3 Midtown Japanese Mainstays Will Close This Week - Eater NY
"Sapporo was the first to open at 152 West 49 St. near Seventh Avenue in 1975, bringing miso and shoyu ramen to New York City when not much — if any, as the restaurant claims — existed." - Stefanie Tuder
CASH ONLY. This place has some great Japanese food. I always get either chicken and beef buns. Their Katsu curry is delicious. Food comes out really fast and service is great. Gets really packed during lunch hours.

Service was prompt and polite, and their menu had a good variety of food fit for both the adults in the group and the kids. They also had something I had to try when I saw it on the menu: okonomiyaki stick, which was exactly what it claimed to be, and quite good.

I am leaving the 2 stars because the food was excellent... I totally enjoyed it... the reason that I won’t be back ever is that the service was ridiculous... we were two people spending 80 dollars for food... so it’s wasn’t a cheap dinner... after we paid the bill we left 9 dollars as a tip... when this guy noticed that he came back in the table saying that we didn’t left back enough tip... I was shocked... We left 10 dollars almost which is the 15 per cent of our dinner... anyway I gave two dollars more and left the place... This guy made as look like fools for 1 dollar... you can’t actually do that to people... this is not acceptable for me ... I don’t care about the money but the attitude was bad and I felt I was cheep... to bad because they have a great food... I really enjoyed my meal there but not going back...

This Japanese restaurant is amazing. I love their ramen, which is really good. The Gyu-don (beef bowl) is very yummy too. I definitely would recommend this restaurant.

Rating is for the Ramen experience. Excellent! Ordered Tonkotsu Ramen. Broth- it is so rich and flavorful. Creamy and some thickness to it. Great delicious flavor. Noodles- tasty and chewy. The way ramen noodles should be. Grabs the soup real well. Got extra noodles by the way and extra Pork Chasu- delicious! Tender and a great balance of flavor. Meat and fat. Well marinated. So so great! Overall, a great mouth watering experience. Will definitely come back. Cash only though!

Friendly staff. Good, comfort food. Affordable and pretty close to a lot of things around Rockefeller Center.
