The Odyssey: The best hotels in the Greek islands

"There isn’t a bad view of Santorini’s caldera anywhere on the island, but Oia, on the northern branch of the island, is something special. Its elevation provides a stunning perspective, and its orientation makes for dramatic shadows across the water at sunset. It’s also more or less the heart of Santorini’s luxury hospitality industry — but, from within the walls of Santo Maris Oia Luxury Suites & Spa, it’s possible to feel like you’re just about alone on the island." - Le Guide MICHELIN

My family and I stayed at Santo Pure Suites and Villas in September for 3 nights. I highly recommend Santo Pure anyone planning on staying in Oia. They have their own pathway straight to Oia market which is less than 5 min away. . Its close to Oia and also offers privacy and beautiful view of the Aegean sea. I recommend getting seaview suite with jacuzzi and for big families highly recommended the Selini Villa with private pool and jacuzzi. . The staff was excellent. Shoutout to Chris who would drive us around the resort in the golf cart whenever we needed to go around, with a happy smile always on his face. Staff was very welcoming and accommodating. Exceptional service. Anytime we called concierge they were very prompt with their service. The rooms were modern. The hotel also provided us with transportation from/to airport which was included with the villa. Spa was nice and breakfast was really good too. Convenient location to Oia and Ammoudi Bay.

We visited here for 10 nights choosing this liking the privacy and larger layout you won’t get in a cave suite in the main photographed area of Oia. After we were checked in we were taken in a golf buggy on a tour of the resort and dropped with our bags at our suite.||We had a private pool and sea and sunset view which was stunning. There is a car park in the view on these rooms but apart from some noise of people coming and going it’s no bother. This resort in general is a great place to watch the sunset away from the crowds but the view from our room was lovely.||Breakfast is served as a buffet with additional options available for order. The food was good and also had allergen information out. On request they got vegan butter for us and brought it to our table each morning. Oat milk was also available with coffees. ||We had submitted an allergen form when we checked in however the room service treats at turn down weren’t dairy free for my husband so just double check any food given from housekeeping if you have allergies.||For most of our stay housekeeping were arriving around 9.30 in our room and if you turn them away you do have to have actively call reception later to get them back as they don’t return otherwise. We did feel this was a bit early personally as breakfast is served until 11am.||There is a safe and air-conditioning in the room however the air-con can be a little loud at times. There is also a fridge which is empty unless you pay for a mini-fridge hamper so we just stocked the fridge from a shop nearby.||The entire resort is built onto a hillside so is steep. There is a handy path leading up to Oia which is not long however the path is steep and uneven being made of local stone that is cemented together.||On Santorini there is a tax to pay at checkout which is calculated by number of nights and star rating that for 5 star hotels is 15 Euros per night. ||All of the staff were fabulous and although this hotel doesn’t have a caldera view the space and privacy were well worth it for us and we wouldn’t want to stay in a cave hotel for an extended duration as they are so squashed together. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone.

From the moment we arrived at Santo Pure Oia Suites & Villas, we were in a world of serenity, luxury, and unmatched hospitality. From the cool towel and welcome drink at reception to the buggy ride to our room everything was beautifully organised .|The location is perfect , 5 minutes walk into Oia centre. The sunset views are truly amazing . |But it’s the little touches that made the holiday truly special. What sets Santo Pure apart is the staff. Every person we met couldn’t have been more friendly , helpful and professional. From reception to the bar and waiting staff , the level of care was exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble . We will definitely be visiting again.

Just an amazing stay. We stayed here for our honeymoon and it was everything we wanted and more. The team was more than helpful at every whim and made it very special with the honeymoon package and extras which we did not ask for but were very much appreciated. Everyone was so nice and willing to drive you anywhere in their golf carts! The property is beautiful and perfectly located. 5 min walk to Oia that is a bit steep but allows the property to be far away from all the tourists. We had the pool+jacuzzi set up with the sunset view and it was spectacular. If you do go in the end of august, it may be a bit cold in the pool and there are so many great public pools that a hot tub/jacuzzi may be all that you need. Morning breakfast was varied and well made. Spa was very relaxing. Just a great find in a sea of resorts, we'll hopefully be back!

Santo Pure is a very special place. It’s the perfect location —calm, quiet, and probably the best spot to catch the sunset without the crowds. Despite the tranquil location you are only a 5 minute walk to the main town of Oia. ||There are a number of different room options, we had a sea view with a magnificent private pool.||The breakfast options were excellent, though the service a little below par compared to the rest of the hotel. We had a very good meal at the Alios Ilios restaurant, the views are stunning.||There were 3 members of staff that stood out to us. Tigran at the main pool, he was just outstanding. Stela at Alios Ilios restaurant and Ikos our buggy driver (not sure I've spelt his name correctly).||Overall a fantastic experience.

Probably the best place I have ever stayed. The staff is so kind and lovely. Breakfast was amazing and had daily variety. Stunning views. Quick walk into the town where there is lots of shops and restaurants. Do not hesitate to book santo pure for your santorini stay.

Do not stay here!||This property is unsafe, dishonest, and should be avoided at all costs. My $8,000 jewelry was stolen from inside my room while I was a paying guest. Unauthorized individuals were seen snooping in and around the property with full knowledge of when guests left for meals or excursions. This was not just theft—it was a violation of safety, trust, and basic hospitality.||Instead of investigating, management defended their staff and dismissed my concerns with insulting excuses. They claimed no one would steal because employees were “on a visa” and that my bracelet “wasn’t worth it since they’d be banned from Greece forever.” Such remarks were not only unprofessional but deeply offensive, minimizing the seriousness of the crime.||The incident was only investigated after I involved the police. I was forced to escalate further to an attorney and the U.S. Embassy. Even with authorities involved, management has provided no resolution and has shown no accountability. My case remains ongoing, and the property has taken no responsibility for their failure to provide even the most basic level of guest security.||What makes this worse is that the theft occurred on the last day of my stay—a calculated and targeted act, timed when I was most vulnerable. Knowing that anyone with access could walk into my room at any time without reason left me feeling unsafe and violated throughout my stay.||This was not just an unpleasant experience—it was a nightmare that no traveler should ever have to endure. Until my belongings are returned, I will not stop pursuing justice. I strongly urge future guests to protect themselves and stay far away from this resort. Your safety, security, and peace of mind are not valued here.

This is one of the best hotels I have stayed in. The sunset and location is 100%if you want Oia. The food, pool, room, and service is all exceptional. We really enjoyed our stay and I highly recommend this hotel. The breakfast was also beautiful. I could go on. Thank you to the incredible staff, turn down service, complimentary gifts - so beautiful. You will not be disappointed.
