please beware, they don't listen to direction when ordering online. I opted for mangu with cheese and salami. I did NOT click the option for eggs. of course I got 2 huge eggs. I can't eat eggs or the food they touched, so screw me I guess. they only gave me one small piece of cheese, too. if they had listened, maybe I could have gotten more cheese instead of eggs.

Food is ALWAYS amazing! I visit them a few times a month... you can't eat the price for the amount of food. Service is always friendly, and the atmosphere clean. They even have seasonal/holiday baskets you can buy for the ladies. When you're in hot water... grab a plate and basket!

If you want a tasty affordable meal this is must stop if you are in the area. The food is always delicious. I ordered today and realized I have never left a review. I have been ordering food from them for last few years and they never disappoint. They always have the food you want. The plantain is always cooked to perfection. The people at the counter always given 5 star customer service. Update in August 2024 - Food still delicious, customer service still 5 stars. I love this place. That fish was the best whole fish I have had in a long time.

They sold me chicken that smell like it went bad and is green inside i am pregnant this is not ok you could put my baby at risk for your negligence they use old food

Be careful with delivery!!!! Juan will happily take his tip, but will leave your food at the door for someone else to take. I knew I should’ve ordered from Alex Chimis!!

I went into this restaurant believing the reviews. Please leave honest reviews for people who actually want GOOD eats, It’s a Sunday I’m from out of town and believe me I’m so disappointed I even went. (fried appetizers) was soggy greasy & 1/5 no flavor along with the rice, it taste like green peas and salt only. I asked for carne frita and I got chicken instead of pork meat.

Edit- ordered food from here. I think UberEats fixed it. Changed the stars to 3. All of this included minus any service fees or delivery fees was $15. $12 for the plate and $1 ea for the pastelitos. I enjoyed the carne asada with rice but there was only like 6 pieces of beef. Should be getting more if I’m paying $12 for that plate. The portion size was a little on the small side. The chicken pastelito was delicious but the beef almost tasted like soap. I’m not sure if it was a bad batch. I think it’s a little pricey for what you get but overall it was good. Didn’t get to order. Leaving this in hopes the owners will see it and fix their UberEats. When trying to place the order it makes you choose a size but adds that amount onto the already preset amount of 11.99. I’m assuming that is the price of the small order but when you choose a size it just adds it all together.

The worst place to eat at they are very unprofessional an rude actually the girls there will hang up on you in your face if you don't order quickly is ridiculous if you not on there time. I think this is very bad customer service.

Really good Dominican food and a great value always fresh and lots of variety takeout only I don't know if they have a la carte options but mostly its cafeteria style where everything is done and you pick and choose whats in the showcases.

Second time this month I've had Santo Domingo restaurant. Both times I ordered online and was delivered within an hour. Second experience was much better than the first lol both times was a big order so I get there could potentially be items forgotten. My first order, desserts were missing (flan and tre leches cake). This time, we got both our desserts. I requested for hot sauce and never got any on the first order. This second time, each order received hot sauce. Thank you ! Food - the yellow Spanish rice is amazing! So much flavor. For $10.99, such a good deal for lunch menu price. I got their stewed beef with yellow rice. Added Potato Ball / Bollo de Papa for $2. (Also added Potato Salad / Ensalada de papa $3 , was not great . I don't recommend) lol Overall, this place is decent. I do recommend trying if you're looking for something quick and simple!

I've actually been going to this restaurant for some years. The food is great and the people are even better. Let's not forget the vibe when you walk in the music playing and the smell of the food. The portions are amazing! One plate is all you need

The place needs a management. People don't respect like and the employees don't even care. The service is very unprofessional.

They work very slowly! They do not want to give an order that is already ready! ¡Trabajan muy lentamente! ¡No quieren dar un pedido que ya está listo!

Good service, nice and clean friendly environment.. The food was delicious, I will be going back for more. I recommend won't be disappointed....

I am big fan! First of all, you always find a big variety of dominican finger foods not really found elsewhere e.g. empanadas, pastelitos, arepitas (little cornmeal arepitas), Dominican arepa (again cornmeal but made the Dominican way) etc. The food is consistently good and tastes like your auntie made it in the country side on a wooden stove with fresh seasoning (meaning very good). That says a lot! Besides the variety, service has always been good for me, ESPECIALLY when making big orders for my parties. I ordered here for my baby's first birthday parties and both times my guests left asking for the name of the restaurant because the food was so good. The pernil was falling off the bone it was so good, actually only thing left at the end of the party was the bone. The chicken was moist and flavorful and the stewed beef tender and well seasoned. All was delicious! Lastly, my orders were always done on time and HOT when I arrived for pick up meaning my food wasn't just sitting around. Highly recommend if you want authentic and reasonably priced Dominican food.

Love the chicken soup!!! Don't forget the lime to add to the soup! The rice and peas and stewed beef with carrots is my second go-to! The customer service is solid!

I used to eat from here all the time I don't know why it happened But the food has not been good I just ordered a breakfast and everything it looks dry And old here's a picture of it I would not be ordering from here again. I threw everything away. I am so upset

I was charged $7.25 for a small side of chicharrone. No rice. I asked for one with minimal fat however once I got home I discovered half of it was fat..which was thrown in the trash. If you're not Hispanic expect to be charged up.

Good Dominican food. Affordable and the small portion is a lot. Definitely recommend!

It's the fact I'm a black person standing before 3-4 people came in after and this lady really took all the spanish people before me. Racist as hell. Won't get my money no more

I think the one thing that stands out here is an actual option if you're a vegetarian besides the standard fish or just plantains and rice. When I stopped in here, I was looking for something a vegetarian could try from a caribbean restaurant as most spots have so much meat and pork dishes. What I found here was stewed okra. Hello game changer. Some of that on top my rice and a side of maduros; I had a full, hearty meal! It was so good.

Their food is excellent! But..... I had brought 3 slices of cake one day and ate 2 then my stomach started hurting. That's when I noticed the cake had mold on it. Smh

I just ordered food from here on uber eats and it is absolutely delicious. I got a pernil sandwich, which I think is my favorite item so far, white rice with beans on the side, and carne frita. Everything tastes delicious and the portion sizing is amazing. I will definitely order from here again and I'm glad I didn't let the previous negative reviews stop me from ordering.

I went on a limb with these folks, first to see if they delivered 2nd if they accepted atm card which they did. I had a hankering for mangu & they didn't disappoint

All the food here is delicious! In a month, I think I came here about 4 times because the food is that good. So glad this is near my gym. If you plan on getting a $8-$12 dollar plate you will have at least 2 servings of food so really you're buying 2 meals which is fantastic. The moro is the best, the tostones are savory, the meat is seasoned to perfection, maybe the only thing is that they do have a lot of foot traffic so chose wisely when you come in since there may be a wait if they have to cook the meat.

The food here can't be described in words on how good it is... just try it! Sometimes you need to take a leap and just try new places, that's the only way you will ever know if its good or not. One of the best places to eat Dominican food period! Merengue restaurant doesn't even reach anywhere near the level of how delicious this food is. The grilled chicken with white rice and guandules is the best. Also the beef in sauce and the bistec are to die for. Lol seriously don't hesitate you wont be disappointed

horrible. i literally ordered from there through uber eats and the guy stole my food. so i proceeded to both report it to uber and called the restaurant. i explained my concern and she said "no ingles" and hung up on me. talk about disrespect. i called them back six times and each time, they hung up on my consistently. i eventually gave up and decided to leave the situation alone. would highly suggest to never come here unless you are a spanish speaker.

Love this place. Food is delicious. A little pricey but the portions are great and always good service.

First time here today. Got the mangu because I figured you can't go wrong with mangu... WRONG. Not sure if I came here on a bad day... but the mangu taste exactly as if they put plantain in a blender and made it into a smoothie. Sounds delicious right? Yuck!!!

I have been to Santo Domingo's a couple of times and I might have even reviewed them before, but I had a very negative experience this time around. I ordered lunch for pickup with some coworkers and several parts of the order were missing. Since they don't list out specific items on their receipts we really can't tell if we were charged for some or all of the missing items or not. The food itself also seemed to be of lower quality than I've had here previously. I've had the Pernil before and it was delicious, but this time it was overly fatty. I had to pick out more than half of the container. I'd also had the sweet fried plantains before and loved them, but this time they were hard and cold. The serving sizes were still gigantic, and overall the food was still decent, but after this experience I'm not sure I'll go back. If I do it will definitely be to order in person so that I can correct any mistakes.

There is a lot wrong here, but let's start with the business listing. The address is 179 Washington St in DORCHESTER, 02121 a couple blocks from Columbia St. It's only been there a few months. I went in to get a quick bite, remembering how good it smelled in November before they opened, while they were making their own food while finishing the buildout. They moved into an existing little "pizza joint" styled place and apparently just bought the equipment. The place is worn and threadbare, but they're on a startup budget, however, things could be quiet a bit cleaner. A girl who could not speak English waited on me, did not understand what I as asking for, so I pointed at the item on the Dominican Sandwich specials board. She went to the back to order it, and the chef, probably about 40, who spoke typical staccato Dominican accented English asked me if I wanted cheese and what veggies, etc. I told him what to put on it and a few minutes later a wrapped sub (not what I ordered) arrived. The girl then held her hand out for the money, so I wanted to see what would happen. She did not tell me the price either in English or Spanish. My $3.50 sandwich ended up, with no extras, costing $5.50, and she looked at me as if waiting to get caught. Instead, that $2 will cost her her job when the restaurant realizes that this is their only review and it's not happy. The sub was okay... if it was what I ordered. When I got it home, it was SWIMMING in mayo and ketchup, but that's how Dominicans make sandwiches: mild and wet. I asked for hots but apparently there were none. The bread was typical sub bread, slightly yeasty. The ham was normal foodservice American sliced boiled ham. Meh. The veggies (tomato, onion, lettuce) were okay. Not a well filled sub, too wet, not enough "stuff" in it. Meh. The jerked meats in the front hot counter you can buy in meals or by container smelled good... like I remembered months ago: sweet, slightly smoky and slightly spicy. However, giving me a sandwich that I didn't order at a price that was not on the wall and having no proficiency up front where orders are taken in a tri-lingual neighborhood (Spanish, English, Kreole) is pretty poor. I hope they do well, but patrons really need to count their change VERY carefully. Note: there is no cash register or receipt system. That may spell a very short lifespan for this place. Needless to say, they don't take plastic.

Great food. Friendly staff. Certainly helps to speak Spanish. The black rice and chicken was amazing. 8 of us (4 adults, 4 kids) had large lunches for $70 including shakes and juice drinks. 8 of us left delighted. The local customers helped with some tasty recommendations.

excellent authentic dominican food. so far the best i"ve tasted in the boston area! prices are very great too! my number 1 for dominican food!

David L [below] must be one lonely guy, anyway this is about the food and nothing but the food and service and I received a 5 star treatment every time I went (4-5 times) and had different things each time, love their empanadas!! YUMMY**YUMMY**!! the place is always clean, packed with neighborhood customers, food is ready, food is fresh, food is delicious, service is quick and polite!! what else do you want brother?

Had my first bad experience when i orderned via uber eats. Food arrived cold and the green plantains were completed cold and hard. My husband ordered again today and it took over 1 hour for delivery and the food was not what we expected. Total dissapointment!

The food could of been good if they would of just put in the EFFORT to make a simple sandwich. Any who, I ordered the club sandwich... TWO at that and it was just not good. Wasn't toasted enough so it was completely soggy along with the fries when it arrived. You can tell they made it super quick and sloppy the cheese wasn't even melted..........literally picked off COLD hard cheese where eventually I just threw it out (I know horrible) on top of that I ordered milkshakes and it was gross. They were melted and the fruit tasted off. Not good. Not happy. :(

Maaaaaaaaaaaaannnn!!!! I'm a big guy who can throw down and the amount of food I got for $6 was so much that I had to save it for later. This is a nice cozy spot that has you feeling like you're in Santo Domingo. I had the 3 Golpes which is fried eggs, queso frito and salami with Mangu, plus a shake which made it $9. There's no beating that. This is going to be my new go-to spot in Boston for Dominican food. I definitely recommend.

Ordered a full catered size of stew beef, bean sauce and rice. Everything was amazing. Also we called only the day before for it to be on a Sunday and they were very accommodating to us. Definitely will go back.

Amazing food, friendly service and great value for catering for large groups of people. The pollo guisado and moro de gandules are my favorites.
