Ordered the chicken teriyaki bowl. Didn't realize it had tempura and I have a severe gluten allergy. I sent it back and offered to get a more expensive allergy friendly item I can eat. Waiter said the manager refused the comp and still asked if I wanted the dragon roll. I said no, I'm good. Paid 20 bucks for food I can't eat and didn't even get to try the sushi. Disappointing. Not to mention the waiter was standing at the bar watching me eat and making me uncomfortable.... No wonder I was the only one in the restaurant at 6 PM.

Simple menu with rolls, sashimi, nigiri and a few main dishes. It was pretty empty but I can see it being a happening place during the weekends. Great service. Food was good too. Ordered the spicy edamame, the seaweed salad (recommended), Godzilla roll, tempura udon (recommended), kontatsu ramen, lotus Chicken, and piece salmon nigiri. Came out to be around $70.

Sushi spot in a nice spot with a limited menu and some drink offerings. Visited during happy hour and there was only one other table. Chef was less than enthusiastic and seemed to be very interested in his iPad. Expected more of Sasaki based on reviews.

This is a hidden gem. Small staff but they are on it. Nice quiet off the main strip of Old Town Scottsdale. Enters into the Civic Center Park right across from the Performing Arts Center. Perfect for date night with out the arrogance of the bigger Sushi Houses. Mt. Fuji and Flaming Dragon are the bomb. And yes, Miso and spring rolls are perfected.

Sasaki Sushi & Bar is quaint and purposeful. It’s décor is simplistic, nondescript and to the point, nothing out of the ordinary and very understating. Although not bad, I wouldn’t go as far as to say very good either when it comes to their mainstays of Nigiri, Sushi, Noodle, Sashimi, Udon and Rice Dishes. They all seem satisfactory. Our crew at the table fixated on the core of their offering, which surprisingly did not offer a huge selection, and the assortment not contributing any extraordinary taste or uniqueness. We went for the California Rolls, typical, standard and run of the mill. The warm Edamame in the pod, barely seasoned with salt and sesame oil. The Tonkotsu Ramen bowl with pork and seaweed, bland and using extremely narrow and what seemed like chewy undercooked noodles. Albeit their renditions of Tuna, Albacore and Shrimp Nigiri and Sashimi were good, it didn’t dispel the aforementioned experience. For our overall consensus, I would call Sasaki Sushi & Bar a community Japanese Dive Bar with some amount of pizazz. Cold drinks, decent Saki, offering some Japanese staples and a nonobtrusive atmosphere.

It's awesome. Notably for the price. CHECK THE HAPPY HOUR- It has the flavor and atmosphere of a San Diego County neighborhood sushi bar from the 80s. No pretense, no drama. It's not the High End fancy $40 a slice sushi, but it's not supposed to be. It's a sushi bar. Okay, nitpicky details on the happy hour specials. Spring rolls should include 3, not 2. Just a bit light, there. Seaweed salad is very appropriate for the price. Miso soup is great. Exactly what you expect and need when drinking $7 sake bombs. (You should be here right now) Speaking of sake bomb, that's $7 for a 20 Oz Sapporo and a couple shots worth of sake. Why are you not here RIGHT NOW? The rolls are $6 rolls. Don't expect more than that. It's a step up from deli sushi, and exactly what you expect for happy hour bar apps at a 1980s neighborhood sushi bar. Did I say bar? And 1990s prices? No problem eating dinner here, it's affordable and centrally located. but if you want to relax and have a happy hour drink and a light meal..... WHY ARE YOU NOT HERE? Wasabi is okay. It's not bad, not super special. Very American. Neighborhood bar. The ginger is a surprise. I've had worse at very expensive sushi restaurants. Very nice. If this isn't on your happy hour menu, you are missing the best of underground scottsdale

A group of us were in old town Scottsdale, and was walking around the new civic center to build up an appetite. 4 adults and 4 children that spanned the ages of 4-16, so we could have went to Grimaldi’s but passed by this place and some of the kids were tired of pizza and wanted Ramen. I know, kids tired of pizza… seems odd but true. They have a nice and clean A/C dining room but we opted for the outdoor patio seating area. As there was a nearby Jazz festival. It set the mood for a great dining experience. Ethan was our server, and even though it was a packed house, he got all of orders and assured that the food arrived nice and hot. We were happily surprised by the quality of the Tonkatsu Ramen, the noodles were just the amount of al dente and firmness. The broth was flavorful but not overly salty which complimented the pork belly and the medium egg. It was delicious and just 12$. We ordered some California rolls, shrimp tempura rolls, tempura udon soup, and sashimi. It was yummy, not leftovers at all. It was delicious, my family and I returned again. Ethan and the owner are not only great “hosts” but also delivered world class customer service and hospitality at the level you may come to expect at a fine dining establishment. We will be back.

Google
Not sure about the last few negative reviews... We came here last night for the first time and it was AMAZING. Its 2 doors down from AZ 88. It’s tastefully decorated and has big TVs which my hubby loved for college football. We had edamame and a seaweed salad to start, and ordered 3 rolls for dinner. Everything was beautifully presented, and the fish was so fresh! I got to dine at world renown Nobu in Aspen and this fish is on par with that experience. Our server was nice and on top of everything, the Chef helped us choose one roll and recommended we try his favorite roll (PHX roll see pic). It was so good. The owner even came to our table and greeted us. Everything was great. We will be back!

Yelp
It was great to enjoy happy hour on a Saturday below a show next door at Scottsdale center for performing arts. I ordered happy hour cucumber salad, which was fresh. A bit too watery. I added ponzu and wasabi for more flavor. The miso soup was flavorful with big waves of seaweed which I loved. Only suggestion is to serve it hot. The happy hour lotus chicken I'd never had. It was a pleasant surprise! Taste reminded me a bit of the ramen chicken seasoning and the sticky rice was warm and delightful! The mushrooms were a perfect touch b loved this! Appreciate my server's recommendation. One happy hour tid bit is that if you modify any HH items, they revert to regular pricing but it was only a couple dollar difference so no biggie as I added cream crease to the salmon and avocado roll. Well worth it! The avocado was thick and noticeable, loved it! The spring rolls came out piping hot, and the sweet dipping sauce was very tasty. A great $4 finish. The sushi chef was quiet and very focused, not as engaging but professional and hard at work. My server Ethan was great, very friendly, warm and attentive. One suggestion is for staff to be extra careful not to touch faces/noses without washing hands. Noticed that a few times while sitting. I have noticed this more and more in other establishments also so not unique to here but would love to see that improved. The menus are also a bit tattered in their lamination but not a big deal.

Yelp
Service was okay, waiter didn't bring water, forgot one of our sushi rolls and had to be asked for thing several times. Place is decent and not dirty. Food was meh. We had happy hour roll: Vegas, spicy salmon, spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, tuna avocado roll. All were just okay. We also got miso soup and two orders of the bbq pork buns. The appetizers were the best tasting items, we also got two sake bomb drinks and house sake. All was a total of 100 since it was happy hour. Would not come again as the quality was very poor.

Yelp
Great Happy Hour specials and rolls were fresh. It wasn't packed for a Friday night! I'll come back to try some other rolls.

Yelp
This is my comfort place. It has the best happy hour, every day, and very good sushi and appetizers, yet no one is ever here! It almost makes it feel like it's a place just for me, but I can't gate keep, I want them to have the business. Plus everyone there is so nice and attentive. Their happy hour sake bombs are an amazing deal, and though their pork buns aren't on happy hour, they're amazing. I go here almost weekly and I look forward to it every time

Yelp
I went here recently with two friends for a weeknight dinner without a reservation and we were seated immediately. It was not busy, and we received great service from start to finish. The ambiance was an interesting contrast-Japanese decorations, included paintings of cherry blossoms, but country music playing in the background. Given construction in the area and its location, the restaurant is not the easiest place to find-navigation apps won't steer you to the correct location. If you are driving like we were, park in the nearby public garage (which is free) and walk a couple minutes to the restaurant. My friends and I split the scallion pancakes, which were fantastic-perfectly cooked, not too oily, great flavor. However, the spicy sauce served with the pancakes was salty to the point of being inedible. For my main, I got the tempura udon, which was delicious and fairly priced for the portion size. The fish-based broth had great umami and the right amount of salt. There were lots of noodles and green onions, and the tempura asparagus and shrimp were fried well enough to the point that they held up in the soup. I would recommend Sasaki Sushi & Bar for a happy hour or night out in Old Town Scottsdale.

Yelp
Great, happy hour friendly service and way better than Ra! We came in for happy hour and ended up getting soggy bombers, edamame shrimp and Gary salmon avocado roll. Tuna roll a few other things and it was absolutely amazing.

Yelp
Great little sushi spot within walking distance of old town. They have amazing prices and a wide selection of popular rolls. The staff are very friendly and quick. I've been here twice now and their happy hour is awesome. I really enjoyed the spicy chicken bowl and the Vegas roll. Only bit of feedback is the outside tables could use a refresh. Some of the furniture is a little sun damaged and torn.

Yelp
Decently priced happy hour menu. Not the best sushi in town, but it'll satisfy a sushi craving. Quick and attentive service!

Yelp
Sushi was great, host was great however unfortunately the chef was very unfriendly and non welcoming. We would have stayed longer but didn't feel comfortable. We tried to break the ice but nothing worked. Maybe he was having a bad day. Who knows! We also weren't made aware that there was a happy hour menu. Strange place. Will not be coming back.

Whitney V.

Yelp
The flavors of the food was better than any other sushi place we have been! Plate presentation was absolutely stunning. Service is amazing, they make you feel comfortable and are knowledgeable about the menu. Ambience has a very chill/ romantic vibe. It is also a great place to watch games. Prices are amazingly affordable especially during happy hour. I highly recommend it for date nights!!!!

Joe E.

Yelp
Ordered take out. Will not be doing that again. Ordered tonkatsu ramen and the broth they gave me was a small amount and was already half spilled in the plastic bag. Also, I only ordered 3 items and they forgot one of them. If they were busy I would understand, but there was not a single person dining in.
google avatar

Yelp
New to the area found this place with my husband and 6yr old wanted some sushi and ramen. Not crowded for a tiny restaurant but about 1 to 2 ppl in a table. As we waited the waiter said he could not take any more tables. I was in disbelief how we were turned away. Did not cause a scene bc I'm better than that. I guess this is a place that chooses their customers. Should have placed a sign out on the door if they could not accommodate any more customers. Or could have said this is not a family restaurant. Bc that's how I felt with my family. Disappointing.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I are moving out here in the next couple months and coming from LA we wanted to try out a sushi spot. We came across a couple and seen this one had good reviews so we wanted to try it. Service is the worst. They're racist or have a problem with controlling their tables and customers. Slow service was standing waiting to be seated for 5 minutes, just to be told "sit wherever someone will be with you" To not get helped by anybody for another 5 minutes. While others came in after us and got seated with menus and waters. I'm in waitressing and bartending service. Didn't even want to try their food after. Wont be back here again but i'll take your money Thank you We went somewhere else and food and CUSTOMER SERVICE was amazing.

Yelp
The food was delicious! We happened to be in the area and needed a place that didn't close at 8:30 on a Wednesday night. The three of us shared the sashimi boat a flaming dragon and dragon roll. The Sasaki margarita is delicious! Highly recommend it. Ethan took good care of us, service wise.

Yelp
What a hidden gem! It's in a great location right by AZ 88 - unfortunately, there is a ton of construction going on in that area and you could easily miss this place. But I'm glad we didnt. We went for happy hour and let me tell you, they have incredible deals! Happy hour from 4-7 PM and it includes items like: $7 Larger sake bombers, $5 glasses of wine, an assortment of apps for $3 and an assortment of sushi rolls for $5/$6. I am not kidding you, I had the spring rolls, two sushi rolls, a miso soup, a glass of wine and a sake bomber and my bill was only $31. Outside of the deals, the place has an awesome ambiance. It's open, yet cozy. The food was amazing - the soup was not too salty and the sushi rolls tasted so fresh. I don't typically get tempura rolls but I went out on a limb and tried one and I was not disappointed. It wasn't overly fried or too breaded, it was perfect. It was honestly so good that I forgot to take a single picture of the food! 10/10 recommend and will definitely be returning.

Yelp
The assorted rolls and sashimi were good the price was great for Scottsdale! Just got take out but the kid helping me was good at his job and that goes a long way w me. Overall it's worth a try, so many people have become sushi experts and most are full of shit and overpay. It's not 5 star but let's face it I'm hungry 3hrs later anyways.
google avatar

Adam A.

Yelp
Great hole-in-the-wall sushi joint. Its indoor decor is quite nice and the sushi rolls are freshly made. The nigiri, which is usually priced quite highly (for good reason!) was excellent and the ramen my boyfriend had was fantastic. Overall good service, friendly waiter (though I can't remember his name; he has darker hair and glasses) and a reasonable waiting time. Definitely a good pick if you're new to the area or just visiting!
google avatar

Money M.

Yelp
The worst experience ever! I understand you all get busy but at least when you tell ppl it's a 20 min wait and they say it's fine and sit down patiently , don't give attitude and act like you don't see your customers that would love to pay to be in your establishment and treat them very discriminating,... you allowed someone to seat themselves and still gave them a menu as we were just wanting to be acknowledged and given a menu until we had to ask you then you give me a lot of discriminating attitude when we were very patient and nice ! So I felt very embarrassed , humiliated and bad about being treated in a place I love
google avatar

Curt T.

Yelp
This place was super good. The sushi was fresh and the service was beyond what was expected. So fast. They even said the last vegas roll that they made us wasn't cut right because the knife wasn't sharp enough so they re did it and gave us a second one. Both were just as good. The drinks were amazing. That sasaki margarita was one of the best I've ever had. Definetly worth eating here if wanting sushi that's fresh and delicious! The service was top notch also!!
google avatar

Elly G.

Yelp
Happy hour 4 to 7 pm. 5 dollars for beers and 6 dollars for sushi. Friendly waiter and right next to the scottsdale performance center. Food is good.
google avatar

Robert L.

Yelp
Absolutely Awesome Sushi and other Japanese food. This is truly the best sushi and rolls I have ever had in Arizona, and I have tried most of them. Highly recommend giving it a try. Prices are very reasonable and if you get there before 7:00 you can get in on some Happy Hour Specials.
google avatar

Ken B.

Yelp
I have to admit that I was hungry. Rolls were generous size and I got in on the happy hour deal at the bar. $6 rolls. Nice! $5 Sapporo big beer. Nice touch. Added the edamame with garlic, excellent touch. All in all I'd say I'm more than satisfied.
google avatar

Arnold T.

Yelp
Yummy! Or maybe we were hungry after a 5 hour drive. It's was very comforting food. Out of the 5 rolls, best one was the Las Vegas roll. It's deep fried. Drinks are good but not as strong as I would have preferred ;-) and I'm a light drinker so that's telling a lot.
google avatar

Nolan J.

Yelp
Hey guys my name is Nolan and I'm going to every sushi restaurant in Arizona. Today I'm at Sasaki Sushi and Bar The vibe and the wall art was good The edamame was below average. A little over cooked. The happy hour special was only $5 for a drink We got the California roll, spicy tuna, vegas roll, and the shrimp tempura. Overall the sushi, the vibe, and the drink specials were good. So Sasaki Sushi & Bar in Old Town Scottsdale I give it a 6.3 out of 10

Justin M.

Yelp
We have been to Sasaki several times now and it never disappoints. Food is excellent. Staff is always friendly and on top of everything. Pricing is perfect and not extreme like everything else in the world. We take family and friends here consistently. Great hidden gem in the heart of Old Town.
google avatar

Derek L.

Yelp
Great spot right in a hidden area of Scottsdale! We enjoyed the happy hour which was 4-7PM every day. We had sushi and enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant and bar, the sushi was fresh and the service was really quick! Everyone was so nice, definitely check it out!
google avatar

Alethea A.

Yelp
We had dinner here and it was not busy, which I like and service was fast. The location is perfect. Food was delicious and great for the price! One of my favorite sushi spots from now on.
google avatar

Terry B.

Yelp
It was decent. The staff was nice and the place was low key. Most of the food was good. They did however freeze their tuna which is a big no-no in my opinion and should never be done. Tuna nigiri was pretty gross as a result.

Justin F.

Yelp
Great food and great service. My favorite sushi place in Arizona. Happy hour from 4-7 and daily specials too. Good ambiance too with the ceiling decorations. Come here multiple times a week
google avatar

matt l.

Yelp
Off the beaten path in old town. Great draft beer list with crafts. Nice tv with espn on. Not the typical sushi bar feel. Sushi was ok. Fish was fresh but rolls could've been rolled tighter.
google avatar

Kira D.

Yelp
This place has great ambiance, service, (ask for Monica!!) and cocktails!!! Get the Monica sunshine cocktail, and repeat, repeat, repeat...u get the idea! There's not much to mention about the sushi here so I'm going to plead the 5th on this topic and let u decide for yourself if u feel inclined to try their sushi. Of note, if u ask my pup Kingsley, he'll say he was in sushi heaven! Overall, i had a generally enjoyable experience sitting outside on their cabana patio seating on a beautiful sunshiny Sunday afternoon; but because this is a sushi spot, I can only manage to give it 3 stars for its average sushi performance. Don't fret my Monica sunshine, I'll be back for u!!!

N A.

Yelp
Came for happy hour and place was empty. Gyoza tasted like Costco frozen appetizer. Wasabi had consistency of diarrhea. Sushi rolls were low quality and lacking flavor. Not recommending and not going back.
google avatar

Anthony M.

Yelp
Super awesome vibe with the cherry blossom decoré Service was meh, Considering there was only one other party of 2 there. Mainly came here for the Ramen was slightly disappointed in it The broth wasn't a classic usual tonkutsu flavor it was closer to a shoyu. But it wasn't bad The egg was flavorless and cold The noodles were alright The meat though was actually super flavorful it was very smoky and unique And the bao buns slapped Overall the Ramen was like at 2.5/5 And the bow buns were like a 5/5 Would definitely come back just for the bao buns
google avatar

Yelp
This is honestly a true hidden gem! The sushi it's outstanding, I wish I could give them more then 6 stars. Their Tuna Tataki is delicious and so My. Fuji. Can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Lissette C.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem, If your in the mood for sushi you gotta give this place try! We started with their happy hour specials and tried their seaweed salad, cucumber salad and edamame. All of them we're tasty and refreshing would recommend all of them. For entrees, we split the spicy tuna, spicy salmon, spicy yellowtail and salmon and avocado rolls. All of them were fresh and delicious but my favorite was the spicy salmon and yellowtail. Service was fast and friendly which what more can you ask and price was on point. Overall, I would highly recommend, food was great, service was fast and price was reasonable. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
Just tried this place for the first time. It was super empty so we got seated right away. I went during happy hour and was not sure what to expect because it was so empty and cheap. Tried the rolls and they were sooo good!! We also had 7 dollar sake bombs. There is happy hour everyday till 7 as well. 100% worth checking out. They also have a giant projector tv with the game.

Yelp
Honestly, I am very confused by all of these five star reviews for this restaurant. Unless we happen to just hit on an unusually bad day. Or maybe everybody is reviewing the drinks and the bar, rather than the food? Admittedly, I do not take time to write reviews on here, unless the food is particularly disappointing. I know that I ought to do better and take the time to rave about all the amazing restaurants I've been to across the country. That being said, I am taking the time to write this, which means the food was really not good. Most of the sushi rolls have spicy tuna, or spicy fish of some sort, which is usually a sign that the quality of the fish is not amazing. We were careful about ordering, and still found the dragon roll, and the scorched tuna to be extremely salty and quite fishy tasting. I have had gelato and allowed two hours to pass and I still have a very bad taste in my mouth and my stomach doesn't feel great. Additionally, our first order of Gyoza was so burned that we had to send them back and were told that the lady in the kitchen was new by our very sweet server. We did not get either of our appetizers until after we were completely done eating our dinner. The barbecue pork buns were also extremely salty and my daughter did not finish her order. Our server was amazing and the place was really cute. But the food quality and the kitchen performance were terrible. Hopefully this was just an off day because I can't imagine that my daughter and I are the only ones that have eaten hear that noticed the quality issue.

Yelp
I met up with 5 college friends on a Tuesday night. The waitstaff was quick, the food was great, and the drinks were excellent. We even had the owner (Frank) check on us a few times. It's a little hard to find since there is construction between the Art Museum and the Performing Arts Hall, but hey... less people means more for me! I recommend Sasaki for really good sushi at a great price - a sushi joint I can actually afford to frequent! We have returned once already and will return again.

Yelp
Looked for a place to eat on Yelp within walking distance from our lodging in the area. Our waitress was amazing and patient with us. I feel so bad that we can't remember her name. But a huge thanks! She was super friendly and made great recommendations to us. We had the King something roll, rainbow roll, and Vegas roll. They were all good. We also had spicy edamame. We also had mango mochi. The location is big and there is plenty of parking. If we are around in the area ever again I'd come here in a heart beat. Delicious, fresh and tasty. Worth checking it out you won't be disappointed

Yelp
*This is not a review on the food* HOURS ARE NOT TRUE. Walked in on Sunday at 3:40pm and the doors were locked and the signs on the outside said they were open. Online and on their window said open from 12-10pm on Sunday. Workers inside didn't have the common decency to speak to us and tell us that they were close. Instead they threw up a number 4, which I'm guessing meant open at 4pm but have the respect to tell your possible customers that there is a mistake on the times! Very rude and unprofessional.

Yelp
Wowza! Stumbled upon this new spot last weekend and decided to come check it out this wknd. Man, this is our new go-to for sushi in Old Town! Ambience - super nice, clean, and they have both indoor and outdoor patio seating. Decorative pink flower blossoms on the ceiling and a cool scenic mural on the back wall. Service - outstanding! We were the only customers until right before we left when another couple dined in. The three employees were all very attentive and went out of their way to ensure we had a great dining experience. Food - superb! I ordered a hot green tea and it was made fresh and had some sort of wonderful flavoring. It was probably the best green tea I've ever had at an Asian restaurant. The miso soup was warm and comforting. Crab rangoon appetizer was made with fresh crabmeat/cream cheese and the dipping sauce was flavorful. For sushi, we tried a Shrimp Tempura Roll and the Godzilla Roll. Both were excellent! We had every intention to order more but both rolls were so massive we were completely stuffed! The sushi chef gave us a sample of his specialty pickled, spiced jalapeño salad mix and it was sooo good! When I explained I was pregnant and couldn't eat any raw fish he was really understanding and said he could cook and prepare any fish the way I'd like it. He made sure to take his time and you could tell he really put some love into our dishes Quite impressed with this spot and I will definitely be back soon!

Yelp
This is a great place for some good happy hour drinks and food. The service is okay. They seem a bit scared to mess up? We had two servers helping us that kept apologizing if they didn't have something or get something right.. kind of felt bad for them?? However, the sushi was delicious. If it says it's spicy, it's going to be spicy.. these rolls definitely have more of a 'kick' than I'm used to but I enjoy that. Park in the free parking garage next door.

Yelp
We happened to show up during happy hour from open until 7 every day! It was a Friday so it was $4 well drinks! great deal. We got gyoza and miso soup, and the Flaming Dragon Roll which they sear with a torch!

Yelp
Came in an hour and 20 minutes before a show for a quick bite, ordered four items from the happy hour menu. 45 minutes later we're still waiting with only drinks arriving. We couldn't wait any longer, and the owner (?) got super nasty, said it he wait is actually normal and "This isn't a McDonald's." I paid for what we ordered, even though we never ate it, so maybe he should work on faster service that's next to a concert venue?

Yelp
Small place, and tucked away from the insanity of Oldtown. We got seated right away around 5:30pm on a Friday. They had a great happy hour still going (we got $7 sake bombers), ordered a couple appetizers and 3 rolls. Service was fast, funny, and welcoming. Great spot!
