How to Throw a Great Dinner Party, According to Chef Stephanie Izard | Eater

"Izard names Saviah Cellars in Walla Walla, WA, as one of her favorite wineries, praising its smaller-production, beautiful wines made by a great family and noting that they produce the house 'Goat' red she uses." - Francky Knapp

Google
We went here during off-season for a tasting after being suggested to us by a local. Helen greeted us at the door and we spent over an hour tasting their different offerings from around the region. Something that really stands out is the Rocks area which imparts a unique, different and special taste tone on the grapes and resulting wine. The minerality and movement in your mouth from those grapes really makes the wine special. I also enjoyed the conversation and fact that the wineries here are friends with each other -- Helen was asking us about where we were going and offered suggestions of other cellars to try based on our taste profiles as well.

Google
Saviah was a wonderful visit with a wide arrange of varietals for red & white fans. Might be the best Cab Sauv I had this weekend and also recommend the Barbara.

Google
This place!! I had ordered some bottles from here a few years back and loved them. Finally had the chance to visit in person. The place is smaller and not perched on a hill, but the tasting room is beautiful, the story is great and the wine is muah!! We were lucky to have Jill help us. She was fantastic. Hilarious, knowledgeable and great service! I joined the wine club because I truly liked it all. Can’t wait to visit again!

Google
Great wines across different price points, you can find something for everyone here - and it will not disappoint! Staff was so helpful and friendly - my wife forgot her purse and they immediately contacted us and kept it safe. My only issue is the hurt on the bank account from buying too many good bottles, but you only live once.

Google
Brought my family to Walla Walla from Saint Louis to experience the wine industry. Spent time at Saviah….WOW outstanding time and experience….Having a case shipped home so I can share delicious wine with other friends in St. Louis. Jon did an amazing job…. He is very educated and personable and did a great job sharing his knowledge with our group…. I strongly recommend people making a trip to the Walla Walla area and spending time with Saviah Cellars…. You won’t be disappointed. Great job with amazing people.

Google
Saviah was unbelievable at everything they did for us with our Walla Walla wine experience from St. Louis. The atmosphere was A+, very kid friendly and they accommodated over 25 in our party. John, our wine enthusiast, was incredible to work with; very knowledgeable and extremely accommodating. The wine is out of this world! Highly recommend Saviah next time you are in Walla Walla or need an outstanding wine.

Melissa P.

Google
We last minute adjusted our reservation time as we were running late, they were very accommodating. As soon as we arrived they had all 9 of our tastings delivered to the table very quickly and the staff were very attentive and friendly! Wine was pretty good, bought a bottle of the cuvée and rose. They have olives, cheese and crackers to snack on. Overall a great experience.

Google
I have been a fan of Saviah ever since they were just doing tastings on a plank over two barrels in a shed. The minute I tried their wine I knew they would be a big deal. That is why I keep coming back every time I am in Walla Walla! Their wines are rich and bold, while remaining smooth and sophisticated. Of course, you can't beat the rocks district Funk coined by their wine-maker. Very distinct and fun, I have picked it out in blind tastings with ease before. I look forward to many more years of visits!

Yelp
Really enjoyed our walk in tasting at Saviah. They have a wide variety of red wines. The Rocks vineyard wines were our favorites. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It's great that they waive tasting fees with wine purchase.
google avatar

Yelp
Simply perfect. In the middle of the vineyard with a wonderful patio as well as a lovely inside. Exceptionally kind and knowledgeable staff, this is one of our family go to's. And most of all the wine is awesome! Be sure to say hello to Carlos, the tasting room manager. He is a joy!
google avatar

Tim S.

Yelp
Wine and chocolate for Valentine's tasting but year round this is my favorite place. Kind, knowledgeable hosts. Always extra tastes. I am a fan of the Nebbiolo and Tempranillo's. This is always my first stop when visiting Walla

Jess C.

Yelp
Showed up a little after 4 and the staff was pleasant. Our friends were members and they treated us all equally. Since we were unable to do a tasting we were given the opportunity to have small carafes and try each other's single pours. Absolutely lovely time.

Don M.

Yelp
WOW! Amazing wines in a gorgeous tasting room. Jodi and Kari were attentive, friendly and super delightful. We joined the wine club because EVERY wine was fantastic.
google avatar

James J.

Yelp
Carlos was very charming and made us feel very welcome. Want to go back to experience the full Saviah and determine if worth a 5-star review.
google avatar

Chloe F.

Yelp
Beautiful stop with incredible service. We drank perfect wine while the team provided such a fun visit.
google avatar

Randy C.

Yelp
Denise told us about the 2014 Reserve Cab Sav & we were very glad she did. Honestly I don't remember the rest of the things we liked since it was such a long time ago, but I remember that :-)
google avatar

Becky C.

Yelp
Eh it was ok. The wine wasn't my fav, it was super busy ( seems like a lot of yours had just stopped off here), the experience was more like conveyor line.... but the tasting was free... I would skip this one if I were you.
google avatar

Patrick K.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and even better vino. 2017 Barbera and 2019 Star Meadows (90% Sauvignon Blanc and 10% Viognier) were our favorites. Staff is super friendly knowledgeable and attentive. If you're wine tasting in Walla Walla don't miss this gem.
google avatar

Valerie L.

Yelp
Great wine, service & atmosphere. Bought more wine we planned!! We'll definitely do a return visit

Yelp
We had a nice tasting at Saviah. The wines were very good, but weren't hitting that "sweet spot" for me. I did pick up a few bottles for drinkable souvenirs. My palete remains old world, and nothing in the States can touch a great Bordeaux, Brunello, or Ribera del Duero. Yet, that's my taste, not yours. Go and enjoy Saviah.
google avatar

Rose L.

Yelp
The wine was good. However, You didn't get to experience the wine because the server was not controlling the room. The room had 10-15 people in it and he was at a tiny little table in the corner (they had a large wine bar but the huge bar was only being used to sell wine which is not the best use of space) and he was not making sure people were all getting tastes. He was being monopolized by a few people who were stuck right in front of his tiny table asking questions. Which is fine but he needed to engage with other people and help the flow. We walked in a waited behind the many people who were at the bar. About 5 minutes of waiting we realized we were suppose to grab a glass on the way in. Which is very strange, and made us feel like we were at a coffee shop not a nice winery. They had a tiny little chalk board that said "grab a glass" not a prominent spot so it wasn't obvious. We had to fight to the front of the tiny bar to get each taste. It wasn't great. There were only two people working. One giving out tastes and the other setting up for private tastes. They hardly talked to customers. I know sometimes it's difficult because it was fairly busy but when you come to a winery the easiest thing to do should be able to get a little wine. Then when you were done there was a container to put your dirty glass again another sign and not anyone telling you. It felt like you were in a packed bar and you had to fight to get the bartenders attention to get a drink. The wine was good and that was really all this place has.

Joe H.

Yelp
High expectations, subpar experience. Had an older gentleman giving us tasting notes, which went way too fast, we're all at once, and seemed like a regurgitation of the tasting notes on the menu. After never being checked on while tasting, and not enjoying our last two wines, we went to pay for our tastings. The older gentleman noted how quickly we went though the tasting, note, he never checked on us once during our 15 minute stay, so we discussed our thoughts on the last two wines. Luckily the younger woman who ended up closing us out wanted to offer another taste to us, which ended up being our favorite. I would have rated this experience a 2 star if it were not for the final experience of the younger woman stepping in.

Christy H.

Yelp
We tasted there on Thursday 10-13 and had some of the best service ever, along with great wines!! Thank you!!!
google avatar

Caitlyn Y.

Yelp
Amazing wines, friendly staff, gorgeous setting. What more could you want? This was our favorite stop on our Walla Walla trip. The Barbers and Viognier were our favorites! This is a must visit!
google avatar

Bob R.

Yelp
THIS PLACE IS FANTASTIC! Seriously, the wine is ALL so good, the service was great, and the patio setting was comfortable and enjoyable. We turned in here on a whim, and I'm so glad we did! We absolutely loved this winery! I highly recommend it to anyone going to Walla Walla. They had just hosted an art show when we were there, and the platter of cheeses and chocolates was a nice complement to the wines.
google avatar

Sandra M.

Yelp
The people are friendly and easy-going. The surroundings are beautiful and peaceful. Take the time to enjoy the view and the people of Saviah Cellars! There is a lot of room for kids to run and play outside, away from any vines, while the parents are tasting wine.
google avatar

Kelli J.

Yelp
We so enjoyed the hospitality during our visit to this Walla Walla Winery. We enjoyed the location, the wine tasting and the friendliness of the staff!
google avatar

Hungry K.

Yelp
Kennedy is a cool chick! She knows her wine. This winery and cool quaint tasting room has some good wines. The tempranillo is a must try. Prices can be a little on the high end for some of the wines. But there are many in the $20 range that will satisfy you. Stop by and see for yourself

Vo R.

Yelp
Nordstrom customer service & product for an affordable price point. This was our favorite place to taste during our 4 day visit. Ask about The Rocks District. A nice 1/2 hour bike ride from DT Walla Walla too.
google avatar

Dan H.

Yelp
Are we not winos? We are not winos. From my last few reviews it sounds like we might be winos, but that is not the case. We were in Walla Walla. Prime wine location. Why not do a few tastings and come home with a few bottles of wine? You only live once. Sue liked the name of this place and it popped up in conversation at the other 2 wineries we went to so we decided to make Saviah our last stop. Glad that we did as we met Steve there and he was super friendly and super knowledgeable about Saviah Cellars as well as things in general. We probably spent about 40 minutes or so here. Again we were pretty much the only people here. There was another woman who came in just after us, but she was there and gone within 10 minutes. We took the time to learn more about Saviah and their wines from our pourer/overall good guy Steve. It was a very good time. We brought a few bottles. I found a nice late harvest Gewurztraminer that wasn't on the tasting, but that Steve happily poured for us. Took home a bottle of that and their Riesling. Surprising as I enjoy reds more. All in all a very good experience.

Yelp
Very knowledgeable and welcoming staff. Beautiful grounds and outdoor seating area. Highly recommend making a stop here. Their Barbera is insanely good, especially for the price point.

K P.

Yelp
From the moment we walked in, this was a great experience! We went for the wine and chocolate event, and it was perfect. The wine was some of the best I have had in Walla Walla, especially for the price point. The staff was amazing and I can't wait to return.
google avatar

Rachel H.

Yelp
Very nice people pouring highly touted wines (some WA State Gold Medal winners.) For some reason, these wines didn't completely rock my palate, but were certainly solid. The place itself is well situated, simple and family-friendly, which we really appreciate.
google avatar

Alik W.

Yelp
Friendly tasting room staff that doesn't mind well-behaved kids, a nice setting near some other good wineries (I'm partial to Sleight of Hand next door), and pretty solid wine that's poured without a tasting fee. My budget is tight these days, but I'll be hunting for their "Jack" line at my local stores.
google avatar

Charles H.

Yelp
Probably our favorite tasting experience in Walla Walla: nice wines, reasonably, priced, nice snacks, super-cool lady pouring in the tasting room, open 'till 5:00. They're great with kids. Definitely recommend!
google avatar

Flora C.

Yelp
This is the winner for my 2012 winery road trip to Walla Walla this year. I found a brand that both parties enjoy because either I love or he does not. Visa verse. This time, we both agreed.

Noah C.

Yelp
Best wine and best staff! Hands down!!!! Went to many wineries in the area (four previously) and this place had the best wines in our opinion. We were there about closing time and all the taxi services were busy for hours, on top of that our scheduled ride canceled on us. Not only did the winery let us hang out while they closed down, one of the employees drove us back to our hotel! They had a great act of kindness that put them over the top in our books, but the bottom line is their wines were the best in our opinion and that's what we are all here for. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Thank you Emma

Yelp
We visited here on a busy Saturday with a new server on board. Very friendly, he just didn't know enough about the wine or winery to provide anything significant. That aside, the room itself was large enough to allow multiple tasting groups and adorned with a local artist that had some very good paintings on the walls. We liked a few of their wines, purchasing two, but it took a while to pay for them as the crowd had surged. Overall this was a good visit but could be a great one with a few adjustments in their service. We will be back to see if things have inproved.
google avatar

Anthony B.

Yelp
We visited a bunch of wineries and Saviah was in my top three (Northstar and Dunham my other faves). The tasting room is not the fanciest, but the wines were so good I had to join the club.
google avatar

Maria B.

Yelp
We came by the weekend after Labor Day. Their staff was very friendly but their wine wasn't all that great. We were able to taste some of their grapes as they were being harvested.
google avatar

Stephanie E.

Yelp
Taster was very nice... wines were good. We learned a lot at this one!
google avatar

Mr B.

Yelp
Pick up a glass as you enter the tasting room. Complimentary tasting. We really liked the Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Verdot. A recommended stop.
google avatar

Neil L.

Yelp
Wines were great. However, what makes a wine tasting wonderful is the staff. These guys were great! Denise was very knowledgable and helpful and always willing to indulge our pesky questions.
google avatar

Dalila M.

Yelp
Extremely memorable. I will never forget the visit I had with my 9 collegues/friends. We were lucky that Rich (Winemaker) was there to show us around and build our knowledge on the wines. His great sense of humor, passion and hospitality really left a mark on my group and made the experience that much more exceptional. Delicious wine, great venue, wonderful time! Don't miss this stop on your visit to Walla Walla!
google avatar

Rebecca B.

Yelp
I'm not sure how I feel about Saviah and the wines. We stopped in on a Friday and the tasting room host was friendly but the tasting seemed a little disorganized perhaps? I knew that they have several wine awards which are proudly displayed yet none of the wines I tried were that memorable. There were several on the list for sale that have better potential, and I asked about them, but none were open to try and we don't buy without trying. One plus is that there was no tasting fee. We did buy an Une Valle red blend that will make a good complement to fall and winter dinners.
google avatar

Timi B.

Yelp
Oh my goodness! We absolutely love this winery... and what is not to love??? I love everyone of their wines and the facility is beautiful but the people are so friendly and make you feel right at home... one of my favorite stops in Walla Walla! Thanks!

Elena V.

Yelp
At the recommendation of another winery in Walla Walla, a group of friends and I made our way to Saviah for the first time last month. I loved the wine and the staff, but I had just fallen into some tight financial times, so I wasn't able to buy a bottle of wine like I otherwise definitely would have. So, I had to at least leave a review, since I had such a nice experience there. First and foremost, Saviah had great wines. I don't usually love Washington whites, but there were several that I would have bought. My husband took down a few notes on his phone about several of the reds, too, so we'll be able to purchase them later. The atmosphere of the tasting room was great. The young girl pouring our wine was SO friendly, and she was a total sweetie when my friend broke his glass! She really had the perfect personality for the job and really engaged all of us. Her boss should be very happy that she's representing the winery. Saviah was featuring a local photographer, and they were nice enough to put out snacks for the visitors. That was greatly appreciated. Again, I was sorry to have left empty handed, but I will definitely be buying their wines in the future, re-visiting their tasting room, and of course recommending Saviah to others!

Sydney W.

Yelp
We had a wonderful day exploring Walla Walla and this Winery was the best! Small and intimate plus some great wines. We loved their red blend but they are almost out so I won't post the name. No charge for tasting and a great host to take care of us!
google avatar

Stacey E.

Yelp
I love going to Saviah! The Jack Riesling is my favorite. My brother in law asked me to bring two bottles of their Chardonnay for Christmas , I thought I would just run to the store. Not sold in stores! I called the winery to find out their hours. The closed before I got off work, closed Christmas Eve . What to do ? They offered to deliver it to me at work !!!!! Now that is customer service!!!! Thank you
google avatar

Wendy V.

Yelp
Knowledgeable staff, excellent wines. This was an impulse visit and ended up being one of our favorites in our trip. We loved the cab franc and the barbera, but there were so many others that stood out as well. Free tasting!
google avatar

Rachel D.

Yelp
Friendly experienced staff. The red wines are off the wall fantastic! their cab has to be my favorite of the area, if not my top 5 ever (and i'm an avid wine drinker). Free tastings and re pours. All their wines are at great prices
google avatar

Clinton H.

Yelp
Okay. The wines are only three stars. And we tasted in the warehouse because the tasting room was being completely re-done. They got the extra star because they're what my grandfather calls "good people." They obviously love wine making, and they didn't try pressing any wines on us. Just wanted us to enjoy it. We did end up getting a couple bottles of the Guerstiminer (yeah, I butchered the spelling) which I was very impressed with, even though I'm not a sweet wine drinker (my other half is, though.) Apparently, in about a month or so, they're going to allow you to create your own wine by combining different varietals directly from the barrel. They're going to cork, wax, and label it and everything. I just think that's a neat idea, and we'll probably go back for that.
google avatar

Ben B.

Yelp
Great affordable wines. We brought our dog in for our tasting and the people could not have been more friendly. They had some cool oak barrel furniture up for sale. They did not have the killer view or setting that some of the wineries had but they had the best value wines we found.
google avatar

Dan H.

Yelp
We had a really poor experience at this winery. Going to 8+ wineries in Walla Walla over the previous 24 hours, this one was by far the worst. The staff is checked out and not informative, an experience we had nowhere else. The system at the winery is disorganized and led to a frustrating atmosphere among winery guests. Most importantly it has sub-par wine, a great deal of discussion about the poor quality of the wine was had among guests during our visit. I would not recommend this winery
google avatar

Judy W.

Yelp
Great wines, very friendly staff, and very fair prices. We are members there, love stopping by, they always make us seem so welcome. Exceptional CUSTOMER SERVICE!

Randy O.

Yelp
Wonderful on so many levels; Beautiful landscape, warm , knowledgeable servers, and excellent, reasonably priced wines. No tasting fee!! When your wine is this good you know people will buy if they try. Don't miss it!

Jennifer M.

Yelp
Great service and local flavor! We have a mellow dog, and we all were welcome here! We will be back next time we come through!
