"Mission Beach steakhouse Saska’s, open since the 1950’s, is now part of OMG Hospitality, which runs five restaurants in San Diego including the Union Kitchen & Tap locations in Encinitas and the Gaslamp, and is affiliated with Mission Beach’s Sandbar Sports Grill and the Fish Shops in Pacific Beach and Encinitas. OMG Hospitality founder Eric Leitstein was the winning bidder in an auction process that started earlier this year to sell off properties formerly owned by The Patio Group, which purchased Saska’s in 2015. The 2,740-square-foot restaurant closed on April 25 after being temporarily run by the Cohn Restaurant Group since last September. Leitstein has been dining at Saska’s since the 90’s, when he purchased his first property nearby — the legendary Canes Bar & Grill — and has remained connected to the area ever since. His corporate office is located blocks from the Mission Boulevard restaurant and three of OMG Hospitality’s eateries — Waterbar, PB Alehouse, and Backyard Kitchen & Tap — are just up the street in Pacific Beach. Leitstein, who named the hospitality group after his three children, intends to eventually pass the restaurant on to them, saying, ”We are excited to carry on the tradition of a family-owned steakhouse in Mission Beach.” Leitstein will wait until the dine-in ban has been lifted to reopen, but in the meantime he plans to warm up the restaurant’s interior and update its cocktail program. He says he will not be making many changes to Saska’s existing menu, even retaining longtime chef Francisco Barrios, who has been with the restaurant for nearly 30 years." - Candice Woo

"After a massive interior renovation, which was completed in early 2017, The Patio Group’s Mission Beach steakhouse is back and swankier than ever. The menu serves a variety of dishes, but the main focus are its steaks." - Jackie Bryant

A lovely little restaurant! The decor is nostalgic, our server Kristin was just the sweetest, the steak was mouthwatering and the cocktails were thoughtful and made well. Will def be coming back! Parking is kind of difficult but it's worth it.

Every cool area needs a classic steak house with a sassy male bartender (Billy) that appears to have grown up there, maybe not?, But he may have, we enjoyed all interactions with him. The food was great, service the same. Pours are good, quality all the way. See you again soon.

Comfortable ambiance. Delicious prime rib and potato (either baked or mashed). (The scalloped potatoes were made with blue cheese and I didn't try it.) Very friendly wait staff. Salad oddly served in a high sided bowl. The table height was about 2 inches too high making for awkward dining.

Best cocktail and steak HH! You can sit anywhere and get a $12 steak with a $6 cocktail. Go for the Mezcal. Still dreaming of the Mashed potatoes. Skip the ceviche.

When thinking old school steakhouse I expect a few things. One of those it a wait staff - - the bartender was covering both sides of the restaurant. He was focusing on his real job and I can't fault him. There was no one at the front door and I noted things were coming off the menu an hour before close. I wonder if I just picked the wrong night.

What were we thinking! We lived 10 blocks away for 6 years and had never tried Saska's? AMAZING! Just don't tell anyone.. . We don't want it to get too crowded!
