Art and Culture in São Paulo

"Home to more than 5,000 works of art, most of which are paintings and sculptures, the MAM showcases the works of Brazilian artists like Laura Lima and Vik Muniz, making it an excellent representation of the country’s artistic talent. The main exhibitions are displayed across two rooms and follow an annual schedule divided into four seasons. Every other year, the MAM hosts the Panorama of Brazilian Art, an event that aims to open the Brazilian contemporary art scene to locals and tourists. Admission is $1.90 at full price and $0.90 for students. Entry is free on Saturdays." - MATADOR_NETWORK

MAM São Paulo is one of the most inspiring cultural spaces in the city — a museum that feels alive, thoughtful, and deeply connected to Brazil’s artistic soul. Located inside Ibirapuera Park, the setting alone is worth the visit, but once inside, the experience becomes truly special. The galleries are beautifully curated, showcasing a powerful mix of modern and contemporary Brazilian art alongside international works. The exhibitions are engaging, well-designed, and often surprising — the kind of art that invites you to pause, reflect, and see the world from a new angle. I loved how the museum balances bold creativity with quiet, intimate moments. The space itself is open, bright, and easy to navigate. The architecture creates a sense of calm, making it the perfect place to spend an afternoon exploring. The staff were welcoming and helpful, contributing to the overall warm atmosphere. One of the highlights is the sculpture garden just outside — a peaceful, beautifully landscaped area where art blends naturally with nature. It’s a perfect extension of the museum and a wonderful place to relax. MAM also has an excellent café and bookstore, both of which add to the experience without feeling commercial. Everything feels intentional and artist-focused. Whether you’re an art lover or simply curious, MAM São Paulo is a must-visit. It captures the essence of creativity in Brazil and offers a refreshing, inspiring experience right in the heart of Ibirapuera Park. Highly recommended.

Amazing modern art museum containing some of the most cutting edge pieces of art work in the area. Every year they sponsor new developing artists to showcase their work bringing to light the definition of a modern art museum. Admission prices are extremely low and the staff is extremely friendly. They even sponsored a dance show outside of the museum with street performers form all over the city congregating here to show off their moves. Some of them quite impressive and a large crowd was gathering outside. Inside is a mostly tranquil Oasis and the system was broken so they were letting people in for free as well. There's also no admission on Saturdays which makes it a great spot to swing by and take in the artwork. Parking is plentiful nearby but may fill during peak periods.

This place is not a museum, it is more of an art gallery with a temporary exhibition - 2 rooms in which there are some things that can hardly be called art. There are no descriptions of what they refer to next to the 'works', there is only a note about the author. I did it in less than 18 minutes. Others write about 10 minutes in their opinions. The only plus is that I visited the exhibition on Sunday, when the entrance is free. At least I saved my money. No folders or any informations in english at entrance

It's not really a musuem musuem but more like a gallery that features rotating artists and exhibitions. We went during the time they featured George Love and his photography journey. Got some really good insights. Spent about 2hours here.

It is a the Modern Brazilian Art Museum (MAM). It is free entry. It is kinda small but very worth it. Staff is nice and very polite. The building has a very interesting structure. It has a very nice museum practicum and education work. Most of the pieces are allow to take pictures, some of them not. If you have a back pack or you are carrying something big, you have to left it on the principal desk on the entry.

Nice small museum, well kept. One big main hall with expositions that vary (for our visit it was not actual modern art) and a smaller more modern gallery. Regular price is 7brl and can be toured in 20min.

The museum is tiny. Only has 2 rooms. And I spent 20 minutes in the line. For some reason they need your name and email address to allow entry.
