The Best Bars in Phoenix, Arizona | Eater Phoenix

"This 100-square-foot wine shop is more bottle shop, less bar. But it is home to the most fascinating wine and wine-adjacent selections in town, and customers can drink bottles in Sauvage or in the outdoor food hall it calls home. Chris Lingua, proprietor and the man behind the shop’s varied tunes, sources low-intervention wines in the orbit of natural, though he hesitates to use that zeitgeist-y word. He sources Swedish ciders made from pear and apple juice, and Italian Grillo partly fermented in clay vessels, like the ancient Romans did. The bottle selection, displayed by price on one shop wall, changes frequently." - Nikki Buchanan

The Best Wine Bars in Phoenix

"Sauvage has quickly become a darling of the Phoenix wine scene — and for good reason. Housed in the more than 100-year-old Helen Anderson House off McDowell, Sauvage’s interior has visitors loving its light-filled nooks and crannies, with an aesthetic somewhere between a grandma’s cottage and a chic plant shop. Sauvage does a remarkable job of making both local Arizona wines and hard-to-find labels accessible and enjoyable to local audiences. They also frequently hosts food pop-ups and DJ events throughout the week." - Mcconnell Quinn

14 Vital Phoenix Bars to Visit

"A few years ago, finding a natural wine bar in Phoenix was quite the challenge, let alone one selling local natural wine. Then came Sauvage. From its modest origins as a small natural wine stand in the downtown Phoenix hotspot, The Churchill, Sauvage expanded to its own brick-and-mortar location in 2023 and hasn’t looked back since. The shop found its home in the hundred-year-old Helen Anderson house off McDowell Road, restoring it to its English cottage roots. While Sauvage still offers a plethora of retail wines for purchase, it has upgraded to a selection of over 200 wines available for enjoyment on-site, corked to go, or by the glass, accompanied by a menu of small bites. Sauvage is always bustling with events, including rotating chef specials and DJ performances throughout the week." - Mcconnell Quinn, Nikki Buchanan

Quiet and intimate yet upbeat. This place has a good vibe reguardless of if your winding down or starting your night with chill vibes and energetic music. Mollie, Kaitlynn, and Chris were all excellent and we were provided with great wine recommendations. They all took the time to describe to us what they were serving and how to order something similar in the future. I was personally here to tonight to try some natural wine to expand my palette. My friend who joined me knows nothing of wine and they made them feel very comfortable and informed.

Google
Such a sweet spot for events! I had a couple host their post elopement reception here and it had the best house party vibe for all of their guests and their bridal portraits were such a vibe

Google
Tried Harlem coffee inside Sauvage and the atmosphere and service was great! Coffee shop is open on the weekends and the brunch options are great too.

Google
My favorite natural wine bar in Phoenix. Great wine selection. Cozy atmosphere. The owner and staffs were very attentive to detail. They remembered most of their customers’ preference and names. They also host many event throughout the year which made it very fun! In addition, you can ask them to help you pair wine with your food too. I would recommend this place for people who want to enjoy food time with friends or for a date-night.

Google
Fantastic place. Total LA vibe in my opinion. The food is top notch and they cook with no nasty or fake ingredients. The wine also is so clean and natural. I highly recommend checking it out.

Google
beautifully remodeled, the roof looks amazing. the wine selections are fantastic, they even help out and assist with picking for you based on your taste or what you are feeling. They also have snack options but not dinner. so great date night, great for groups to get cozy here.

Google
One of the best wine bars in the valley! They have some really unique wines and the staff is kind and thoughtful. Best of all is the vibe of the building/decor - so intimate and fun! They even have live music sometimes

Kristin Embry

Google
Really great vibe! From what I understand the food is pop ups, so difficult to know ahead of time what is on the menu but really good food. Coffee drinks great! Went for brunch so didn't try wine but many options

Yelp
Finally got to try this place out since they moved here from the Churchill. It was really bright and airy - I came right at 4pm when they opened on a Friday and there was no one there which was perfect. It was just me and a friend so we found a nice table situated by the window. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and let us try their wines since we were on the fence on a few of them. Food wise, they were offering some open faced foods which were the perfect pairing with our wines. It is on the pricier side but you are definitely paying for the quality of the wines. I look forward to coming back to this place!

Yelp
Just the greatest spot! Super homey, chill but hip. Michelin level casual dining w/Nordberg Thurs + Fri. The clam dish was briny, herby, earthy and creamy - a combo platter of flavors and depth. Chef makes it so that you wipe up the sauce with the bread, just genius. Tomato dish was a mix of acidity but with a sort of hummus like dip underneath. Mollie the server was great. One of the best places in town hands down

Yelp
We had a really nice time here. Cutest little venue with eclectic chairs and decor. We had wine and bread and butter. The bread was fantastic with the salted European butter. I also had smoked salmon in the tin and it was so good!!!!

Yelp
My favorite wine bar! I recommend this spot to anyone and everyone! The ambience is unmatched whether you come in during the day or at night the vibes and energy are immaculate! The staff are always kind and give the best recommendations! I ordered the Sancerre rose and it's crisp and refreshing! Skip the glass order the bottle especially if you're sharing with friends! The bread and butter is a must! When I saw it was $9 I said heck no but then I tried it and trust me you will order it EVERY TIME! I wasn't a fan of the popcorn it was really stale & nothing special. Staff informed me that on Wednesdays they have pizza so I'll definitely be back to check that out!

Yelp
They have a really cool vibe and, of course, an amazing wine selection. There is a bit of something for everyone, and they also periodically have things like pizza pop ups and wine tastings. I went with a friend on a night they had both, and the pizzas were delicious. We loved the wines from the tasting enough to take home a bottle. The service was friendly and on top of things. Unfortunately, they are pretty pricey with their pours, and they do not offer any discounts, like a happy hour, so this is more of a special occasion than a regular hangout.

Yelp
Fab wine shop with friendly staff, nice selection of wines by the glass, and small plates for snacking. Both the sparkling wines I tried- Mas Goma cava and Dunites Pet Nat- were very good. Would order both again. And I highly recommend the bread & butter (salty butter- yum!), cheese plate, and tin of smoked salmon if you want something to nibble on. Prices are a little high but the quality of everything is, too. And the staff is great- really welcoming and happy to answer questions about the menu. The parking lot is small, but there's street parking nearby. Recommend!

Yelp
LOVE. Absolutely gorgeous decor / cozy atmosphere inside a historic building, incredibly delicious food (got the cheese platter and the bread and butter, and highly recommend them both), and a good selection of awesome wines. Great service. Being a French transplant, I love that this business was inspired by my home country. There is a patio for those warmer days, but you can't go wrong with grabbing one of the comfy couches inside, or grabbing a stool at the bar.

Yelp
More than happy to come back here over and over. The service is great, the wine is delicious, and the ambiance is everything I could ask for and then some. We went on a warm sunny day (surprise, Phoenix!) and the place got an incredible amount of natural light that was easy on the eyes. We ordered some popcorn and olives to enjoy with our wine - absolutely no regrets. The entire staff was incredibly kind. More than happy to return again and again.

Yelp
My visit to Sauvage Wine Bar on my birthday was nothing short of extraordinary. While the delicious Otra pizza on Wednesday certainly made for a memorable meal, it was the wine tasting menu and the extensive selection of bottles that truly stole the show. With each sip, I embarked on a journey through different regions and varietals, guided by knowledgeable staff who shared their passion for wine. The cozy atmosphere and attentive service made for a perfect evening, and I know I'll be back time and time again to indulge in Sauvage's exceptional offerings.

Yelp
Upscale, pricey wine bar (think $20/glass). Came on a busy night but they provided excellent service. Wine was great as were the small plates.
google avatar

Yelp
adorable spot, great selection of local and imported wines. the small plates were delicious and flavorful. the service was top notch despite the crowds. i am definitely going to return.

Yelp
Sauvage is so welcoming and chill. You can tell there was so much thought into decorating the space of this historic building. Everyone who served us was friendly and knowledgeable about the wines. We just had a couple of glasses. Great wine selection. Will go back to try some of the bites!
google avatar

Yelp
Loved everything about this place! Super friendly and knowledgeable staff, great vibes, great wine. My whole squad was vibing, sitting in the living room, sippin on vino with some of my best pals. The bites were good too, especially their foccaccia! We went twice in 2 days...
google avatar

Yelp
amazing place "it rules" we love the fossil & dawn also the grilled cheese is smackin especially the little pickles
google avatar

Karely Q.

Yelp
This spot is for true wine lovers! In not super into wine but tried out their riesling option and it was good! They have small bites but luckily we went on a day that they had a pizza pop up and it's was good too, the middle was a bit underdone. We thought for our buck it was better to buy the bottle than glasses of wine.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is absolutely charming. The wine list is well curated and very hip/modern with plenty of natural wines and bubbly. Atmosphere is cute and cozy within the old house. The staff was all amazingly attentive and nice. Definitely going back and will be our neighborhood favorite.

Yelp
Even if I wasn't a wine connoisseur, Chris &this Sauvage Bottle Shop would still get 5 stars. This vino boutique is one of the vendors inside The Churchill, an open-air, food court with an inviting communal flow. The SBS nestles in just right amongst the entrance to the variety of eateries, cocktails, craft brews & live music. As soon as I walked in the Owner Chris & myself hit it off, who was sitting on a stool & working off his Ipad. I'm usually the person asking all the questions, yet Chris finds joy in sharing his experience & knowledge of wine which yielded in me not asking a lot of questions. For him, it's not bout the most expensive bottle down to the ingredients. Ready for this - some wines are made with animal-derived fining agents used in the production of wine including blood & bone marrow. Hmm...I have a brand new look at organic & plant-based wines. He also mentioned he selects his wine based on his knowledge, preferences & intuition on the ever-evolving of wine production. His objective to also offer selections as clean as possible without added sugars with the sulfite-free brands if applicable. A former wine wholesaler, Chris effortlessly illuminates his passion for wine while sharing wisdom. My visit was pretty simple, I told Chris of my palate, price point & the number of bottles I wanted & he sent me on my way a very happy customer. He even securely packaged my bottles for my walk back to the hotel. Sauvage's 411: *The Wine Well - A monthly bottle subscription featuring exclusive bottles that aren't available anywhere else in the state of Arizona *Over 200 rotating selections *A Membership Program *Online ordering Similar to a small, very modernized Porta-King Inplant Office, the Sauvage Bottle Shop is quaint offering welcoming vibes with two chairs & a table on the slab-style mini patio. I recommend the Sauvage Bottle Shop across all fronts even if you don't drink wine.

Yelp
A perfect spot to stretch your natural wine wings. Even if you know nothing about nat wine, the staff gently guides you to something of your liking. Trust that they know their wine. Can't wait togo back.

Tony V.

Yelp
I adore this place. Moody, dimly lit, great music. The definition of "a vibe". Plus the wine is great and literally everyone who works there is amazing. Couldn't say better things about this place!
google avatar

Laura L.

Yelp
Love this place! Good ambience, great wine selections, helpful and knowledgeable service. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
So disappointing. After reading all the great reviews my husband and I were so excited to try this place out. Wow they missed the mark. Blaring music and mediocre, way overpriced wine served in enormous water goblets. For those prices the quality of the wine and food needs to be so much better. It just opened in its cute new location so we'll give it another chance, but they really need to step it up and turn down that music and improve the quality of what they are serving.

Yelp
Perfect wine shop. Excellent selection, great staff, versatile environment. I love this place. Phoenix needs more of this.
google avatar

Anita S.

Yelp
Great wine and great service! Very cool spot for sure! If you're hungry or think you'll get hungry, eat beforehand/after! Food is extremely tiny portions at steep prices!

Yelp
Stopped in for a bottle of wine. Tiny but super cute place. The guy who helped me was awesome. He helped me pick out the perfect bottle of wine. It was so good that I poured a glass and before I knew it the bottle was gone The guy was really helpful. He didn't just try to sell me the most expensive bottle, he wanted me to have what I would like the best. And, their most expensive is not that expensive. I'll definitely get my wine there from now on!

Yelp
Tucked into the corner of The Churchill is a bright, airy, and minimalist room sporting a conspicuous set of wine racks. After stepping in, I was greeted by a lone man with nothing but a tablet and a clear passion for his product. His name is Chris, a former wine wholesaler who decided on branching out on his own. Affable and casual, he makes browsing wines simple and enjoyable. Like some sort of street-smart sommelier. Just tell him what tastes good to you, what you're willing to pay, and he'll provide exactly what you need. What's great about Chris is he's really invested in procuring wines that meet high standards. He is fond of Biodynamic wines--a term I was unfamiliar with, but have come to love. He'll be happy to explain that better than I can. His selection also avoids added sugars, and is low in sulfites across the board. He really wants to avoid wine that may cause headaches--and while he professes this literally, it happens to be figuratively true as well. I was never so excited to bring a bottle home to my family. I asked for a smoky red, reminiscent of a Malbec, and it was everything I'd hoped for. My family includes particularly health-conscious people who are sensitive to the unsavory ingredients Chris avoids. They agreed this was a great tasting bottle that left them with no regrets. I have many lessons to learn about enjoying wine, but that's OK. I've got a trustworthy entrepreneur in the business, and as long as he's around I don't feel like I can go wrong.

Yelp
If you don't know where this place is at, then you don't know it's there. "Tiny" is the word. Our son recommended this place for good wine. Well..... he was right. Chris (who owns the shop) helped us pick two bottles. Very helpful and knowledgable. Supposedly the wine sold there is free from sulphates. Natural Wine. Forget about chain wine stores, shop local and keep the business going. The wine selection at Sauvage Bottle Shop gives you opportunity to purchase a great gift for that special friend or keeps your own home stocked to drink yourself or share with an unexpected visitor.

Yelp
I am not a big red wine fan and have found myself pretending to enjoy it for most of my adult life. I first read about natural wines in Action Bronson's book "F*ck That's Delicious" and have wanted to try it after he said they're great for people who previously haven't enjoyed wine. Luckily, I found Sauvage on Yelp and took a trip to the shop about a month ago. The owner, Chris, was super helpful and was excited to find the right red wine for me. I was very impressed with the shops layout and selection of wines organized by price and color. Chris suggested I try Trebbiolo, a $30 red wine for my first natural wine. WOW! This was truly the first bottle of red wine I have ever enjoyed. The taste was amazing, I didn't get sleepy after one glass, and I felt great in the morning. I went back the next weekend to get Chris' suggestion on what bottle I should get to go with my New Years Eve Dinner and once again he suggested a perfect natural Chardonnay. I am looking forward to my next visit and next bottle of wine from Sauvage.

Yelp
Just opened and off to a great start. Great Karma. Love the patio seating although music was a bit loud. Complimentary small bowl of popcorn was tasteless, but wine and service were FABULOUS!
google avatar

Jenny S.

Yelp
I've been to the Churchill half a dozen times by this point, but haven't had the opportunity to come stop by Sauvage. Finally got the chance today and I was not disappointed. We came by to see their wine selection, at which point we were greeted by Chris, who was super friendly and helpful. He asked us what we we were interested in trying, our price point and came up with a wonderful recommendation for us. He even provided us with recyclable glasses! I definitely recommend coming here if you want to try something new, or are just in the neighborhood.
google avatar

Steven K.

Yelp
Visited this little wine store when my wife and I were at the Churchill. Super cool little shop and I really like how they simplified the wine purchasing experience. They basically have a wall of wine bottles all categorized into different price points. I believe the price points are from $15-30 per bottle. We had a pretty unique red wine that I did enjoy but we did also get a watermelon wine almost like a rose that I was not a fan of. But that's the whole thing about wine, you gotta try new things and sometimes you like them and sometimes you don't. Overall, I'm really glad that Phoenix is finally starting to have cooler little local spots like this. I hope that they keep the wines here unique and we will be back when in the area.
google avatar

Nurit F.

Yelp
I have my wine spots they carry most natural wine but specialty liquors and spirits too. Chris is the owner he is the bomb .I will admit at the beginning I was hesitant but after going there a few times to his tastings and speaking with his distributor I was impressed. He does have a passion for wine brings in wine for every kind of person. You can buy a bottle drink it at the Churchill or take it home (they have chillers) . No corkage fee. A great chilling place to go too.

Keli W.

Yelp
I am lucky enough to live down the street from here. It's a great experience every time I stop by. Chris is super helpful and always has a great selection and recommendations. I highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area.
google avatar

Brianna M.

Yelp
This guy is living the dream at the new Churchill in downtown Phoenix. It's bottles only- four different price points (15, 20, 25, 30) and the wines are ever-changing keeping things fresh. Drink it there with the abundance of outdoor/rooftop seating or take it to-go! Chris helped us pick out a fun rosé while getting to know us at the same time. Can't wait to be back to support this local biz.
google avatar

Kim H.

Yelp
Thank you for helping us pick out some delicious wine. Only asking a few questions and he knew a perfect wine! Cute little place. I love that you can drink there or take it with you. I will definitely make the drive from Surprise to visit again.
google avatar

Erin R.

Yelp
Super cute wine shop with approachable yet unique options. Owner Chris is friendly and makes great recommendations! Definitely a good spot to stop if you want to try something new, interesting and affordable! What's great is you can buy a bottle and enjoy it while hanging out, walking around the Churchill.

Heidi P.

Yelp
Visiting my parents in Phoenix and made a stop at Sauvage in Churchhill. I wandered in and really enjoyed the simplicity of the set up. Chris made it easy to find what I was looking for and I picked up some great wines to gift the folks. If I was a local, this would easily become a hobby shop of mine. It seems they rotate inventory fairly frequently.
google avatar

Jeremy H.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I popped in here to grab a couple bottles. Fantastic service, extremely knowledgeable, perfect selection of wines, tasteful decorations, and 5 star experience start to finish. Thank you! I'll be back!

Jazmine G.

Yelp
We literally just walked out and I didn't want to forget to write a review about how much we loved this shop! The owner was so friendly and helpful and chose a great bottle for us. Fun concept, awesome wine, amazing all around!

Starr M.

Yelp
Chris is wonderful and knows his stuff. We told him what kind of pizza we were ordering and he paired it perfectly. Highly recommend!!
google avatar

Lyndsi H.

Yelp
Buying wine can be a daunting task. Not knowing how to describe what you like, not wanting to spend a ton, and not look like a cheap-skate. This place solves all those. They have all the wine on the wall decending from whites to reds and going across in price from $15-$30. Plus there's Chris!!! The owner is AMAZING! He listens to what you like and talks to you in terms you understand without talking down to you. Not like when you nod and agree but don't actually know what they're talking about. He has really fun, funky wines I never even knew about. This has become our Sunday routine to come down and grab a bottle to try in their courtyard (even better he has 2 tables and chairs right outside his shop) and pick one up to go. He has glasses, and wine chiller bags so you can try your wine out right away, and he can re cork it for you if you don't finish it ( which you will.) Only problem I have is I'm now spoiled and I can't buy wine anywhere else.

Rob D.

Yelp
Wow, what a neat idea!! Splitting a bottle of wine is no longer an expensive night out. Chris has crafted a space that is welcoming and a fun/knowledgeable experience. Every time we've stopped in he educates us and we leave with a delicious yet reasonably priced bottle of wine. Highly recommend it for whatever night you're seeking!

Kell D.

Yelp
Chris is super friendly and approachable. As someone who does not know much about wine he breaks everything down for me, and always has great recommendations for any situation.
