"But a number of factors, including a backlog of liquor licenses waiting for approval from the State Liquor Authority and rising rent costs, convinced him to move the restaurant across the street into his short-lived vegan Filipino restaurant, Saramsam, which opened in September 2020 and closed last fall." - Bao Ong

"The East Village is gaining a new vegan Filipino spot this week in Saramsam, the latest project from prolific restaurateur Ravi DeRossi. The restaurant features vegan versions of classic Filipino dishes, including lumpia stuffed with faux meat and adobo with roasted mushrooms. The menu includes a la carte options and a $50 per person tasting menu served as a Kamayan-style communal meal. Executive chef Raj Abat, who formerly led the kitchen at Night Music, is at the helm. Saramsam will be open for outdoor dining from Wednesday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m. Indoor dining will begin on September 30." - Erika Adams

Night Music is an exotic vegetable fusion restaurant and sister bar to Ladybird located right next door. The lively atmosphere and unique menu is a perfect cohesion. The Menu is 100% vegan and features flamboyant tropical cocktails, and an all-natural wine list. Food***** Vegan food does not get much more delicious than this. We got the crispy eggplant lasagna with three cheeses and tomato coconut curry and the naan with garlic butter. The crispy eggplant lasagna was literally heaven on earth--every flavor came through and my tastebuds exploded with delectation! You will be knocked out by the foods they have to offer. Even the naan bread and the dipping sauces it came with was remarkable. Service**** The waitress was a delight--quicky, informative, and willing to accommodate our needs. The restaurant was pretty busy and she did a good job of attending to us and everyone else. Atmosphere***** This gets five stars because the atmosphere is the perfect combination of what all us NY'ers want but anyone in general wants (most likely)--nice dim lighting, comfortable cushioned chairs spaced appropriately away from other tables, candles on the table, incredible smells, and popular 80s music (the night we were there). I have never felt so good with an atmosphere in NYC yet! Price$$ Moderately priced but you get what you pay for. This is top notch and one of NYC's trendiest vegan restaurants right now!

I really loved this place. I’ve always wanted to do kamayan for a while and I’m glad they place had it. I enjoyed the experience. My favorite was their version of adobo and kare kare. I like the kininirog and the pancit canton too. There was definitely more than enough food. I just wish I saved room for dessert. Overall, service was good. Every time the server came with a dish, we got excited. We had the window seat and got a view of the bar area and outside. There was outdoor seating, but we preferred eating indoor. I was going to take my friends here today, but I’m sad to see that they’re temporarily closed. I can’t wait to try this again.

This spot is a must. We went on a Friday night and it was a great experience. Loved the vibe. Our server was awesome and all the food was delicious, definitely recommend the mushroom buns!

Me and my husband were hesitant about going to a vegan place as we both love meat. I'm so happy we went here! The food was amazing!!!! It was abundant, flavorful without being overwhelming, and simply one of the best meals we've ever had in NYC. The cocktails were delicious too! The staff was so nice to us, even though the place was packed. I could not recommend this place more!!!!! Looking forward to our next visit!

Excellent ingredients and a flavorful menu. This was my first experience with Filipino food and both I and my non-veg friends very much enjoyed our meal! The service was outstanding - our server even overheard me commenting on how much I like microgreens and came back with an entire bowl to sprinkle on top of our feast!

I cannot say enough great things about this restaurant! First of all, our server (and every other staff member that helped us) was amazing and made the entire experience that much better. And the food! AMAZING. Literally loved everything single thing we tried. Excellent wine options! The music they had playing was icing on the cake. We left so happy and full. Can’t wait to go back! 100000% recommend.
