I’ve been a regular here, and while the food was good, I’ve definitely had better-tasting meals at this location before. It felt a bit off, I suspect there might be a new cook in the kitchen. • The Benne Dosa and Filter Coffee were absolute standouts—10/10 for both! • Customer service could have been better. Despite there being only two customers, we had to wait a while for someone to check in on us for reorder or water refill. Once the order was placed, the servers were polite and the food arrived very quickly. • Great atmosphere and very well-maintained. A Note on the Bill: One thing that frustrated me was the billing, the tip is calculated after taxes rather than on the cost of the food and service alone. It’s a small detail that makes a difference. It’s a solid spot for the South Indian dishes.

I recently visited Saravanaa Bhavan in Irving, Texas for breakfast, and it turned out to be an excellent experience that I would love to try again. The restaurant delivered authentic South Indian flavors that instantly made me feel at home. Among all the items I tried, the idli was the real standout. Soft, fluffy, and perfectly steamed, it paired beautifully with the variety of chutneys and sambar. Every bite was light yet satisfying, and it truly captured the essence of a traditional South Indian breakfast. The variety of dishes added to the joy of the meal. The crispy dosa was flavorful and had the perfect balance of texture and taste. The onion rava dosa was especially enjoyable with its crunchy bite and tangy chutneys. The poori with potato masala was warm and comforting, while the medu vada was crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Each dish came with fresh chutneys – coconut, mint, and tomato – and a hearty sambar that tied everything together. The service was quick, and the food arrived hot, maintaining freshness throughout. Overall, Saravanaa Bhavan offered a wholesome, authentic, and satisfying breakfast experience. I’ll definitely be returning soon, especially for the delicious idlis.🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

Google
I came here for lunch today and had the best dosa I’ve had in the US, on par with the dosa spots in Bangalore. This was not the case during my last visit a few months ago when the food was mediocre. There must be a new cook now because the idly vada and benne dosa I had were outstanding. Plus additional new chutneys.

Google
We had luch during our Dallas visit. Thali meals was great. Dosa presentation and taste was good. Battura was looking good but was oily

Google
Saravana Bhavan has been an all time favorite of people who like Indian vegetarian food. The chain has made its presence known all over the world. The Irving location was pretty crowded for a Sunday afternoon. We ordered some food which was delivered promptly and the quality was pretty good. They are not super expensive. If you are looking for casual indian vegetarian food, I recommend this place.

Google
I recently visited Saravana Bhavan and had an overall great experience that left me craving more of their South Indian delicacies. The Idli, Vada Combo was a fantastic choice, served with a nice sambar and different chutneys. The Rava Dosa was perfectly crispy with a golden-brown texture, and the spicing was just right—not overpowering, but flavorful enough to leave an impression. The Chole Bhature was really good, with the gravy being rich and satisfying, perfectly complementing the fluffy, golden bhature. The Matar Mushroom with Butter Naan was another highlight. The matar mushroom had a great combination of chewy mushrooms and peas in a rich, aromatic gravy. You also get a choice of pairing it with naan, butter naan, chapati, or rice. For those who are fans of South Indian coffee, their Filter Coffee is a must-try—especially if you’re craving that perfect, strong, and flavorful brew. The ambiance of the restaurant was warm and casual, making it ideal for family meals or casual dining with friends. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the food came out quickly despite the crowd.

Google
Always a go-to spot for vegetarian food. The vada, tiffin combo, and onion rava dosa all tasted good. It did take a long time to get the rava dosa, but other than that, no major complaints

Google
We love the authentic taste of "Thali" served at Saravana Bhavan restaurants. We have tried in Chennai, NJ, CA and TX. Here the food is good but not as authentic. Otherwise, the staff, service, and the ambience is good. would like to try the other items, next time.

Yelp
Solid South Indian food. Usually come here for the thali, poori/channa, or coffee. Very few places make filter coffee like Saravana Bhavan. Try not to go when it's busy like a holiday or weekend lunch/dinner. Usually early in the morning or just before lunch will be a quick in and out experience. For filter coffee they offer options with sugar and without sugar. Let them put the sugar in the coffee. It just tastes much better when they mix it in. The foods not bad either. But the coffee is great!
google avatar

Khoa N.

Yelp
Ok, this place wasn't very good... Indian food never lacks on flavoring and spices but this place did just that. The items in the Thali Meal was kinda "watery"... and bland. The one positive thing is they do give you A LOT of rice so if you're hungry, you will leave satisfied. I think this is a cultural thing but they also serve room temperature water... which is NOT my thing at all!

Yelp
A good place to go to for South Indian cuisine, with affordable pricing. But the service and food delivery is really bad. The service is poor at the Irving branch and need to call and wait for a minimum of 5 minutes to order. The service can be improved.
google avatar

Saba M.

Yelp
Their dosas are very good. Mango lassis are the best and idly is perfect. Waiters are all nice and have good customer service. I'd recommend coming earlier in the day on weekends as they can get seriously busy, fast.
google avatar

Soumya C.

Yelp
Staffs are not welcoming ... food is less than average ... spoiling the brand name. Every curry in thali was tasting the same ... rice was like plastic.

Jinat A.

Yelp
Had idly and dosa. Was served immediately so I think they were prepared beforehand. So they got cold. Taste was okay.

M A.

Yelp
If there was a choice I wouldn't give even one star- Poor service Wrong billing One of the worst dosas I've ever had and even chutneys -the sesame (til ki chutney) tasted just like ready made store bought tahini sauce None of the chutneys not Sambhar was good Idlis ordered were served with Sambhar over, idlis soaked in Sambhar were soggy when it was supposed to be served Sambhar separately on the side in a bowl And ppl or kids eating can eat dipping in Sambhar or just plain. Overall not worth time and hard earned money
google avatar

Shirin L.

Yelp
This place is really good for their South Indian dishes. We tried a few different things from their plain uttapam, veg uttapam, masala dosa, mysore masala dosa, idli, mysore bonda, and coffee. Everything was excellent! They were quick in taking our orders and bringing out the food. They definitely need to do a better job of keeping their restrooms clean since it is a family friendly restaurant and there were quite a few kids there. The restaurant, however, is quite clean.

Yelp
I love visiting Dallas exclusively bc of all the amazing Indian and Mediterranean food. Saravanaa is a well oiled machine and we were in and out if there in 20 mins once seated. Food came out almost immediately and was delish as always. It's always busy but they move fast so give it a shot!
google avatar

Pari P.

Yelp
Great food and even better sambhar. They are not stingy with giving more sambhar or chutney like other South Indian restaurants. Their chole bhature is a must try!!
google avatar

Syeda H.

Yelp
Came here on a busy Sunday, but we were quickly seated. My friend and I ordered the cheese masala dosa and the thali of the day. The dosa was tasty and made well, but the chutneys accompanying it didn't have much flavor. I'm the thali, I enjoyed the desert a lot. The remaining items were simple and good dishes. Overall the food and service were just ok. I don't think I'd come back for a second visit.

Bill E.

Yelp
Authentic South Indian cuisine. We look forward to eating here each time we visit Dallas. Friendly fast service. We each had a Masala Dosa, and shared Aloo Gobi with Butter Naan, plus an order of Vegetable Biryani. Delicious.
google avatar

Raj B.

Yelp
Came with high anticipation of good food but I didn't really like the kothu parotta although the idli/vada and masala dosa were decent. The service was quick and place was clean.
google avatar

Holly Z.

Yelp
AMAZING. Heard so many good things about this place and it definitely exceeded my expectations. This was my first time trying dosa and I loved it! So light and airy, and the masala was so good! The serving size was also sufficiently large, and for less than $10! Very authentic as well. Would definitely return for more!
google avatar

Saniya H.

Yelp
When we walked in, the place was jam packed and we got a bit worried thinking we may have to wait a while but we got our table not too long after we got there. We sat a bit too close to other people but once the food got there it was ok. Love their food but hate the crowds. I'll be going back but just maybe at less busy times.
google avatar

Simon L.

Yelp
This is the real deal. From the spacing, the chairs the metal, serving dishes. Invoking Upscale Madurai Restaurant. Service was fast and smiles all around. The tea and coffee are exactly what you would get in Tamil Nadu. All of the staples were precise and the size and crispness of the Dosa was the best I have ever seen Thali was impeccable and generous. This is not the best South Indian food in Dallas, Not the best in the USA but the best I have had in 15 countries!!. 3 stars is a joke ( maybe people who don't understand the genre. ). Run don't walk
google avatar

Rogin G.

Yelp
Saravanaa Bhavan is a vegetarian lovers paradise! They have a premium selection and extensive variety of dishes. The ample portions will leave you feeling full and satisfied. Everything our group had was delicious! If you only try 1 or 2 things get the Paneer Butter Cheese Masala Dosa & Channa Batura. Trust me you won't regret it. Whether you're a carnivore or vegetarian, I would definitely recommend you try this spot if you're in the area.

Yelp
A southern indian food restaurant and authentic food. We have been in the restaurant and ordered takeout from this place multiple times. The restaurant boasts a variety of Utthapams , Dosas and combo dishes if you are in mood of multiple choices which usually your taste buds will demand for . Me and my family favorites are Curd rice(Bagalabhath),Ghee Pongal, Milagaipodi dosa, Plain Dosa and Masala Dosa. My all time favorite is Mini Ghee idli and ghee pongal. These are my go to food that brings me joy and happiness, The restaurant has a clean and happy ambiance and we have had multiple small parties and the team delivers great food and faster service all the time!! IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR AN INDIAN VEGETARIAN EXPERIENCE THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST PLACES IN TOWN!

Mukesh P.

Yelp
I ordered crispy onions Rava dosa, it was one of the worst Rava dosa, taste like reg dosa, service was good,
google avatar

Yelp
Nice food, excellent services, ambiance can be improved Ambience is ok **************

Yelp
Love this place, the dosa's are great and you get an assortment of chutneys!! Stays busy and has a great India vibe

Yelp
I have dined at this restaurant several times and have never had complaints about the taste of their food. It has remained consistent for the most part. For the first time, we did a delivery order and it turned out to be very disappointing. Not sure if this is because of the impact of Covid and not having the right employees preparing the food, the order was not to the standards of the chain. The famous Saravana Bhavan Sambar is a signature dish and something this restaurant is famous for. The order yesterday was nowhere close to the original flavor. One of the chutneys was spoilt and tasted funny. Overall, a very bad experience. I hope the restaurant bounces back in employing the right kitchen staff and continues to maintain the authentic flavor that has been celebrated for decades. Covid has had such a negative impact on so many businesses and I hope local businesses are able to recover soon.

Dave K.

Yelp
Mysore masala was like pappad. Sambhar was a disgrace. It was just thick pasty lentils. Disappointed with the quality.

Sai S.

Yelp
I've gone to Saravanaa for years and have grown up with this place, but I have to say I've been disappointed lately. While the food is still good and the staff is very very nice, it's obvious that the management is trying to cut costs in every area possible. For any side dish, we have to ask specifically for it (ex chutney) because it's no longer given with the dishes. We don't even get forks anymore unless we specifically ask. Things like this are small and not the biggest deal, but sometimes it's just frustrating to have to keep asking - especially when the staff is already overwhelmed on busy days.
google avatar

MM S.

Yelp
Recommend this for the food and ambiance. Service is okay, restaurant management can be rude towards paying customers. Low grade for poor hospitality otherwise food is good. Must try once
google avatar

Israel G.

Yelp
Be prepared for a spicy, authentic, exquisite experience. Save on air travel and leave your Indian visa at home. You can travel to India by ordering your favorite South Indian cuisine right here at Saravaana Bhavan. I ordered the Thali which is served all day here. The Thali is served with a changing assortment of menu items with rice in the middle, little dishes of different selections in tiffin dishes, and your choice of a puri or a chapati. They will refill your little dishes of the Thali if you ask. Rasam, Sambar, Vegetable Koorma to name a few.. You can also get amazing dosas here. And vada. So much more!!! You can't go wrong here. Friendly service, clean updated restrooms, affordable prices, and real South Indian dishes all combine here at SV. With locations all around the world, you can travel without a passport when you walk through these doors and order from their menu!
google avatar

Chandan K.

Yelp
The service is still horrible, we ordered two rava dosas while people who came much after us got their orders first and even after 35 minutes we have not seen our dosas. The table next to us did not even get any attention but then he talked to manager and they got all their stuff within minutes. We spoke to server multiple times but no luck. I'm going to continue to add review for every visit now and see if there is any improvement. If it was not for taste we would never come here.

Patrick H.

Yelp
South Indian cuisine is known for its vibrant flavors; i.e. dosas (Indian crepe), idlis, and sambar, often served with spicy chutneys and tangy rasam. Sarvana Bhavan is a must try for those wanting to explore these flavors. We tried Rava and Paneer dosa and both were great! Just wish they shredded paneer instead of cubes. Then we had the hot gulab jamuns with traditional filtered coffee. It was like the warm soul food as we are transitioning into fall season. All the chutneys were yuuummyy! Perfect place for gluten free and vegan folks. Service was really good and the place was clean.
google avatar

Sandeep D.

Yelp
Just average. My Dosa was not bad actually, but just like other South Indian restaurants - this one suffers the same issue, bad chutneys and sambar. You can tell it's just not fresh. For a brand as old and roots from Chennai, i don't know why simple things like idli and vada are not like what you get in India. Idlis are always so hard and rubbery, and vadas are mostly wet inside or over fried outside.... What I liked with this place - is the service and staff.
google avatar

Naveen K.

Yelp
I change my review from 2 stars to 4 stars today. Been to saravana bhavan with my wife today for lunch & ordered for idly Sambar and a plate of parota. Taste was as usual at it's best. Loved the crispy texture of the parota, Perfect broil & cooked with right amount of oil. Staff was attentive, friendly and service was also fast. Total rip off!!!! Ordered for idly and asked if they were serving karam podi idly. The serving lady got confused & did not understand and offered milagai karam podi on the side instead. But never told it was extra. Just now noticed the bill. They charged 3$ just for some red chillie syrup.... Looks like the standards are flushed and saravan bhavan is looking ways to rip off customer's pocket. For 2 plates of idly I was charged $16.22!!! That's like too much greedy!!! Quality & quality is not top notch either. Its just normal compared to other in Irving serving south Indian breakfast. This is unacceptable for the management not to properly train their staff. Totally displeased with the visit!! Traveled 10 miles to get ripped off!! Lost impression on saravana bhavan!! Now Saravana bhavan dips down to the bottom in my list of preferred restaurants. I would never suggest saravan bhavan.
google avatar

Andrea B.

Yelp
What a fun experience. First time here and it was delicious and fast even on a very busy Saturday afternoon. Had the dosa and Thali and everything was great. Also had the milk tea and mango lassi and both went really well with the meals. First time trying these dishes but not Indian food and I am always so surprised to continue to taste new spices I've never tried before depending on the region of cooks, I assume. Delicious and fresh!

Yelp
Food is loosing it's quality & taste from each visit. Customer service is the worst and they very rude to the customers. They charge extra for the chutney's and where as it's free else where.

Joe K.

Yelp
Price has gone off the charts. Also AC isn't running or they trying to save money. Ugg

P P.

Yelp
Let me start out by saying food is good. However customer service is lacking. Visiting Dallas and so thought let's call ahead to see what time is last seating. We were told 9:30pm. Ok great, we will make it on time. We got there only to be told that only appetizers would be allowed and the person rattled off 4 items that we could choose from. Had we known that when we called we would have opted for a different restaurant. Manager should train staff to let late callers know that choices will be limited and not be surprised like us!

Valeria O.

Yelp
I went to go eat at this place wit my friends they have absolutely rude service and plus there was a bug in my food disgusting!!

Rajesh K.

Yelp
Awful. Everything is awful from cleanliness to taste. Except having the Saravanaa Bhavan name-board, no aspect of SB you will see here. Attached the receipt. Almost every item came to the table not at all tasty, prepared-in-hurry, uncleaned plates or bad plates. 1. Mysore Bonda: Literally these are cooked with VADA Bater. It is VADA bater. These Vada-balls were uncooked and there is raw bater inside. We just ate outer layer by peeling it off. We just kept that raw bater on different plate expecting that the staff would see it. 2. Mixed Vegetable Cheese Dosa: The only vegetables we found were fried cabbage and onion. There is some tadka in it. The cheese was smelling foul. 3. Paneer Pulao: This is not even close to be called a Pulao. It is a disgrace really it came to table in that form. I was so hungry and I am with guests, so I had to be respectful - so I tasted it. It is just literally white rice with tadka. And, with some added paneer. Worst ever. REMOVE THAT SARAVANAA BHAVAN board on your shop. 4. Chili Paneer: It is as sweet as sugar. So much sweet sauce added. But the paneer got cooked good. But we could not chew more than 3 or 4 paneer cubes as it tasted so sweet. 5. We asked for extra plates. And, they were so dirty when they were brought to table. There is upma particles on them. My friend's wife showed it to them. The SB girl replied, "They are like that mam here!" FYI, this is not the girl who served us or took the order. So, don't question her about it. 6. Idli, poori and plain Dosa were good. I would neither visit this place nor recommend to the people I love/like. I will recommend this place to the people only I dislike (It's a joke).

Robbie R.

Yelp
Food Quality is bad. Service is fine. I had Pongal, Mysore Bonda, and Dahi Vada. Pongal tasted bad, Mysore bonda tasted as Punugulu, and Dahi vada tasted bitter.
google avatar

Rashmi S.

Yelp
Their service has become very very slow. Seating is partially open. If you have sufficient time to wait then you can plan to visit. And their main focus is just to-go orders. Not planning to visit anytime soon.

Yelp
A chain that originated at my birthplace gives me a slice of home, and glad this brand is in my vicinity. I turn to them if I want to take a break from meat and feel light after a good old fashioned vegetarian meal. What I'd recommend at this place? Once it is safe to dine in completely and you're going for lunch, you cannot go wrong with a round of the "Saravaanaa special meals", which gives you a plethora of veg curries and soups spread around white rice, Indian bread (poori or chappati) and a poppadum. This, however is NOT a light meal like I mentioned in the beginning, but allows you to sample multiple offerings, and they come out super fast if you don't have much time during a lunch break. But, I have yet to clear my plate. Also recommended are the different arrays of dosas that they offer. Dosas for the uninitiated are light, thin crepes made from rice batter and done with different add ons and served with chutneys and sambar. My favorites are the masala dosa (served with a potato filling) and the karampodi dosa (if you can take the heat). Drawbacks? Service can sometimes be slow and lackluster at this location, but hopefully it should be way better when I finally venture back to the location again.

Yelp
Amazing south Indian food..coming from a south Indian who has lived in South India for 6 years. There is nothing that beats this place if you're looking for an authentic Indian experience. There is only one Saravana Bhavan in Dallas and I'm glad that they're here. Things you must try - their filter coffee, masala dosa, a thali. Delicious food, I truly enjoy eating here but don't take my word for it. You should try it yourself and see if it's your cup of chai or coffee

Yelp
Was recommended this place and it was so delicious. Great prices, good food, and very fast service. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Poor service. long wait time. Food was so and so. Not worth the hype. I doubt if I will visit again.
google avatar

Trudy N.

Yelp
This is a no go. We were u familiar with the menu and staff was unhelpful. Service was awful. Appetizer came after entree. There was two of us and are entrees we're not served at the same time. Very uncomfortable. We had to ask for napkins and utensils. I had chili shrimp that was over cooked snd tough. I told our waiter twice and got no response at all. Our water and soda was served warm because fridge wasn't working. Found a cold water dispenser later but it was never offered to us. The bathroom was very dirty as well. To sum it up food was bad, service nonexistent and bathroom filthy.

Raghu N.

Yelp
Great food that takes you back home with its taste!! Friendly and quick service with a great ambience!!

Yelp
Couldn't get any more authentic and I am taking about their South Indian thali (saravana special meals) Saravana bhavan is a popular restaurant in India and they have branches all over the world. They specialize in South Indian food, food from the state of Tamil Nadu to be specific. That's right, the diversity of Indian food doesn't end at north/South Indian! I still haven't tried anything else on the menu but I decided the thali in itself deserved a review! Eating here was one of the first things we did on reaching Dallas because sometimes, all a South Indian girl needs is a nice big plate of South Indian meal! The meal had 6 side dishes, 2 sweets, a choice of chapathi/poori and rice, the authentic South Indian white rice, not basmati. Not to forget the pickle and yogurt( a formal meal in the majority of south India usually ends with yogurt) All the side dishes were perfectly spiced, yes if you like your food mild, many of these may be on the spicier side. They were super busy during lunch on a weekend, one of our thalis came 5 minutes after the other and our server came back only to give the check but I hardly noticed with all that deliciousness I was stuffing into my mouth! I am still dreaming about the meal! Will definitely try the other things on the menu and update the review after a couple of visits.

Yelp
The best. That's all I can say. Every time I can come in, I do. Love the variety and quality of the dosas. Incredible seasonings. Yum!

M S.

Yelp
Server and manager were so rude. The Dossa was good but I got the vegetable birayani and it was so spicy it was inedible. Prices pretty high. I dont think Ill go back
