Sanyoung Surf & Turf BBQ - Review - Bellevue - Seattle - The Infatuation

"This Bellevue Chinese restaurant specializes in grilled skewers, including slices of bread, abalone, chicken gizzards, and lots of other stuff on sticks. Each table is also equipped with a hot plate to make sure food coming out of the kitchen stays warm. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Kayla Sager-Riley

Reasonably priced, very clean. You can order via a digital menu. Wait wasn't long to be seated (though we made reservations). There's a cute little private room you can sit in as well. Food took quite a while to arrive and was pretty salty but was still okay. Menu doesn't have much in the way of veggies. We received gizzards instead of chicken heart for one of our orders.

Restaurant is clean and well-decorated. Plenty of natural lighting and eye pleasing wall decorations. Fast and friendly service. You can order by scanning a QR code from your table and food will arrive once you place your order from your phone. Plenty of skewer and Chinese hot dish options. Their skewers are really flavorful and full of spices. Most of the ones we ordered, such as grilled ribeye and chicken skin are a bit spicy but I love the spice and flavor. They have a hot plate for each table to keep the skewers warm and bucket to place the skewer sticks. They have plenty of other Chinese dish and would love to come back the try them. Plenty of parking space around the restaurant.

Amazing skewers at a higher cost - Food: 5 stars Service: 3 stars Price: 3 stars Ambiance: 3 stars Overall: 3.5 stars I hesitated to try this place because I've seen the menu and I thought it was quite pricy in my standard. However, it was the only place that opened late when we needed to eat out with our friends, so we tried it out. It was Saturday night around 8pm, but they were quite packed (around 70%). We got our seats right away and they gave us the small tea cups for the water (water bottle was already on the table). We ordered a bunch of stuff since we had a special coupon from Asian Family Market for their Lunar New Year celebration. Here are the list of things that we ordered: - Grilled beef tongue 烤牛舌 $2.99/skewer - Grilled Beef ribeye skewer 烤肋眼牛肉串 $3.49/skewer - Grilled lamb skewer 烤羊肉串 $1.99/skewer - Grilled pork belly 烤五花肉串 $1.99/skewer - Grilled chicken gizzards 烤雞胗 $2.49/skewer - Grilled sausage 烤火腿腸 $2.99/skewer - Grilled scallop 烤帶子(扇貝) $2.99/skewer - Grilled cauliflower 烤花菜 $1.99/skewer - Grilled mushrooms 烤蘑菇 $1.66/skewer - Grilled garlic eggplant 烤蒜泥茄子 $8.99 - Baked clams with vermicelli in tin foil 錫紙花甲粉 $14.99. All of the food was delicious, but the beef tongue was especially good. The beef ribeye was a bit dry for me, so I'd recommend getting the lamb instead (both original and marinated were good). The last two dishes were bigger, but they were delicious as well. The baked clams were a bit spicy with tons of chili peppers. We didn't order any starch, and we were probably about 80% full when we left. I'd recommend ordering the grilled bread so you can be more full. The downside of this place is that they speak mostly Chinese and they were reluctant to tell us what the skewers are until I asked them. I'm not sure how it'd be for people who don't speak chinese, but I do see a group of non-Chinese speakers dining there. I'd come back here again for other social events in the future! ------------------------------------------------------- -update 05/28/25 - We came back 3 times so far. They have changed the order unit of skewers, so you have to get 4 lamb skewers at once for $7.99, etc. It's still amazing and they added more new dishes now.

If you are a fan of Southern Chinese style charcoal bbq, you will love this restaurant. They use high quality beef for their beef skewers. I am ecstatic to find stir fried instant noodles. It also has grilled Wangzhongwang sausage. The service is great too. The price is reasonable. Strongly recommend.

Google
Pretty good skewers! Well seasoned, maybe slightly too salty, but good with rice. I like that they have different seasoning on different cuts of meat. A minor con is that you can’t grill your own skewers, which is what I think you’re supposed to be able to do because of the mini stove on each table. They have a good variety of cuts - organ meat aplenty, different meats, even seafood and geoduck. Would come again if I’m in the area!

Google
A fantastic spot for authentic Chinese-style BBQ. The skewers were grilled to perfection — especially the lamb and beef, juicy and flavorful with just the right amount of spice. The atmosphere is casual and perfect for groups. Definitely a go-to spot for anyone craving Northern Chinese BBQ flavors.

Google
Very authentic Chinese bbq skewers “chuanchuan” traditional night market street food! I would say everything on menu we tried was pretty impressive! My dad as a top level Chinese chef, I tried many different Chinese cuisines, I would give current cooking team a 5 stars rating. One of fav. Restaurant in Bellevue, definitely top 5. Love Jenny the host and the lead server always welcomed you with a big warm smile! If you can’t handle too much heat, ask for modified version of any dish, they will make it non-spicy for you. Still very tasty! Recommended! I also took home the leftover geoduck’s shell for my fish pond, worked well as an additional decoration piece. 🤣

Google
Pros: Charming, bright and clean interior. Seated fast; came early on Saturday for dinner, 5:30 pm already almost packed. Skewers came out fast and flavorful. Cons: Most of the skewers were lukewarm and some were too salty. Lotus root severely undercooked. Food came out slowly because understaffed (one chef). Clams dish was meh; mostly empty shells.

Yelp
Nice environment, good service! First time trying., a good place for friends and family to get together. Bbq selection is a bit limited, and 羊肉串only has 4 in one order which is a difficult for family order Should have been 6 in my opinion.

Yelp
I have been to this place two times and have had a very positive experience both times. On Monday - Thursdays starting 9:30 PM they offer a deal where each customer can get their first beer 90% off or a soft drink for free. I tried the following skewers and they were all delicious. Only downside is the cost is fairly high. 1. Grilled leaks $8.99 2. Lamb skewers $7.99 3. Grilled beef ribeye $13.99 4. Grilled pork belly $7.99 I also tried the following tin foil series which I highly recommend. 1.Baked clams with vermicelli tin foil 2. Foil wrapped scallop and shrimp

Yelp
better than shinya shokudo just goes to show how important the quality & taste of food matters more than anything else no need for fancy service no need to try and be something you're not

Yelp
Call out to adventurous eaters! You'll be rewarded with unique and delicious flavors and textures. For the Surf, we had the clams with vermicelli - a true flavor explosion. Had to add in rice to soak up the delicious sauce. For the Turf - So many different varieties of skewers - don't be afraid to try those out of your comfort zone. The gizzards are one of my favs. Don't miss the pork belly and the wings. The wonton soup has a flavor that was nothing I've tasted before - the broth was amazing. The restaurant had a luxe glamping vibe that pairs well with the bbq skewers. Our server was very nice but spoke limited English (in my book, a good thing). Not to fail, you order through the QR code, adding items until you're satisfied!

Yelp
Was craving some meat and rice, and I'd seen pictures on Yelp of the instant noodles, which looked really good to me. I thought there was going to be a lot more skewer options, but they did still have a good amount, and the main popular ones. I wanted to try some of their main dishes, but wasn't too hungry at the time, and they're all a bit on the pricier end. We ordered the skewers of pork belly, beef ribeye, beef tongue, chicken skin, and corn, and I had to try the Fried Instant Noodles. I really liked the Fried Instant Noodles, just wished they had some chili oil for it. As someone had mentioned in their review, there is a language barrier. We didn't always understand each other. She even used a translating app on her phone once. But she was wonderful, and really tried to make sure we both understood each other. But I did try to ask for chili oil or any kind of hot sauce, but it looked like they just had some kind of BBQ seasoning? The meat skewers were good, just thought the pork belly was a bit salty and the ribeye was a bit dry. We weren't sure at first if we ordered enough food, but we did end up getting full. Service was great and super friendly. Would come again.

Yelp
Love the addition of Chinese BBQ skewers to Bellevue! I came here with a fairly large party (8 or 9 people) on a Saturday night, and we were able to get seated immediately, though we did call ahead so that they were able to reserve a table for us - I would recommend doing this for large parties as they do get pretty busy). Ordering is done through phone + QR code, and we ended up ordering a pretty large variety of different skewers. I enjoyed the lamb and beef skewers, as well as the grilled eggplant, but after a while everything ends up tasting the same due to the cumin. It would also be nice if each skewer had bigger pieces of meat, our bill racked up quite a bit but none of us left feeling that full. Staff was overall okay, but we didn't receive some of our ordered skewers and some of the staff that was handing out the skewers seemed pretty confused when we were trying to explain the situation to them. Communication is easier if you speak Mandarin. Location is convenient, next to Crossroads mall (where Dough Zone used to be). Overall I liked the food and concept but I think you could get better bang for your buck elsewhere.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place a lot more than I did when I went, but probably because it was quite busy... and then it wasn't. I went here with two other friends on a Friday night around 7pm and had to wait for a bit because it was packed inside. Speaking of the inside, it's brightly lit and has a very apparent smell of lamb once you enter. When you get seated, you order using a QR code and place whatever orders you want. Most of the dishes consisted of meat skewers but there were a sizable number of other dishes, some of which we got. We did place our order and for some reason the first time around our order didn't go through, and it took servers a while to figure out what happened, and they asked us to input our order in again. When we did and it finally went through on their system, our food still took a long time to come, and we were in a rush to get to a movie we already got tickets for. Even after some attempts to ask the servers to get our food quickly (combined with the place not being packed anymore by the time we got our order in), we paid only for what we got and didn't get everything we ordered in the end. Needless to say, service was lacking here. As for the food, wow was it flavorful all the way through! So much so that it probably redeemed the poor service we got. - For skewers, we got grilling wings, throat cartilage, lamb, pork belly, beef ribeye, chicken crispy bones, beef tongue, chicken heart and chicken gizzard skewers. Most if not all of these skewers came in sets of 4 (chicken heart and gizzard had 2, and grilling wings was only 1), and were packed with pepper and some spice. All of these were the highlights of our meal. - The baked clams with vermicelli was a great addition for our table, though it was small in size and there was some sand in some of them. Not much meat in them either. - The garlic eggplant was also kinda small yet it tasted the same way as the skewers themselves; great and full of flavor. Probably to sum things up, the skewers are by far the best part, and other dishes didn't stack up to it. Solely because of this, I wanna come back when I'm not in a rush to try their stuff again.

Yelp
Cumin..if you don't like cumin don't come here. That's the first thing you smell as you enter. We were sat pretty promptly at 6:45pm. Ordering is through QR menu and super fast. As much as the ordering was fast, the service was a bit slow. Things didn't really come out "in order" per se. Would've liked the cold dishes before the skewers. Speaking of skewers they were good, but after awhile everything tasted a little one note due to the same seasoning. The contraption that keeps it "hot" is also only kept warm by tea candles underneath so there is no sizzle. Sanyoung's menu would need to expand on its variety. Other dishes were quite massive for it's price. We didn't expect big plates as some skewers were pretty pricey in comparison. If ordering the class, be sure to check as 9 of our clams did not open. Overall, I think there are definitely improvements to the food and service speed, but all in all pretty solid place to try at least once.

Yelp
Everything was delicious! Fast service as well! The wagyu beef skewers fatty and juice.

Yelp
I LOVE CHINESE SKEWERS! I was so excited when I saw this place by chance yesterday and it seems like it must be in grand opening because they were giving people free stuff/discounts (by raffle drawing, you pick a random prize out of a box. We got a free plate of chives, so we ended up with two plates of chives haha). It cost us about $20pp, and everything was tasty! The marinated lamb was an interesting flavor that I haven't had at other skewer places before. I really like the cartilage! And the lamb is pretty good :) Place is pretty clean, plenty of parking in the mall, I like the skewer heater hot tray thing. :D

Yelp
Food is good, but service is way too slow. The way they are operating the back kitchen and front service needs improvement. The servers are running around but the food is not coming out fast enough. My last order never came so I was left sitting for 30 minutes with nothing to do or eat. I asked if the order of scallop was coming yet, if not to cancel it. They try to reassure me and said it's being cook right now and coming out soon. Another 15 minutes goes by and I just tell them to cancel the order so I could go somewhere else to eat. The interior is really cute and modern and food is good if it came out in a moderate amount of time, but would not be coming back. I saw many groups sitting with nothing on their tables for a long time too.

Yelp
Brand new Chinese BBQ skewers restaurant with also "tin foil" and hot plate dishes. We were too lazy to cook on Christmas day, so hit it up for dinner. We were early, and there were already a few tables ahead of us. Service was prompt and friendly, and the servers came multiple times to ask about the flavor and done-ness of the skewers. They needn't have worried as all the skewers were perfectly seasoned and nicely charred. The meat was tender and thoroughly marinated. All the meats were elegantly flavored. The spice not overpowering the fragrance of the meat. Medium spice level was perfect for my family, and a shaker of spice was provided just in case you need a little more. We did not try the non-marinated selections as I love the cumin/spicy/numbing flavors of Chinese BBQ. As were newly open, as a welcome, they had a lucky draw and we were lucky to get 3 skewers of pork belly.

Chiang H.

Yelp
The service was great and very personal, can definitely enjoy a nice cold beer and a couple skewers after a long day of work!! Blessed!

Zheng L.

Yelp
This Chinese BBQ spot seriously delivers -- the lamb skewers are Perfectly grilled with a smoky char, packed with cumin and chili, and super tender with no gaminess. You can taste the freshness. Casual vibe, quick service, and great for a late-night snack or beer with friends. Don't miss the grilled buns and wings too, but the lamb is the real star.
google avatar

Christy C.

Yelp
The skewers were all solid but it must have been an off week since half of menu items were not available. The meal was definitely lacking continuity as we were consistently waiting for the next skewers to come out. Our waiter was not very engaging, barely told us what skewers were what so we were left guessing what meat we were eating. The potatoes were oddly over priced and underwhelming. Otherwise, all the meats were well seasoned with a lot of cumin. My only other wish was for some hot tea but it wasn't an option on the menu.

Yelp
I really like Chinese skewers (especially lamb) so was very excited this opened, but my experience wasn't very good. For the positive: The food we got, if it was hot (unfortunately not many were), was good. And portion sizes were fine as well, especially the non-skewer dish we ordered (dry pot cauliflower). Negatives: I went on a Saturday night and it was extremely busy, so I can forgive a bit of slowdown on the food. However, there were a bunch of other problems. I tried calling ahead to see how long the wait was, but when I started speaking they immediately hung up - I think they do not speak English (I tried later with Chinese and they were more accommodating). The hot plate for our table, which should have kept our food warm/heated it up, was cold. I had to flag down multiple staffers and ask for them to reignite it, and then of course it took a while to reheat. Of our ordered items, we ordered 2x each original and marinated lamb - but they looked all the same. When I asked which was marinated, the server basically shrugged and said they were all original. The beef skewer was cold, and the sausage skewer we ordered never came even after 2.5 hours, and eventually I just cancelled it. I'm curious to know how much of my bad experience was due to the busyness. I'll have to come again at a quieter time to see how it is.
google avatar

Krystal L.

Yelp
Food was mid and the service has room for improvement. The space is spacious but the kitchen fans/vents don't work too well, you can see the smoke inside the restaurant at your tables. The food was either extremely salty or had no flavor at all. The only delicious thing I ate was the spicy century egg dish. We ordered the scallops, abalone, and other items but never got them. Their beef was overcooked and chicken skin was not crispy at all. Oyster was also raw instead of grilled. I'd love to come back here and give it another try but they've got some room for improvement.

Yelp
Tried this new place and it's very tasty. We had the - beef skewers ($14 for 4- wish it was more charred), eggplant (nice and soft but a bit spicy- $9), bacon and enoki mushroom ($5- good flavor not too oily) baby abalone (soft and tender- $8), corn (sweet and salty - $4), chicken wings ($5.50- juicy). The warming plate never really got warm- so it's nice to put the skewers on, but not sure it added much to the meal. The fried instant noodle was excellent - it did take a while to get though - the noodles were chewy - some sort of soy sauce flavor that my kiddo gobbled up. In general this place is great for a quick meal, but could be a little lighter on the salt. Will be back. In full disclosure - you do get salted peanuts for writing a review but it's not required to give them a high rating so this is all my own opinions.

Yelp
Super good taste, highly recommend for friends having meals and fun together! I like the grilled chicken skin the best!

Yelp
Limited selection of skewers, take a look at the menu. We had the Pork belly, lamb, and our favorite chicken skin. The cim seasoning is quite tasty. We also had the fried noodles (was ok). Glad we tried this new spot. The vibe is fun with the camp fire theme.

Yelp
What a gem! Super cute atmosphere and friendly service. All of the food was delicious and packed with flavor! Definitely on the spicier side. We loved the pork belly skewers, the wontons, the clams, and the bacon wrapped enoki. The eggplant was great too! Nice refreshing beers to wash it all down. Highly recommend!

Joseph H.

Yelp
We ordered 12 skewers and it took the restaurant 30 minutes to fulfill our order. Once we finally got the lamb, pork belly, and squid tentacle skewers they were all cold except for the pork belly. The little hot table they provide to keep the skewers hot is useless and didn't increase the temperature at all. The seasoning on the meat is very good but if the restaurant can't even cook their food hot then there's no point in eating it. The restaurant was only half full so there's no reason why our food should have taken so long only to have it come out cold. Highly disappointed.

Yelp
Owners are nice and friendly. The place is really clean and nicely decorated. Orders are done on their website. The food is reasonably priced and seasoned well. However, they cook at too low a temperature. The meat doesn't get that grilled flavor and at times undercooked. If cooked at higher temperature, no doubt the food would taste much better and deserve 4 or 5 stars.

Phong T.

Yelp
Good environment, good service , delicious food. The location is convenient, lots of parking. I will come back again.

Yelp
Amazing bbq choice, authentic Chinese seasoning with great variety of selections available (chicken skins, gizzards, clams, oysters)... Good vibe and interior design for family and friends gathering with ample seating. Clean and spacious table.

Yelp

Yelp
Super delicious, highly recommend chicken heart! It's clean and yummy. I would bring my friend here next time.

Yelp
Great food and glad to see that this could become a staple late night option in Bellevue. Got in at around 10PM and wanted to order some of their cold appetizers and skewers, only to find out that the kitchen was only serving skewers at this time. Their skewers were super flavorful and delicious. I had the mushroom and toast skewers and my friends ordered some meat ones which they all only had good things to say about. The toast skewers tasted pretty interesting and we asked the waiter about it. They came back later giving us 3 extra toast skewers! Was a pleasant surprise. Would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a late night option in Bellevue. Restaurant is well lit and pretty clean too.

Yelp

Yelp
This Chinese skewers barbecue here is an absolute must-try! The skewers are served hot and fresh, and very tasty. I highly recommend the marinated lamb which is absolutely tender and flavored. The camping-style atmosphere adds a unique charm to the dining experience. The staffs are friendly and attentive as well.
