So...SapSap. We waited a bit before trying this deliciously different Laotian spin with American flair BBQ. We knew they had been having pop-ups for a while and had only recently acquired this space that was once a house and then a luncheon Italian restaurant. We were patient. We knew there would be kinks to work out. They did and have, sans the fact it is still working out a sit down area, never mind that. Go there for take-out, eat at home and marvel at all that SapSap has to offer. The Bahn Mi Fried Chicken sandwich can easily be split for two and is certainly worth every single scrumptious, crispy, juicy, tangy, slightly spicy bite. The bun held up to a 25 minute journey back home and the chicken breading was still crispy. I loved, loved the jerky. Honestly, it shouldn't be called jerky. It was chewy, yet not even close to being dehydrated straps. It retained its beef flavor well and held up the sweet n' tangy honey-like coating. I also highly recommend the brisket fried rice. Not at all the conventional "Cantonese American" fried rice we are accustomed to getting. Good sized chunks of brisket in rice that isn't heavily laden with umami and just a hint of sweet and smokey. Mama's egg rolls were good and served as a good carrier for the egg roll sauce in all it's tangy glory. I really got the Lemongrass in the Sai Oua (laotian) sausage and word to the wise, the Jeow Sum dipping sauce is no joke spicy hot! So use sparingly but definitely adds flavor and heat! There were absolutely no problems ordering on their website and it was ready exactly as predicted, 30 minutes later. The staff were friendly and thankful and we had no problems parking or getting in and out! I cannot wait to see SapSap grow and I definitely look forward to "dining in" in the future!
