Food tours are one of my favorite ways to experience a new city! Since I only had 2 days in Seattle, I wanted to make the most of my time so booked the Gourmet Seattle tour!
Our small group of 8 met up with our tour guide, Heather, at Orfeo to start our adventures. Heather is extremely bubbly, friendly, and knowledgeable not only about the various restaurants we went to, but also their chefs, the dishes, and general Seattle knowledge and whatnot! She really kept everyone engaged throughout the whole day!
Our first dish at Orfeo was sausage and peppers atop a crispy polenta triangle paired with a bubbly wine. I had never had polenta that crispy before and it was delicious, not to mention I'm a huge sausage/peppers fan! Heather's knowledge of this specific chef that started this restaurant empire was very interesting!
Next stop was Serious Pie where we were brought into the back pizza making kitchen! Awesome to know they have group pizza making classes there, I'm sure that would b a fun experience! We had both the margherita pie and the mushroom pie, both were amazing. The mushroom pie actually tied one other dish (see after this one) for my favorite of the day!
After pizza, we strolled over to Steelhead Diner for the delectable razor clam chowder topped with truffle oil and paired with a white wine. The chowder was my other favorite dish of the day, it had such a deep meaty flavor to it and just hugged my insides lol.
After getting all warm and fuzzy, we stopped into Heartwood Provisions where we enjoyed the wagyu beef jerky paired with a beer cocktail. The jerky had an excellent kick to it which was easily cooled by the cocktail. Heather had explained to us that we'd be getting a VIP card at the end of the tour to get discounts at all of their partner locations (big list!) but HP didn't participate in that deal... instead they gave us a $25 coupon! It's a good thing I checked out their menu because I ended up coming back here for dinner to get their most expensive dish - when else would I get the opportunity to enjoy a wagyu steak dinner for almost half off??
Right down the street from HP was Von's which was super interesting both for their small batch (and cheaper) spirits but also their sourdough pasta! Seeing the spinning spirits barrels when we walked in was neat. This pairing included the pasta with a lighter style beer. The pasta had such an interesting texture to it, this was my second favorite dish after the combo pizza/chowder. And Heather made sure to tell us several times that they offer $5 martinis all the time, which I came to enjoy later that evening after my dinner at Heartwood Provisions.
Last but certainly not least was Fran's Chocolates where we learned some more history and enjoyed 3 different chocolates - the best saved for last of course! It was Obama's favorite chocolate and I can definitely see why! It had caramel inside and it was topped with some big hunks of sea salt which gave it that added umph and also a nice finishing texture!
This was a fantastic tour and I definitely recommend it for anyone wanting to try out some great Seattle classics. Heather was such a lovely hostess, had a blast with her and the others in my tour group!
