Santa Halal Food

I highly recommend this food truck, especially for Indonesians, Muslims, and anyone who enjoys spicy food. The spiciness here actually has a kick—more flavorful than most others I've tried. The prices are quite affordable, and the portions are generous. The lamb doesn't have a strong smell, it's crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The chicken is impressively moist—not dry or tough like you often find elsewhere. Definitely worth a try!

Someone should do a YouTube series blind tasting NYC halal carts; the “GOATs”, as the kids say, which includes Santa, all taste the same, and it’s a hot pile of meat. No one in their right mind would be able to tell the difference. It’s seasoned, portions are respectable, and menu is affordable. My combo gyro was $7.99, despite the menu stating $6.99. Not complaining, but Santa should probably update the sign to avoid any confusion. Friendly and quick service. You can find a very good cart like this anywhere in the city, and Santa Clause is one to check out if you’re by Union Square.

Easily one of the best halal spots in Manhattan. Santas is one of the few spots in the area that consistently has a line which speaks for itself. The meats are tender and tasty and the vegetables that come with the food taste fresh. The best part is the chopped pita which isn’t too common among halal carts. The chopped pita coined with the delicious meats and sauces makes for a perfect halal spot.

This place feels like it was designed specifically for people like me. The food is EXCELLENT and reasonably priced. The staff demonstrates excellence; greeting warmly and handling requests pleasantly. Their restaurant looks professionally styled. I fully stand behind this spot!

Very solid halal food, although I'm not from NYC so I haven't had many other trucks to compare. Lamb was tender and nicely seared. Rice was cooked well. Veggies and sauce were yummy. Line gets long sometimes, but service is fast.

Cheap consistent halal. The chicken is pretty fire and the price is some of the best in the city at $7 for chicken over rice.

I think I'm a halal expert so when I give this place 5 stars it must be good especially compared to the guys on 6th in midtown. I don't know where else you can get a chicken or lamb over rice for $6.99. Note I prefer the chicken over the lamb and let them sauce it up accordingly. there are three food carts on East 14th between Third Avenue and NYU's Palladium dorm--Santa Halal is one of them and does a good job at serving up a variety of Middle Eastern style meat + rice dishes as well as a few hot sandwiches like gyros. the food is cooked fresh on the grill. got a chicken over rice ($7 + tip). everything from the rice to the chicken is really well seasoned and topped with your choice of sauces as well as some heated chopped pita. the grill man is nice and the service is fast and pleasant

So there used to be several food carts named "Shanta", but this one is clearly different since it's named Santa. And what Santa brought this year was a free soda or water with the purchase of a meal! Okay, bad jokes aside, the food carts near NYU (outside of PC Richards) rotate pretty regularly. And all the ones outside of University Hall (prime real estate) offer free drinks, so they're the ones I go to. $5 snags you any platter and the aforementioned drink. I went with the combo lamb/chicken. Came with chopped up pita bread. Came with your typical yellow-ish lettuce. It's not the best, but it hits the spot when you're drunk and a fat ass.

My favorite food cart in nyc hands down!!! Best quality food and they load you up with plenty. I've tried all the hala carts that line up around union.. this one is my favorite!

Best food in New York. The guy who runs this cart is so nice and chefs up the most gas meal you'll ever eat.

Easily my favorite halal cart in NYC. Makes the best lamb over rice from any cart I've tried (and I've tried a lot). The sauce, lamb, and free pita bread all are very flavorful. Although I don't live in the Union Square area, I'm willing to travel just to get the lamb over rice from this cart.
