So I have been here only three times. The first two times were great. The Japanese man that works there was making the sushi and looked like he was calling the shots. Sushi was great and so were the bento boxes. The service was not great. The Hispanic women that work there do not greet you, smile and barely acknowledge you. The third time I decided to go I thought, not a friendly atmosphere but the good is good. Well, the Japanese guy was not there and there were two Hispanic women making the sushi. I was a bit concerned but thought ok, they may have been trained. Nope, the sushi was bad and looked like it was just thrown in the boxes. The fried rice was more like oily rice. Never again. Sometimes people need to stick with what they know. These Hispanic women should not be making Japanese food. Never again. Bad service, bad food Bad service, good sushi only if the Asian man makes it.

I used to really enjoy Sarku Japan, but lately it’s gone downhill. The portions have gotten noticeably smaller compared to before, which is disappointing, but what bothers me more is the quality. Every time I go now, the chicken is already pre-cooked and just sitting there. Instead of cooking it fresh to order like they should, they just reheat it and serve it. It feels lazy, and the taste shows it. What used to be a place I looked forward to has become a letdown.

Google
The people here are incredibly rude. I ordered a bento box and asked for fried rice. When I got the meal, there was no fried rice and I told them that I specifically asked for fried rice and they refused. The lady knows that I did, and another customer who ordered behind me also heard me say fried rice. They told me to either go back and pay again or leave. I have been to Quickway, and they are the best. This place sucks. They even made me wait in line again to give them a dollar for yum yum sauce. I’ve never been to a hibachi type place that doesn’t automatically give yum yum sauce with the bento boxes. The sushi was warm too. DO NOT GO HERE. Worst customer service they should be shut down.

Terrible ratio for rice vs tempura. Plus theres no avocado at all when it is supposed to have

Google
It’s incredible this restaurants open at 11 but they didn’t even turn on the lights until 11:05 and then there’s no one in the cashier until 11:13. After I order my meal the took around 15 - 20 mnts doing it. So if you’re expecting coming here at 11 and order something you better have at least 30 mnts free for only one meal. Don’t take me wrong the food it’s good what is not good it’s the personal

Google
This restaurant is located in food court in Dulles town center mall. It is my favorite one. My loved menu is chicken and shrimp teriyaki w/ vegetable. The taste is always awesome. The price is cheap.

Google
No cause what the hell I used to love this place till they did this, this compared to the other pictures is nothing. They completely robbed me! The food doesn’t taste the way it used to. No flavor. The pictures online are definitely misleading and wrong to compare to what you actually get. I’m probably not gonna buy again

Google
It used to be good taste and not expensive. It used to be long waiting line. But now it tastes like water and too expensive.

Yelp
MY 2 STAR RATING IS NOT ABOUT FOOD TASTE, QUALITY AND FRESHNESS WHICH IS VERY GOOD ON ALL FRONTS at this location (**for the hibachi teriyaki grilled chicken which is the only entree we ever get here**) The 2 stars is for the ever increasing prices of this place and the continued shrinkflation happening here (and at the other Sarku locations I'm sure). I read my last review of this place over 2 years ago and chuckled. Even back then (just coming out of covid) I was complaining about these same things - price increase and shrinkflation. And to think I thought $22 for 2 teriyaki chicken meals was too much! This weekend I paid $19 for ONE, count 'em ONE, chicken teriyaki meal, granted with double meat. What in the world was I complaining about 2+ years ago, amiright?! lol Then why keep coming here, you ask? Well, sometimes you have to cave in when the teriyaki craving hits you. We come out to the mall eatery when we're in the area running errands. The eatery has surprisingly rebounded and appears to be reconstituting its offerings although the mall itself, post-covid, remains a sad and sorry shell of its former self. #sadface Back to Sarku...No complaints at all about the taste, freshness and quality of the teriyaki chicken. A container full of sizzling, piping hot and fresh grilled meat right from watching it get expertly grilled right before your own eyes - CAN'T GET MORE FRESH THAN THAT. The "chef" working the grill honestly is a pro. We remember him when he first started wayyyyy back in the day (well before covid) - "apprenticing" under the prev "chef". This guy is good - he apprenticed well lol. He's fast, efficient and knows how to crank out multiple orders at once. Frankly, he single-handedly keeps this place running like a top. (Give this guy a raise....or part ownership of the business because he's the one keeping this place alive and kicking.) So, NO COMPLAINTS AT ALL WITH SARKU'S FOOD QUALITY. Our go-to order now is to order 1 ENTREE WITH DOUBLE MEAT. It's definitely a better deal and IT'S ENOUGH FOR 2 PEOPLE TO SHARE - especially if you're not ravenous. Check out my pic and vid of our double meat order. You'll see what I mean. ANOTHER TIP: no matter that we no longer frequent this place much anymore (due to how expensive it's become for "fast food"), we still keep a FREQUENT DINER CARD on hand and use it when we go/order - it's worth getting a free entree for every 6 you order - so if you're not doing that (especially if you do go here regularly or order multiple entrees in a single visit), get a card from the cashier and start getting your entrees stamped and earning a free meal. The cards never expire and are not location specific so even better if you frequent different Sarku locations. As I said, we don't go out of our way to go to this Sarku or any other location because of how pricey it is. Sarku has continued to steadily jack up their prices AND have made their containers smaller and smaller and smaller (so they can make you feel like they've generously stuffed your box full of food - clever! ...not). Their other menu items might be better value but I seriously doubt it and I don't think I would trust sushi made at a fast food carryout joint anyway. So, for all these reasons, we only go when we're in the area of the mall AND have a craving for teriyaki chicken.

Yelp
The sushi was so nasty it's like it's been sitting out all day! I couldn't even finish it. The rice and chicken in the bento box was the only okay tasting thing. The rest ew.

Yelp
So I normally have great food and great experience with this place. The food is good and I've been ordering from them for years. I actually hate leaving bad reviews for restaurants because I know the error could just be a person who decided to do a half azz job on a Wednesday. However this happened twice this week. I ordered the California tempura rolls which have cream cheese in them. Two times this week the rolls came with no cream cheese and it's honestly a favorable part. I ordered through DoorDash and got a refund the first time. Just to make sure it didn't happen again, I tried to call Sarku but no one answered the phone. Then I texed my dasher to ask if he could just ask them to make sure it's correct with cream cheese. He said, you have to contact the restaurant. He couldn't even ask a question for me. And because of that he missed out on a $10 tip. I'm really writing this review in hopes that a manager at Sarku sees it and makes sure that they are making the sushi rolled correctly. I'm going to put a picture of what I received vs the picture. Not saying that any restaurant looks like the picture but this roll was missing cream cheese, some slices were missing avocado, and one was even open with hardly anything in the middle. I know they are probably busy but that is no excuse for basically thrown together rolls. It's clear no one cared that day. If you are in the mall, try it but if you are ordering it will taste good but the accuracy will be iffy. Most people would give a 1 star review on this but I'm giving 3 hoping the quality will return to normal.

Yelp
Service was HORRIBLE! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE ! I asked for 1 chicken teriyaki roll & was charged twice so for it , so i asked to get refunded for the extra amount of money i paid the cashier said no then this unprofessional lady who claim was the manager from the store whose name is "Catherine or katherine" or at least thats what i believe because her coworkers hesitate when i asked for her name. A VERY UNPROFESSIONAL AND NASTY PERSON by the way! After i explained everything to her she did get me the refund but in a rude way.. when she was walking to the back of the store she said to the other workers in Spanish " si yo fuera le diera veneno " which would translate to " if it was me i would give her poison " basically meaning that if she was the one making my food she would poison it? Now i asked to the owner of this restaurant if thats the manager he wanna have working for him!? Threatening people to poison them!?? I will post the Recipt of the double charged as proof and also i must mention that since i paid with apple pay she tried to say that a refund was not possible because i pay with my phone after a while she finally refunded me but in cash so i will post the other recipt too.. i feel so emotional hurt because now im scared to even eat my food most likely will go to the trash.. i mean how can anyone eat after someone threatened them with something like that.. no words hope the owner does something about this..

Yelp
Service sucked so much I asked for a fruit punch but they gave a tea I asked again and said " are you sure ?" And she said " YES" in a mad voice ! Also very loud !

Yelp
Standard mall food, especially if you're in a hurry. The food is hot and ready in 5 mins once your order. The taste is kinda uniform and bland but there aren't a whole lot of good options available I guess. The service is decent/fast and the quantity is ample, with the option to do double meat for $2 extra. Worth a try at least once although we've been eating this couple a times a year for the last ten years.

Yelp
Asked for Shrimp Teriyaki. Guy who barely speaks English manning the register rings up a beef teriyaki instead and throws my receipt away. I made the mistake of going home before checking. Came back to request it be remade and the dude tells me I told him beef. I don't even eat beef why would I order it. Him and his buddy laugh in the back while talking smack in Spanish. Skimps me on my shrimp sizing too...felt like I was in prison commissary and not an established business in a mall

Karen Y.

Yelp
Came here to explore, found this place that I used to love so I was excited. However this was disappointing. 1. They over charged me. I asked for chicken and beef, she could have billed me beef teriyaki ($8.69) + extra chicken ($1.99). But she billed me chicken teriyaki ($8.29) and double beef ($3.19) - cost extra! 2. Not enough food like how it used to be. 3. The food does not taste as good as before.

Yelp
-The teriyaki sauce is just not the same anymore. -The portions have gotten smaller and the prices have gone up. -I miss the $0.99 double meat days, where they actually gave you DOUBLE the meat. +Nostalgia brings me back to Sarku, all the time.

Catherine P.

Yelp
Ehhhhh. This Sarku is located in the mall food court. The food is just okay. I came here last week to have lunch with a friend and they literally had no chicken cooked. We had to wait and it honestly wasn't worth the wait. The chicken tasted stringy, almost cat like, and the sauce had no taste. I would not come back.
google avatar

Ploii P.

Yelp
This restaurant is located in the Dulles town center mall. It is in the food court. I can say that every time I find something to eat in food court, I always find for Sarku Japan. My favorite menu is chicken and shrimp teriyaki with vegetable. The taste is always so good. However, should not expect for good service. Sometimes there is very long line.
google avatar

Bethany N.

Yelp
Super friendly, I got more here then the one in Chantilly. They also got my order right.

Yohan M.

Yelp
I got the bento box and it was delicious. The California roll was nice and fresh. The chicken and shrimp teriyaki is the best food I ever had.
google avatar

Sabrina N.

Yelp
I used to think this was one of the better places to eat in the food court, but it's gone down hill in the past few years. I do like the taste of the food and the expansion of their menu such as the bento box, but the staff is just unfriendly (including the owner), the food portion has decreased while the pricing has increased. If I happen to be at the mall and there isn't a long line, sure I will grab something. Otherwise, I don't go out of my way anymore.
google avatar

Bao-Quynh T.

Yelp
I ordered the double chicken meal, after a long wait for the chicken to cook, i was in line getting my food. However, when everyone picked up the food, and got to my turn, the rude unfriendly cooking guy asked me if I had the receipt to show him before I could pick up. Honestly, who has the receipt at hand when you stand in line, also how come no one was asked while I was the only one being asked to show my receipt. It took me a while to find the receipt in my purse and be able to pick up my food. Terrible experience!!! Anyway, this will be my last time buying from this place, especially the chicken is cooked to burn to eat, and they skimmed on the sauce so it tastes really dry.
google avatar

Hakan M.

Yelp
Worst snarky I've been too. They are super skimpy. Especially with rice which is ridiculous. The chicken tasted terrible because they don't marinate it enough. Go somewhere else in the mall
google avatar

Dakine P.

Yelp
They get the orders wrong almost every visit. Food is good, love the franchise - just all around bad service at this place
google avatar

Yelp
The worst Japanese food I've ever had. The California roll was warm, the dumplings were cold and dry, and the beef teriyaki, prepared before my eyes, came out of plastic container, and when it was raw, looked like cat food. I ordered a shrimp teriyaki that I did t receive, but after seeing the rest of the bento box, I didn't want it, The chicken teriyaki was also on the cook surface. After it was served I watched one if the cooks shovel, yes, that was the tool, several pounds of raw chicken into the cooktop from a plastic bun SITTING on the COUNTER- not refrigerated- just yuck.
google avatar

Marisa L.

Yelp
Decent food at a good price but the staff there are so unfriendly. Maybe botox is preventing them from smiling? I always order the teriyaki chicken with steamed rice and veggies (I wish they would offer brown rice). Last visit they were a little skimpy on the sauce, though.
google avatar

K K.

Yelp
There is not a single thing that is good about this place. They cook it right there in front of you, but the noodle is not fresh. The chicken was too chewy. It is so salty that I literally drank a whole bottle of water. It was dirty, trash was all over the counter. I ask the lady about the vegetable but she didn't want to answer. I expect to pay for it. How rude.

K K.

Yelp
While putting the food in the plates the employee had her thumb in the plate, no gloves. I asked her to use proper hygiene when handling food and she rolled her eyes and turned her back to me and mumbled something to the cashier. I asked her to use gloves to which she replied "we dont use gloves here". THEN i found hair at the bottom of my plate. It appears that food handling is rocket science to some people. Disgusting ass people.

Yelp
This is actually one of the better places to eat in the mall. I was in the mood for some teriyaki so I came here. I ordered the chicken teriyaki combo. This was basically a pile of veggie fried rice, with stir fry veggies, with teriyaki chicken on top. I was right around 6 bucks. Once you put your order in, a person scoops either fried or white rice into a Styrofoam container, then pushes it down the line. The next person is cooking up the veggies. Once that is done, they put it over the rice, then push it down to the next person. This person is cooking up the meats. Once the meat is done, they put that on top and you are done. They actually have a pretty good production line ready. They don't cook too much up at a time. I guess they want it to be as fresh as it is. When I was in line more and more people started to come up, as it was dinner time. So they had more of everything cooking so the line could go fast. Taste wise, it was pretty good. Nothing fancy, just plain and simple food. They did give you a lot of rice, and to be honest, the box was pretty heavy. Not too bad for 6 bucks and change. For mall food, it met my expectations. Don't expect this to be a 5 star meal, but for the price, it was good enough =)
google avatar

Allison K.

Yelp
Awful. Cold, gristly pieces of chicken teriyaki. Gyoza was rubbery and cold. California roll had all brown avocado. I couldnt eat more than a few bites. This is last time I am eating here. Sad, I used to love this place.
google avatar

Imane L.

Yelp
The cashier on tonight's shift 1-February was very rude! She refused to serve me while serving a person in front of me. When asked she said "because I just don't want to" 30 minute before she closed and continued to say she didn't want to serve me! She was speaking Spanish with the customer and even cursed at me in Spanish for no apparent reason. I confronted her you have plenty of chicken and of course continued to refuse my service. This is a loss of business as I will never come here again.i asked for her manager, she said come back tomorrow she will be here then. I have no idea what this company is working towards, but I would definitely not have someone like that as the face of my company! This lady needs to understand what customer service is about! So unfortunate because I come with my husband about for times a month. It almost felt as if I was racial profiled and didn't want to serve me because I was not of her ethnic background!! Very sad! Sarku Japan needs to do better!!
google avatar

Just M.

Yelp
This is the worst Japanese food compare to the original no quality and unhealthy. The dumpling too oily and not fresh. Beside the Cashier not friendly and rude never admit the mistake. I was order the bento chicken but she give me chicken terriyaki. When i told to her that not my order, she blamed that what I ordered. I will never come again in this restaurant.
google avatar

Gene B.

Yelp
Every time I go here I get chicken teriyaki extra meat. It's always good, fresh, fast, and they cook the food right in front of you.

Robert S.

Yelp
I have stopped by this place several times over the past 2-3 years and every time it is a complete joke. They either screw your order up and then act rude like I did something wrong or they are just rude in general. Yesterday before heading to work I was at DTC running an errand and against my better judgement decided to try Sarku Japan one last time. I arrived at the food court at 10:45 AM and know they open at 11:00 I stood nearby looking at my phone, roughly 20 feet from the place you order while a woman was setting up. I then walked up to the counter at exactly 11:00 and she said that they weren't ready for orders because "people hadn't come to work" and that it would be roughly 20 minutes before she take my order. I said to her that you saw me standing right here for fifteen minutes, you could have said something to me. She just brushed it off without a sense of concern or caring. I then proceeded to walk across the food court to another place and ordered and sat down. By this time it was 11:10 and I glanced over at Sarku and was amazed to see about 8 people placing orders and some actually walking away with their food on a tray. In my opinion this place is a total disaster in terms of the the Woman manager who doesn't give a shit about customer service and the fact that when they mess up an order acts arrogant and yesterday was the icing on the cake. Keep doing what your doing Sarko and you'll soon be just another place boarded up waiting for the next place to open. Sarko is a total joke and one star is one too many.
google avatar

Jared I.

Yelp
Customer service is extremely horrible, but the food is good. I eat here at least 3-4 times a month and each time I experience the same customer service experience. The cashier has never said "thank you", they Never Smile, and asking for a glass of water is not appreciated, it's like I have killed their dog, you have to ask multiple times. If the food wasn't good and the prices reasonable, I probably wouldn't visit this place very often.
google avatar

Donald L.

Yelp
We used to eat at this location all the time. Not any more. Found a huge roach in my food! Disgusting, don't eat here. The lady even gave me a hard time refunding my meal! She spent more time examining the roach.

Pete k.

Yelp
I used to love this place. I will never eat here again. NEVER. They take your money, put a container on the counter which you follow as it makes it's way down the cooking line. They have decided they cannot ring up too many people at one time The woman at the register kept ringing people up, one after another, stacking styrofoam, on styrofoam so no one knew which dish was theirs. It eventually turned into a fight to get your food, as the rudest people butted ahead of the people waiting patiently. They got the orders wrong, double chicken HAH, be glad you got chicken, sucker. This place deserves negative stars for my last visit.

Sandy R.

Yelp
Yes, I get this is fast food, however, their "soba" noodles are just regular lo mein type noodles. Change your menu Sarku. It was for my 2yo who always wants to eat noodles, and he liked it, so I gave it two stars.
google avatar

Alex P.

Yelp
I'm originally from Seattle, where there is a great teriyaki place on every corner, and now that I'm in the DC area theres not so much Teriyaki. Even though this is fast food place in the mall, the Teriyaki is actually pretty good. I reccomend it for a quick meal thats very casual. The portions are decent too.
google avatar

Paul W.

Yelp
Decent place -- I really wish I could rate it 3.5 stars. All I've ever gotten here is the chicken teriyaki combo. For the money, you get enough food to make you sleepy and it is reasonably tasty if you ask for extra teriyaki sauce and put some hot sauce on it. Gourmet it isn't, but hot, fresh and filling are better than you get with most food court fare.

Miyuki A.

Yelp
The food is really good, I love the chicken Teriyaki, but sadly the personal aren't the best they don't even smile specially the girl that is working as a cashier but after that, everything is great!
google avatar

Max K.

Yelp
If I could choose 0 star, I will give them 0. Actually, this was my favorite place in this food court until yesterday. But I will NEVER go there any more!!! Today, my wife and me bought teriyaki chicken and teriyaki beef from here and found a table to eat then sit down. After 2 minutes, the boss(lady who is Chinese) of the sarku came to our table and said to us angrily:"you didn't say excuse me to my customer when you were grabbing the soybean sauce. ARE YOU CHINESE? ARE YOU NEW HERE? CHINESE FROM MAINLAND DON'T KNOW SAY EXCUSE ME IN AMERICA. AND I DON'T WANT MY CUSTOMER UNHAPPY!!" We were so surprised. We didn't know what she was talking about!! My wife grabbed some soybean sauce bags from the box and I saw the customer had already grabbed his food from the table and he was about to go to his seat. And my wife was standing just in front of the sauce box and used her left hand to grabbed the soybean sauce bags. And I saw the guy was standing far away from her. Yes, we are Chinese couple who lived in the US almost ten years and we are also educated. We say excuse me before we want do something. We don't know what happened at that time and everything was so normal at that time. My question is, WHAT IS THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MY NATIONALITY AND THIS INCIDENCE?WHAT QUALIFICATION DO YOU HAVE TO TEACH OTHERS? I AM ALSO HER CUSTOMER, BECAUSE I WAS FROM THE SAME COUNTRY WITH HER, SO CAN SHE COME TO MY TABLE AND TREAT US SO RUDE??? I swear we didn't do anything impolite to the guy in front of us. Everything was so normal. I just want to say to the lady if she can read this review:"DON'T LOOK DOWN UPON PEOPLE FROM YOUR COUNTRY. YOU ARE FROM CHINA TOO. THIS WILL NOT BE THE END..."

Ryan K.

Yelp
This restaurant refused to make new food when there was over half an hour left until closing. I requested simply chicken with no sauce because I am diabetic and can't have the sugar in the teriyaki sauce. They wouldn't make any more. Terrible customer service.
google avatar

Nya A.

Yelp
The teriyaki chicken is tasty here and always seems to be the busiest area in the food court here. We also love the chicken tempura here. I haven't tried anything else, I tend to stick to my favorite dish here.
google avatar

Azar M.

Yelp
Definitely not the best food I've ever eaten, but pretty good for the choices a food court usually offers. Inexpensive and tasty lunches are a win in my book. The chicken and beef terriyaki are both good, but you'll definitely want some of the siriacha sauce they have available to add.
google avatar

Princess G.

Yelp
My husband and i eat here one time with our kids. My husband saw one of the chef use the spatula, the use for cooking to clean the grease on the air vent and use again in cooking the food. Its totaly disgusting. Yuck.... And boss even saw it and just laugh ewwww yuck.

Micheal K.

Yelp
The dumplings always dry and cold, and the staffs always unfriendly (especially the two old ladies with glasses),they need to learn how to respect every customer, cheap food values to cheap service???

Ning R.

Yelp
I was here a few days ago. I ordered 2 special of the day chicken teriyaki with shrimp and they tried to serve me SPOILED white rice. When I confronted them, the cashier took my container and put the white rice back in the rice cooker and mixed the spoiled rice with the newly cooked rice. Then scooped it back into my container. I could still see the spoiled rice which was yellowish in color and slimy. I told him that was disgusting and asked for my money back. We will never eat here again! Who knows what other disgusting things they do back there when people are not looking! Yuck!

Ricky R.

Yelp
Good, clean and quick place to grab lunch. They have the Chicken teriyaki on special each day, which I love! Cheap and a nice place to eat.
