 people you can keep the private doors open to link them together.) The cottage was very clean and spacious enough for a family of 4 also very warm and cosy. The bed in the bedroom was very comfy but our children complained that the sofa bed was very uncomfortable due to springs sticking out. The sauna was a great addition and found the drying cupboard very useful! The bathroom also had a hairdryer and Straighteners in which is handy!||The included breakfast was plentiful, very tasty and the restaurant was nice and relaxed. The big mounds of snow piled around the cottages were great for sledging down and our children spent hours playing out! One night we were lucky enough to spot the northern lights as we were playing in the snow right outside the cottage!||The cottages are a 2 min walk into Santa Clause Village, yes the village can get very busy between about 11-4 once the coaches and day visitors arrive but the beauty of staying onsite is you can go first thing and later on and it truly is magical when it's quieter! Eating/drinking at the village is pretty pricey and there wasn't a lot of cooking facilities (fridge, hob, kettle) in the accommodation so we went to the shell garage every evening across the road (make sure you use the underpass) which considering its a garage had very decent food and great value for money!||Location - very convenient for the airport, 5 mins in a taxi! Not sure how much else is in walking distance but you can do most activities (santa, huskys, reindeer, snowmobile etc) at/from SCV and would recommend taking a taxi to ounasavaara walking trail!||I would definitely recommend a stay here!

We stayed in an iconic red cottage at Santa Claus Holiday Village for two nights. The check-in experience was positive—friendly staff and early access to our room. The iconic red cabins with flower boxes were charming, and the cottage included a private sauna, a basic kitchenette, and a decent breakfast spread. Unfortunately, the comfort ended there. The room was unbearably hot—28°C the first night and 31°C the second—with only a small fan that didn’t help. The window mesh was torn, letting bugs in, and we didn’t feel safe leaving it open overnight. Worst of all, there were no blackout curtains—just thin white blinds—which is unacceptable in a region with near-constant daylight during the summer. We left exhausted and disappointed. Sadly, we can not recommend staying here.

I booked this place in a fit of whimsy, somehow managing not to realize that this is very much a marketed-to-families experience. So, I would highly recommend it to families; definitely seems like it would be a lot of fun for young ones. Even as a single adult woman I had an enjoyable experience - most of the things to do around here if you don’t have children are souvenir shops, but they were interesting to look through, and I enjoyed feeding the reindeer. There are woods outside the town which I had fun hiking through, and you can see the tracks where the dogsledders go through. The room was fantastic and had its own private sauna, which was a wonderful experience and stress reliever after the place I had been immediately before this, and the staff was very helpful and kind. They had interesting candies in the souvenir shops, which kick started my salmiakki addiction. Overall, I would say it’s a nice place.

Accommodation - it's comfortable, nothing fancy, but it's clean and comfy. I like that the room has a sauna, coffee and tea facility, and a fully equipped kitchen. Although we didn't use the kitchen, it's still nice to have it. The bed is comfy and spacious, and the floor is heated.||I didn't like the location of the TV, which is above the bed. I just don't like the feeling of anything hanging above my head, but I understand the purpose. So when you're seated by the dining table, you'll be able to see the screen, but it's quite small considering the distance.||Another downside is privacy, while the windows are with red curtains. During the day, if you want some day light and open the curtains, I feel like I'm visible from people outside. Other than that, we had an amazing stay. ||

We arrived in June, part of its low season, so we were very happy to have a cottage upgrade and thoroughly enjoyed it. Although commercialized, we did enjoy the museums in the area and the roaming reindeer, as well as the midnight sun (when it didn't rain).

Great resort, even in summer. The staff was super nice, the room very clean (although quite hot). It's a great place to stay to enjoy cool activities and a taste of Lapland
