The 38 Best Restaurants in Vancouver, Canada | Eater

"Sashimiya opened in 2020, tucked away on the bottom of Hornby Street. The ultra-casual, entirely sustainable, grab-and-go sushi and sashimi shop is sushi master chef Taka Omi’s first solo spot after leaving the Fairmont Pacific Rim’s RawBar. Fish can be sliced to order for sashimi from the chillers, and a host of Japanese grocery goodies are on offer too. There are no seats, so take your exquisitely made party trays, platters, and bentos down to the waterfront to enjoy picnic-style, or order for delivery. Must-try dish: Seasonal treats such as spot prawns or locally harvested uni." - Nikki Bayley

What a convenient spot for sushi and sashimi takeout! I hadn’t ordered ahead, but the shop had a nice variety of options ready in the refrigerator. The Hokkaido uni was fresh and absolutely amazing. However, the large sashimi lunch and seared scallop rolls were a bit underwhelming in comparison. I imagine ordering ahead for freshly prepared sashimi would make the experience much better.

We walked past this and were very interested to check it out. My mother who was visiting loved sashimi. Sashimiya is like a cute little corner shop that serves the neighbourhood, but they offered a good selection of sashimi. My mother chose octopus and it was very yummy for her. Reasonably priced as well! They also provided other items such as snacks. Just wished they had more snacks, but understood that they had a limited space. Would definitely come back if we are in the area again.

Google
Refreshing and high-quality authentic sushi and sashimi spot! I pre-ordered a sushi party tray two working days in advance, and was extremely pleased by the quality of the seafood, construction of the sushi, and value for price and portion. Staff are efficient and great at what they do. Store also has many pantry items/ingredients for sale, and many pre-made options. High recommend!

Google
For its value this is some REALLY amazing sushi. Operating as a japanese convience store Sashimiya is home to some of the best sushi i’ve had. The seafood tastes SUPER fresh and the flavours are amazing. Cannot get enough of this!

Google
Decent quality. What I would expect from the brothers of Japan. Price isn't great and the portions are small. Not tiny, but small. Not giant Chinese or Korean sushi portions but better quality. On Par with what Aburi Market would charge. No atmosphere in this place, some small Japanese grocery items that you can find at most Japanese grocery stores. Staff is a bit grumpy...

WHAT A HIDDEN GEM!! walked past and decided to go in on a whim. from the moment you enter the shop you can tell the seafood is fresh and the sushi rice is going to hit. picked up a ton of amazing tasting sashimi from their fridge + asked for some fresh sushi rice to go. shiso leaf + rice + uni... thank me later ☺️

Google
Quaint little Japanese shop with good sushi! We got a sashimi plate, and it was fresh and high quality. You can either order ahead or pick one up in the fridge there

Google
This downtown sushi spot is a true treasure, offering amazing, fresh, and super tasty sashimi and sushi. One of the standout features is the ability to pick your favorite fish sashimi in the size you prefer, and the staff will expertly cut and prepare it for you. We adore it so much that we visit every day when we're in Vancouver. Thank you for this incredible dining experience!

Yelp
This small convenience store packs in so many goodies. The nigiri is a fresh, melts in your mouth, and its quick. You get a lot for $31! The service is quick.

Yelp
Very good chirashi at a very reasonable price point too! The ginger and wasabi were excellent too -- that's how you know a place serving japanese is OG I did kind of wish that the rice is warmer.. it was kind of cold. All of the sashimi fish tasted very fresh. The shrimp was sweet too! Amazing! There's a bench outside that you can sit on if you want to eat your chirashi immediately.

Yelp
Beautiful, high quality, authentic sushi. We ordered takeout for Mother's day and Sashimiya was able to accommodate our lunchtime order for a party tray + 2 chirashi bowls by calling an hour in advance. The fish and rice texture were comparable to the sushi I had at Tetsu Sushi Bar! Each nigiri had the wasabi/yuzu/extra toppings incorporated according to the taste of each fish, like they do in traditional Japanese restaurants. My favourite out of the tray was definitely the aburi. Smoky flavour and melt in your mouth texture with the rice.
google avatar

Yelp
Remains a great spot for sushi and Japanese ingredients and goodies. I got their nigiri special for $15 - it was so good! The fish and uni were particularly fresh and the rice had a good texture.

Yelp
A small little special local grocer that is authentically Japanese has popped up on the West End. My friend showed this to me on the day where we were just walking around for a light lunch in the area. I love where it's located and that it is so convenient that it is right here in the west end. The cool thing is that you can buy a slice of fish and then ask the chef behind the glass to help cut the fish for you! It is so cool. All the meat they have are sashimi grade too and they are all instantly edible if you want. On top of that, they have a menu where you can order which is quite affordable. My plan is to order a couple of party platters and bring them to a house party in the future. It sounds so easy and it will be a great plan. I walked out with a chirashi bowl that day, and I needed to eat it as I was extremely hungry. They had a small seating area outside of the store to sit as well. A bench and a small little garden. Really this store you can pass by it without realizing it was right there. It is one of those hidden gems within the West End. Next time I'll be back with orders for the party trays and maybe here for some fish heads or groceries for the week! Love coming to these little authentic little grocers!!

Yelp
Eater Vancouver doesn't disappoint. A small takeaway only shop selling a limited amount of Japanese pantry staples, snacks, dried ramen, and incredible fresh chirashi bowls, nigiri sushi and and sashimi created by a seasoned sushi chef. It's not just any seafood either. All of it from sustainable fisheries (something heard again and again from our more eco friendly friends up north). The basics: - Rice - Short grain, gently seasoned so as not to overpower the seafood. - Seafood - uber fresh. Treated simply. Generous cuts. Two rolls stand out; "salmon aburi" and "gokujo". The first, made from the outstanding salmon from the province, topped with rich salmon, slathered with motoyaki sauce (kewpie mayo, mirin, lemon juice, sugar) before being heavily torched. The second, a huge maki roll made of various fish and pickles. Both hefty and good eats. The post brunch snack quality was solid enough that it warranted an uber eats follow up for dinner. The premium chirashi (chef's selection of in season fish including up end offerings like uni) a delicious cornucopia of fresh seafood goodness at a bargain price of $25CAD. Back it up by even more sashimi (chef's choice) from a large sashimi plate, $54CAD with more heavenly salmon for good measure. Note: Individual types of sashimi can be ordered and platters customized if visiting the shop. It's not fancy but it is a great way to enjoy the seafood of the area as simply as possible at a very fair price. Impressive takeaway.

Yelp
Found this place on Instagram. I made an order at the counter for 2 sushi boxes and it took 20 minutes to get ready. We also picked up a few things from the fridge. The quality of the seafood was really good. Steady flow of people coming in to pick up food from the fridge. It's so close to the beach. We picked up our food and reached the beach to enjoy our lunch. Highly recommend if you want to pick up items to DIY sushi at home or order something to take to the beach.

Yelp
Loved this little mom and pop shop. The salmon pressed sushi was delicious!! I can only imagine how delicious their other sushi rolls are.

Yelp
Small little Japanese Grocery store that serves sushi. They have to go sushi bentos. Loved the taste and quality of sushi here. You will have to take your food to go and eat elsewhere but food was delicious.

Yelp
$50 Medium combo - 4x octopus, sweet shrimp, tuna, salmon, mackerel, yellowtail, and (striped bass?). Overall very fresh, light on flavor, good value (tho the pieces a touch on the thinner side). No complaints tho, would come again! Small grocery store, friendly chef / employees, quick service!

Yelp
After my other favorite place for Aburi closed, this place has become one of my favorites in downtown, it is authentic. I get the salmon Aburi and it's delicious. It's close to our work so very easy to order and pick up as there is no where to sit, take out only. Highly recommend if you like torched sushi.

Yelp
Small Japanese groceries and fish store. Sashimi are so fresh. Has fish head for soup.I like coming to pick up sushi for quick dinner. Can order ahead from menu for pick up.
google avatar

Yelp
Sashimiya is the perfect spot to pickup sushi and sashimi to go. We got some tekka maki and an aburi salmon roll and enjoyed it outside. They were both fresh and delicious. Located on Hornby, on the way to or from the Aquabus to Granville Island. After spending high dollars at the (mostly) overpriced and overrated food stalls at Granville Market, Sashimiya is the place to bring balance back to the taste/quality/value equation... and all without the crowds.

Yelp
Came on a recommendation from a friend and order the deluxe chirashi don. Good variety of sashimi and other raw ingredients. Quality was fresh and portion was adequate. Price was a little on the higher side, but I didn't mind only because the quality was above par. I'll definitely go back if I'm in the area.

Yelp
Cute Japanese convenience store that sells snacks, instant ramen noodle bowls, fresh sashimi, and sushi. There are convenient grab-and-go rolls and sashimi platters, or you can order upfront to place your order to be made fresh. I got a fresh salmon aburi roll with avocado on the inside and seared salmon on top. Unlike a lot of restaurants, this place doesn't drench the aburi in sauce. Instead, it is a subtle roll that still has great flavour. For $9.75, this roll doesn't break the bank and is a more affordable aburi option that local sushi restaurants nearby. I also grabbed the chirachi don and was super impressed with the amount of fresh sashimi you get for $15.95. For the same amount of sashimi and similar quality, this is easily a $30+ chirachi don at a restaurant. Convenient, clean, fresh, and well-priced Japanese sashimi and sushi that's a bit of a hidden neighbourhood gem. Highly recommend you check them out - I will definitely be visiting back and often!

Yelp
This is a great grab and go sushi and sashimi establishment with a small grocery store of Japanese food products and a fridge full of an amazing selection of sashimi grade fish. One can order from the menu or pick up one of the pre-made rolls. The staff are incredibly friendly and greet everyone like family when one walks in. I tried the first four items on the menu. The presentation and taste of all were excellent and I quite enjoyed the Salmon Aburi Roll. It was a positive food experience and happy to recommend Sashimiya if in the 'hood and looking for take out sushi.
google avatar

Yelp
A small but very cute Japanese grocery store that also has a counter to make fresh sushi. They also have the same items for grab and go in their freezer if you don't want to wait. Even when made fresh to order, the wait was not too bad at all. I got the chirashi don which had a good variety of assorted fish along with the salmon aburi roll which was also quite good. If you're looking for delicious and quick sushi to go (there is no sitting area inside), this is a great spot to go.

Yelp
I was visiting Vancouver for a weekend trip and heard that this takeout sushi/sashimi place is an absolute delight, especially for a sashimi lover like me. On the first day, we got a medium platter, which included 7 different types of sashimi. Everything tasted extremely fresh and satisfied my desperate craving for quality sashimi, all for $36 CAD. I don't quite know what everything is, but salmon is my go to and was definitely my favorite. The fish on the bottom left and bottom right of my picture surprised me to be my second and third favorites (I think one of them is mackerel?). My first experience ended up being so good that I had to get a second helping. The next day, I helped myself to a full serving of just salmon for ~$20 CAD. I honestly wish I could've gotten another serving but was just too full from my other food adventures so had to call it a wrap with that serving. Would definitely recommend this place for any sushi or sashimi cravings. This place is also a convenient store for a lot of Asian products so please support them in that way!

Yelp
Adorable small Japanese convenience store that sells fresh sashimi and sushi. We went right when it opened and the chefs are behind the counter whipping up the fresh sushi for the day. I got the chirashi-don and the fish was succulent, fresh, and juicy. Great place to come to grab food on the go.

Yelp
No regrets! This roll costs 27.5$ (before tax) and I would gladly buy it time and time again! This was an experience in itself - the presentation was eye catching and the first bite confirmed my suspicion - best sushi ever! Even though there are a few Ingredients in this roll, everything paired so well together not to mention that every single ingredient was so fresh! A few cool things about this shop: it's also a Japanese convenience store (lots of Japanese snacks and ingredients) and you can buy fresh cut of fish and they will prepare it anyway you like from sashimi to handroll to nigiri style. I also got a green tea mochi and it was soft, chewy with lots of stuffing. If you can't pick a sushi place to try in Vancouver, make sure you put this at the top of the list because it will exceed your expectations!

Yelp
Finally I was able to visit this place. It was closed last time I was here. The small store was packed with people buying sushi and snack. They have freezers with frozen fish. The showcase has fresh sushi, Japanese snack, drinks. They seem fresh, all pretty reasonable in price. This is a takeout place, no table and chairs for dine in. I wanted to try their Battera, saba pressed sushi. My family ordered chirashi regular, chirashi premium, nigiri regular. We ate at home about 2 hours later and I was pleased they were still all very fresh. My battera was not too impressive but I still like the traditional way of these being made. Aburi sushi looked really really good that I was too full unable to try. They have the big platter full of nigiris and rolls and that's what I want to order next time.
google avatar

Teresa C.

Yelp
DIY sushi was absolutely a fun experience. Thanks to Sashimiya, whom gave us such a generous platter of ingredients, it made the meal so much better. Plus their hospitality was definitely top-notch. You really could make anything you want, and everything was super fresh. We really appreciate what a craft it is for sushi masters in hand-making each piece of sushi. The art of this cuisine looks simple but delicately complex at the same time. The elegance of the food, the quality of the ingredient, speaks for itself.
google avatar

Joanna L.

Yelp
I would say this place is good and fresh but pricey. It is a Japanese convenience store set up perfectly for sushi takeout. I suggest the salmon and uni sashimi. The chirashi is good too. I will probably try other items on the menu next time.
google avatar

Caitlyn C.

Yelp
CORE MEMORY. Take out bowl, go anywhere in town and enjoy. Quality of fish you get from this place exceeds any fancy sushi joint in town
google avatar

Lisa S.

Yelp
I have dreams about sushi from this place! I go in and instantly start drooling from looking at all the options. everything is perfectly made. the fish is so fresh and tasty. i tried the torched salmon roll and it was an explosion of flavours. I really enjoy the smokiness from the torch and the freshness of the salmon. I can't wait to try other stuff!
google avatar

Yelp
We stumbled upon this cute little sashimi store that had a wide variety types of sashimi and sushi rolls. It also had Japanese snacks and pantry items. We opted to try their sockeye sashimi and was pleasantly surprised when they offered to cut it for us (life saver) since we were going to enjoy it in our hotel room as a snack. The sashimi was lean and very fresh! It was my first try at sockeye and it was great! The owners were super nice and I wish I had more time in Vancouver to try out their other items. If you are in the area please check them out!!
google avatar

Robin L.

Yelp
Really small and authentic Japanese grocery market with ready sushi or made to order platters! We were struggling to decide on what to order but saw the premium nigiri platter being made and could not help ourselves. Overall a very good deal for sushi, but I have to say that this is a "the eye eats first" moment. The quality of the sushi is good but what really made the difference for me, especially from a sushi "market", is that the rice was done outstandingly. The perfect amount of vinegar and if you eat it right away, the perfect temperature! Can be slightly on the pricey side, I was expecting more toro for a premium platter. But still a great deal! PS, this platter is for 4, but we finished it ALL with just 2 people.
google avatar

Kelvin S.

Yelp
Eh. Had a premium Chirashi the other day but was disappointed. The fish portion was extraordinarily small. The spot prawn was almost thinner than my chopstick. There was no uni, as depicted in stock photos, and some pieces of fish were like scraps instead of a slice. The regular Chirashi cost 10 dollars less and the spot prawn was much bigger. ‍
google avatar

Kathy P.

Yelp
This is our go to Japanese grocery store for fresh sashimi. We pre-ordered a sashimi platter for 3 people which included 13 types of sashimi. We also bought some fish collars and Japanese pickles. What made this special was that all of this was wrapped up in a beautiful blue cloth and they added a bag of ice to keep everything fresh. This was such a nice surprise. If you look in their refrigerator, you can pick your choice of fresh fish and ask them to slice them sashimi style. They also add wasabi and ginger!

Yelp
Sashimiya @sashimiyashop is a Japanese grocery shop with varieties of snacks, frozen food, sashimi and grab & go bentos. I bought the - Chirashi Premium Don $23.95 Assorted premium sashimi deluxe rice bowl This was a delicious fresh sashimi rice bowl. Taste: 4/5 - Salmon Oshi This Oshi was a bit fishy as it came with the salmon skin. Taste 3.5/5 Yasai Kakiage (Vegetables Tempura) $3.19 - must-buy frozen items as it's only $3.19 for 3 pcs. They were very crispy after air-frying for 10-15 mins (about 5-7 mins each side) Follow me IG @eatisvibikki #eatisvibikki #vibikki #lovetoeat #sashimi #japanesefood #yasaikakiage #salmon oshi #chirashidon #uni #prawn #getinmybelly #fullbelly #yelpvancouver #dishedvancouver #foodcoma #instafood #instagood #foodblogger #foodbloggers #foodstagram #vancouverfoodies #vancouverfoodie #vancouverfoodieblogger #vancityfoodie #604eats #downtownvancouver #japanesefoodie #cameraeatfirst

Yelp
The sushi here is sooo good! Neat concept that is really convenient for people who want to pick up and go. It's a lowkey and unpretentious takeout/grocery store combo. You can either grab pre-packed sushi to go, or order with the sushi chef, and also grab some Japanese groceries while you're at it. The sushi we ordered was super fresh and the sushi rice was perfection. We ordered a chirashi bowl, the gukoju roll, salmon aburi roll, and tako salad. They were all super tasty but I would say definitely try the gukoju roll! The uni on top was *chef's kiss*. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Convenient location close to ferry station to Granville island. Wide selection of sushi, snacks and drinks to go.

Scott M.

Yelp
Best sashimi selection in Vancouver The chef always has new fresh from Japan selections that you find rotating for each visit Large sashimi platter is the way to go, about 10 types of fish and each 4-6 pieces, crazy value for amazing quality Any sashimi in their fridge they will always cut for you upon request The rolls are solid but we always go for sashimi or sashimi premium Small Japanese market with some nice items to choose from while they prep your sushi order
google avatar

Yelp
After a long day of touristing :) we went back to the hotel and had a drink and a couple of appetizers pre-dinner. So many great places to eat in Vancouver but didn't feel like going back out to eat. Naturally we perused Yelp for some ideas and saw sashimi ya and figured "why not"? Glad we did. Ordered the battera and medium sashimi plate and both were very good. I take that back - I thought the battera was the best I can ever recall having and we've had battera in Japan and many places in the US. Tasty fish and rice. Delivery by scooter to the hotel was quick and courteous. All in all - totally satisfying.

Yelp
Nice little Japanese grocery shop with sushi to go. Enjoyed their chopped scallops roll the mirugai geoduck in the premium chirashi was not the freshest tasting in my opinion today. Will try their regular chirashi next time. But then, I find it extremely rare to have decent not fishy tasting mirugai in Vancouver.. Uni sea urchin very fresh. Street parking in front on Hornby but remember to feed the meters as they are behind the bike lane.

Yelp
Sashimiya has become our go-to sushi takeout place in Vancouver! The fish is always fresh & prices are really reasonable. We always get the XL chirashi bowl ($25). It's perfect for sharing since there are two slices of each variety of fish. They also sell assortment of Japanese pantry items & snacks which is perfect to browse around while you wait for your food. We've also called in our order before hand for pickup, which was super convenient when short on time. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area!

Yelp
I was so excited to finally write a review for this newly opened hidden gem, opened by local celebrity sushi Chef Taka Omi, after visiting during their soft opening. Their simple, yet all encompassing menu features aburi, real crab california roll, bento boxes, sashimi platters and my favourite, Chirashi-don, all for an amazing price. So there's something for everyone if you're looking to please for a take-out lunch. The menu is also posted on their website. What's really unique about this establishment is that they also stock all the ingredients you'd need to make your own sushi at home. The sashimi filets in the fridge section are extremely well priced and fresh, including selections like Gindara Blackcod, New Zealand Snapper and Local Uni. During my visit, I got two Premium Chirashi ($22.50 each) and a Salmon Aburi roll. There weren't pictures up on the internet yet, so I was ready to be surprised and I'm glad that Chef Taka was ready to impress and didn't disappoint. The Chirashi was super colourful and hearty with its thick cut sashimi on a bed of Koshihikari rice. The selection the day I went was Uni, Crab meat, Ikura, Sidestrip Ebi, Ora King Salmon, Snapper, Aji Horse Mackerel, Ahi and Albacore and Tamago, but this changes depending on what fish comes in each week. The portion size was on the large side and did the trick to get me full. The Salmon Aburi ($7.95) also gets put on a baking tray and flame seared in front of you, so if you like a show you're in luck. The furoshiki presentation for wrapping the take-out seems to only appear time to time, but if you're in luck it really adds to the thoughtfulness of the staff there who are also very friendly. **There doesn't seem to free parking around, with the closest parallel street parking 2-3 blocks down from the storefront.

Yelp
I highly recommend this authentic and aptly name "sashimi house" for fresh takeout sashimi. Service is friendly, prices are fair, and food is excellent. 5/5 for their Chirashi Premium (XL): the assorted sashimi includes uni (which is not part of the "regular" chirashi). 5/5 for their Large sashimi plate: chef's choice of assorted sashimi that includes one piece of uni (which isn't in their "medium" plate). For two people, I'd recommend getting two Chirashi premium bowls instead of the large sashimi plate.

Yelp
- medium sashimi plate = $34.95 - - assorted nigiri plate = $14.95 - - salmon aburi roll = $8.25 - 《Chungry Rating = 8/10》 Premium sashimi ingredients, ready all-day for your next DIY sushi date!! ...no, I didn't make these, but you can drop by Sashimiya for your next sushi fix! Located on Hornby, between Drake St and Pacific St, Sashimiya is a quaint and convenient shop selling Japanese snacks, delicious to-go sushi, and premium sushi ingredients. Started by Chef Taka Omi, formerly from the Fairmont Vancouver, he wanted Sashimiya to be an accessible place for any aspiring sushi chef. Luckily, for people like me, he also sells sushi to-go, for all your sushi cravings. During my visit, my girlfriend and I picked up a few boxes to share. The sashimi plate was definitely the star of the show. It offers some classics, like salmon and tuna, but also has a few slices each of hamachi, saba, and ika! We also got their assorted nigiri plate and an aburi salmon roll. We were concerned that the rice would be too hard since it had been sitting in their fridge, but it was totally fine! Everything tasted great except for the uni. Not sure why, but it tasted particularly fishy, but everything else was . You definitely get the value that you pay for!! If you're ever in the area, I'd highly recommend you swinging by to check out Sashimiya. Whether you end up buying some sushi, or some other Japanese snacks or treats, you can be sure it'll be quality stuff!
google avatar

Veronica V.

Yelp
This is a great spot to pick up sushi to-go for a quick bite. However, I think the best quality-for-price options are the slabs of sashimi-grade fish in the cooler that you can take home and make your own meals. They also have a good selection of pantry items so you can fix yourself up a decent Japanese meal. I still go see Brian at Seafood City on Granville Island for his high-grade sashimi flown in from Japan, but when you're pressed for time, or have a tight budget, Sashimi-ya is a fantastic option!
google avatar

Priscilla Y.

Yelp
After reading so many great reviews, I tried out their large sashimi plate. For the price, the portion is not the largest but the variety you get and the quality of each cut is unbeatable! In our platter, we had some exquisite hamachi, kanpachi, Ika and spot prawns. This also came with a piece of uni, some red tuna, buttery tuna, tako and saba. This platter had some small shiso leaves as well which added an extra hit of flavour to the pieces of sashimi. Overall, we really enjoyed our platter from sashimiya and I look forward to returning for a revisit and to try out their chirashi don!

Yelp
Great to go sushi spot. Once you opened the door to this spot, the sushi smell will hit you in the face (not in a bad way!). This is a small Japanese grocery with daily fresh to go sushi. Quality is great and price is even better. My gf and I got the chirashi and ate it at Stanley Park as a small snack/lunch prior to dinner. Highly recommend coming here.

Yelp
This place is a gem!! I'm so jealous of people who live in this neighbourhood! Very fresh sashimi and sushi in reasonable price. 14.95 and you get 6 really good sushi. 12.50 and you get 1 big aji sashimi. I think if i feel like good sushi i should just go here. i'm so satisfied after eating. I feel really good about it.

Yelp
Decided to finally try out Sashimiya for the first time after seeing a recent promo available. There was quite a bit of a line an hour before they closed on a Thursday too right before I left so I think a lot of people were thinking the exact same! But the line is pretty quick as most have pre-ordered already. I ordered two Charashi. They have a good variety of sashimi in the bowl ranging from salmon, saba, ebi, tuna, and ikura. And it seems like they vary the type of sashimi here and there for the same order. Everything was fresh and plump! I can definitely use some more fresh charashi again here! Aside from the sashimi and food available they also have a small selection of Japanese snack, seasoning and sauces. I ended up getting a package of nori and a jar of Dori Spicy Chili sauce I heard great things about! Overall a neat little shop with a decent variety!

Yelp
Traveling in Vancouver and a must have is the sushi, so when we looked up places to try out and this hidden gem popped up. It's a small Japanese takeout spot and small food shop. We ordered the 6 pc nigiri + 1roll combo, the small assorted sashimi (15 pc), spicy salmon roll and a dynamite roll. All the fish was super fresh. I've been to tsukiji fish market in Japan and the sashimi is quite comparable. I love sushi but it's hard to find good quality for a reasonable price. However this place doesn't break the bank. The 15 pc sashimi set was only $19, rolls were under $10, and the 6pc nigiri plus 1 roll was only $23. Great prices, super fresh, actual Japanese owned, this place is definitely a go-to for sushi lovers. Oh and this place uses real crab, not the artificial stuff and the ebi was surprisingly sweet and melt in your mouth (as it should be. Most other places are bland). So good I'll be heading back there for 1 more meal before I have to leave the city back home.

Yelp
It's really good and a tad expensive but you get really good quality ingredients. This is where you come for good sushi. Tried the nigiri plate and came with the salmon aburi roll. Now this hole in the wall looks like a mom and pop Japanese grocery store but it carries all the ingredients (fresh and frozen) such as sea urchin, blue fin tuna, Japanese candy, udon, snacks etc. Service is amazing and there is always a wait as there are only 2 sushi chefs pumping out orders. Amazing spot and a real gem in the neighbourhood.

Yelp
A lovely little gem - tucked away in a residential street, off the busier (touristy) Davie St. We were looking for some legit, fresh fish and more authentic Japanese eats versus the run-of-the-mill sushi and roll places; and this was a great find. This is a store that sells various sushi-grade fish, sides, and other snacks, and grocery items. Run by a lovely staff of native Japanese folks, along with a sushi bar where the chef preps the fish and menu items. There are no seats here. This is a grab and go, take out store. You can easily eat in front on the steps or walk down 3 blocks to a lovely park like we did. Chirashi XL Sad that these bowls did not include Uni but overall, very good. While a good and overall impressive variety in the bowl, portion of fish is limited. (Mostly 1 piece each, along with some baby bay scallops, etc.) Salmon Toro We picked this up in the fridge section and they gladly sliced it up for us. Very good - reasonable pricing and delish. Sashimi Medium Good variety - better than average. If you don't need the rice, this will get you more fish than a Chirashi. We built a nice little lunch for ourselves with everything above, and by adding some avocados and extra sushi rice to round out the meal. A great option for getting creative, and getting a little bit of whatever you like at very reasonable prices - we will be back!

Yelp
Their sashimi/sushi are one of the best in Vancouver. I love ordering a platter which feeds 4 people. It's not on Uber menu, you have to order directly from the store. You can also walk in to buy pre-made sushi. They are always fresh.

Yelp
Super fresh, super fast, super fair prices. We were passing through Vancouver on our way to Whistler and wanted something fresh and quick. We got a chirashi bowl, a scallop roll and a salmon roll. $36 for everything. They were also super accommodating about making the rolls without sauce because gluten and eggs. Will be returning!
