12 Essential Twin Cities Sushi Restaurants

"Sato Sushi & American Fusion serves kosher sushi — the extensive menu features everything from vegetable rolls and cooked rolls to classic sashimi to specialty rolls (not to mention sushi boats for large parties). There’s classic American fare on the menu, too, like burgers and a grilled chicken basket, and really, the whole place is certified kosher." - Justine Jones, Eater Staff

Sato is simply marvelous! The owner is the epitome of a Mensch! Visiting the area for work and arriving 45 mins before opening - he invited us in from the cold to wait. Service was tremendous, portion size HUGE, food was fastastic, and the people just heimish. I highly recommend for all! Shlomo

Google
One of the best restaurants I've been to. I got the Cowboy Burger, it was a very interesting and tasty burger with mango habanero pulled beef. The waitress was very nice. Had electronic tablet menus.

Delicious Flame grilled burgers with aioli sauce and crispy homemade Fries! Sushi was fresh and so tasty a nice diversity of House Special rolls. The Melting pot dessert so yummy and all this food & Kosher too!! The best I’ve had in the Twin Cities ( and I am formerly an East coaster). So Please check it out!

Food was very good! The service was great! Only one problem, the appetizers came with the mains, oh well… it was a great experience and really recommended!

Sato is the best restaurant in Minnesota! The vibe is relaxed and pleasant, the food is fantastic and delicious, the service is rich and courteous, and the price is responsible and worth every penny. I highly recommend you to come here and have a good time!

Evening was delicious and flavorful! Portions were generous, prices are reasonable, ambiance was very nice, yet still family friendly. Service was excellent! We especially loved the extra touches of chilled glasses for the beverages and chilled plate for the salad!

We had the best experience at Sato Sushi! Great service, wonderful sushi, and the fried Oreos with berry sauce for dessert were so delicious! Everything was beautifully plated, good portion size and we just loved it! We will definitely be back.

First visit, and it should only get even better from here! The miso soup was sweet with a kick (order spicy.) The vegetable tempura was definitely a two person portion, possibly three. Finally, the seaweed salad presentation was vibrant - and a sensory journey. A delicious addition to the neighborhood!

Yelp
No, very bad. Mushy rice, rolls not fresh. I am just writing this note to remind myself not to come here again.

Yelp
I'm glad to see a kosher sushi restaurant, and think it has the potential to be a good sushi restaurant in general. Sato offers a large menu of sushi as well as American food options, attractive modern decor (complete with a large mural of the New York skyline), and accommodating service. I tried the whitehaven roll, Honolulu roll, and veggie tempura. The rolls had good flavor, but the Honolulu roll was loosely rolled so each piece fell apart when picked up, and the fish was so cold that it was jarring to the mouth. The veggie tempura was attractively plated and had a nice crunch and good flavor. The dipping sauce was tangier than I'm used to, and the tempura was a touch oily, but the dish was good overall. For dessert, we ordered the tempura banana. The banana used was way too green, so it was still a bit hard even when fried, and also coated the inside of my mouth. The dessert would also have been better without the artificial strawberry syrup drizzled on top. I knew this was a fusion restaurant, but was still surprised that almost every roll had tempura flakes/crunch, cream cheese (non-dairy since it's kosher) or both. And many of the rolls felt very similar with the rest of the ingredients. But they happily accommodated my request to omit the crunch, and offered to make other changes as well. The restaurant is still undergoing changes : the menu is a stapled pack of copied papers), the servers are still learning the menu and offerings. It's a great addition to the area and serves the Jewish community well, and I look forward to its success.

Yelp
I had dessert at Sato. "Melting Pot". Delicious! Warm Ramiken cup of melting chocolate cake with a warm cookie on the bottom (containing Peanuts). This is paired with non-dairy ice cream, drizzled with chocolate, and caramel sauce, and non-dairy whipped topping. The rich, chocolate cake has a warm, pudding-like chocolate center with either cookie dough or a warm cookie on the bottom. This is the definition of a good dessert to finish off a great meal.

Yelp
The sushi and sashimi is the best in the Twin Cities. The service is quick and friendly with the ability to answer questions on the menu. The food is fresh and high quality. The ambiance and atmosphere is a nice causal setting for neighborhood locals. My goal is to try something new with every visit.

Yelp
The food was amazing and I can't wait to go back. Staff were friendly and did a great job helping us order. A refreshingly interesting menu. Dessert was awesome too!

Yelp
Finally a kosher restaurant in the Twin Cities with great food! I don't keep kosher but wanted to try the restaurant to support the community and to support local. We ordered three different items to share. The crispy rice with tuna, Honolulu roll and the orange roll. All really good. We ordered too much but enough to bring home. I will for sure go back and order a whole different selection of items. It was really good!
