The Best Restaurants in Ozone Park and South Ozone Park Queens | Eater NY

"Three blocks down from Dar Al-yemen, locals make their way over to Satguru Sweets for its samosa chaat, filled with fresh cabbage, carrots, bell peppers, onions; chole bhature, a pairing of chana masala and fluffy, fried leavened puri bread; and palak paneer with corn roti; and other home-style northern Indian vegetarian food. As its name suggests, hundreds of colorful, housemade sweets like barfi milk cake; round, crumbly peda cookies; and flaxseed pinni balls line the glass counters. There’s also a crunchy snack bar where guests can mix up fried lentils, chickpeas, masala roasted cashews, salted matthi wafers, and garlic sev sticks from fried gram chickpea flour. Satguru Sweets is the rare NYC spot with a traditional kulfi machine that holds dozens of long, skinny, nut-studded rockets of the milky ice cream." - Caroline Shin

Google
I saw a lot of reviews mentioning bad service, and I figured, how bad could it be? Well… they were right. The girl behind the counter had such a bad attitude, like she didn’t want to be there at all. Feels like she might be the owner’s kid who’s just over it. As for the sweets—they were just okay, nothing special. A few bites into some of them, and I didn’t even want to finish. Some tasted off, others were dry. Definitely disappointing. Between the lackluster desserts and the unwelcoming vibe, I’d say skip this place. There are much better options out there. 👎

If you want yummy Punjabi food stop here. Paneer pakora are amazing. The mathi is wow. The sweets sooooo good. Order ahead if you’re in a rush and great prices too. Hidden secret for the past 20 years

Very good service and taste of food

Google
Awesome experience. The Chole Bhatoore and Saag with Makki roti were the best I have ever tasted in my life in India or America. Staff was very friendly and polite.

Google
Ordered food for 50 or so people. Food was good. Mostly vegetarian, had to go pick up. Prices are the high side, but competitive to other restaurants in the area.

Google
I dont understand why I always get food after 8 customers get their food who came after me and placed order after me inside the store not even over the phone thats is also I have to remind you for my order apart from that one of the girl never pack politely and you should stop sending customers back for payment issues more than 10 policy charge them 3 dollar extra and give cash back there is one girl who is so co operative and polite but I waited 45 min or maybe be more. Aftee that also i ahve to remidn to put stuff inside else if i walk away without checking there is no chutney inside for both orders. Give one by one by turns to customers.

Google
I never review anything but this time they made me to do it,, so first of all, staff behavior they need to fix it, and 2nd thing i order stuff for like 9$ and the girl in the counter she said in the rude behave ( dass (10$) toh thale card nhi vajega ) even that’s fine if u policy that you charge 10$ atleast on card , but atleast she should be polite,,,

Google

Yelp
A good restaurant with tasty vegetarian food. I recommend the puri specials & samosas. Only wished the staff were more attentive and helpful. You have to ask for chutneys they don't give this openly as other desi restaurants.

Yelp
Such a shame that I have waited this long to actually try their food. Previously I've tasted their Chai tea & a few sweet treats. But if you're like me & watch a lot of Mark Wiens videos this place might satisfy your cravings. Keep in mind this low key restaurant is VEGETARIAN. I ordered the Channa Puri (aka Chole Puri). So delicious! Amazing quality and extremely flavorful! In my experience, the service was quick. The restaurant is also very spacious, so eating there was an overall nice vibe.

Yelp
The place is ok for the food as it's only $6 for one plate. It's sort of buffet buy you have to order it at once. 4 Roti and two vegetables and salad and pickle and yogurt. It's all you can eat at one time. Customer service is little weak so as the wait time. But food quality is good for VEGERAIAN PEOPLES only.

Yelp
45 minutes for 1 paratha because they are busy with catering. Don't go starving there. I give my words, you will lose your appetite.

Yelp
Worst customer service! I placed a large order for pickup, almost $100 order. It was for a family gathering. When I unpacked everything to start serving, the saag was missing. I ordered a large order of saag. I called the store immediately, and spoke to the manager. He said he would "check the cameras" to see if we really received the saag or not. We ordered food worth $100, why would we lie over $9. That was so outrageous! But we said okay, check. There was no saag in the bags so he would see that on camera. He said he'd call in a few minutes. Around 20 minutes passed and he didn't call so I had to call again. He still had not checked the cameras. I told him I wouldn't lie about something like this. Still he was insistent he had to check first and would call back. I couldn't go back to pickup the order or speak in person as it was the middle of my party, and everyone was having dinner. Plus this shop is around 20 minutes away from my house by car. And they wouldn't deliver, which I didn't expect them to either. But I didn't expect them to treat us like liars. Around 2-3 hours later, I got a call from a lady at the shop. She said the saag was in fact left out, and that I could come pick up the order whenever I had time. She took my name and number. It was such a headache to come to this point. I thought it was done but NOOO... Then around 30 minutes she called again! She said they could only hold the food for 2 days. We ordered on Friday, and she said the pick up deadline is Sunday. This was just beyond ridiculous! I told her I could not come during the weekend. We had plans. And it's not like I pass by that area. I would have to go there specially just to pick up. I said I could come on Monday. She spoke to the manager and said No, he said Sunday is the last day. My experience dealing with these people was just ridiculous! I had already paid them for the food. They saw on camera that some of it was left out! And they give me only 2 days to come get it when I said I couldn't come those days. And why is there a deadline! I ALREADY PAID FOR IT. This just goes to show that they don't give a sh** about customer service. They already took my money, they don't care if I get my food or not. But they don't understand that now they lost a potential repeat customer. As I told them, I couldn't pick up. Waste of money and waste of time. The food was average. The tandoori roti was under cooked and extremely dry. Won't ever be going back! DO NOT RECOMMEND! And if you do order, check everything in front of them before leaving!

Yelp
The sweets aren't the freshest in town however, the kitchen is run by actual punjabi aunties who make hand tossed rotis to order and fresh vegetarian curries daily. The food is healthy, clean, and damn close to homemade. Personally, I enjoy the samosa chaat, mixed vegetable curry, palak paneer, and pakoras. The kulfi is bombbbb and it is the most authentic I've had outside of Pakistan. The prices are very low and the overall experience always leaves me satisfied. Keep up the good work!

Yelp
Worst service and even worse the wait for the food. I mean how long should it put together already ready food. We ordered samosa chaat and papdi chaat. Took 40 mins. No apologies no regrets. Shittiest papdi chat and samosa chat that ever went in my mouth. This was the second time I went there but food quality had dropped significantly. Y'all ain't gonna see my face again!

Yelp
I would defenitely give them four stars. I like the food, it came so fast, less than 10 minutes. I ordered Garlic naan and vegi manchurian.. Eww its so yummy. The only thing I dnt like is their Ginger tea that I ordered. They have plenty of sweets

Ulpa S.

Yelp
The food is ok ..... although the staff is very rude. Poor customer service or maybe they are selective who they want to be nice to. I was there 20 mins before the closing time and they refused to let me dine in. Never had this kind of a treatment before. Although another guy guy who stood next to Me was allowed to eat in. Would never recommend this place to anyone due to the bad customer service.

Yelp
We had a 80 people Paath at our home and the food was awful. Not only was it too spicy for most people, but the lack of salt was equally disgusting. The people may have been nice however, if the food is atrocious the business model doesn't work! We will not be catering from them again.

Rapinder S.

Yelp
Their sholle bathure and somasa chats are great as someone mentioned before their lassi is too watery and prices are little higher compared to the others in the area but still great... just the front lady could be a little better dealing with customers.
google avatar

Sasha P.

Yelp
Heard the most wonderful things about the samosa chat, so since it's 2 blocks away from me I decided to stop in and give it's a try. The ladies are very helpful here if your not sure what you want to eat. The chat was so fresh, filled with fresh cabbage, carrots, bell peppers, onions amd their special sauces...the smell was amazing.
google avatar

Gino S.

Yelp
Tried their chole bhatura, they were ok.Had their lassi too.It was too watery. But their sweets r really good and they have a lot of variety of sweets.Their matti is also very nice. All in all it's a good place.
google avatar

Monica S.

Yelp
Awesome food but very poor customer service, two ladies at the counter never smile, very rude. I go there very often and every time I feel like they do not want me there. they keep staring in a very rude way. I am usually away for 3 or more days so I keep going back for the food which is just like a very delicious home cooked meal. If the food was not good, I would never go back. I give food a 5 star but 0 for customer service.

Yelp
Come here my fellow foodies. Come here for one thing. Come for the Somoza Chaat. I'm not sure if it's on the menu since I always go with a friend of mine who speaks the native language. Okay, so the Somoza chaat. It's spicy and savory. We have had it for breakfast and for an afternoon snack. It's a brilliant dish. It's destination food. Also, across the street is a Kabob joint that is also top notch.

Yelp
I personally love this place and go out of my way to come here. The place is run by Desi aunties which is why the food tastes homemade. I had to wait a little while for my order because they were working on a large order for another party. But once I got my food I was very satisfied, they give a great thali deal I believe I got paneer, dhal, dhai, rice, salad and two rotis for about 7 bucks. The fresh made roti is what really made the whole meal but the food overall was very good. They're papri chaat is also very good (special ingredient: pomegranate)! Oh and of course can't forget about the chai (tea). Great spot for lunch and indian sweets. I would order ahead though if you are in a hurry.

Mitashi S.

Yelp
They are worst place to go to for good quality food. They don't know how to make good food and also they don't care to talk nice with their customers. We bought chat from them and what I got was yogurt(Raita) and 5 papuries of count without any chutneys or anything in it and when we complained to them instead of listening and saying sorry the owner was being completely rude to us. Very nasty attitude. I would not recommend anyone to try their food
google avatar

Rahul M.

Yelp
Terrible disgusting food! Ordered shahi paneer and rice. Got a watery curry with crumbles of paneer pieces and stale rice. Too much oil and bland curry taste.
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
Place sucks. They are bias people., the ladies would serve their own kind people first & others are waiting., food is too spicy & taste horrible. I walked in first , they serve the Indians who came in second & I had to wait 25 mins for my food.
google avatar

Yuvaraaj J.

Yelp
It's alright when you need a quick meal. Not a place you wanna go taking time out. But then, it's clean and old fashioned, two plus points there. Stick to basic punjabi food only.
google avatar

Vishesh S.

Yelp
Best Indian food in NY. Superb place for Paranthas, Puri, chole & halwa. Everything is fresh from lassi to daal etc. They have good service. Highly recommend it.
google avatar

Donmon S.

Yelp
Recently discovered this restaurant even though I have been lving in the area for quite some time. Place is immaculately clean and everything seems to made to order. Menu changes daily and is written on a blackboard. There are no written menus available. Lady who served me seemed nice enough but prices seem to vary by clientele. Had three different people I know order the same item and got three differebt prices on different days. All in all food was inexpensive but food qulity and taste was very good. Samosa chaat was best I ever had.
google avatar

Gary B.

Yelp
Good place if you want to grab a quick meal, it's not fancy place but food is really nice and most of the food is made fresh. It's clean place i usually order to go. I will recommend to try samosa from these guys.
google avatar

Richie H.

Yelp
Two stars because their food and sweets are average to edible, nothing special. But their service does not exist. Very bad customer service. And they are also racial against the West Indian community; if you're not East Indian what West Indian they automatically treat you with less respect. Been there enough times to know this is true. For example I called in a simple order to be ready for 6 PM and it was not ready until 6:40 PM; and it was called in three hours in advance... And it was for samosas!

Rabia J.

Yelp
Best place to get fresh samosa chat and for cheap price.

Veronica S.

Yelp
They have a variety of Indian sweets and Indian food. They are prepared daily, and speak mainly Hindi and Punjabi, too much English can be an issue. The prices are relatively good.

Onkar S.

Yelp
Bad attitude toward costumer. No customer service at all. And most of all overpriced. I remember this place used to be packed and no wonder it's empty now. They did a make over of the place but in dire need of attitude make over.

Sonia K.

Yelp
This place has really good vegetarian Indian food. Its the only place i like compared to a lot other indian sweet shops. They have really good pakoras, and chole bhature. Only problem is they take forever to bring your food, but if you want fresh quality food its worth it. the aunties seem cranky but they get their orders right.

Priya T.

Yelp
The four stars is for the food only. The service is horrible. The aunties working behind the counter is busy filling boxes of sweets, that when they find a second to lift up their head and take an order, they have an attitude. Stopped by for lunch today and had to wait at least 10 minutes before someone could take my order, all the women behind the counter are busy running in and out of the kitchen. Finally, a woman took my order and I had to repeat it at least 4 times before she understood. The owners or management should really pay attention to these comments and hire more people who understand English, not just Punjabi/Hindi. The wait is about 15 minutes for the order and, the chai was ready after we had finished out lunch, I did place the order for Chai when I placed the order for the lunch tali. I asked them twice during our meal if the chai was ready and they said no, meanwhile people were walking in from the street and order Chai and walked out with a cup in hand - their service needs improvement badly. The only nice thing is the food is tasty and reasonably priced. There are other nice places in the area where food and service is good. If you have time to waste and want bad service this is the place for you.

Jeet S.

Yelp
The people behind the counter are very rude. It's like they are doing you a favor. Forget about any greetings or smile. I would not go back there. They got my order wrong twice. There is a new Indian restaurant just opposite of this place, people are much nicer.

West I.

Yelp
Worst customer service!!! Don't bother going there..first of all the woman that answers the phone speaks NO ENGLISH!!! So when asking for directions she either hangs up the phone on you or put u on hold until she can find someone there that can speak English.. Second of all the woman by the counter (most probably the same one that answers the phone) is sooooo unpleasant and unfriendly..she keeps giving us nasty looks...mind u there was not a single customer In their restaurant on a Saturday evening...the prices are much much more expensive than every other indian restaurant...overall the experience wasn't nice At all...don't waste your time going here...there's tons of other Indian restaurant on every block where the food not only taste the same but they appreciate their customers and are much nicer and more accommodating.....if I can rate them minus 10 stars I would....the service was simply horrible and the food tastes in different from every place else....
