"Saporitalia is the kind of family-run, old-school Italian spot that has garlands of dried chillies hanging above the bar and chequerboard floors, and where birthdays are celebrated with a round of fountain candles stuck in tiramisu. The troughs of pasta are great and classic dishes like parmigiana di melanzane are comforting. When the weather’s nice, the quaint outdoor terrace is a lovely place to be." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna
"Two words: wooden panelling. It’s one of our favourite aesthetic hints that we’re in cosy Italian stalwart territory. Saporitalia has that laid-back look, is family-run, and completely unpretentious. The relaxed attitude means you may find yourself waiting for your order a little longer than you’d like, but if you’re ready to accept that, you’re in for a great time. The staff are friendly and the food is good. Not earth-shattering, but always satisfying and at prices that are in keeping with Saporitalia’s status as a firm Portobello Road favourite." - jake missing, heidi lauth beasley, rianne shlebak
"We love seeing our friends. And when we say friends, we mean the anonymous delivery driver that knocks at our door and runs away. We also love eating big pizzas with a side of rigatoni alla norma, with some garlic focaccia thrown in for good measure. Saporitalia are delivering all of the above from Notting Hill, and yes there is tiramisu too." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing
"If we were going to describe Notting Hill’s Saporitalia in one word, we’d say old school. Okay, technically that’s two words, but the point is that this classic, lowkey spot is serving some very decent pizza. You’ll find all of the classic pizza combinations on their long menu, as well as wine, pasta dishes, and of course, a tiramisu." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, rianne shlebak
"That friend who you’ve been counseling through a horrible on-again/off-again relationship for the last nine months just announced on the internet that their pet frog Hugo just died. It’s time to set the ‘do not disturb’ on your phone and seek refuge at Saporitalia. The pizzas make for the perfect carbloading meal before the cry-a-thon you’re no doubt in for when you leave this place. Maybe never leave this place?" - heidi lauth beasley, eileen twum
