Savanah Dan is a first rate walking tour. His knowledge of Savanah and Georgia history is amazing and his ability to tell stories makes the tour very entertaining. I highly recommend this tour!

Joy D.

Google

Google
Highly recommend Dan. If you want to learn info on history of Savannah Dan is the man. Humor combined with a great communicator will leave you with memories of Savannah.

Google
We had a fabulous walking tour through the squares of Savannah. Dan was very knowledgable and thoroughly entertaining mixing some humour and theatrics to bring the tour to life.

Jenny S.

Google
Do this on the first day of your visit to Savannah! Dan knows his city and state and talks about it in such an engaging way—we went to a few individual house tours later in the week and we both agreed Dan was way more fun to listen to than they were. I think I will always remember Savannah’s story because he made it so interesting. Hands down the highlight of my trip. Thanks Dan!

Joshua B.

Google
Great tour. Very friendly, knowledgeable and entertaining. Did this on the beginning of our trip to see what else we should do and it gave us a lot of ideas. Heard about him from a coworker who's husband is from Savannah. She said he is THE tour guide to use and a bit of a local celebrity. 10/10 would recommend.

Nicholas D.

Google
We had a excellent tour with Dan 9/16/25. He is amazingly knowledgeable, with formidable stamina, great wit and ready to take questions seriously. A wonderful 2 hours spent with him.

Google
Our private historical walking tour with Savannah Dan was an absolute highlight of our trip! With only three days to explore the city, this tour gave us an incredible amount of insight into Savannah’s rich history, charm, and Southern character. Savannah Dan was brilliant—engaging, witty, and impressively knowledgeable. He delivered a fantastic mix of solid historical facts (which my husband especially appreciated) along with fun and quirky trivia that kept me intrigued throughout. His storytelling brought the city’s past to life in a way that was both entertaining and deeply informative. You’ll walk away from this tour with a much deeper understanding of the South and the many layers that make Savannah such a unique and beautiful place. Highly recommended for anyone wanting more than just a casual stroll—this is the real deal!

Yelp
Savannah Dan is the go to tour in Savannah. I enjoyed myself as SD narrated our walking tour. I like history and Savannah is steeped in it! I would recommend Savannah Dans walking tour.

Yelp
We booked this tour last minute, and we are so glad we did. We were lucky enough to be the only family on the tour, so we had Dan's full attention. He is a wealth of knowledge about so many things, and also a pleasant person to spend the morning with. We highly recommend this tour even if you are not a history buff.

Phil P.

Yelp
This was the best thing we did - schedule Dad 1st thing (make a res Bfor you get here) so that you have the best lay of the land and know where to eat, drink, and visit. He was great1

Amy B.

Yelp
Savanah Dan was a wonderful tour! He was extremely knowledgeable about Savannah and its history. He was very personable and charming and made the tour fun. He had fantastic recommendations for restaurants and things to do in the area which was extremely helpful for Savannah first timers. Highly recommend!

Yelp
A lot of interesting facts about the history of Savannah, mainly focusing on the revolutionary war, war of 1812 and the civil war. We visited about 6 of the squares and got the history associated with them, but he ended our two hour private tour about 20 minutes early and overall he just seemed annoyed with us and having to do a tour that afternoon. Maybe it was just an off day, but I spoke with some other locals and heard comments about him being a bit arrogant and sometimes not very kind. It was a fine tour and helped orient us to the city, but I wouldn't recommend to friends or family visiting Savannah.

Yelp
First of all, as a fellow southerner, my apologies to Savannah Dan - I've been meaning to get my review out there for months now! That aside, let's talk about just why and how he was so great! From the moment we saw him walking up, we knew we made the right decision. Dan carries himself like a man who knows his business. I'd found him after scouring the web and Yelp for an informative and entertaining tour guide while we were in Savannah celebrating our anniversary. He was instantly engaging, not overly "in character" and gave us a solid tour with plenty of southern embellishments at each spot of significance. Of course he was wearing the seersucker suit and hat like you've seen in his advertisements and here on Yelp. I've even added a few of my own, just in case. We were sweaty messes but Dan kept his cool the entire time. Just in case the name didn't give it away, it is a walking tour so please make sure you wear comfortable shoes. It is a pretty decent walk. There is a stop in the middle at a lcal bar for refreshments and air conditioning, but being comfortable really is the way to approach anything in Savannah during the summertime! You'll also need to call and make a reservation - maybe well in advance too. There might be other, or cheaper, options out there, but we saw his competition in the park and knew we made the better choice. No regrets taking the tour at all - we had a great time! I hope he continues giving tours for years to come so I can make recommendations to all of my friends venturing to Savannah.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I met Dan at our bed and breakfast (Amethyst Inn....highly recommend). From there, we continued on a two hour leisurely stroll of historic Savannah...including a whiskey sample! If your looking for a fun, entertaining way to learn about Savannah, don't miss an afternoon with Savannah Dan! Fabulous tour!

Yelp
This was our second time doing a tour with Savannah Dan and he did not disappoint. My husband and I did a tour over a decade ago and enjoyed it so much that we brought our children (7 and 9) back to Savannah and signed up for a private tour. Our tour was completely different from the one we did previously but just as informative, and he could keep our children engaged for the entire 2 hours. Our children enjoyed it so much that they told our friends whom we met up with in Savannah about it, who then signed up for a tour a few days after us. Definitely recommend it and will most likely do another one next time we are back in Savannah!!

Erica O.

Yelp
An amazing and insightful Savannah walking tour! First did Dan's historic tour in 2011 and it was awesome, recommended to many friends and family. Took his tour the 2nd time in 2024 and was excellent again (brought friends and family as 1st timers!). Sanannah Dan is highly recommended! JB and EO

Yelp
This might be the first Yelp review I've ever written, I'm honored it's for Savannah Dan. He made our recent trip to Savannah the amazing experience it was. We arrived into town on Friday evening, so I thought a Saturday morning walking tour would be best to get a "lay of the land" to make the most of our stay, we honestly could not have picked a better tour guide. He's a gentleman with a wealth of knowledge, a great personality, and his tour was a lot of fun. You'll learn about history of the city, check out the current sights to see, he even makes recommendations for the best restaurants to visit during your trip. His restaurant recommendations alone were really just incredible. His walking tour was a highlight of our trip. If you're planning a trip to Savannah, start off with a tour from Savannah Dan! You will not be disappointed.

Yelp
This was our first time to Savannah and starting it off with a tour from Savannah Dan was an excellent way to start! Learned a great deal about early Savannah. Would highly recommend. If we ever go back would definitely book again!

Yelp
Savannah Dan is the man. We were part of a group tour this past Saturday, 2/24. The tour was absolutely delightful. Got to see and hear a lot about Savannah and its history. Walking the streets with Dan was far more immersive than riding around in a trolly. The man is a walking encyclopedia of the city. We learned so much and really enjoyed the rest of our visit because of the knowledge we gained. I would recommend Savannah Dan without reservation. Thank you SD!!

Yelp
This was my first trip to Savannah and I took the 2 hour tour in the morning on the day after arriving in Savannah. The tour provided a good foundation for the rest of my stay. Savannah Dan was informative and interesting. His delivery is polished and at times entertaining( he may be a bit full of himself but understandably so), and the tour well paced with a short rest and refreshment stop. I would recommend taking this tour.

Yelp
Dan was an excellent tour guide. Perfect combination of humor, knowledge and entertainment. Highly recommend his tour. Loved walking and seeing Savannah through his eyes. My kids appreciated his tour as well. Learned a great about American History.

Wendi A.

Yelp
Mr. Dan is truly a gem! Whether this is your first time to Savannah, as it was for us, or your 100th, I promise you will learn something new and he will be a big part of why you will fall in love with this special city.

Yelp
SAVANNAH IS OPEN! Savannah Dan was fantastic. We loved his tour. He knew just about everything there is to know about Savannah's history. He walked us through four or five of the beautiful historic squares. He was incredibly chipper and oh so dapper in his suit and hat. I would highly recommend!

Jerry M.

Yelp
Dan's walking tour was excellent, entertaining, and very informative. The time was well spent listening to Dan tell the history of Savannah.

Yelp
Informative and fun! Lots of great information. Dan was a great tour guide to a wonderful city! Thanks for making my birthday trip so memorable!

Yelp
Great experience, we have been on several tours while in Savannah and this has been the best. Several stories we've never heard before, and plenty of light witted humor. Dan engages the audience with trivia questions as you walk along. The total distance was about 1.4 miles and you tour 5 different squares. #savannahisopen

Yelp
2 hours well spent this morning. Savannah Dan was informative & entertaining! Highly recommend this tour for visitors.

Margaret B.

Yelp
Savanna Dan is like a history encyclopedia and highly entertaining! Did this walk 10 years ago and just came back to do it again.

Diane A.

Yelp
Savannah Dan's walking tour was well worth the time & money. He was super knowledgeable about this charming city. There is an enormous amount of history that he can just rattle off. I highly recommend!

Yelp
Fantastic story teller, great personality. When I'm back in savannah with my husband I'll take him to meet savannah dan and do his tour. Nice details and history on the various squares, cemetery, churches, culture and city heritage.
google avatar

Yelp
Savannah Dan's tours are not only fascinating but also so much fun. He is a wealth of knowledge but he is also a really interesting and entertaining guy. I would recommend this tour not only to history buffs but Also to those who like to have lots of fun and laughs. Good clean fun!

Terry S.

Yelp
Very knowledgeable and intelligent gentleman. We really felt like we got a good history of Savannah!

Val S.

Yelp
SAVANNAH IS OPEN!! Dan shares his deep knowledge of Georgia and Savanah using a story telling style. Don't miss his tour!
google avatar

Yelp
This is my favorite about Savannah! You need to call in advance to book a spot for the tour and pay him cash at the end of the tour. The tour starts at Johnson Square and is about two hours long. Dan is hilarious; you won't get bored at all. Even if you are not a big fan of history, he will make the time enjoyable. You will learn lots about Savannah's past and present. He is also a great resource if you need some advice on where to eat, and what to do in Savannah. I'd highly recommended this tour if you ever come to Savannah! Definitely one of the highlights of my trip!

Kristin L.

Yelp
On a very rainy day, our 3:30 tour was really terrific. So informative and entertaining, and really felt like it was geared towards us, not just reciting facts. 10 out of 10!
google avatar

Lisa H.

Yelp
We love Savannah! And we love Savannah Dan! We have taken his tour at least four times now over different trips with different friends or family, and we love it just as much each time. If you take just one tour, take Savannah Dan's tour. You'll walk away with so much knowledge about the history of Georgia and Savannah, and with a lot of laughs as well. He's a natural story teller and clearly passionate about history. We will be back again! Thanks Dan!!

Lourdes C.

Yelp
Highly recommend Savannah Dan as a walking tour. He he very knowledgeable, keeps the group engaged and almost great person to ask for foodie suggestions as well as places to visit. Love that he even wears a traditional southern style suit. This is our second time doing the tour with him. He kept our children interested, age ranges from 27-15yrs of age.

Yelp
We just had a tour of Savannah with Savannah Dan. We lucked out and ended up being the only people and it turned into a private tour. Dan is a wealth of information on Savannah (his favorite place in Savannah is their historical society) I liked how he engaged us in the tour which kept us involved and paying attention. He does talk a little fast, so you really have to listen. It was an amazing fun learning experience and I'd highly recommended for teens and adults as there is a lot of walking. Thank you s much Dan! Ps I'm 6' 1" so Dan is pretty tall. Also don't forget to ask Dan about his favorite milk shake at Leopold's Ice Cream Parlor! You won't regret it!

Yelp
When you Yelp "tours" in Savannah, the results are dizzying. Ghost, food, walking, trolley, carriage... How do you know which will be worth it? After all, there's drinking on the street to do! Well, if you're interested in learning how this city came to be in a fun and entertaining way, Savannah Dan is for you! I booked a reservation a few days in advance by calling the number on their website; however, you don't pay $25 (in cash) until the end. Have a pup with you? They are welcome on the tour, as you spend the entire time outside! Even on a Tuesday at 10:00 am, we had a group of around 25 people! I was a little nervous about the crowd size but Savannah Dan's strong presence and loud voice commanded the group with ease. It lasted almost exactly two hours but we had very little questions. I could see it going a little longer with a curious group so would plan on budgeting 2.5 hours out to be safe. I really learned so much about all the main squares, how the statues within them came to be, the cemetery, other landmarks like where Forrest Gump's famous bench once stood, and Savannah Dan's personal foodie faves. You'd be remiss to visit Savannah and not go on at least one tour. I'd say this is a solid one to start with.

Yelp
What a way to spend a perfect day out in Savannah than Savannah Dan's Walking Tour - I came to know about Savannah Dan through the SILB Squad and they never fail when it comes to great recommendations and this did not disappoint. Dan's knowledge of Savannah and his take on it is extremely refreshing and his witty humor made the tour so enjoyable and a fun learning experience. Our group of 5 was pleasantly impressed and we left knowing a little more about this charming city than when we came. If you're looking for an educational walking tour (you do walk a lot but at a leisurely pace) and some great recommendations for food and bev, don't look elsewhere and book this tour. Also it was very intimate which we enjoyed as we are only a group of 7.

Yelp
My wife and I had a tour with Savannah Dan after reading the positive reviews on Yelp. Ft Stewart was my final duty station, this was Veterans Day weekend and I was excited to come visit Savannah after 30 yrs. Savannah and Savannah Dan did not disappoint! We thought that Tropical Storm Nicole would negatively impact the number of people attending today but were surprised to find ~20-25 people show up. Savannah Dan lived up to all of the great reviews. He has a way of bringing history to life in a very entertaining manner. He is full of stories that he shares with an often dramatic flair. I highly recommend!!

Liz S.

Yelp
Savannah Dan is an amazing tour guide!! My boyfriend and I started our Savannah trip with this tour, and it was the perfect way to start and learn about the history of Savannah as well as how it has evolved. He also has great personal food/activity recommendations. Highly recommend hanging with Savannah Dan!!

Yelp
My fiancé, dog, and I had a wonderful time with Savannah Dan, and I highly recommend those visiting this wonderful city to book a tour try his walking tour. Without getting into too much detail, Savannah Dan took about eight of us in a big loop around the city's historical district and eloquently highlighted the city's rich, yet dark, history. Some highlights: -About Oglethorpe, the first European settlers, and local Native Americans. -Famous haunts that reside underneath squares or inside of notable buildings. -Where to taste delicious noms, ranging from fried chicken to ice cream. -Historical events like the Civil Rights sit-ins. (One of the coolest things I learned.) -About Forrest Gump and certain scenes. -Dude dresses up in an old school, white Southern suit! (Thanks for going all-out, Savannah Dan.) Other tidbits: -Make reservations 24-hours prior, via phone. -$25 per person. -Pooch friendly. We brought our dog, Cranberry. (He was very nice to her, too.) -90-120minute tour. He takes his time and answers questions at the end, too. My lady and I went on three tours while in Savannah, and I have to say this one was my favorite.

Yelp
I was super excited to talking a walking tour of Savannah with Savannah Dan because of the great reviews I read about him online. And ultimately, I think he lived up to the great reviews. He arrived on time at the meet up location, and from the start, he presented a humorous and interesting view of Savannah history. We hit most of the major historical spots around Savannah, and he offered a lot of restaurant recommendations on the way. He was nice and professional. A really great job and nice introduction to Savannah. I highly recommend a tour with him for first time visitors. His food recommendations were also spot on.
google avatar

Kristen R.

Yelp
He is so knowledgeable and engaging. We were on a girls weekend and wanted to do a historical tour and this was a great choice! This is the 2nd time I've been on this tour, and it was great once again!
google avatar

Kim E.

Yelp
There is a reason all of us give Savannah Dan 5 stars...he deserves it. Trust us - just book the tour and thank us after.

Kim W.

Yelp
Very informative, engaging and entertaining. Tips/plugs on less touristy opportunities appreciated as was the smaller group size personalized interaction.

C V.

Yelp
Friends that we were traveling with booked this tour! We were in awe of how passionate and informative Dan was! Great tour, great insight, fun and engaging! Dan does not disappoint, he clearly loves what he does and loves his city! If we didn't know any better we had thought he was a trained actor, because his passion and art of engagement was so wonderful!!

Yelp
Couldn't of been any better. So much knowledge & love for Savannah. A pleasure to meet you Dan.

Yelp
Savannah Dan is a wealth of knowledge. A live walking encyclopedia of history and all things Savannah. We just visited Savannah as a family of 5 with a 7, 11 and 14 year old and all enjoyed this walking tour. We took this tour early on in our stay and enjoyed several of his recommendations of places to eat and things to do while visiting. I can not recommend him enough!!

Laura S.

Yelp
SAVANNAH IS OPEN! Savannah Dan is exactly what you want in a tour guide to this genteel, charming southern town--with a lot of hidden secrets! He is extremely knowledgeable about so many aspects of the town's history, culture, cuisine and backstory--all with a fabulous dry wit and seersucker & bow tied-clad demeanor. Savannah Dan's tour blew away the ghost walking tour we did the night before with one of the largest walking tour companies in Savannah.

Chris T.

Yelp
It might be a good tour, however we weren't able to make it due to a Covid scare with our 16 yr old daughter. We called the day before the tour to cancel and while the cancellation was accepted, we were informed after their consideration, they were going to keep our $86 due to a 48 hr cancellation policy. Holding to this policy given the crazy times we're living is bad business in my opinion. Short sighted thinking and negative action would lead me to believe the entire experience might be in question. I don't write many reviews. Usually, I do when things are really right or they're really wrong. Probably don't need to tell you why I'm writing this one. I would personally stay away from this tour. There's MANY others that I bet would be more flexible in case of emergency...especially considering the wellbeing of their customers first before their cancellation policy. BTW, my daughter tested negative and did not have Covid.

Yelp
Savannah is open! I'm so glad we went with Dan! A charming southern gentleman with a touch of sarcasm and a wealth of knowledge. He really made it fun to learn about gorgeous Savannah.

Yelp
I'm no stranger to Savannah so I had never taken a walking tour, opting to see the city on my own route. I was skeptical when my parents booked us on Savannah Dan's tour while on our family vacation but pretty quickly had my doubts put to bed. The long and short of it: 1. Presentation. Sharply dressed in the most southern suit I had ever seen (in 90s heat) Savannah Dan took us around the city for 60 - 90 minutes, clearly explaining historical events and landmarks in a classic southern drawl. I honestly thought that while the tour itself was interesting, it was Dan that sold the whole deal. Some of the content seemed a bit stretched and exaggerated, but at the end of the day you're there to be entertained as you learn. With plenty of jokes and quips, he could have been explaining the differences between stalagmites and stalactites and I would have been entertained. 2. Content. The tour was a mix of historic landmarks (the usual statues, squares and buildings) and out of the ordinary places, like unmarked graveyards and battlegrounds. He was also able to provide us with great restaurant and entertainment recommendations (why do I even need you Yelp?) for the remainder of our trip. Even if you've been to Savannah a ton of times I would recommend Savannah Dan's, especially if you're with people who have never been to the city. It was a great way to spend an hour in the city and appreciate all of the work that was put into the production. I'll be back! Overall Grade: A+

Yelp
I cannot say enough positive things about Savannah Dan and his tours. He is a citizen of Savannah who does this on his own time. It costs $25 for 2 hours (though our tour lasted longer) and I would have paid more. Savannah Dan is quite the character! He wears a seersucker suit, has quite the sense of humor, and is completely honest about Savannah's history and present state. We also took 7, yes 7, of his food recommendations. Since out tour almost a year ago, we have recommended his tour to many of our friends whom all ended up loving him. Savannah Dan was most definitely the highlight of Savannah and maybe even the highlight of our trip through several states.

Yelp
Just took one of Dan stores today! I just got to say it was a very informative and fun journey through this town. My wife and I truly enjoyed asking questions and Dan's unique style of storytelling. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone visiting Savannah.
