"The peak called Monserrate towers over central Bogotá and lends its name to the church that tops it. Perched more than 10,000 feet above sea level, the sanctuary—dedicated to the Passion of Christ—has beautiful gardens showcasing marvelous highland vegetation, and the city views from here are spectacular (sunsets are especially recommended). Ascend Monserrate by cable car, via railway, or on foot (this last is only for the fittest and those already acclimated to the altitude). That beautiful white house on the mountainside is Casa Santa Clara restaurant, a better-than-expected, special-occasion-suitable venue at which to try traditional Bogotá favorites like ajiaco, a thick potato-and-chicken soup. Liked the place, used aerial tramway while climbing up, awesome views, nice church, bit crowded though, due to it decided to walk down instead of waiting in the queue for tram. There are small shops available all the way down for snaks & drinks.

Beautiful views, really one of the best spots to go to in bogota. However, bathrooms cost money (1 mil) the gondola line was insanely long and slow. We waited a total of 3 hours to go up and down.

This is a must see spot in Bogota. You can walk up... or you can take the gondola. If you've just arrived in Bogota or this altitude, you may want to reconsider walking... but that's up to you. The views are amazing.

Worth the drive, although you must pay attention to how the navigation takes you to the parking lot. The view is great, there’s also a bunch of places to get coffee and a bite.

Sure the view is amazing and the area offers beautiful bird walks and a nice Cafe Santa Clara! But: 1) they close the stairs down at 4.15pm so you have to take one of the other options. 2) they close the funicular at the same time which means an hour in line on the weekend. Or... Go to Santa Clara and have a drink and watch birds until the line shrinks after 17:30.

Other than the cable car ride, which I really enjoyed, there wasn’t much to do once I got to the top. There are a few souvenir shops, but they all felt pretty repetitive, and there wasn’t much else to see. Personally, I didn’t think it was worth the trip, but if you’re into hiking, the trail up is long and scenic—you could hike up and take the cable car back down.

I made an impulse decision to move my visit up one day because the sun came out. The wait was about an hour and it started to rain. Fear not, it cleared up by the time I headed up in the cable car, and it was beautiful from the top. Since I had only been in Bogotá for 24 hours, I opted to hike down instead of hiking up. It was still quite an experience! I do not have any health issues, but there were some people that I passed who were questioning their decision about 30 minutes in. It was a fun hour hike descending about 2,000 feet!

Paid for our tickets quickly and waited about, probably less then 20 minutes to go up. I was very nervous about getting on the cable car but once you get in, honestly it's not bad, if anything The View helps. If you can only do two things and Bogota make sure this is one of them!
