Mitsuwa Marketplace’s Futuristic New Torrance Grocery Store Is Now Open | Eater LA

Have eaten mugimaru once a week for about a year now and am extremely disappointed with the food I received today. My noodles were FULL of hair! I have a high tolerance for finding a piece or two of hair in my food from time to time, but I am disgusted with how much hair was in my soup. I tried calling the store 3 times to resolve this without leaving a bad review on my favorite noodle place, but this is not okay.

We had a great time here! Tried the chicken and beef udon — both were super tasty and comforting. The tempura shrimp were crispy and delicious. The green beans were okay, but the onion tempura wasn’t our favorite — it felt a bit too raw inside. Still, we really enjoyed the meal overall and would happily come back!

I got the #2, large, then grabbed 2 shrimp tempura, karaage and lotus tempura. The tempura was decent, lost some of the crunchiness but it was still good. Now, the Udon could use a lot of work. The broth was lukewarm, which contributed to the downfall of the dish. If they served the broth hot, cooked the noodles in a hot water - the experience might been different.

We had a quick lunch here! This is in the food court of Mitsuwa Market! Service was quick! I ordered the beef udon regular bowl and 5 mins later, I received my order! They had a lot of choices of different tempura items that you can choose from, I chose the green beans tempura, it was ok, cause it was cold and tempura you really need it hot!

Glad I found a cold udon place in Illinois! Tasty and affordable! 🤤

Came here from Dallas. It was like $9 for a bowl of udon absolutely loaded with chicken. The chicken was unbelievably tender and the broth was super good. Like unironically, this was the best udon I've ever had and it was like $5 cheaper than what I'm used to in Dallas. And the lady was very nice.

Love that there is a selection of tempura that you can pick and choose as you please without required to buy a bowl of udon. This serves us well as we like to try different things in the food court but still want a few tempura. Service. Quick and friendly. Food. Great tempura and a variety of sauces to match, quick you can select on the side.

Google
Got the kane udon with the onion, sweet potato, and shrimp tempura. You first get your udon (picking either regular or large size), and then pick out from the variety of different tempuras that they have, and then top your udon with the flakes and green onion. The taste was pretty good, not the best I’ve had but decent. The total was around $11.

Yelp
Hmmm, this food stand has been around for a while and I thought I might have eaten here and reviewed the place before but maybe not. It's also possible it was under a different name before 2017, but anyway... It was lunch time here at Mitsuwa Marketplace, and I perused the menu and tried their large tonkotsu udon bowl for $10.35. It was a good sized and delicious serving at a reasonable price and it hit the spot. Thumbs up!

Yelp
If you're seeing this review twice... it's bc it's in 2 places since I'm not sure which page gets looked at more. This quick food stop is located in the food court of mitsuwa. There are a few udon options to pick which protein you'd like and also if you'd like your soup hot or cold. There are also tempura sides you are able to grab (additional price) on your own. The udon noodles are fresh and taste deliciously homemade. This is reasonably priced but can get expensive if you decide to add multiple tempura sides.

Yelp
My friend and I stopped by Mitsuwa this Tuesday evening before my flight back home. What a fantastic choice! The cafeteria had a lot of various vendors selling mainly Japanese food, and sanukiseimen was one of them. The udon here is already pre-made. As in, you order your udon and they will assemble it immediately after with the already cooked udon, broth, and whatever topping/meat options you asked for. They also have a "get-it-yourself" toppings bar and you'll be charged for whatever you get. I got the small KITSUNE UDON which was under 7.00 (pre-tax). For what it was, it's not bad. You get a good amount of udon (a bit soggy), three well-marinated fried tofus and warm udon broth. I was craving warm broths, so this hit the spot. Sadly, they were already out of eggs for the day, otherwise I would have gotten one with my udon. Cheap and quick eats, for it is, it's not too bad.

Yelp
The line moved at a decent pace at 2 pm on a Saturday. The line was shorter than most of the food stalls. You order, wait to receive the bowl, pick your tempura toppings and pay at the end. It is all done in one line. If the person's order in front of you is long, then the line won't move. When you pay at the end, you can ask for a cup of water and add toppings such as scallions, red pepper, sesame seeds, etc. My spicy tonkatsu udon came out hot and spicy. (It was spicier than the spicy curry udon.) There was 2 pieces of tonkatsu. The tonkatsu was juicy and yummy, but I wished there were more pieces. I got the regular size, and I finished the udon in about 5 bites. It was definitely delicious, but for the price, I would try something else on the menu. The food court is packed and loud on a Saturday lunch time. I would recommend finding an open table and have someone order for you.

Yelp
We were initially drawn to this place because it was so cheap and the quantities looked so big. Each bowl of udon was advertised to be around $6-7 which is insane!!! But our single digit meal dream got shattered real quick when we realized each tempura add-on was like $3. Overall, I still thought that this was a pretty solid meal. The noodles were well cooked and they gave you SO MUCH. It was enough to feed two not-very-hungry people. We got the hot & spicy udon soup and it was definitely more on the sweet side than the spicy side until we added in spicy furikake. Honestly, it was pretty good, my biggest complaint would be that the soup was more room temperature than hot which took away from the overall noodle soup experience. We got the tempura shrimp and the pork and both were kinda mid. Service was super quick since we only had to wait for the noodle soup. Our total price with two tempura pieces was around $13.

Yelp
I drive 90 minutes just to wait in line for this udon shop. I've had both hot and cold udon bowls here and always regret not getting the larger size! The noodles are chewy and such a good texture. The broths are always delicious and flavorful. I'm in love with all the tempura options, from veggies to eggs, as well as fried chicken. Service is always fast so the line moves faster than expected. The prices are also quite reasonable. Highly recommend!

Yelp
my favorite place to eat at mitsuwa marketplace! when i find something i love, i just keep getting that and their tonkotsu udon is perfection - rich broth, luscious noodles and perfect pork. reasonably priced and they serve quick compared to some of the stalls. they also have a special sometimes, it is just rice with pork belly but it is perfection and also reasonably priced and if i had to have either of these as my last dish, i would die happy.

Yelp
My wife & I drive to Mitsuwa to buy some things that we needed. We decided to eat @ Sanukiseumen which is located in the small food court area in Mitsuwa. I ordered the beef udon which came w/thinly sliced beef pieces in a soy based broth. My wife ordered the pork Tonkatsu in a thick pork based miso broth. I liked hers better as the broth was more flavorful then mine. Like most places as they try to reopen the spacing was evident to try and prevent the spread of Covid.

Yelp
The food is ok. I got the beef udon and it was cold. They serve food the fastest compared to the other restaurants in the food market (court) area. However, the worst is the girl serving everyone's food. She got a lot of attitude and giving everyone eyes roll. She repeated the order wrong back to me so when I corrected her and she responded by shaking her head at me. I'm sorry Spanish is your first language but I gave the order using the number and you said repeated back incorrectly. Just smile and fix the order that's all you have to do. Not behave like a little cunt. Maybe this place is desperate for help. But, she does not need to work there anymore.

Yelp
Several restaurants at the Mitsuwa Food Court have been converted (read as replaced) and Sanukiseimen is one of the new replacements. We hadn't tried it before partly because we are creatures of habit and we keep going back to the ones we know and like. Also, when we initially checked out their menu, it seemed that the different varieties of Udon were reasonably priced but adding individually-priced pieces of Tempura could add up quickly. Then there was a Tempura restaurant two booths away. Today, we decided to give it a try. We figured out that it is set up with lots of flexibility because you can just order one of the Udon dishes; you can add one or more pieces of Tempura to make Tempura Udon; or enjoy extra pieces of Tempura by themselves. They also have Aji Fry (Mackerel) and Veggie Croquettes to eat with Tonkatsu Sauce and Japanese Curry Rice as well. We decided to order Ontama Udon. On the side, we picked one slice of Onion Tempura, two Shrimp Tempura, two Sweet Potato Tempura. Two Aji Fry and two Veggie Croquettes were also added. We added one Shrimp and one Sweet Potato into the Udon and the remaining Tempura pieces were eaten as Tempura to dip in Tempura sauce with Daikon Oroshi. The Aji Fry and Croquettes were dipped in Tonkatsu Sauce and eaten like that! In the end, we had several meals in one and everything was delicious. One concern I initially had was picking a la carte pieces of Tempura and other fried items that were sitting under a heat lamp. We were there just as they opened so everything was hot and more was placed there as we were ordering. Also, they were getting enough customers that they were constantly adding freshly fried items. The staff were very helpful and friendly in explaining and answering questions. We will definitely be trying more choices and combinations in future trips to Chicago.

Yelp
Terrible carry out experience. Got the bukkake udon. 1. No eggs 2. Did not have any tempura flakes in the carryout 3. Nothing other than noodles and soy sauce. Horrible

Yelp
Located in the matsuwa food court, they offer udon that you can customize. Prices were reasonable. They increase as you add ingredients. I ordered the sukiyaki bowl as a side for $3.50. They allow you scoop the green onions and tempura bits and add as much as you want. I love the concept, but we had something similar in Hawaii that was so much better.

Yelp
I came here for lunch after chopping down our Christmas tree. I like that after ordering your noodle, you have a variety of tempura to choose from under the heat lamps. It was the shortest line out of all of them (except for the Korean spot), which is helpful when you're trying to get in and out quickly.

Yelp
Really wanted to try their butter udon, went twice on different days and it's still not available. Caved in and tried one of their other specialty udon (forgot the name but it was on a poster next to the butter udon). There wasn't a ton of broths, but they did give a lot of meat! Egg seemed slightly too undercooked for me, but overall delicious! We also ordered a side of chashu pork which came with lots of green onion and a lotus root tempura that I really enjoyed!

Yelp
Great fish and vegetable tempura. Really appreciated the way in which they let customers select our own tempura pieces from a buffet type setting. Then the cashier glances at the plate, adds everything up at lightning speed and rings you up. Very reasonable and quite tasty. My favorite is the potato cake tempura, with a light crust loaded with flavor. Close to the cashier are bottles of hot pepper flakes, a bowl of ginger and chopped green onions which are free condiments.

Yelp
Just ok. Located in the Mitsuwa Marketplace (which is probably known for it's famous food court). Queue was empty, and I figured a nice bowl of hot udon would be perfect for a cold evening. (I know everyone always raves about the ramen place next door, but I'm a udon guy first!) Fairly simple here. Look at the menu, order at the window, grab a tray, get your bowl or curry plate and then proceed down the way to the tempura section. Then pay. Nothing was especially "hot". You'd figure the udon in soup "Kake" would be in a bowl of hot soup. It was tepid. I ordered both the Kake and the Bukake (in a savory sauce). You get the option for either hot or cold a few of the preparations. Maybe he mistaken me for in-between? Price is fairly good if you don't add any protein or tempura to it. Basically $6-7 Tempura ranges from $.50-$1 each for shrimp, sweet potato, veggies, and chicken karagee (which was less than warm, almost room temp). They should make use of heat lamps...just unappetizing. The Bukake sauce was pretty decent. I adding in my own blend of toppings including green onions, ginger, sesame seeds, soy sauce and togarashi. I think value is good. But I always like my food hot.

Yelp
Good fried chicken with a light drizzles mirin and soy sauce on slivers of cabbage . Nice crunch to the fried chicken . Would love something to spice it up. The French dressing was surprisingly decent. New place around a year old . Place your order and they'll call your number. Pay attention it's really loud in food court.

Yelp
My cousin and I came to Mitsuwa because she wanted ramen. I've been before for sushi, but now their sushi has more rice than fish and the price, at the same time has gone up. Quality is not where it used to be. I wasn't in the mood for ramen so I choose to get the spicy tonkotsu udon. I was excited because it was my fav ramen broth, but with the udon noodles I wanted. They even had a tempura bar, which was fun. I got sweet potato, shrimp and shishito pepper tempuras. The tempuras are pretty good. Not hot, but delicious and crunchy. The udon, on the other hand, was a disappointment. The broth was lukewarm...not even hot. It was a cold day and I wanted hot soup. The broth wasn't as tasty as I wanted it to be either...it tasted a bit water down. The noodles were good and the veggies in the soup were also very good, but I was mildly disappointed by the whole experience. TLDR: Get the ramen instead at the other food stall. Pick up some tempura here a la carte.

Yelp
This is my second time here, although the food is good, this white guy in the cashier never failed to disappoint me, twice, even bfore signing my card he asked for tip already, second time i pay cash, and even bfore handing me my tip, he ask me "would u like your change?" Im like, r u kidding me? Hand me my change first bfore asking for a tip, stop assuming that my change is yours already!!! Right after he gave me my change, i put it in the tip box, Hey dude! U have to wait! If customers r pleased with ur service and food they will give u tip! This white guy is something! Then the girl nxt to me, he also did the same thing! I heard the girl said "u know what keep the change, but dont ask me if i want my change! This guy akso did the same thing to my two friends! We dnt recommend this place! Unprofessional! Ur not a strip club hey! You are a fast food! Y the hell do u demand for tip, its customers decision! U cant just take the money! Visit there and experience it for yourself!

Yelp
I honestly love the udon soups here, I keep coming back for them as they have an good broth, noodles, and ingredients. I also love all the great variety of options you have in terms of the type of udon soups you can order, and I adore the boiled egg (ontama). The tempura is really good too for an decent price with an great selection, I'm especially into the sweet potato and onion tempura. Another plus is that once you order, you only have to wait a few minutes for the soup.

Yelp
Kitsune udon should NOT have inari wrap instead of aburaage!! It's not the same thing
