Satomi Sushi

I grew up going to Satomi a good 20+ years ago, then ended up moving out of state about 5 years ago. I came back for a visit, in the mood for some serious sushi after a Mission Peak hike, and oh boy was Satomi just as good as I remembered it. Not only were the rolls delicious, but the service was incredible. UE was quick, attentive, and very friendly. The sushi was good, beautifully presented. The jalapenos were hot tonight. It is busy. We lucked out and had no wait but we did see people have to wait outside after us. The servers are hard to catch because they're busy, but they're good. However the kitchen is forgetful. We ordered gyoza and agedashi tofu. But we had to ask for them 3 times! Also it's stuffy in the back corner with no AC or air circulation.

Satomi - Thornton. Went here around 2pm Saturday. No wait and got our food and drinks right away. Fast friendly service. We ordered Tempura mixed, Satomi roll, Japanese cowboy, Spicy crunchy, and Fremont. All orders were flavorful and fresh.

My family and I ate here a few days ago. The sushi is amazing and there are many very unique dishes to try! The staff is super friendly and attentive! I’d definitely recommend eating out here!

Delicious take-out during the pandemic! The sashimi is pretty fresh! The rolls are very delicious!!! The price is reasonable (Bay Area price)! Highly recommend it if you crave for sushi / sashimi / Japanese food like me!!! We ordered 5 rolls with one assorted sashimi for 4 people, about $25 per person!!!

We enjoyed our meal at Satomi. At first glance we were a little disappointed in the number of pieces of the rolls, but the actual size of each piece is larger than most rolls we've had. As a bonus they gave us a bowl of tofu for our one year old. The Philly roll was super creamy and tasty.

I have been going here for over 15 years. I have moved cities and now states and they are still the best sushi restaurant I have ever been to. The quality is there every single time. I will always be loyal to this place!

Service was really nice. The food tasted really good and came out surprisingly fast. The area was clean and it had a nice vibe to the whole place and we were able to get some nice pictures with our food. The free miso soup was super duper good.

Unfortunately, Satomi Sushi does not taste like it used to. I was extremely disappointed in the quality.... There was quite a wait to be seated, so I was excited to eat at a place I once loved! But food was not fresh... And they were really busy for a weekday, where we constantly had to flag a staff down for tea or ginger. I don't quite see myself coming back to this establishment anymore.

We came here despite the high reviews. Honestly disappointed when we ordered lobster crossing, lion king and red dragon. The fillings were mainly imitation crab. Lion king's filling have imitation crab and avocado. Lobster crossing all imitation crab and red dragon's filling imitation crab. We thought shrimp tempura was supposed to be one of the fillings inside of red dragon.. my husband said this is weird. Entire bill came out to $70.. was it worth it? Absolutely not, there's other sushi places that's more worth and more filling than just imitation crab. Yes I was baffled because imitation crab is so cheap & each rolls were $18-21. 2 stars for service and free miso soup in the beginning.

We ordered unagi nigiri, Gansta roll, hamachi sashimi, fried soft shell crab. I liked the fried soft shell crab. Everything else was just okay. The waitress was curt and not too friendly.

Honestly a bit disappointed with this location. They forgot to make our sushi rolls and there was a bit of a language barrier and they gave us the dinner platter vs the one that did not come with rice. The thing that bothered us was that the server seemed to try to blame us for it. We pointed it out after we ate because we didn't want any trouble and informed them that it was a little disapppinting and the lady kept telling us that it was what we ordered and that the sushi rolls, altho late... "eventually" came. The reason why we pointed it out was to help them improve their service, make sure orders are coming in and to clarify with the customer next time... we were going to pay for it anyways since we ate and all but we just wanted to make sure they knew that something was wrong with their service. After a lot of back and forth, the server felt bad and offered to lower our bill by a little bit which we appreciated. I would honestly give a lower rating if not for the consideration. I don't think I'll visit this location anymore tho as the other one had better service. Food all-in-all was great tho.

I really love this place. I was in the area for a doctor's visit and needed to charge my car. I was quite hungry and located this sushi spot walking distance from charging. What a find--thank you Yelp! app. I walked in and was greeted warmly by the 2 sushi chefs and the server. I grabbed a seat in the window and made my decisions. --hamachi sashimi --mixed tempura --small hot sake The server brought me a hot miso soup and my sake with a smile. The miso soup was so delicious with a hint of fresh scallions. But, I cannot get too full, I want my sashimi and tempura. The rest of the order arrived with a chef surprise--beautifully crafted sashimi with jalapeño and the yummy tempura on the side. I had to lightly shout across the dinning room to the chef, thanking him for my special lunch. This sushi spot might be a little far from home, but I'm coming back! Not only is the staff super kind, the fish is so fresh, juicy and tasty. I feel like they just caught this hamachi--it's that delicious. I highly recommend this place--5 STAR REVIEW!!!

Delicious fresh sushi! I was craving and my sister picked up two rolls for me. She said the service was very good because they were courteous and fast to hand her our order. I got the rainbow roll and the Golden Gate. Both were super fresh and the fish melted in my mouth. It came with a little bit of wasabi, ginger, and soy sauce and it perfectly paired the rolls. I would love to get more rolls or eat in. The place is located by a popular boba spot so it's perfect for a date night or something.

Terrible service, twrrible food (literally watched the server using the microwave to warm up our edamami, soup and 1 entree, had to ask for water several times... when the food came - it tasted like it was a compilation of different leftovers from previous days.... yuck. Will never be coming back here.

Satomi Sushi never disappoints! I ordered the Sushi and Sashimi Combo, and it was absolutely fresh and beautifully presented. The sashimi slices were generous, melt in your mouth tender, and full of flavor you can tell they use high quality fish. The sushi pieces were perfectly balanced with just the right amount of rice and seasoning. If you're a sushi lover or want to try a bit of everything, this combo is the way to go. Fresh, clean flavors and consistent quality Satomi is a local gem!

We always visit This location. They are friendly and food is always delicious . I like their reward program too.

This is probably my favoritest sushi restaurant ever. Everything is fairly priced, sushi & service is always good & they offer a ton of dessers.

SIXTH FRIDAY OF LENT: NIGIRI & ROLLS Two Fridays ago I ate fish and chips. I wanted to try something different. I remember coming to Satomi Sushi in the past. One of the items I ordered was the sashimi. I remember the inside of this restaurant was cramped. As I entered the restaurant I was amazed there was more space. When I go to sushi bars my friends and relatives order the rolls; I prefer the nigiri. Since I was having lunch by myself I didn't have to worry about the rolls. I ordered three types of nigiri: salmon, smoked salmon, and unagi. I also ordered a yellow tail roll. Out of the two salmon nigiris I preferred the smoked salmon as the savory flavor complimented better with the sweet rice. I also liked the unagi roll as it had a sweet, meaty texture. The yellow tail roll was delicious, but nothing spectacular. I thought I was going to be full after eating the nigiri and roll however I wanted to order more. I thought about ordering more items from the nigiri section as I was thinking about getting the shrimp tempura roll and vegetable tempura roll. Then I look at the Satomi Rolls Section. I ordered the tempura roll, which included shrimp and vegetable. When I go to an eatery I order items with the name of the restaurant as that is its specialty. The other roll I ordered was the Satomi Roll, which is a deep-fried California Roll. When it comes to ordering rolls I always order a tempura roll because of the different textures of crunchiness and softness. By ordering the tempura roll it saved me money then ordering a shrimp tempura roll and vegetable roll separately. The tempura roll was tasty, but the surprise was the Satomi Roll. The outside was lightly breaded. There was an outside crust that contrasted with the California Roll. I tend to dislike California Roll as I find that roll too heavy. Due to the sauce and breading the Satomi Roll made the California Roll hearty. After eating the nigiris and rolls I was full. One thing I noticed I wasn't feeling queasy. Sometimes when I go to a sushi bar I get bloated. Even though I was full for my lunch at Satomi Sushi I didn't feel overly stuffed. A good sign of a sushi is the rice first not the fish. The rice at Satomi Sushi was light. One thing I recalled was the nigiri as the portion of the rice didn't overwhelm the slices of the fish. Hence when I was eating the nigiri it wasn't heavy. I can see myself coming back to Satomi Sushi again. I'll order a couple of new items from nigiri. I also order a new roll such as the Giants and Mango Paradise. My go to roll would be the Satomi Roll.

Great prices, friendly and attentive staff, wonderful tasting rolls. Overall we would love to come back here as everything here was great. They started us with some miso soup and quickly got us through our orders. We ordered the Spicy Juno, Golden Gate, and a Philadelphia roll. All nice and firm fish with fresh taste. They filled our waters so quickly and were very friendly. The ambiance of this place was very chill with lots of cute and cool posters. Overall, I'd come back again if I'm in the area!

Satomi Sushi is one of my favorite sushi spots in the area despite the farther location and limited (also smaller) parking spots in the complex. The menu offers a decent variety of rolls, bento boxes, entrees and sashimi. My favorites are the bento boxes and the sushi combination. All the bento boxes come with salad, rice, and CA rolls along with your choice of meat. So far, the meats we've ordered have been flavorful and grilled to perfection. The sushi combo comes with 8 pieces of CA rolls and 8 sushi rolls (chef's choice). The fish is fresh and their portion size is generous! Staff is attentive and prices are pretty reasonable. The restaurant is pretty big, so we usually don't have to wait long/if at all for a table.

My OG review for this place was back in May 2007. This place was brand new then and probably a review in my first 20 or so. Ask yourself where and how you were back in 07, bet ya say to yourself 'damn how time flies' or 'damn how we've changed'. Lol. So I suppose an update might be of service. So this place expanded quite well over the years. They initially expanded this original space years ago, as when they first opened it was a tiny 20 or so seater. Now they took over a vacant space nextdoor and now the place can easily hold 50-60 now. And they even took over another space in another spot in town, so they are rockin' 2 locations. Just not sure if it is the original owners who started it, but my guess is probably not. Still seems to be a Korean family that runs it tho. Tekka Maki ($7ish/4*) Solid, nicely wrapped, good proportioning of ingredients, a tad petite. I love these so I'd probably get at least one per round. I love simple 3 ingredient rolls where each ingredient are equally important. Bonito Sashimi ($17ish/4.5*) I think this was on special on the board. Quality fish, slightly seared just on the exterior and totally raw in the center. I love the meatiness of this fish and their thick slicing made it even more meaty. Solid. Grilled Mackerel aka Saba Shio ($19/4.5*) Great piece of grilled mackerel. Nicely salted/cured and grilled with just enough char that you could taste it without having bitter notes. Very oily fish...in a good way. And I think this is the only completely deboned version I've had in a very long time. And with a nice salad and rice to go with the plate, just makes this an outstanding and satisfying plate. Salmon Skin Roll ($9/3.5*) Bigger and more filling roll. I liked the ingredients except for the salmon skin part. Lol. It was kinda hard and chewy and even felt there were some cartilidge/bones. 8 Piece Mixed Sashimi ($19/4.5*) Basic set of salmon, tuna, hamachi, and albacore. In what you lost in more exotic offerings, you got in freshness and generous cuts. Sliced super thick which I actually prefer these days if the fish represents, and it most certainly is the case here. So I kinda stopped coming back in the day cuz they got really popular and busy (I hate waiting in lines). But maybe with another location opening up, it disperses the crowds more, as when I go on a weeknight, it is usually pretty chill. Still fill the tables, just never an overflow, which is totally more of my speed. Back in my neighborhood sushi spot rotation. A star bumpage I think is in order here. *boom*

It's time to update my review of the original location of Satomi after nine years. I love the ambiance and restaurant here better than the one on Mowry for some reason. The decor and set up is nicer. It can be for a romantic dinner, too. We used to come here for years until Covid hit and they limited seating then made it for togo only. The only thing that sucks here is their parking lot situation. It's small spaces and limited as it's shared with other restaurants so it's always full but good there is street parking. Customer service is always on point. Very friendly and attentive. The last server who helped us was a guy named Jin I believe based on the receipt. He was good. We usually order Asahi beer. You get miso soup for free each. Usually, I get their hot sake. We tend to order their Greg's Roll to share which is super huge that would probably fit two-three people if shared. We ordered their bento beef box with Salmon Sashimi. I love their salad dressing. Tempura is good. Their wasabi is spicy. Sometimes, I would get the bento with gyoza which is good here, too. Their beef is the best but chicken and Salmon Teriyaki is goood, too. Lots of their rolls here are good, too. My fave dessert here is the mango pancotta; A must! Will be back that the restaurant is open for seating. Totally recommend this place. [79R,2023]

I order the udon and tempura from both the Fremont and Newark shops. The udon was very good. Lots of vegetables, tasty and the texture of the noodles was good. I'd give it a 4.5-5 stars. The tempura was a mixed bag. The veggies were very good. Deep fried but not oily. The batter (which is difficult to get right) was perfect. But the shrimp was a complete fail. I'm fairly certain they use frozen shrimp that is pre-battered. The texture of the dough is different than the veggies. In fact I don't think this is shrimp tempura but rather something closer to ebi furai which is a different consistency and uses panko (Japanese bread crumbs) rather than tempura batter. The shrimp portion is small compared to shrimp that I've gotten from other restaurants. Ebi furai also calls for a different dipping sauce but I got tempura dipping sauce. I rate the "shrimp tempura" a total fail as it's not shrimp tempura. I've attached a picture and you can clearly see the difference in batter texture between the shrimp and the veggies. Search the internet for photos of shrimp tempura and ebi-furai and you can see the difference. I've only rated it as a 2 star because of the misleading impression of what one is getting.

we had lunch with 4 people and shared all appetizers and 2 rolls. we ordered a bunch of appetizers which turned out to be all fried. Bad choice on our part. Fried oysters were good. The dish called Monkey Brains which was mushroom encased in stuffing was in an interesting name, but had too much breading on it. The chicken karage was over fried and dry. We ordered gyoza and it turned out they were deep fried and over done. Agadashi tofu was over fried and not tender. The 2 tolls were delicious. Came here for an early lunch. This place is located in a strip mall so free parking. large interior dining area.

I'm so sad that this place is all the way over in Fremont and now I'll be 30min away from this beautiful restaurant. Their sushi is amazing! I had the crazy spicy roll and the flaming dragon roll. The chefs know what they are doing hands down. They also don't skimp on the fish portions. I went in at an off hour so the inside was quiet and calm but as I was leaving more and more people started trickling in. The staff was super friendly and very attentive. Can't wait to go again

When we're in town, we make an effort to come to this restaurant! The sushi is very fresh, and the customer service is amazing! We especially adore Cindy who is so sweet to our daughter Chloe

If you want Great sushi in the Fremont area, make sure you go to the Satomi on Thornton ave! Do not, i repeat, do Not go to the location on Mowry. The location on Thornton ave. is top tier. Not just the sushi, but the customer service as well. Take it from somebody who partakes in both locations quite often. The Satomi location on Mowry does not come close. The customer service over there is not as great as the location on Thornton. They'll take care of you over here. Our favorite roll is the deep fried Lion King. We've had both from each location, and the location here at Thornton is just delectable. The Gyoza is elite, even the edamame is ravishing! The seating inside is better, everything about this spot it better.

Had not been here in quite a while. Don't think I will be back. Ordered spider roll and tempura roll both just ok. Waited quite a while on the tempura roll. Hubby seemed to like the bento box.

I've grown up going to Satomi and it always hits the spot! My fav sushi restaurant in Fremont. Their rolls are generously portioned and the fish always tastes very fresh. This time, I went here for lunch with my friend and we ordered a variety of rolls - gangsta roll, 49ers, lion king were a few. We also ordered the deep fried tuna stuffed mushroom appetizer and that was impeccable- sooo yummy!

Not the best sushi place in the area. I've been here twice - once for dine and once for take out. Both times, the sushi weren't great. The sushi lacks flavor, and there's a noticeable attempt to make up for the lack of flavor with the use of spicy mayo. But it doesn't work because spice is not a flavor. However, it might be a good option for people who have a more mild pallet. With that said, the fish do seem to be quite fresh. I think the price was fair for sushi. Onto the service, it was below average. First of all, when I dined in, all the plates for our table were dirty, there were pieces of food stuck on them. Each and every single plate. So we requested for new plates, so that's fine. Then, as we were ordering, I asked the waitress for a recommendation and she seemed annoyed at my question... and it was giving "Why did you say you were ready to order? Clearly doesn't seem that way".

The sushi here is really good the rolls are perfect size to eat. My kids get the bento and they always hit the mark. Service is good and they always follow up in a timely manner. Ambiance is good. Will recommend coming here.

Miso Soup - 5 Star Salad - 5 Star Rainbow roll - 4 Star Lion King roll - 5 Star The waitresses were very attentive and provided great service. The ambience of the restaurant is basic decorations with a good amount of seating. We went in at 8pm on a Saturday night and they still had a couple tables available. The only cons were the small parking lots given the amount of other businesses open on a Saturday night. And the fact that were only open till 9pm as we would have like to sit for a little longer to let the food settle while drinking tea. Neither of these deterred me from giving them a 5 star rating.

My fiancé and I have been coming here for every so often as it is walking distance from our place. We ordered the signature set and it was amazing! We are always so happy with our order and how quick the service is. The restaurant itself has lots of seating and it is not too crowded.

Sushi cravings satisfied. My original plan for brunch didn't go as planned so I checked my Yelp bookmarks and decided to give this place a try! This place is spacious and they do a lot of phone orders. I ordered the Flaming Roll, Lucky 7, and Andy's. The rolls are well made and very flavorful! Love how much sauce they add for the Flaming roll. I like it saucy!! It was honestly love at first bite. The Lucky 7 was also very delicious. Kinda big cuts but definitely filling. Andy's roll has the tempura bits which added some crunchy texture to the rolls. It had salmon on top and tuna inside. I was hoping they had a mango crunch type roll. My friend loved her California Lovers and "Breaded deep fried spicy tuna with jalapeño." Other than that, this is a solid sushi spot in my books!

I love the Bento boxes all of them good portion but when you order Togo they don't give you the miso soup !

Its in the small run down plaza on Thorton. They have your typical sushi items. Things to note are the flaming Dragon roll thats always fun to watch and well as their hand rolls. I always ask for the spicy tuna. They add more cucumbers than other places. They have good sake and beer. Staff is always efficient and get your food out quickly. Gets packed at dinner time especially Fridays and Saturday. Free parking that can get tight on busy nights.

Came when the place opened. After ordering was told it would be 15 minutes for a to go order. I sat and watched multiple people order after me and get their food. After 35 minutes I had to ask the server about the order who told me to wait an additional 5 minutes. I used to love this place but it has gone downhill quite a bit. When I got to my car I looked in the bag and it looked as though things were rushed and tossed in. Also my bento box didn't even have the rice I had ordered

I have eaten here several times now. The food is consistently good, I love the teriyaki salmon

The BEST place for the BEST sushi period! Very helpful staff as well, who always get our order right, and even sometimes with some free items too! 100% recommend!

Came here around 7pm on a Wednesday. Wasn't too busy. Service was amazing! The servers were really quick and made sure you got everything! This is a casual sushi spot and we were in and out of there in about an hour. Everything came out so quickly! Giving it four stars and not five because I've had better sushi, but it was still good!

I love coming here and ordering from here as well. I cannot complain. Their food is delicious and they are mindful of their customers.

I wish my review could share my thoughts and opinion on the food here but unfortunately it can not since I never received my food. I ordered a chicken teriyaki bento box and it never arrived. I saw several other tables who were seated after me received their non-sushi orders before me. I also saw a handful of take out orders prepared and set out for pick up. Service during this experience was completely unacceptable and I will not be coming back.

One of my favorite sushi spots of all time. I used to go here a lot. I love that there is no more than one location. Parking lot is kind of tight, so be careful. Inside there was no A/C this time so it was super toasty. Food came out fast and the staff were attentive. I always order the flaming dragon. Lots of flavor and great presentation. I was impressed with the assorted sashimi. All the fish tasted fresh. My boyfriend loved it and the price wasn't too bad either. Always a local gem for me.

Delicious! I was skeptical because their pricing was kinda high, but the portions and rolls were huge! We ordered online and it was ready fairly quickly. I went in to pick-up the order and noticed that the restaurant was packed! Service was quick and the food was packed very well. I will definitely be back and recommend this spot. They had lots of tables and pricing is really fair!

Hands down best sushi in Fremont. The Greg's roll is huge and can be split between two people- has a little bit of everything. My husband always gets a lion king- the sauce they put on top is better than any other iterations of a lion king we have tried at other spots. 49er is also a favorite with lemon on top. I personally love their tempura appetizer and a salmon skin roll!

This is a little inconspicuous hidden gem! The agedashi tofu was one of the better ones I've had. Sushi was good. But the BBQ ribs?? Like butter! The staff was also extremely nice, especially Yui! Will definitely be back!

This is one the best sushi experiences I've had in Fremont hands-down, You have to try the flaming dragon roll, The Lion King the raider roll I can go on and on I have not had one that I didn't like yet we enjoyed sake bombs, I went with my son this time and he loved it, the staff is very polite very knowledgeable of everything on the menu and very attentive. Service is great. I arrived early and our server. Let me in to pick my table while I was waiting for my son to show up. ambience very nice; very clean, not too loud except for when it gets extremely busy; which it does, the later it gets, the longer the wait

The service was not that great. While ordering my food I asked if I could have my option in a bento box so that I can have a variety of food. The server declined so I asked for a side of California rolls to be added. Two of our orders arrived after some wait time and it took at least another 15 min for the next order to come out. And I still hasn't received mine. After a while we flagged another waiter asking where my order was. The miso soup was cold and as described above due to the waiting so was the rest of the food. And after all that wait I didn't get my side of California rolls. I wasn't impressed with the taste of anything. At a restaurant that 4 people just standing around you would think that someone would have noticed. Based on the food and service I overpaid. Needless to say I will NOT be recommending this place to anyone or returning.

Had a craving for teriyaki beef and sashimi on a Monday evening, so I decided to try Satomi Sushi on Thornton Ave. I got the Bento Box with Beef Teriyaki and Sashimi, plus the Flaming Dragon roll. everything was fantastic! The beef teriyaki was tender and flavorful, and the sashimi was super fresh. The Flaming Dragon roll was a spicy, delicious surprise. The staff was friendly. Definitely coming back for more! Highly recommend!

Wow, I didn't realize that the last time I reviewed this place was 8 years ago. When I used to live in Fremont I ate here more times than I can count, but never went back after a series of disappointing visits. I came back today with my friend and I was pleasantly surprised. We ordered 4 rolls and they were all really good with fresh fish. The service was pretty bare bones even though it wasn't that busy. The bathroom was kind of dirty and the restaurant felt kind of dirty overall. However, still rating this 4 stars since the sushi was good!

Easy strip mall parking. Modest Japanese restaurant. Tasty mushroom monkey brains, chicken karaage and agadashi tofu appetizers. Our rolls were very good. Service was fine. I'd eat here again.

This place is generally fine for sushi rolls if you just want something quick! Most of the rolls had just mayo crab meat in the centre but the rice was a little soggy, and it just made every thing a mush to eat. The Greg roll was interesting - just heaps of sashimi and seaweed salad on very huge rolls. Might need 2-3 people to share this. Generic roll size ok, but slightly pricier than other places. Both the dragon roll and baked salmon roll actually tasted pretty much the same... Also tried the tempura which was not bad - wish they gave two shrimp instead! Service is top notch and the waitress was really helpful explaining the menu. There's actually plenty of seating as I went on a weekday evening and it was practically empty. They close at 9pm, not 10pm as stated on their website.
