Saraga Is the International Grocery Store of My Dreams | Bon Appétit

"A massive international supermarket on the outskirts of Columbus, Ohio, housed in a former Toys “R” Us, this megastore was founded by two Korean brothers who set out to create one large grocery that serves many immigrant communities. After launching locations in Bloomington and Indianapolis (a 62,000-square-foot store opened in 2005), the Columbus branch opened in 2012 and feels intentionally designed to encourage long, joyful detours: expansive aisles, a distant checkout, space to linger near the entrance, and a perimeter lined with food stalls. Shoppers find a dizzying, cross-cultural selection—parathas appearing in Malaysian and Caribbean sections, frozen-aisle curiosities like North African-style merguez, and grocery terms preserved in immigrant English (for example, beanies labeled “monkey caps” and an aisle cheekily marked “American food”). Beyond groceries, the store functions as a community hub—hosting cellphone shops, eyebrow-threading services, a multilingual bulletin board, and other amenities that help newly arrived residents navigate life in the U.S.—and it has become a familiar, comforting public space for Columbus’s many immigrant groups." - ByZahir Janmohamed

See my pictures, I did find my Mangoes 🥭 leaves instead of ordering off of Amazon. The store had a lot Of food for all cultures. They have lots of meat from 🦞 seafood 🍣 🍤 fresh, 🥩 beef🐮🐄, pork🐖🥓🐷chicken 🍗 & duck 🦆 what I saw. They even have a police 👮🏾‍♂️ on duty! The store has lots of customers. They had cashiers to check you out. Didn’t see a self check out. The store has a lot of other vendors. I’ll list in my next post too many pictures!🇯🇲🌍🇿🇦🇨🇫🇨🇳🥡🥢🥠🌮🇲🇽🌯🫔italy🇮🇹🍕🍝

I couldn’t believe how many great options are here, from produce, to fresh and frozen fish options, freshly butchered meats and packaged goods with isles of worldly specific goods. If you’re trying out new recipes like I am and you need ingredients you can’t find at your local grocery store this place probably has it. And they have a quirky selection with a bakery, smoothie/coffee bar, and other things it’s a great place to visit. I got rice noodles and Vietnamese spring roll wraps and made these. I can’t wait to go back and see what else I need to make something new.

Love this store has a great international selection of a variety of things. Plus a great Mexican bakery very fresh. I also love the authentic Boba tea Cafe next to it. The young lady is very patient and kind. The teas taste great. Tasty flavors. Also a taste of Jamaica is there as well. Great brown stew chicken.

I am so impressed with Saraga International! They have the freshest sardines and crabs I've ever seen. The seafood selection is amazing! But what really blew me away was the huge veggie section. They have so many unique and fresh veggies to choose from. I've never seen anything like it! Definitely my new go-to grocery store!

Google
they have a food court that has Napoleon, Taqueria Mexican(DELICIOUS), Jamaican ,African and a Guadalajara bakery. each aisle the grocery store has a different country..it a little pricey. Not sure if I would trust the meats. But the shelves stables thing I would buy. A lot of different kitchen items that are useful. I enjoy looking at all the different items. Very interesting!!!

The store is okay. Half of the time when I buy ice cream, they are melted and refrozen. When items are on sale, it is because expiration date is within a month. Other than that, pretty good store.

Newer store location. Looks like it took over an old département store in a strip mall. Plenty of parking! Handicap accessible parking and entrance. Restrooms located very back left of store from entrance/exit doors. I've forgotten to take pics inside store, so took pics of a few of many items, when i got home. Prepared fish head soup (salmon) with a large variety of fresh veggies and herbs (all from Saraga's). The soup was exquisite! Unfortunately, the female blue crabs, that were already uncovered when purchased at the counter over ice, were not good to eat and threw them ALL out. Had a small taste sampling of 3 different ones, after the first was bad, its like they were old or expired. If it tastes off putting, throw them out. You could get food poisoning if consuming expired seafood! Huge establishment, clean for the most part. Lots of produce to choose from. Isles are marked by country, which makes it nice and convenient. Live fish offered. Good variety of fresh fish at this location. Meat counter looks delicious as well. Meat & Seafood depts will cut to order. There are a few different ethnic restaurants along the left wall and back wall of building. There are other vendors on premises as well, selling cell phones, clothing, etc. If you are looking for pots and pans, they have them too, and of all sizes! Lots of non-perishable items! Some of the staff could use some friendliness training 🙄, but overall, we really enjoyed grocery shopping here 😁. I recommend this Saraga location to everyone. Enjoy & Bon appetite! Godspeed everyone !

I do enjoy this place because of the international selection and uniqueness. Has a great selection. Only thing negative I can say the cashiers I have encountered are not personable nor friendly. Recommended

Yelp
I'm a big fan of the original Saraga on Morse Road because of their large selection of produce - there seems to always be something new to try when I stop in, so I'm fluffin elated for this third location ON THE EAST SIDE! I will say I feel this location doesn't have as big a selection in meat/seafood/poultry and dry foods ethnicity-wise as the main Saraga, but I'm hopeful this will change in due time. There are a few food stalls stationed around the perimeter inside - a bakery, bubble tea, Mexican, and Caribbean just to name a few. And, this Saraga has a very solid produce section to highlight! There's plenty of parking, since this space use to house a Kohl's, which means there's always going to be abundant parking wherever a Kohl's is concerned.

Yelp
I like shopping at the Sarangas, but the black woman at the cashier spot was unsavory. I am a black woman who accidentally dropped something made of glass, she then get a black cop in the S. Hamilton store to come. I just wanted her to get the glass from the ground and get another, I did get another but I have to say it left the dumb expression on my face. Black people go in there and SHOP, I don't think I will go back there again. If Sarangas as a whole thinks black people are thieves and throws about food, then I'm not coming back. I will give the one on Morse street a chance, but if anything happens at their store, I'm going to complain to the upper management and not go back.

Yelp
New location on S. Hamilton. We are a longtime customer of the Morse Road location and love visiting. Hamilton is bigger and has more offerings; cambio, soon a pharmacy, food court, unique small businesses in a mall atmosphere, and just a larger space in general for more of everything. Maybe this will be a catalyst to renew the Eastland area.

Yelp
Second time here. There's so many different frozen foods and shelve items. The produce section is amazing and if you want any kind of fish they have it fresh, frozen and canned! Loads of frozen items and bagged and canned items from many regions of the World. The only restaurant opened when I was there was a African/Jamaican restaurant. I ordered a side of steamed cabbage and a spicy beef patty to go. The cabbage was flavorful with spices which had a bit of "heat". The spicy beef patty reminded me of a huge empanada. It was spicy and delicious! Prices are very reasonable!

Yelp
So this is not strictly a restaurant. There are several good stalls in the back, with limited seating. A variety of cuisines are available but these vary from time to time. This location also has housewares, clothing, electronics, and groceries. Stop in and "window shop" while gnoshing on food you might not have had in a long time.

Yelp
I freaking love this store.it has open my eye and belly to way food options. Love trying new stuff there. The little restaurant they have in the is ok. The owners are nice when ordering from them. The set up is wearhouse style which is cool. The only issue is there is language barriers, and employees not able to answer your questions.

Yelp
The variety and quality of the food makes up for anything else. Better lighting and cleaner isles would help. Otherwise I would give 5 stars

Yelp
Over a year now still shopping here because now it's the only store close bye where I can get fresh vegetables and fruit. Iceburg lettuce is way to expensive and just about everything is priced to high. I just avoid buying those products I can purchase for way less at regular stores. Being able to communicate with store employees is way better and the majority of the goods show the prices now. The one time I finally got the nerve to try and order a meal at the Hispanic restaurant bye pointing at the menu, I felt instant attitude from the woman taking the order, I'm guessing she doesn't speak English or they only want to deal with Spanish speaking people only. My meal came to $18. I love Hispanic cooking. When I got home all set to eat a delicious meal, the beef was burnt and bone dry. I will not ever go there again. I thought international meant everyone could shop there. I should have just walked away instead of trying to order. Now I just go in find what I need and try not to ask for items I can't find, that way nobody feels uncomfortable if they don't speak english and stay away from ordering from certain food stalls.

Yelp
Very clean and much less busy than the Morse road store. This place is HUGE and has an insane variety of really interesting things! Highly recommend a shopping trip here. A lot of ingredients you see in cooking shows but never see at the supermarket can be found here

Yelp
Great store multiple ethnic employees and very knowledgeable staff. As an American born citizen with just Kroger, giant eagle, Trader Joe's and a few other chains it's nice having an international option with brands you've never seen from all over the world, very very cool.

Yelp
Their computer system is flawed. I made some purchases & it seemed too high. I paid & went to my car & checked the receipt. Their was almost $70 in meat I hadn't purchased so I took all my groceries back in. There was no manager in the store so I waited until one came. They looked at cameras & determined I hadn't bought the meat. Said sorry, our computer made a random entry. Refunded the meat & gave me a $10 gift card for my trouble. Did more shopping & came home a couple of hours later only to discover there was a frozen item on there I hadn't purchased. Very annoying! I never had this problem at the Morse Rd store, maybe I'll just shop there
