"Colourful drapes add a cheerful vibe while live performances of Indian instruments creates a vibrant ambiance. This restaurant in Little India serves authentic Northern Indian dishes, such as the must-order fish amritsari made with red snapper in a thick, spicy curry of balanced flavours. Dal makhani, or black lentil soup, is best enjoyed with an extra serving of plain chapati. Lastly, save room for gulab jamun that bursts with milky goodness." - Michelin Inspector

Tried Restaurant Sardaarji in Penang and overall had a pleasant meal. The food was tasty and freshly made. I liked the butter chicken and naan. The staff were polite and service was quite fast. The place is simple but clean and comfortable. Interestingly, during our visit there weren’t any Indian or local customers, most of the diners looked like Western tourists. It seems like many people came because of the restaurant’s Michelin Bib Gourmand mention. One nice thing: if you check in on social media, they give you a free lemon juice.

I recently visited Sardaarji Restaurant with my husband, and it was truly an amazing dining experience. From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed by a vibrant Punjabi atmosphere—lively music, friendly staff, and a mouth-watering aroma that instantly made us hungry. The food was outstanding, especially the veggie pakoras, which honestly surprised me. They were perfectly crispy, full of flavor, and easily among the best I’ve had—even compared to places back in India. The aloo parathas were equally impressive: crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and incredibly flavorful. Also garlic naan is soft and flavourful. The portion sizes were generous and absolutely worth the price. The staff were polite, attentive, and friendly, always happy to recommend their best dishes. The restaurant itself was clean, cozy, and had a warm, family-friendly vibe. For a first-time Michelin experience, Sardaarji made it both memorable and comforting. Overall, Sardaarji Restaurant is a must-visit for anyone who loves authentic Punjabi food. I would definitely come back again for more!

Sizzling mutton was exceptionally tender, Amritsar fish was creamy delish, garlic naan to mop up the gravy. Sizzling paneer is good and we just had to order a plain rice at the end to clean up all the delicious gravy.

It was my first time having authentic Indian food in Penang. The dishes were full of rich spices, but not overwhelming — just the right balance. The pani puri were sweet and tangy, which really whetted the appetite. The garlic cheese naan was especially fragrant and delicious, and when paired with the butter chicken, it was simply irresistible — I couldn’t get enough!

I recently visited the Michelin listed Indian restaurant hoping for a memorable meal, but unfortunately the experience fell short of expectations. Right off the bat the pricing felt steep — I ordered a butter chicken dish that cost RM 39.90, yet the portion turned out to be just about six to seven small cubes of chicken. For that price I expected more generous serving size. The service also left a lot to be desired. The waiter didn’t smile, made no recommendations, and seemed uninterested in engaging. It lacked the welcoming, attentive feel you hope for at a higher-end establishment. The ambiance didn’t redeem the situation, either. Although the space itself is large, the environment felt hot and stuffy. Only one small air-conditioning unit seemed to be running while the rest of the restaurant was warm and under-cooled. For the kind of pricing and reputation, I expected a more comfortable climate and a more polished atmosphere. Would I return? Probably not. The combination of high cost, underwhelming portion, poor service and uncomfortable setting simply doesn’t justify another visit.

The veggie pakora honestly surprised me. It was crispy, flavourful, and easily one of the best I’ve had even compared to places back in India. It’s rare to find something this good in Penang. I also tried the tandoori chicken biryani, which is perfect if you enjoy medium spice without overwhelming heat. The flavours are balanced and the chicken is cooked really well. The chicken dum biryani was solid too, aromatic and satisfying. Service was warm and attentive, which just made the whole experience even better. If you’re craving proper North Indian flavours in Penang, this place is absolutely worth it.

We ordered the masala balls and the lamb biryani. The masala balls were crispy on the outside and soft inside, full of spices and flavor. The lamb biryani was fragrant and well-seasoned, and the lamb was tender and not dry. Portion size was generous and perfect for sharing. Overall a satisfying meal, especially if you enjoy Indian spices.

Came back to Saardaji Restaurant after two years, and I’m happy to say the quality is still amazing! The paneer butter masala is rich, creamy, and full of flavour — exactly how I remembered it. The garlic naan is soft, fragrant, and pairs perfectly with the curry. Just that slightly expensive for dinner as no set price Still the same premium quality after all these years. Highly recommended! 🙌🍽️
