On the Grid : Saudade

"Right in the middle of Little Portugal between bakeries and soccer bars lies Saudade, a little shop celebrating Portuguese design. Owners Nancy and Connie import goods from Portuguese designers and artisans that blend the old with the new. There’s a little something for everyone from beautiful geometric wool blankets, to unique ceramics to Crème de Rosto face creams. Saudade translates to a wistful longing for a place, person or thing, and even if you’ve never been to Portugal, you’ll want to after visiting this shop." - Sovereign State

"In Portuguese, saudade is yearning for something that once was. And at Saudade, a lifestyle store smack in the center of Toronto’s Little Portugal neighborhood, the goal is to make the customer yearn for the old country (or wish a country as cool as Portugal were their old country). White walls providethebackdrop for a varietyof handmade crafts and Portuguese products. Wrapped soaps from Porto, vividly colored ceramic pitchers, handbags basket-wovenin rainbow hues, painted serving platters, and wooden racks displaying gorgeous textiles of cotton and wool fill the shop."

Yelp
Saudade is located on the south side of Dundas half a block west of Ossington. My wife likes this store and has been many times but just recently was my first visit. We came with friends we were out with that day just to take a look. Normally my wife would buy soap or other small things and they even have some food products near the front like olive oil and sardines. The store is in Little Portugal so it's understandable that many of the products are from there including the knick knacks and food. It's a nice place and they have a variety of things to brighten up the house.

Yelp
Portuguese Urban Barn is the perfect way to describe it. They have home decor items (cups, plates, blankets), jewellery, bags, lots of plates and even Portuguese guide and travel books - on where to visit, etc. They also have Portuguese food - like sardines in a can, and other such interesting food items that obviously, are not very perishable unlike fruits and vegetables and the like.

Yelp
Saudade is like a mini Urban Barn situated in Little Portugal. They sell beautiful items for the contemporary home with a Portuguese influence. If you're looking to add a Portuguese flair to home, this is the place to go. From beautiful tea cup sets to Portuguese rooster coin banks, you're bound to see something that will catch your eye!
