Google
Excellent Japanese restaurant! We tried two sushi rolls and both were outstanding. The Best of Monterey roll—spicy crab, seared filet mignon, green onion, and spicy mayo—was a delicious surprise. The Buffalo Roll, a California roll topped with baked salmon, shrimp, and crab, was also excellent. The chicken katsu and chicken fried rice were great as well. Definitely looking forward to coming back to try more rolls.

Google
This is definitely a hidden gem in monterey. Its been my favorite sushi spot in the area. I bring my friends here!!! Its a quiet spot and never too crowded. There are so many tasty rolls and appetizers to choose from. My favorite roll is the sunset roll. So delicious!!!

Google
This place was absolutely amazing. The staff was so friendly and kind and welcoming. The food was delicious and creative would highly recommend the garlic edamame. The salad, the rolls anything you get on there? You're not gonna go wrong and the view in the atmosphere was just amazing.

Beautiful restaurant with the view. Enjoyed lunch. Staff is very professional and friendly. Prices are reasonable. Portions are very generous.

Google
I’m happy we found this place for dinner and left satisfied with the great food, ambience, and service. There was a short wait before being seated but the host was attentive and checked in with us to let us know we’d be seated soon. Our server was great and very attentive. The food was served promptly and it was delicious! They have beer on draft, fun cocktails, and a great view of the bay! We’ll be returning on future visits to this area.

My party of 4 was seated right away and our drinks came soon after. The food was very delicious and came out really fast. Sushi was great and I highly recommend.

Great overall experience and great tasting food. No reservations needed, but get their early! The ambiance is really scenic with awesome customer service! Take the family for your events and be amazed with happiness.

Google
Sapporo vibe is of cafeteria. Very noisy inside due to bad acoustics. Prices are high but you do get good food and nice portions. Our service was good and attentive. But... atmosphere is not good. This place needs to use table cloths and cloth napkins. If they cover the tablecloths with white butcher paper and put out some crayons for kids they do have to change the table cloth each time just the paper. What ever happened to using a table cloth ? When the cost of the meal is so high why not offer some small luxury to guest. And what's with the paper napkins? So cheap feeling. Place needs tablecloths and cloth napkins. Otherwise food is Good.

Yelp
We went to Sapporo this evening for a sushi fix and really enjoyed the food, and the views to the wharf. We ordered espresso martinis and tempura squid to start our evening off. Both were tasty. Our server was attentive and pleasant. We ordered two special rolls, the Seaside and the Hot Night. Both were fresh and well made. Very flavorful. We also ordered a sashimi dish called Mr. October: 5 slices of hamachi with jalapeño and sriracha in a ponzu sauce. Very yummy! This was a solid sushi experience as we continue to get to know the dining scene on the Monterey Peninsula. Sapporo has a large menu, so we will come back to try more fresh fish and some of their Asian dishes (not only Japanese, but Korean dishes as well).

Yelp
I rarely post Yelp reviews and I feel compelled to give Sapporo's a 5 star review because of Miguel the Bartender. Excellent service. He is a class act on how to get more customers and exhibit customer retention. For context, my fiancé and I have been here several times a few years ago and didn't have the best experience. However, we started going in more frequently as we had weekly softball games at one of the fields nearby. After the second or third time we went to the bar, Miguel knew our drink order and what we liked for dinner. He truly is a gem to this well established restaurant on the Monterey Peninsula. As locals, Miguel is the reason we'll be returning. Their amazing spicy garlic edamame and potstickers are the cherry on top. Go see Miguel, he is the best!

Yelp
I've visited Sapporo Sushi and Steakhouse almost every time I'm in Monterey, and it's become one of my go-to spots. I've always been seated promptly, and I especially enjoy sitting by the windows where you get a great view of the boats out on the dock which is a bit of a relaxing touch that adds to the experience. The service is fast, friendly, and attentive. The servers are great at answering questions and always offer solid recommendations, whether it's sushi, entrees, or drinks. Speaking of which, their cocktails are well-crafted and worth trying (my friend enjoyed the lychee martini as I recall). This place has a consistently pleasant and welcoming atmosphere, and it's clear they care about both food and hospitality. It's been a reliable favorite, and I plan to keep coming back whenever I'm in town.

Yelp
Very good Japanese steakhouse with an amazing menu of all types of different options. One of the best views of the Monterey Bay in the dinning room. We love this spot for lunch.

Yelp
What can I say? Places like this are always pretty solid. I ordered the chicken and steak and our chef did a great job. It's been a really long time since I've been here and forgot how good they make the fried rice. Although it's nothing crazy it truly hits the taste buds nicely. Although most people know the drill it's always nice to come here once in a while to keep the excitement up. Highly recommend this on a special occasion and you won't be disappointed

Yelp
Sapporo Sushi & Steakhouse is a restaurant that I personally cannot justify in recommending. Although the restaurant offers an excellent view of the bay that is the only positive aspect about this restaurant. On several occasions the handicapped elevator was not operational and this was an ongoing issue for a very long time. Also customer service is never consistent. Sometimes it can be fine and other times it can be downright rude and terrible. The food prepared at Sapporo is below mediocre and the Sushi is definitely the worst I have ever experienced from any restaurant. Management at Sapporo was a joke and they always have an excuse for everything which I find to be BS. As someone who is part Japanese and Hawaiian and has eaten Japanese cuisine and Asian cuisine all my life I will rate Sapporo Sushi & Steakhouse with 2 stars.

Yelp
Delicious sushi and steak. Located on the second floor with beautiful harbor views. Food came out really quick and everything was in perfect order. Plenty of parking however it is pay to park so keep that in mind.
google avatar

Yelp
An ideal spot after an ice skating date. Our server, Boni, was attentive and ensured prompt service throughout the evening. The pyramid sushi was visually impressive, though the flavor was average, while the Sunday Morning sushi was exceptionally fresh and melted in the mouth. Drinks from the bar were well-balanced, with the blueberry and raspberry margaritas standing out as particularly delicious.

Yelp
Perhaps this is a plea to the owner to please turn on the air conditioner to this place. It was so unpleasant to enjoy a great meal when you're eating in a sauna. I looked like a drench Tom Cruise in Top Gun after playing volleyball, so I was told. The sushi is decent and the spicy squid has good flavor so for that alone I give four stars all day everyday, just minus one star for the uncomfortable eating environment. I'll be back again and hope to give higher praise. Roger that Goose.

Yelp
Food was delicious Negative part.... -served my husbands food 10 mins before my food came out ( maybe even longer) -had to ask for his miso soup and a water refill ( he already was half way done with his entree) We came to have dinner together not eat a different times

Yelp
The show the hibachi chef put on was okay at best. Not very interactive or creative or fun, as other hibachi places may do it. The food was okay. Nothing amazing but it wasn't bad either.

Yelp
Food in photos below Service is ok, C rating at best. Ambiance they need to work on balancing noise level I don't drink no alcohol, my brother is not nice person he thinks I can't handle alcohol, but I handle it better than lot ppl. However, I don't think they have a drink I like so far. Service forgotten in terms: we never got straws or refills. Food was a lot better than most sushi places. If you are at a window seat, wear sunglasses + sun protection, or you be blinded the entire time during dinner. Refills are like necessity, hydrate ppl, or I have to state this, ask for pitcher because waitress has so many tables it made me think we could easily ordered a pitcher and refill ourselves. Bathroom didn't have towel paper jam. Photos don't have flash. Most of them are natural light. Video is of my father order. His food originally was Teriyaki Chicken bento however when he found out they drench in onions he had stop the order and get Pork Katsu, and it was good save. My dad has IBS. Shio said Pork Katsu is yummy. We gave him some to eat. He is happy. For restaurant to know, I was looking at fog coming in, and sailboat coming into harbor, I was also watching the seals in harbor, Last time I was by window, I go burned, I didn't bring sunblock. chin and forehead and some cheeks were pink when I got home. I don't blame ppl for it, cold towels do improve your slight burn. Saturday it was noisy, if I shouted really loud "Alabama" no one would heard it at my table. Today I just found out why my dad's food caused him gas, stomach upset on Sunday. Server really tried to stop seasoning from being on food or serving him. Pork Katsu has peppered breading, pork itself has no extra seasoning maybe its pounded and then salted. Sauce in question: sweet onions in mixture. Some of the potatoes were not cooked all the way. Very much like this recipe: https://drivemehungry.com/tonkatsu-pork-katsu/ I don't think there is a place that can do his customize options.

Yelp
Full view of Marina- take stairs up to restaurant (wheelchair elevator available). Great rolls, gotta try the mushroom soup.

Yelp
Came in with a group of people and loved the view of the docks. Super great service! Many food options. We got a few appetizers and sushi rolls to start with which were all delicious. We went for the dinner combinations and really enjoyed our meals. I will say it all came out super quick and at the same time. Staff was quick to pick up any of the empty plates and to refill drinks.

Yelp
Hi-ya! So are here and the line seemed long, but we got seated very fast at a table (for 2). Our host was very polite and nice, but once our server got to use things were a little delayed. The food came out a bit slow, we only ordered sushi, and rolls, and amaebi and desert, but yeah it was a little slow, and even when we finished we had to look and ask for our server to order desert and even longer to pay the bill. The food was ok, and the green tea desert was not sweet or just didn't have a lot of flavor. The ambience and view was really nice, but we left just not feeling the food was memorable for what we expected. Overall unfortunately not an amazing experience primarily because our server disappeared often and the desert didn't hit the spot.

Yelp
Stopped by Sapparo Sushi & Steakhouse for dinner recently, and it was a good experience. We showed up just before 6pm and were able to get seated right away. Food was good, I enjoyed the shrimp appetizer and the fried rice, the chicken was a bit bland but the sauce options helped! Overall, customer service was great and attentive, and there were multiple people celebrating birthdays, so it was a lively, enjoyable atmosphere. Pricing seemed fair and the location is convenient and parking was easy. I'd recommend checking out this restaurant if you're visiting Monterey for the day or a quick weekend getaway.

Yelp
Our first time at this restaurant. Our server was great, we had a wonderful meals and a few drinks while looking out over the water. We live about 3 hours away and often drive down for our favorite restaurant near by. But we had already ate at our favorite place and tried Sapporo to mix it up. Gave a 4 because we eat Sushi several times a week for the last decade and the portions of Niguri where smaller than normal. Ambiance, Service, Clean, Fast, Good Food.

Devin M.

Yelp
9.4/10! The sushi was incredibly fresh with a great variety to choose from. I especially loved the Tekka roll and the sashimi--so fresh and flavorful. Service was quick and efficient, and the ambiance was perfect. The chef was fantastic, and the atmosphere made it a great spot for birthdays or special occasions

Yelp
We recently celebrated my daughters birthday here. Our server (I forgot her name sadly) was very attentive and pleasant. At the end of our meal she came right away with candles and a lighter, some plates and utensils for the cake. Our food was delish! Everything that we ordered was excellent! We loved the sushi (Best of the best, seaside, dragon roll) especially that we came back today for more and I'm sure we will again soon.

Yelp
I had never been to a hibachi before so I was excited to check it out. We arrived with no reservation on a saturday and didn't have to wait too long as we were there a little earlier, maybe 20minute wait ( arrived around 5pm- it looked like a longer wait when we were leaving). We were seated at a table with a few other birthdays which was fun as we got to see the waiters sing happy birthday at the table (pretty sure every table had a birthday it seemed like- lots of celebrations and birthday songs sang across the room) The waiters were friendly- took our order quickly as we waited for the hibachi chef to arrive to the table. They have a lot of tables for the chefs to move around so you have to wait our turn when they are ready. We got the poki salad, starfish roll and the steak and scallops dinner. All bigger portions than we expected- ended up leaving with leftovers- the poki salad was really big with lots of fresh sashimi and lettuce, good chunky sized sushi roll also- nice flavors in both and the fish tasted fresh. The steak and scallops dinner was served by the hibachi chef at the table- great energy and he had us laughing with some of his food jokes- got the whole table involved with throwing food into your mouth (i missed it- but was good fun trying to catch it) Fried rice was very tasty- good steak and scallops also, the veggies maybe could have cooked a little longer they were a little crunchy. Overall good experience and left very full. Definitely a good place for a kids birthday party or a fun dinner experience with friends!

Yelp
Amazing food! Their lunch bento box it's loaded with food, great price; comes with salmon and your choice of chicken or steak, with a combo of tempura and gyoza. Great service on point. The atmosphere was a good vibe. Definitely would eat there again fosho

Yelp
Location was beautiful. The Best of the Best roll was okay, it didn't blow my socks off, but had flavor. Ordered the Sapporo lunch item B (steak and shrimp) for $20. The presentation was fun and the service was good. Steak was over cooked but the fried rice and shrimp was delicious.
google avatar

Yelp
Great food, amazing service, and overall awesome vibes. Best Hibachi experience ever :)

Yelp
Amazing Sushi I will def be back food was off the hook compliments to the Chef. Great customer service as well.

Lucy H.

Yelp
The sushi was okay, but the rice was sticky. We also ordered some fried food, and their chicken karaage was pretty good. The service was pretty good. The quality of the sushi didn't match how we paid. That's how we felt.

Yelp
Awesome seafood and steak with a great view. Ebi was my favorite as well as the seafood udon. Girls night out!!
google avatar

Yelp
Great Japanese steak house. Beautiful view of the bay. All the fun frills of a teppanyaki without the craziness. Little pricey but for location and quality of the food it is well worth it.

Yelp
Went for hibachi and it was a fun time with my friends! The food was really delicious and the hibachi chef was very entertaining and fun! He made our experience for hibachi really great! I love the ambiance of the restaurant. Had a great ocean view and overall, this establishment has great food, great service, and is a great location to celebrate with friends and family. The hamachi (yellow tail) nigiri was one of the best I've had!
google avatar

Yelp
Came in here for Mother's Day lunch at about 1pm before leaving Monterey. Got a table fairly quick. The service started off a little rough but went a lot better. For appetizer, we ordered Sauteed Asparagus with oyster sauce. It was very good. The Garlic Prawns Pastry Creams Chilis Wine Sauce over Rice was excellent. The prawns were good size and the sauce with the rice was great. We also got the Sapporo Love Boat 'A' which came with 9pcs Sashimi, 8pcs Nigiri, and a Tuna Roll. The quality of the fish wasn't good, tasted plain. I would come back, but not for sushi. I will try the Hibachi Grill, which there were a lot of people waiting. Also, i would get the Garlic Prawns again. The restaurant is upstairs with a nice view of the water.
google avatar

Yelp
The best dish of the night was the miso soup. The restaurant was very loud and we could not have a conversation while waiting for our meal. It was also challenging to order our food and talk to our server due to how loud it was. I would not recommend this place for a date night. I ordered the top shelf margarita and I could not taste the alcohol - it was very watered down. I would not recommend wasting your money on the alcohol drinks. The sushi itself was decent and creative. FYI: no all you can eat sushi - which made the bill very expensive.

Cat S.

Yelp
The waitress has extremely quick to take our plates away and give us the check while we were talking. Very welcoming at first but as soon as you pay they are quick to kick you out. Not a place for a slow dinner

Roxanne M.

Yelp
Sapporo is my favorite go-to value sushi spot overall on Monterey Peninsula. However, after a recent but substantial price increase/value decrease, I will still be a regular customer, but perhaps "not as regular" now. The food is delicious, the daytime wharf view is incredible, the service from Ellie and Iwon (spelling?) is excellent, and generous pay parking & accessibility lift is available. It would be appreciated if they had a "locals" discount for those of us who visit frequently year-round. It is still very good, just not the same go-to bang for your buck as before.
google avatar

Joy M.

Yelp
This review is long overdue!! I ended catching a gnarly sickness while prego and wasn't able to post a review until way later. This place has such a stellar view of the ocean in Monterey! We went on a rainy day, but even still it was such a cool experience seeing the boats and ocean nearby. Our servers were super great and kept coming around to check on the table. The portions were huge for the cost, and the lunch specials were a steal! My mouth is still watering for the teriyaki steak. I highly recommend coming on Saturday for a relaxing afternoon. On top of it all, they have some great lunch specials. I highly recommend this spot
google avatar

Andrea T.

Yelp
Used to be a regular here, and decided to stop by for lunch with my sister before running errands around town. Heather was our server, she's good as always! The food was delicious, the drinks were on point, and the service was great. It wasn't too busy, but I appreciated seeing plenty of staff runners, managers, and extra help making sure everything ran smoothly. Always a solid experience here.
google avatar

Michelle d.

Yelp
Parking is easy. Pay to park at kiosk or phone app. Got the Sexy girl roll. One of the fish items either the tuna or the salmon or fish eggs on it, had a fishy taste. I don't care for a fishy taste. Ambiance is great. The restaurant is upstairs. The view of the marina is beautiful. The service was friendly but lazy. I hate when servers decide they are going to serve and remove all plates from one end of a table of 3 or more people. They reach over people's plates and lean over. Diners have to raise their arms up to receive plates or deliver them up to the server to be removed. That is not good table service.
google avatar

Martin A.

Yelp
First time here and we had the traditional dinner, you know? Sitting around the table, and having the meal prepared for you. The place was busy, they don't take reservations I found out the hard way, as we were invited here. The food was very good. The fried rice was tasty, although when they were taking our order, we asked about the fried rice, the woman just said it costs extra. Didn't ask if we wanted it, we had to ask another person about it, and he made sure our party all got fried rice. We got a nice mix of vegetables, zucchini, brócoli, carrots, mushrooms and onions , which was a nice change from the other place we go to. Sapporo Also has a nice change of menu than what we're are used to at Benni's place. Steak and lobster for under $60, I'll take it! The lobster tails were bigger than I expected. Over all, we will come back again. It was worth the 45 minute wait.
google avatar

Yelp
Great food, location and service!!! I would recommend this place to any friend. The sushi was bomb and the drinks were fun!
google avatar

Yelp
I was taken here by my wife, and I will admit this is not a place I would go to. She ordered a dish with rice on the bottom of a large bowl topped with a salad, then some raw fish of some type. She really enjoyed the food and ate damn near all of it. She also ordered a grilled calamari appetizer. The squid was very good and tender, and it was served with 2 sauces. I ordered wings, yea wings, damn, I did not want to be here. But the wings were OK, just OK, no more, no less. Service was prompt and the server was paying attention. We had refills, etc. The view from the dining room to the left as you enter is very nice. The restaurant was very clean and the restrooms very clean too. This place is certainly "not my cup of tea" but my Asian wife very much enjoyed it. Maybe we try again next trip to Monterey and go to the dining room to the right where they cook the food at the table. I wonder if they have Wagu beef?
google avatar

Damien R.

Yelp
UPDATE: floor and blinds remodel. Looks real nicWhere to start? This is the best sushi in the area bar none. I would say that it comes off very touristy, but the proof is "in the pudding"! I'm guessing most locals see this in the heart of the beautiful wharf and think that the best quality food can not be had. They are 100% wrong, and I think that should be the focus. Hands down great views and structure. However, we are here to eat!! Bar: full bar with tasty drinks
google avatar

Kenzie T.

Yelp
I can't wait to come back here! The food was so delicious we are still thinking about it today. This gives you the full hibachi experience + you can order sushi. They view is completely unmatched! The service was great, everyone was kind and quick with their service. The steak was very tender so highly recommend trying the filet!
google avatar

Maricarmen C.

Yelp
I love this place! I have been here multiple times and always enjoy the food and the service. I usually do hibachi which tends to come with a pretty lengthy wait time, but it's definitely worth it! I usually get their edamame, fried rice, and shrimp. You also get miso soup and a salad with your meal. There is plenty of parking which is free after 8pm. Most recently, we were able to join the waitlist at the restaurant and receive a text when our table was ready. It is a great restaurant when dining in big groups or pairs. It is also great for birthdays or other special occasions. Definitely recommend.
google avatar

Vanpoppelen R.

Yelp
Great sushi, minor flaws. The fish was fresh and flavorful. The rice was slightly overcooked. Still, a very solid sushi restaurant!
google avatar

Tareq B.

Yelp
This place is an excellent spot to celebrate birthdays and special occasions. While the restaurant is nice and clean the chairs are a bit worn out. At least the one I sat on was wobbling which got me nervous about breaking. The food is fresh and made in front of you if you want teppanyaki grill. The soup served was very bland , Luke warm and below average. I would have loved to be served a Miso soup instead of chicken broth with some crispy panko flakes that went soggy with a very tasteless mushroom. The salad was fresh but the dressing was thousand island instead of toasted sesame. The prices are a bit high but not outrageous. We really enjoyed the festive atmosphere.
google avatar

Yelp
Fantastic Sushi. Great service, and very friendly staff with a fantastic view. Highly recommend the seaside roll.

Yelp
I've lived here my entire life and finally decided to try this place out with my wife. Long story short, we still haven't tried it because the hostess was extremely rude and visibly irritated by having to do their job. After rolling their eyes and finally "greeting" us, they sat us down at a table that was next to empty strollers? It was weird. Waited over 15 minutes and server never showed up so we walked out and will not be going back. Hostess and the manager just stared at us as we walked by them to leave, no acknowledgment, didn't even bother to ask what was wrong. 1 star feels way too gracious after that experience but can't rate any lower..

Z Z.

Yelp
I visited this restaurant with my psychiatric service dog. I was wrongly asked for documentation and told that it was illegal to hold my service dog, which violates ADA law. Trained service animals are legally protected and allowed in public places, including restaurants, even if they are held, as long as they are under control and performing their tasks. I hope the staff can receive training to prevent discrimination against people with disabilities in the future.
google avatar

Skarleth K.

Yelp
I was there for lunch. I did not do the tepanyaki tables. Maybe that was my mistake. I found my steak to be okay. Lacked flavor. I've been to Benihana many times and love it but this didn't compare. It's just ok. I thought it was a nice restaurant just maybe I hyped it up too much in my head.

Timothy C.

Yelp
As a Japanese restaurant by the sea, the quality of nigiri and sashimi are not up to par. The Uni tastes extremely fishy, and the Hokkigai is not fresh. The Garlic Prawns tasted pretty good and the cream steak was tasty, but it was served well-done when a medium-rare was asked for. Many items on the menu lacked flavor and required the addition of an abundance of condiments for sufficient taste. The waiter did constant check-ins but was sometimes careless and was not really attentive to details. The view was good, looking out to the pier.

Yelp
Food is not too impressive. This place is nice for the experience once in a while or maybe just once. Staff is great though and service is too. The views are nice in there too.
