"Sassafras, part of Rodney Mayo’s Subculture restaurant group, highlights Southern-inspired dishes in an eclectic dining space just off Clematis in downtown West Palm Beach. Go for a seat at the bar overlooking the open kitchen to watch your double cheeseburger cooked to perfection under executive chef John “JT” Thomas." - J. Miller

Yelp
Quick little stop here for brunch. Our bartender Mike made it worth our while and was very knowledgeable! He definitely made us feel welcomed and we enjoyed our time here. If you want good music, food and service, this is the place!

Yelp
If I could give Sassafras a 10 * I would! We came to West Palm Beach on a girls trip and I had preplanned dinner for our first night. I spent a lot of time on Yelp (of course) looking through restaurants, reading reviews, and reading menus. Sassafras stood out! And to make it even better they had a Yelp special, buy a $50 gift card for $25 OR 25% off of your total. We couldn't pass it up! We went with the gift card. The minute we walked up, we were greeted by host Justin and I told him we demanded to have a fabulous night, just being playful and wanted to have fun, but he took it seriously, above and beyond! We walked us in, let us pick where we wanted to sit, and brought Erin over to us, our amazing and super sweet server for the night. She was so patient with our millions of questions! Every single thing we ordered was amazing. AH-MAZING! Mind blowing amazing! The watermelon salad with crispy pork was fresh, sweet, savory, crisp, hot, cold, everything. Every single one of your senses was touched! We followed that up with the pick 2 from the charcuterie and got the pimiento cheese and chicken liver pate. It was served with hot toasted baked bread, horseradish mustard, pickled green tomato, carrot, cucumber, and radish sticks. Again, they hit it out of the park! Thinking things couldn't get even more amazing, we got the fried chicken skins . . . I wanted to fight everyone at that table, I did NOT want to share!! (We shared every dish because we didn't want to take leftover to the hotel.) The gnocchi was INSANE! The mushrooms, the ham, the peas, the sauce, we used our toast to mop the bowl and make sure we gave them a clean dish. The macaroni and cheese was bubbly, toasty, cheesy, gooey, hot, delicious, and what cheese dreams are made of! We also got an order of the pimiento cheese grits . . . I used it as a dip for my chicken skins. Don't judge me, just trust me. Not pictured was the final dish, the fried shrimp sandwich, which had succulent shrimp falling off on every side. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect evening for our trip. The dining room is so cute, and so well decorated with so much detail in mind. I would be willing to take an annual trip to West Palm Beach solely to eat here at Sassafras. Truly divine! Chef's kiss is an understatement!

Yelp
We're visiting West Palm Beach this week and looked on Yelp for recommendations and Sassafras seemed like a solid choice because of the wonderful reviews and boy, were we glad we decided to come!! Justin was our host and he was all smiles and huge personality, one of the most genuinely sweetest people we have ever met. He asked us if we would like a table inside or outside he chatted with us and made us feel right at home and so welcomed to be there. The ambiance was absolutely fabulous, the table settings, the colors of the restaurant, the chandeliers and even the music was banger after banger. We totally loved the whole vibe of the space and were so excited to be dining here. Because we were staying in a hotel we decided to order a few appetizers and sides so that we wouldn't have leftover food that we would have to haul back to the hotel or feel bad about throwing away, plus it gave us the opportunity to try so many items on the menu and nobody was left feeling stuffed and weighed down at the end of our meal. We start our meal with the pork belly and yellow watermelon salad, all of the salad elements were bright and fresh, the watermelon was juicy and refreshing and the pork belly had an absolutely perfect sear. Next came the charcuterie with the chicken patè and pimento cheese, everything on the charcuterie board, the pickled green tomatoes and the accruediments were all absolutely lovely and the horseradish mustard made a wonderful accompaniment to that chicken liver patè adding a pungent savoryness to the richness of the patè. The chicken skins were probably one of the items that sent us over the moon, they were breaded and fried and came with an aioli I believe but we were all big fans of the chicken skin and of course the black truffle gnocchi was probably the star of the evening. Everything about this dish I felt like elevated comfort and love, the gnocchi were so tender and perfectly flavored with the sauce that didn't only include truffles but a variety of gorgeous mushrooms and bright peas. We did also have the crispy shrimp sandwich that I completely forgot to snap a picture of but the shrimp in the sandwich were huge and succulent. Every single item that we had knocked it completely out of the park, we were completely satisfied after the meal but not stuffed. I highly recommend visiting Sassafras anytime anyone is ever in West Palm Beach!!

Yelp
Came here for Happy Hour with a friend. We arrived around 6:20pm (Happy Hour ends at 7pm) so we were just in time. Our waitress quickly sat us at a cute table with the regular menu and the Happy Hour menu. The restaurant wasn't packed. One party sitting at an outside table and an almost full bar inside. She started with waters and vodka sodas. We skipped appetizers and ordered the double cheeseburgers with a side of fries to share. I also ordered a side of mac and cheese. The burger was delicious. I practically finished mine entirely. Juicy flavor and the sauce they put on the buns was super tasty. The fries were ok. The dip included with them had a nice flavor (I assume to be Mayo, mustard and ketchup mixed). The mac and cheese was seasoned nicely but something was off with the consistency of the cheese sauce itself. For my second drink I chose a tequila pineapple and ordered the key lime tart as dessert. The key lime tart was the highlight of my dining experience for sure! The drinks overall were just ok. The menu isn't complex so I'm not in a rush to try more items but I could definitely see this being a cute spot to meet a girlfriend to share happy hour wines and a charcuterie board.

Yelp
One of the best restaurants I have ever tried in Palm Beach County. Service was great, I enjoyed being able to watch the chefs cook in the kitchen. Something about watching your food be freshly prepared makes it taste better. I tried risotto for the first time & it was full of flavor !! So delicious. Honestly everything that I tried on the menu was 10/10 I can't wait to go back !!

Yelp
Fresh, yummy and light. I did the pimento cheese, a salad with chicken and the yogurt. Normally a breakfast yogurt has withered fruit and it is not filling. This was surprisingly full of fresh fruit and granola. There was a true assortment of true and the granola was tasty. Came here with a big party for a going away brunch. The Table also tasted the chicken and waffles and that was a large portion. The location of this restaurant is prime West Palm. The servers were all very nice and tolerant of our rowdy party. Not gonna lie, my favorite part was the vibe. It reminded me of cute little breakfast cafes when I visited Italy. Classic blue China, clean white lines inside and simple but timeless decor. Looking a Sunday or understated casual dining. You found it.

Yelp
Service was great. We didn't have to wait much once we arrived. They have lots of cute decors here. I enjoyed that the place was nice and airy. It was way too hot outside to sit out but they do have that option. We started with some sides cause hunger was catching up. Biscuit was warm and flavorful. The chicken and waffles took a while but it was super fresh. The butter on top was a bit overpowering and there was a sweetness to the entire thing that I didn't too much care for. Without that issue, chicken was awesome. Def check them out for some damn fine food.

Yelp
Awesome spot, highly recommend! We've been here twice and both times the cocktails were fantastic, and the food was outstanding, plus the service is always great and so is the ambiance. Try sitting at the bar and playing Ispy with the real life SimCity 'esque' village they've created under the plexiglass of the actual bar. So much fun. We've ordered a few cocktails here and they were all excellent (note: they change up them often too). We came for dinner once (via a Groupon they put out), and ate our heart out and then recently came back for brunch. (11am to 3pm on Sundays). This go around we had the chicken and waffles and the cheddar biscuits with onion jam). Holy cheese, the biscuits are incredible. They offered a mix of cocktails for $18 for brunch. I opted for the red sangria which was fantastic (very fresh with lots of fruit). There's a definite southern flare to the food, and they change the menu often, which is so fun. If you haven't been, you need to check it out! They have bar seating, as well as indoor and outdoor seating!

Yelp
I've been to Sassafras a number of times and finally am reviewing it. I always thought it was one of coolest bars in the Clematis Street area of West Palm Beach. It's at the mouth of Clematis Street next to the Splash Park. Sassafras has a cool ambiance with a bit of a laid back Southern feel and a hint of intentional design. I've always liked the miniature beach display scene built into the top of the bar. If you're lucky enough to find a seat at the bar during the busier nights, the lighted little figurines and toy cars behind the counter glass are definitely conversation starters. There's even a parlor game to try and find listed pieces, including a dinosaur and skinny dipper. Sassafras a great date and/or couples place to grab dinner and/or a drink. It's subtlety upscale while very approachable and easy-going. There are many craft-style, well made cocktails to choose from, and a good wine and beer list. It has friendly bar service and many delicious comfort food+ selections. We had drinks and blueberry cobbler for dessert which was excellent.

Yelp
We stopped in before the SunFest festival for the 2nd year in a row, and it was even better this time. it was a couple weeks ago and we were in West Palm a little early for the event so we planned a brunch at Sassafras We walked in to the pleasant vibes they put out. It has a isnad beachy energy with aqua blues, weather white colors, and a teeny tiny beach town imbedded in the counter of the bar behind Plexiglas(a must see). I started with the Flightless bird drink, a tasty brunch pick. I friend got the Gentleman Pirate, which had a nice island drink energy too. I ordered and got pretty quickly the shrimp poboy. It was very good, I couldn't have been happier with my choice. The bartender amazingly was making all the drinks with a full head to toe shark outfit. he was getting a bit sweaty but did it all with a smile. Impressive. I should add that service was fantastic. And its nice that its walking distance to alot of the good spots downtown. I think we may have to make this top in a tradition.

Yelp
Brunch was a 10/10! This place is right in the heart of downtown West Palm Beach , with great indoor and outdoor seating options! I came for a Mother's Day Brunch and it didn't not disappoint. The food has southern inspiration and every dish has lots of flavors! The chicken and waffles is a must order and the you can't go wrong with $20 bottomless mimosas, Bellinis and sangrias (you can mix between them all)! Our server was very attentive and provided great recommendations based on our preferences. We will be back to try dinner.

Ashley M.

Yelp
I've only had the oysters and cocktails. But when I say "only", that doesn't do it justice. The oysters are from a local farm. The cocktails are hand crafted to perfection. The server, Graham, was so knowledgeable about everything on the menu. I was/am very impressed. He shared about how the Chef focuses on seasonality, and local ingredients, which I very much respect and appreciate. That is so important to quality. The Oysters were fantastic, as were the cocktails! I'll be back!

Yelp
Dropped in to Sassafras on the whim for happy hour before Night by Clematis. Sat at the bar, was waited on very timely and the bartender also recommended drinks to me. She ended up making me a lemon drop and it was pretty good. Regarding the food, I started with the chicken skins! They were absolutely delicious and I wish I could eat some right now as I type this. The accompanied sauce was divine and the skins were super crispy. I also ordered the happy hour gumbo. I was hella disappointed in it. The bowl was super small, slightly on the dry side, and primarily made of rice but it had a decent amount of chicken in it. It was supposed to also have sausage, it had one or two little rounds. I asked the guy who brought it to me and he said that's normal. Boy bye.... Also, I know we're in downtown WPB which in my opinion lends to the older crowd, but I'd rather not have a lap dog being petted next to me at a restaurant.

Ally W.

Yelp
The service is always great here. The ladies who work there are very polite. Food is always incredible, we have been going for years and don't plan on stopping. Highly recommend if you're in Palm beach! One of my must go spots

Cookie S.

Yelp
LOVE sassafras! It's my go-to when people are needing a food spot. We've been there a few times and everytime it's like a new experience. Service is always amazing but the food is exceptional! Sunday brunch is always a great choice. Their drag show is hilarious and entertaining. A little naughty so I don't recommend anyone under 18. Definitely a must go when in the downtown area.

Michelle N.

Yelp
Cute little spot for brunch. Server seemed very meek, I could barely hear her. -- OYSTERS CASINO (3/5) - I appreciated the extra breading but it was way too much which made the app super salty. Parmesan is super strong, but the appetizer was good. -- KEY WEST PINK SHRIMP and GRITS (4/5) - I like that they give you a lot of shrimps but then there's not as much grits. The grits were a bit on the watery side, but I did enjoy the flavor and entree itself.

Misty P.

Yelp
Our experience did not live up to the yelp hype. We were so disappointed. The food was 5/10 at best. The service was just ok. It is a super cute place though and the location is great.

Dmitry L.

Yelp
Best steak and eggs in my life! Thanks to the chef for that. Truffle omelette is also nice. Vibe is chill, very very casual, no one in a rush, matching with Palm beach vibes.

Yelp
Can't say enough good things about this spot! Took a chance on downtown West Palm on a Friday night. Got lucky& got a spot in the parking lot directly across from Sassafrass! I'd give them a 6th star just because they took reservations! It wasn't packed when we got there after 8, but just the idea of a reservation seems to be a rarity in this area! We were greeted and seated quickly and with a smile. Our server brought waters to our table before he even said hello! ++ in my book! Even brought a cover for my little one's cup! The menu was great. Only wish there was some pork substitutes available, but beggars can't be choosers. We tried the Tempura Shallots on recommendation of our server, and it was delicious! Comes with a sauce that's suspiciously like CFA! My baby girl's mac n cheese came first & was piping hot! So worth the wait to cool. We all loved it. This is an upscale, cool-feeling Southern cuisine spot, and the chef did not disappoint! The Fried Chicken came with a vegetable mix that was just slightly pickled. I loved it. Hubby, not so much. But the chicken was cooked well, not too salty, steaming hot! My eldest raved about the Gumbo, & both my son and I got the Shrimp & Grits (mine sans the bacon). Just needed some corn bread to wipe out bowls up with, it was sooooo good! We will be back to use our Yelp coupon!

Haianny C.

Yelp
Food was delicious. Atmosphere was amazing. It is truly a wonderful place to have brunch.

Rome L.

Yelp
Comfort food but fancy? Service was great,Kristy was both friendly and attentive I came during happy hour to check some of the specials, I was heart broken that the crab brush puppies were no longer on the menu (full disclosure, they were 90% of the motivation for me coming). I ended up with the Malpeck Oysters, Crispy chicken skins, and gumbo. Oyster were good (hard to go wrong here), crispy chicken skins were delectable (and severely priced REWORD THIS), gumbo was just okay for me, the chicken it was solid, the sausage tasted a bit dry or over cooked, and the shrimp was good, i enjoyed the spice level as well. Presentation of everything was top notch, word to the , HH selections come in HH portions, so either chose HH items if you just want to peck or be prepared to order more/larger items to accompany. Started off rocky with a "floater" in my water ended great with a complimentary parent cleanser of Fruity pebble soft serve .. what a ride

Yelp
We went on the weekend for lunch- there was only one other table with people. The music is VERY LOUD and they did not have AC on- it was VERY warm inside. We order oysters and biscuits for our apps but we're alright. The biscuits came with a weird onion type jam. After our apps we waited a CRAZY amount of time. ( a 3 top came in sat ordered and got their food before us) I got the burger and it was NOT what was pictured on the previous Yelp reviews. There were a SERIOUS amount of seeds on the bun :( it was not great. I do not recommend this place and will not be back.

Kayla S.

Yelp
Popped by for happy hour and had a wonderful experience. The oysters were top notch and the service was great. You can tell there is a lot of pride in the dishes they put out.

Don M.

Yelp
Excellent place to eat! Flavors burst into your mouth with the pork belly salad! The HM Sourdough w/ one of the HM CHEESE SPREADS! Ending with keylime pie, so good! A casual place with a nice vibe, I Will be back!! The service was great &I like the location! Thanks for a great meal!!!

Yelp
Sassafras is a hidden gem in wpb. Cool ambience and a creative menu. The staff is very friendly. Unique spot!

Cassandra B.

Yelp
Ambiance and food were perfect. I had the seasonal beet salad and burger while sitting at the bar. Delightful all around experience.

Greshka P.

Yelp
Absolutely LOVED Sassafras!! Looking for a place to grab a bite right before SunFest, found this place just steps away from the festival's entrance. And they had brunch both Saturday and Sunday - Bonus!! Made a reservation, but since the bar was open, decided to sit there and it was so much fun looking at the beach scene they created for the people seating there. The rest of the restaurant is very clean and cute. Simple, with pop of colors with their light fixtures and art. And very beach, chill vibe. The bartender was working hard at making all the brunch drinks, but also very friendly and attentive to all at the bar. The menu is amazing, and hard to pick just one thing, but I decided on the Chicken and Waffles and was not disappointed. SO GOOD!!!! The Chicken was perfectly friend, crunchy outside, tender inside, and not greasy. Excellent flavor, and loved they add the scoop of butter with maple syrup to melt on top of the fluffy waffle. The Shrimp Po Boy was very flavorful too, and the fries we on point. The Burger was a perfect diner style smashed burger. They had bottomless mimosas, a strawberry spritz special, and great cocktails. Honestly a place I will keep bookmarked to visit again and try more of that delicious menu and good service.

Nanda M.

Yelp
So tasty! We ordered a bunch of things: Clam+Fettuccine, Rootbeer Ribs, Chicken Skin, Crab Squash Blossoms, Cheddar Biscuits, Banana cheesecake, and the Apple cobbler. Everything was delicious! I am still thinking about the onion jam that came with the biscuits. We also LOVED the crispy crab squash blossoms. We could just tell how fresh the crab was, not fishy at all! Whenever we have gone to a "trendy" restaurant like this, we have always been disappointed with the portion size, but not at Sassafras! We were actually way too full at the end of the meal and couldn't finish everything. Only thing I would critique food wise would be the desserts, they were good but not the best for us. We loved sitting outside (just because the weather so nice). Inside was a bit loud for us, and we wanted a more quiet night. Service was wonderful too!

Christina L.

Yelp
Solid southern cuisine! Wait staff was very knowledgeable and kind, they take pride in their farm to table fresh offerings. The tomato and strawberry salad had the sweetest strawberries. Liked the pea risotto and snap peas as well as the biscuits. Looking forward to going back to try more. I would recommend sitting indoors as it's open air so you get fresh air anyway.

Giancarlo A.

Yelp
Excellent smash burger and delicious fries. Actually was quite impossible to put down. Nicely done. Only downside is the bun needs more density or time on grill as things got sloppy real fast. Great bar service and location in WPB.

Bee L.

Yelp
I've been to Sassafras a couple times and I've always enjoyed my visits. It's a cute little restaurant and the people who work here have been pleasant. I think its cool that the kitchen is open with adjacent seating, but my server forgot about me when I sat next to the kitchen. Thankfully the chef took care of me. While I enjoy the food, the flavors have been a little off for me. One day I was craving a southern meal and I ordered fried chicken, mac and cheese, and greens. The food tasted good separately but not so great together, like a clash of flavors. If could just be my palate but I haven't experienced this before when eating Southern Cuisine. I also wish there was fish on the menu. I will likely return to try something different.

Tanya B.

Yelp
Went here today with my sister because we saw all the great reviews on Yelp. The atmosphere is cute and has a southern antebellum vibe/decor. They had a limited menu because they had brunch, which was kind of disappointing considering not everyone still wants brunch until 3pm. We tried the cheddar biscuits which were ok, but nothing to write home about. The onion jam that came with it was an unpleasant mixture of onion and sweet but the jam tasted more like onion. I'm not a fan of onions but I tried it because I always am willing to try something new. You get two large ones but the cost is $11, pretty pricey for some cheesy bread. After realizing that they couldn't do any of the dinner items, I reluctantly ordered an omelette. It was the black truffle omelette with mushrooms and various veggies. I asked if there was any cheese in it and they said no. What kind of omelette comes without cheese? I had to pay extra to get plain mozzarella y'all. I ordered extra truffle because most places don't give you much, and even the heavy amount of black truffle couldn't save this meal; the omelette had absolutely no flavor, and was extremely oily. I asked if I could get a different side besides the plain white toast and she said I could get hash browns but wasn't notified that it would be a $6 up charge. If I had known I wouldn't have ordered them, especially considering the quality. These were the worst hash browns I've ever had. They were drenched in oil, overcooked, and had again, absolutely no flavor. My sister got a chicken sandwich which they are known for and I had a bite just so I didn't review without having their signature meal. While it was very fresh and came out piping hot (too hot to eat), again it had no flavor except for the pimento cheese spread. It came with fries and a side of their pickled veggies (again something they are known for), and the pickled veggies tasted incredibly sweet and oily with no flavor. Pickled sounds like it should taste more vinegary, but no. All in all the service was ok, the atmosphere cute, but I don't go to a restaurant for what it looks like but for the food. The food was absolutely terrible and flavorless. I wouldn't recommend anyone go here because you will end up wasting $50+ on bland food, unless that's your thing.

Bob J.

Yelp
Came in on a Wednesday for their burger special and I wasn't really impressed by the burger. We had the chicken skins as an appetizer and they were pretty good a bit on the salty side but not terrible. The burgers are smash burgers but maybe a bit too crusted I could taste char on the outside and not in a good way. Oh and the special only applies to the burger so if you get burger and fries it's 18 bucks instead of the deal price. We finished the meal with a banana pudding cheesecake which was very good and we very much enjoyed that. The service was great our server was very attentive and polite. The ambiance in here was calm and easy to have a conversation. We'll come back to try it again since we've heard good things and are hoping this was fluke incident.

Jonathon F.

Yelp
We came here for my birthday dinner before we went to the Outlaw music festival nearby. They have great drink and beer choices. The burger was amazing, we heard other patrons raving about it too! And the baby back ribs were also very good! I wish we lived closer so we could come back, but unfortunately we are almost 1.5 hour drive away.

Madison C.

Yelp
I thought this place was possibly just being overhyped, but it is truly delicious food, great service, and solid atmosphere. We went for sunday brunch and everything was great. The gimlet was so pretty and more importantly, delicious. The sangria wasn't too sweet and was also enjoyably strong. The kimchi fried rice was fantastic: perfectly seasoned and savory. The PBLT was also ridiculously good with a yummy sweet jamminess that paired well with the pork belly. The service was also great, really nice and personable servers.

Gillian C.

Yelp
I went to Sassafras with a friend on a Saturday night for my birthday. We sat outside. It wasn't crowded at all, which surprised me. Our server was friendly. She suggested the biscuits, and as I know they're a popular item at brunch we ordered them. They sounded too good to pass up. I was disappointed when they arrived, tepid in temperature and kind of heavy and dry in texture. The onion jam and butter were good, however. I ordered the Island Boy drink because I saw someone else receive this very pretty blue drink, and I like rum. Good drink. Thumbs up. We both ended up ordering appetizers for dinner, oysters for my friend and a foie gras special for me (it was my birthday after all). I loved my dish as I very rarely have foie gras. The toast slices served with it were thick and went really well with the pate. The vibe was kind of quiet and just not as much fun as I'd been expecting. We were kind of bored and blah, so I got the banana butterscotch pudding to go and we each went home. The pudding was great company on my couch. For the most part, I enjoyed the food I did have and they didn't mess up anything (except the biscuits should have been warm -- I think?), but it wasn't a wow by any means.

Mark O.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. They have an amazing brunch! Great happy hour! Food is tight! Service is always on point! Great drinks. It's always got a good vibe going too.

James M.

Yelp
Good service , friendly staff, food was tasty and delicious. Place has a very nice vibe . It's got a New or leans feel . I had the cheddar biscuits and sausage gravy . It was tasty but gravy was too thin .

Megan Z.

Yelp
LOVED sassafras. Almost everything on their menu seemed to have some sort of unique twist, which I really appreciate. The Thirst Trap (their vodka cocktail) was very herb-y, I've never had a drink quite like it, and their steak tartare was made with cumin (I wish I knew that before we got it, I don't know if we would have otherwise; neither of us love cumin, but it was still a high quality appetizer). We also got the cheddar biscuits appetizer, which unfortunately I didn't notice until after the fact that my phone did not take a great photo of, ugh!, but I would HIGHLY recommend those -- they came with salted butter and a housemade jam and they were incredible. I got the black truffle gnocchi as my entree (it was listed as a small plate), and after my first bite, I literally verbally said, "holy sh*t." The sauce was just out of this world -- I wanted to lick the plate! My fiancé got the double cheeseburger, which he said was delicious, and he particularly liked the fries it came with. For dessert, we share the cream cheese doughnuts, which came with an espresso custard that was surprisingly light but super flavorful. The ambience is awesome, definitely a little funky and unique, and our waitress was so nice. Wonderful experience overall. Would recommend this place to anyone in the area!

Kelly T.

Yelp
We celebrated Galentine's day at Sassafras. It was perfect! I had the white sangria, and it was delicious. I ordered a brown sugar bun, and was not disappointed! One of my friends had the oysters and said they were delicious as well. We sat under the a

Yelp
AMAZING FOOD, The Atmosphere was beautiful and service was great! The menus was such a great list of delicious dish after another. Definitely going back! Brunch must for sure!

Yelp
Met up a two of my closest friends to have brunch the week before Christmas. This is a cute little space in West Palm Beach near Clematis that has both indoor and outdoor seating. Big tip- if you're going to sit outside, make sure you're comfortable roasting in the Florida sun. If you are not, I would suggest sitting under an umbrella, closer to the building, or inside. Initially, we were sat outside and it wasn't as sunny, but as the clouds begin to part, the sun began to beat down on us, slowly roasting us like a Sunday chicken for dinner. We went for the brunch, because we heard it was pretty amazing. The prices are a tad expensive, but that seems to be the case for everything nowadays. We ordered the pimento and cheese as a starter. The pimento and cheese itself was delicious, however, the bread rounds that were used to dip it were overly oily and salty, Like extremely salty. One of my friends puts salt on everything and even she said they were too salty, so that's really saying something. We opted to use the vegetables instead of the bread crisps. One friend and I split the pancakes breakfast that came with bacon and eggs, and my other friend ordered biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs. The food was good, but like I said, it's a little on the pricey side simply because of inflation and location. There was a drag show there that started about an hour and a half after we got there that day, and while it was fun, the music was so loud that we had to scream our conversation to each other. Along with several other guests, we asked them to please turn the music down, but we were told that they could not because that is the signal for the drag queens to come out. OK I can understand that but when the drag queens were on break for over an hour changing their outfits, the music still didn't need to be blaring so loud that the silverware on the table shook. The show was fun and the drag queens were amazing but they will absolutely ignore you if you do not tip them so keep that in mind if you want a picture of just generally interaction with them. Our server was simply awesome and we tipped her almost half the bill. She was really the best part of the entire experience. I wish I knew her name to publicly acknowledge her. I would consider going back here again in the future. I will definitely make sure the next time that I go to see if there's a drag show that day as well and if so, I will ask to be seated farthest away from the speakers ha ha.

Yelp
It was a quick drop in because we were heading to a cruise. This restaurant is towards the end of Clematis and it's def a gem for the area. I loved my smash burger, it was so juicy and perfectly made. The sauce was yummy and loved it. The decor is pretty and has a very cute cottage vibe. Lots of great lighting. We had to sit outside because we were a party of 4 and it was full inside but the service was fast and take long to get our food.

Yelp
If I could put a picture of all the amazing food I've tried here, I would. Truly a great find with excellent service. The place is clean and cottage/beach like decorated. They now give a discount to go to Camelot across the street after dining. We didn't get ice cream this time although we saw other tables did. We also were disappointed to hear the drag queens don't come anymore!

Yelp
My husband and I are still trying different spots and Sassafras will not disappoint! We went on a Wednesday night and had the smash burgers along with fries. Best burger hands down... made with brisket and sirloin. We also enjoyed the beers for happy hour, half price, as well as a mango daiquiri which I didn't care for. Our wonderful server Tara took it off our bill which was exceptional generous to me. The atmosphere along with cold drinks and great food! We would definitely recommend for a night out.

Yelp
Drag me to brunch was amazing! Great location, delicious food and lots of fun. We got the chicken and waffles, eggs and bacon and salad with chicken. Their speciality cocktails are yummy also! The cucumber spritz was my favorite.

Yelp
Food and service excellent. Our server was stellar. Environment was very tight and noisy. The tables were a bit too tightly placed and it was difficult to navigate pass the tables. The place is cute and it is interesting to be able to see the chefs cook but the middle row of tables should be eliminated, in my humble opinion. However, it was a very wet, coolish, and dreary day and it is possible they may have brought their outside tables inside to accommodate guests in a dry and warmer place. Advise to eat outside on a sunnier day. Food was very yummy and beautifully presented. Food 5 stars. Service 5 stars. Ambiance 4 stars due to very high noise levels making it hard to hear companions speak and difficult to walk between tables but I wonder if the crowding was due to the poor weather requiring outdoor tables be moved indoors.

Yelp
Wonderful happy hour with delicious hamburger and cocktails. Our waiter was terrific and it was his first day working there.

Yelp
Our inaugural visit to Sassafras restaurant left us utterly impressed - a solid 10/10 rating for this hidden gem. Although the name of our server escapes me, she was a seasoned, mature lady, and our visit took place at 11 am. The food was exceptional, the service impeccable, and the ambiance truly unique. We are already looking forward to returning; my wife particularly enjoyed her Mother's Day brunch. Thank you!

Yelp
We sat outside and had a great dinner! The hostess was friendly and our server was fantastic. She knew the menu so well and she made great recommendations for us, knowing it was our first visit. It happened to be happy hour so we order a bunch of small dishes to try a variety of what they had! We started with the pickled veggies and they were pretty good. They had things like peppers and carrots which made it unique. We followed that with the cheddar biscuits and fried green tomatoes. Both of these were so delicious that we ended up ordering more tomatoes! The biscuits were big so we didn't need to order another round. For our last picks, the server suggested the burger, fried chicken sandwich, and mac & cheese. We cut the sandwiches in half even though they weren't huge because they were the happy hour version. I loved it all and couldn't believe how reasonable the price was. Granted, all of the things we ordered were on the happy hour menu. Then with the check, we each got 2 mini ice cream cones! I loved the maple flavored one but I hate coffee so I didn't enjoy the coffee option. Overall, cool spot although parking is expensive! The dining room and bar area looked really cool so we would check that out next time.
