We got an early dinner to go, because we have the pups with us for this trip and couldn't dine in with them. My husband placed our order from the parking lot, while I was picking up a few things from the nearby CVS.
As I usually do when trying new Indian restaurants, I ordered their version of the Daal Makhani ($15), mild. My husband got their Saag Paneer ($16), extra spicy. We also ordered garlic naan ($4) to share.
They certainly seem to do some really good business. While I waited in the car with the mongrels, I saw no fewer than 10 different groups of people walk into the restaurant. Hubs said there was a party happening in their party space, which made sense.
At any rate, the hotel we're in for these next few days is just down the street from this restaurant, so we were back with the delicious smelling bags of food in no time. The serving sizes were generous, from the included rice to the entrees to the naan pieces.
Thing is, I'm pretty sure they mixed up the dish that was supposed to be extra spicy. I say this because on my first taste - just a nibble of the Makhani after an initial stir - my reactions went, in this order: ooh, that's super creamy! And really salty. And spicy!
It got spicier as I ate, to the point where my nose was running, my stomach was protesting and my tongue refused to let anything else past. My husband said his Paneer wasn't spicy at all, which of course was a disappointment to him. Listen, I do love a good spicy meal, but I want to be able to enjoy the food, I don't want to have to fight with it.
Because of that, I wasn't able to finish my meal. And honestly, even if it hadn't been burn-yer-hole spicy, I probably wouldn't have been able to finish it, either. It was just so salty.
My husband did like his meal, at least. He polished his bowl off in no time and said the paneer had great texture and flavor, and that the dish was tasty overall.
