Towering over Bogotá, Monserrate offers stunning views, a serene church sanctuary, lush gardens, and a charming restaurant perfect for special occasions.
"The peak called Monserrate towers over central Bogotá and lends its name to the church that tops it. Perched more than 10,000 feet above sea level, the sanctuary—dedicated to the Passion of Christ—has beautiful gardens showcasing marvelous highland vegetation, and the city views from here are spectacular (sunsets are especially recommended). Ascend Monserrate by cable car, via railway, or on foot (this last is only for the fittest and those already acclimated to the altitude). That beautiful white house on the mountainside is Casa Santa Clara restaurant, a better-than-expected, special-occasion-suitable venue at which to try traditional Bogotá favorites like ajiaco, a thick potato-and-chicken soup. This is a must see spot in Bogota. You can walk up... or you can take the gondola. If you've just arrived in Bogota or this altitude, you may want to reconsider walking... but that's up to you. The views are amazing.

Very nice place to go when the weather is good.
If the weather is bad, don’t go because you won’t see much.
You can buy tickets to go there on the internet
Highly recommend to take the funicular since the walk to the top is not a good neighborhood

It is one of my favorite spots in the city, especially at night. The market is full of traditional food, the fancy restaurant has an amazing view of the city, and the cafeteria serves one of the best coffees.

A must-visit in Bogota! You take a funicular ride to the top and the views are simply breathtaking! Even with on and off rains and a cold day, I had an amazing visit!

Absolutely stunning view of Bogotá from the top! The cable car ride was smooth and the atmosphere at the summit was peaceful and spiritual. A must-visit spot for first-time travelers.

Incredible experience that is not to be missed if you are visiting Bogotá. The view from the basilica is awe inspiring to say the least. I would exercise some situational awareness if you visit the vendors that are on the backside of the property, behind the church if you are unfamiliar with the culture.
The rest of the time there is well spent, try to catch mass if you are there at the right time and buy your tickets in advance. Avoid the valet parking lot and park in the lot that is marked with the yellow signs across from the food vendors, it's guarded and less expensive.

Loved visiting this place! The vibe at the bottom of the cable car was a lot of fun for snacks and souvenirs. The cable car was a lovely ride up and would recommend going early morning to avoid the queues. The views at the top gave some breathtaking views over Bogota and the valleys giving us some fantastic pictures. The market at the top was also great for more shopping and snacks. We got the funicular down which ended the day experience in a lovely way

Overall a great place for a day trip when visiting Bogota! The views alone were incredible. Also the church was pretty. And the shops were fun to explore. Had lunch at a cute little restaurant in the market. Very friendly people and a lot of explore!! Bathrooms are 1,000 pesos FYI
