Google
I had to bring chance to stop in in this market offers kind of a plethora of everything mostly healthy items mostly grown locally, and quite a few organic options. The best part they take Apple Pay totally awesome come in you’ll enjoy it nice pleasant and quiet.

Google
This is a really awesome choice for picking up snacks, dips and produce for a dinner party. There is a huge selection of healthy options, including fresh produce, all-natural beverages and organic snacks. My husband and I stopped in for tortilla chips, cheese and guacamole to bring to dinner at a friend's house. If you need an energy drink or a cookie to get your blood sugar back up, they have those too. We may or may not have enjoyed those as pre-appetizer appetizers. It's not inexpensive, but hey that's the price of maintaining a local neighborhood bodega in a high-rent district. Support your local bodega. We can't lose these little stores, friends!

Google
I love this market! Delicious produce, tons of variety and selection and family owned and run.

Michelle Lam

Google
Good, convenient store, stocks all the essentials for the home. Wide variety of instant noodles. Some fresh fruit and herbs (rosemary was excellent quality and only $2). Bright and clean. Contactless payment accepted even when I was spending less than $10.

Google
I don't know what any of these reviews are talking about. There is no mean proprietor just an austere Korean woman who rings up your food. If you want good conversation go to Trader Joes. As for the credit card fee. Stop whining. They have a fine and diverse selection and their produce is surprisingly good.

Owner is very nice, but that doesn't constitute a box of ziti costing more than. Ralphs

Google
They have everything you need for a mini grocery haul. This place was a lifesaver for my family at the beginning of the pandemic. They were the only ones with toilet paper, gloves, and wipes. The owners of the market are very kind people.

Amanda Nava

Google
I love this store because I can walk here in 5 minutes, find most of my items I need for a meal

Yelp
Santa Monica Farms is my idea of what a little neighborhood market should be! While they don't have everything my heart desires, they have wonderful fresh organic produce, a nice selection of groceries and even a few culinary surprises! Santa Monica Farms does not try to be all things to all people. Just like The People's Republic of Santa Monica, it is focused on healthy choices. The other day I was there looking for canned Enchilada Sauce, LOL, nope, they didn't have it! But they did have Almond Butter! I love the people that work there. I love their smiles and the help they provide. I love that I can ask that they carry something and a month later it appears! These are honest hard working people, and what they have created here, in arguably a difficult neighborhood, is something of an oasis.

Yelp
Okay first off I am giving this review based mainly on the sandwich and smoothly shop within this market. Ignacio the sandwich maker is the bomb dot com. Uses Bore's head meats and cheeses which are my personal favorite meats. This dude puts together an amazing sandwich and super fast! He's always so nice and friendly. I love the chicken salad they make here, it's perfect, no onions but a some finely chopped celery and really light mayonnaise. Really though every sandwich I've had there has always been super great and the smoothies are on point too. Now for the actual store... It's fine I guess. Expensive but what do you expect when it's all organic fancy pants stuff. Good selection of drinks and tasty fresh squeezed juices. Got grapes the other day and they were moldy so make sure to check the produce before you buy it. And of corse the Asian lady that works there (maybe owner?) is always a little surly, sometimes unfriendly, but every once in a blue moon is really nice and chatty. Basically just go for the sandwich bar!

Yelp
I love this place! This place has a history and must be kept. Fresh produce, best ambience, great location.

Yelp
Was running late to my work out class and realized I didn't have my wallet. I asked the women (owner I think) for some change for my meter and told her I'd return tomorrow to pay it back....she opened the till and gave me $1 in quarters and asked, "Is that enough?" V grateful. Thank you, Santa Monica Farms! I'll pay you back!
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
What a douche bag the owner is. I parked out front, went in to ask for some change so I could pay the meter then return to the store and purchase some items. This little prick of an owner didn't even look up when I asked him for change. He just rudely yelled "No! at me and did it in such a way that you want to punch the guy. So not only did I go somewhere else, I'll never go back. One of the worst customer service situations I've ever been in. I hope the owner goes out of business and end up homeless on the street and has to ask me for change and I get to say "NO!".

Yelp
This place is awesome.....no frills, no thrills, no idea why people don't like it. Grab a veggie sandwich in the back, find a treat in the fridge, get a fruit cup on the way out. Don't expect a fake smile and meaningless comment when you leave. OG Korean owned Santa Monica business, do your thing, love it or go home.

Yelp
I just had the biggest sandwich for $5! I can't recall the last time I ever got such a good deal on a sandwich! I bypassed all the places that had sandwiches for 9 or 10 bucks and walked straight back to the sandwich counter here. No wonderbread size sandwiches, thee bread itself it about twice the size. Great deal, fresh, and they use boar's head deli meat! Awesome. The guy working behind the counter was super nice and quick too. I ordered a turkey sandwich on sourdough, with mayo and mustard, red onions, lettuce and tomato and provolone. No problem at all when I asked for only a little of this or little of that. He wrapped it up in paper so that I can hold it and eat it right away, saran wrapped it, and stuck it in a brown paper bag with a napkin. Next time I'll try to forgo the plastic wrap, but it was all ready to be eaten or taken to the beach. I was so happy...LA has such pricy lunches that this is such a great option. I wanted to stuff the whole sandwich in my mouth...yummmyy...but I only finished half. Hehe which means I'll eat in a few hours prolly. Erm, oh yeah the rest of Santa Monica Farms. Small little place that is great for a quick stop to pick up fruit or a snack. I noticed a lot of organic brands but I didn't look at the prices of anything. Prolly pricy. Also spotted Haagen Daaz in the freezer...tempting...but I resisted. The place itself isn't super nice or super clean. Just well worn and functional. I paid at the front, cash only and credit with $10 minimum, and the guy was basically looking everywhere but my direction. I didn't really care though since I was so hungry I just wanted to quickly pay and leave. I love the sandwich bar...I need to go back and get more!!! Hehe and I like looking around too.

Yelp
I've been shopping here since the 90s and the owners have never been rude to me. The previous reviewers missed the cultural part - Koreans are at work to do business, not make friends. If you want an animated conversation while you pay for your groceries, go to Trader Joes. Santa Monica Farms It's the type of place where you pick up a few items, not your shopping for the week. I generally like the selection of packaged natural/organic products. Sometimes they will be overpriced, sometimes under - it all evens out in the end. The produce is nothing special and reasonably priced. It's so much easier than dealing with a bigger store, and there is always street parking. I put a nickel in the meter and run in and out.
google avatar

Mary C.

Yelp
One star because it's in walking distance... and that's about it. When I moved here, I had grand visions of grocery shopping at the local, friendly, fresh market. Unfortunately, while it is local, this market is neither friendly nor fresh. I usually only stop in here for absolute necessities that I don't want to make a long trip for, and I'm astonished that a store has the gall to charge $18 for a can of corn. That may be a slight exaggeration, but it's expensive! On top of that, the building is not seismically reinforced, so if you're in it during the next big quake, good luck getting out alive. And don't get me started on the $10 minimum for using a debit card! Last weekend I was hungover and in need of nutrients, but couldn't get a soda because I didn't have any cash! (and yes, in my hangover world soda = nutrients). All in all, this place is a big disappointment. You're better off making the trek to Trader Joes.

Yelp
I live around the corner from this place and it comes in handy. Why only 3 stars? It is $$$. Although, the deli is the highlight! They use Boar's Head meats. No nasty nitrates (ladies it causes bloating) no preseraitives, just yummy deli meat bliss. The boys behind the counter are so sweet and work very hard and turn out amazing sammies! Also, the tuna salad is delicious! They make killer salsa and quac! Enjoy!
google avatar

Jon T.

Yelp
They get credit for sandwiches and selection but the owners are definitely not interested in winning any friendly awards. I can't go back there anymore though because I went in to get a pint of half and half as an accessory for my coffee addiction. The lady said it was $4.50! that shit is loco - its costs a $1.50 in the grocery store. I can understand a dollar markup but a 300% markup wtf are we on a desert island? My previous refusal to go back involved the owner refusing to sell me a tomato - refusing to sell me something because I only had a twenty and he didn't want to make change. I'm sorry dude I only needed a tomato - isn't that why I go to a local expensive market so I can buy something I need and location is key.

Yelp
I'm a relative newcomer to Main Street, and I was excited to find a small market as a lunch option, as I need more than La Grand Orange as a place to go for a quick bite. The food options, including sandwiches, aren't that bad - pretty typical for a small grocery. Salads, drinks, snacks, fruit. However, I'll agree with the many comments above - both the male and female Korean owners are absolute assholes. The barely look up when you go to check out, they'll charge you for anything remotely above-and-beyond ($.50 for a little extra dressing on my salad?), and that lovely $10 minimum for cards just sucks (You'll note that they've jacked the fees on their in-store ATM). Also, the place is far from cheap - pretty much evertyhing is way overpriced. So, in short, it's a cute market with decent variety - and unfortunately, owners who don't know the idea of customer service.
google avatar

Yelp
Great local market with all the essentials. They have a nice selection of fresh vegetables and always save me in a pinch when I realize I'm out of something crucial to my recipe. Thank you!

Yelp
Before I get a lot of "funny" clicks as far as my review being useful, I must first mention that I do not reside here and only came into this store 3x in two weeks. BUT I will say this, that I did notice the "angry clerk" but if you have common sense, you'd understand that the majority of these types of cultures are COLD in personality. Just saying. I wasn't there to make friends nor to chit chat. They don't like chit chatting. Love this place! They have a lot of organic healthy choices. The have a little deli section in the back that can make you a sandwich, however you like. The sandwiches are huge too! Just be aware that healthy or organic choices tend to cost more (just like at any other market) so don't be surprised on how much more some items cost. But this "mini Whole Foods" market was awesomely located nearby where I was attending class....which is also located next to the beach! You can't beat that. Santa Monica is really beautiful.
google avatar

Yelp
Dang! Why aren't you better? :( It would be so awesome if this grocery was what it set out to be -- a quaint little farm to market Santa Monica store. But often the shelves are bare, there is a surprising lack of variety of inventory, and the super standard, unimaginative veggies and fruits aren't marked as particularly organic. The limes today were coated in white powder. Maybe this would fly in Iowa in the dead of winter, but in Cali? No dice, babe. I have not tried the delicious sandwiches y'all talk about, but honestly the corner surfer market a block away towards Pico has a better selection and quality of groceries interspersed with energy drinks, chewing tobacco and porn mags. I go there now! :)

Yelp
Pretty healthy general market convenience store. The sandwiches are decent and cost $6.99 + additional fees for cheese, avocado, etc... They take credit cards without a minimum - which is nice and still not always the case with these places. The cost of pretty much everything is what you would expect from it being a convenience store and being located in Santa Monica - so NOT reasonable or cheap for the basics. Although, if you're looking for a clean spot with healthy options for a last minute ingredient or dish - this place will work.

Yelp
We have an apartment across the street from this store. I found it to be clean and the merchandise was fairly priced. Convenient for us. No, the person checking us out wasn't that friendly but definitely not rude. Overall good experience.

Yelp
Solid place to get some healthy snacks or a sandwich. Great place if you work on Main Street. First off, as j.w. noted below, all these people complaining about the "rude" service are totally missing the cultural aspect. I know this may be controversial but Korean-owned business are not necessarily known for being particularly friendly or super out-going. The owners are definitely not doing this so they can have lovely conversation with you as you buy your almond milk and avocado n sprouts sandwich. If you want friendly, go visit the back counter where sandwiches are made (if you're a female). Those guys will be more than friendly for you. Prices are not cheap so this is not the place to do your major grocery shopping. It is good if you just need a couple of things to get through the week, like some apples, some milk or cereal. Major downer is that they have a $10 minimum to pay by card. So if you're getting a $5 sandwich you will probably end up buying some expensive beverages, potato chips or chocolate to supplement your meal. Your wallet and caloric intake probably don't appreciate this. The sandwiches are of good quality. Boar's Head meats & cheeses. Freshly made egg salad (not too heavy on the mayo!). Soups made daily (and not greasy). Basic sandwichs with your choice of fixings. Anyways, overall solid place. Don't hate on the proprietors. Just buy your lunch.

Yelp
I have mixed feelings about this place. One Star: The sandwiches are fresh. Good quality meat and cheese and bread. But they are Boar's Head meats, which I can get at my local Ralphs and make my own sandwiches, but a nice cold sandwich with veggies is good. Second Star: The really nice speedy guy at the lunch counter in the back. He's polite and courteous. Sometimes when the older guy is there with them, they are damn near a little flirty. No stars left to give. Cause the woman at the cash register has a stank attitude. I don't care what people say about her being Korean or whatever. I go to alot of Korean establishments, they see that green paper come out my wallet and they smile. They are happy. I'm giving up the dollars, they have more money to spend on themselves and their household. Shoot I'm black and money makes me smile. When in Rome people. What else annoys me is that I always go get a 7 dollar sandwich with my ATM, and one day she decided you had to purchase 10.00 worth of food to use your ATM. And she acted as if it had been the the rule all along, like I'm crazy. I guess she figured I was going to go grab some 4.00 pop chips and crap, please chile. I handed her that sandwich and went to Whole Foods. You're not going to knuckle me into spending more at your store. Mama Suggestion: Don't bring them here. That's all I have to say about it.

Yelp
What a relief - A place on Main Street to grab a healthy lunch (in the form of a freshly made sandwich a la carte) for $5. 15 minute 'loading' parking right upfront, super friendly sandwich guys and an amazing array of many boutique label drink options, this place is a great friend on overpriced Main Street!
google avatar

Tara R.

Yelp
Perfect little corner market. They stock just about anything you could need - fresh produce, all the staples and there's also a great little selection of prepared foods from the deli. Owners and friendly and recognize frequent customers. Whether your grabbing some last minute snacks for the beach or putting together a weeknight dinner you'll leave happy :)
google avatar

Jennifer E.

Yelp
This is a great little store - I think that there are new owners as they are always very helpful and nice to me! Delicious sandwiches, nice organic produce and lots of grocery items too.
google avatar

Laura K.

Yelp
The parking here is slim. You have to park on the streets at the meter. This place has some decent produce, but I come here mainly for the sandwich and smoothie bar. The guys at the bar are pretty friendly, and make good sandwiches and smoothies. Be prepared to pay in cash, or else have to spend a ten dollar minimum if you want to use a debit card. As far as the people behind the cash register goes they're not the friendliest nor the worst people to deal with. I do agree with others though that in these times where people have many other options to go to other places, it wouldn't hurt the people behind the register to be a little more friendly.

Yelp
I'm in town to run the marathon and was looking desperately for another store. I stumbled across Santa Monic Farms and I was delighted. Great food selection, mostly organic! Well priced and very friendly and helpful staff. Thank you for sorting me out!
google avatar

Amy H.

Yelp
The people who own/run this place are some of the most unfriendly folks I have ever come across in my entire life. They lack basic customer service skills and are just plain rude. I asked about it once and was told, "I don't like talking to the people." When I called them on it and said I could easily choose another market down the street...I was told to "please...go there." Produce at Santa Monica Farms is marginal at best and clearly what the regular markets needed to get rid of quickly. That is why their prices are a little cheaper. For a better selection...check out One Life on Main Street. The produce is always fresh, they are happy to see you and they say thank you. They will order items that are not on the shelves and they give you a 10% discount if you shop in the morning.
google avatar

Kenna T.

Yelp
let me be clear - this review is for the sandwich section of the store only. and i love it. for $6.50, i can get a HUGE tofu veggie sammy with avacado and cheese. it's so fantastic. i don't know why people are not liking this place. it's clean and the people there are friendly, and my guy making the sammy was super fast. and i have to say that the woman who rang me up was nice and even engaged me in conversation. not sure why so many people have had such bad experiences here. i consider myself a tough reviewer (i've even had reviews taken down, but that was bc some whiney dude in nyc who owns a lousy mexican place in union square called yelp and bitched), so i am more than willing to call out owners on a place. this place had none of that. it was all good!
google avatar

Max B.

Yelp
$10 minimum for credit card! Lame. No this is not a great lil store. If it was it would not have a fuckin minimum on credit card usage. Idiots!
google avatar

Rick C.

Yelp
Over-priced, incredibly rude service at the front counter is the norm here. I've been there a few dozen times, as it is a few doors down from my place. I really tried to be a regular patron when I first moved here a few years ago. I realized quickly that your business doesn't really matter to them and that there are many more affordable and friendlier establishments within easy walking distance. One reviewer mentioned cutting the place some slack, because the owner is Korean and it's just a cultural issue. That's a lame reason to excuse this business. If they had a warm welcoming presence up front (and better produce and more reasonably priced items), this place would be slammed with business. I will give the sandwich counter props, however, as their sandwiches are pretty good.

Kelly T.

Yelp
I also agree with Amy and Christie. I live up the street from SM Farms and the only reason I used to go there was solely for convenience. I have vowed never to go there again because of the horrendous past couple experiences I had there. Here are a few of them. 1) I wasn't aware of the "no credit card for purchases under $10 rule," and I attempted to buy groceries that totaled slightly over $9. To my disbelief, the owner literally threw my card back and scolded me. The point made above about him being Korean is irrelevant. Around here, customer service needs to be at the core of running a business. 2) I walked down to the store to buy soy milk (the third store I visited on Main for my hunt to find soy milk), paid over $5 for it, and realized when I got home that it was over 1 month expired. Soy milk usually has about a 3 month + shelf life, so they clearly are not spinning inventory very quickly. When I went in and tried to return it, not only was the owner rude, but I also couldn't find another soy milk that wasn't expired! AND, he wouldn't return my money. Please don't go here. Join me in boycotting them. Go to One Life on the south end of Main Street. I love that place. The service, food and prices blow this place out of the water.

Temmi T.

Yelp
agree with most, the owners are not very friendly and the sandwich artisans in back are the best ever. I love the tuna/ egg mix and get it weekly. Today I took a bite and gagged since it was RANCID. I returned to let them know, and hoped they would remove the last few containers from the shelves. the unfriendly owner told me " we don't have bad " and ran to take the last ones off the shelves . No sorry, no nothing, but suddenly forgot to speak english. really inexcusable to put old food out on the shelves. won't return to this filthy place again. love the guys in the back, someone hire them and get them away from the mean spririted unfriendly owners ASAP.

Yunnie M.

Yelp
I've been a customer since I was a little girl. I'm surprised to see all the negative comments on the owners, they are always really sweet. This is my go-to spot to pick up lunch to take to the beach for my family. I always get avocado and veggie sandwich with cheddar on sourdough. I always ask them to cut in half, they are huge. The cold salads in the fridge are great. My 2 favorites would have to be the tuna shell and tabouli. Grab a bag of have-a-chips to scoop up the tabouli and a strawberry banana shake to wash it all down. The pre-cut fruit is always really fresh and ripe.
google avatar

hello y.

Yelp
it's crazy expensive. i was gonna try the $5 sandwiches but they looked like I could make them myself for $0.50. but the smoothies are ok, so 2 stars.

hutch m.

Yelp
do not shop here. the owners and cashiers are rude and horrible. they could care less about their customers and show it daily. the sandwiches used to be good but now taste awful. everything in this market is way overpriced even when compared to the 2 other markets within a block from this store. some items by more than a dollar.

Sara S.

Yelp
my favorite lunch spot. their sandwiches are packed with fresh veggies and boars head meat. the beach is pretty close by so i usually stop by here, pick up some chips, a sandwich and a shake and call it a beautiful day. and i dont know what everyone else is talking about, the owner is awesome. she is such a sweet woman and she has the coolest hair. Va va vooom with the volume LOVE THIS PLACE. they also have a cardboard cut out of kelly slater. WHATTTTTTTT :D

Alan K.

Yelp
Worst supermarket ever. Don't go to this supermarket unless you want to get ripped off. The owner/cashier will take your money on every opportunity. I bought a sandwich, and the deli person put in cucumbers and onion and then charged me for it. So when I paid for the sandwich it was over 6 bucks instead of it being 4.99. The worst part of it was the owner wanted me to take out the cucumber from the sandwich to give me back 40 cents. C'mon. What kind of business is he running. Worst place. Never will I come into this store again.
google avatar

Christie X.

Yelp
I agree with Amy H's review. I've only purchased items from this store three times since I moved to SM two years ago; two times for lemons b/c I was too sick to go anywhere else & earlier this afternoon for guacamole. My landlady has bought sandwiches, homemade chicken soup & guacamole for me - all very tasty, which is probably their only saving grace for "loyal" customers, the fact that their food is "fresh & healthy," (though their produce is always questionable). But for a neighborhood establishment, their customer service needs serious improvement. I finally got the male owner to say something to me today, but that was probably b/c no one else was there in the store. I dunno. Could just be a fluke. Like I said, unless I'm desperate, there are plenty of other choices. Bummer, since this store is so close to me. If they improved their service, selection of produce & fixed up the place, I'm sure they would gain a LOT more satisfied customers.

Michelle P.

Yelp
If you're in the mood for a convenient shop where you can go broke and be treated terribly then this is just the spot for you. You've got less than desirable produce, cereal at over $5 a box, juice at nearly the same price, and sure, you can find those specialty items at double the price of a place like Whole Foods/Trader Joe's or World Market. And in this world of plastic cash, this spot ensures you drop a dime or two with their $10 minimum on all card transactions. Maybe it's harsh to say you're treated terribly and better to say you're ignored. The man doesn't even say hello. I'm relieved to find he treats everyone the same way (some reviewers even got worse!) and that it's not just us. I don't get it... you charge ridiculously high prices and then don't even care about the people in front of you? This place is just plain terrible, and while the Brit is willing to go "over the road" and utilize the convenience of the shop, I refuse. I'd rather put my money where I'll get treated politely.

David C.

Yelp
I don't know what so many people are complaining about. I've been coming here for years and the owners have always been polite. Just because they don't engage you in full conversation doesn't make them rude. Santa Monica Farms has a great deli section with delicious affordable sandwiches. They also make really great smoothies and juices.

janice p.

Yelp
santa monica farms is a small ma and pa store. i must admit the owners may not appear friendly all of the time, but who can stay happy 24/7 when they run a business everyday from 8am to 8pm. you got to cut them some slack. and besides you go there for their fresh veggies and fruits. they always have the best produce. they also have this deli in the back that makes sandwiches with boars head meat. i usually go for the shakes that are amazing! you can choose any type of fruit that is fresh from their store. you wont find any junk food here at this organic health store (except for the occasional candy bars. i highly recommend the Green&Blacks chocolate bars. they are So rich and delicious. a little pricey but well worth it) i have been going to this store for quite some time and have gotten to know the owners a little. they are actually really nice people who sometimes have bad days (dont we all?) AND for those coffee lovers they just got a coffee machine. 1.29 for a small cup and i think 1.50 for a big cup. not too bad and its perfect in the mornings with a nice little muffin i love santa monica farms :)
