This is regarding online ordering: I have been ordering from Savory Spice for many years. Last year, they advertised a Black Friday sale that simply said "Spend $100, Get $100". Great! It's the holidays, and these are good gifts. I purchased a gift set and waited for the code, which didn't come. Customer service informed me the $100 credit wouldn't be available until January. This was misleading when advertised as a "sale", but I figured I would wind up using the credits later on, and I went ahead and purchased another $100 gift bundle. Now I am trying to use the credits, and I've been informed that they are issued in $20 increments - ONE per order. I wrote to customer service because this is super inconvenient, but also prohibitive. Many of their items are more than $20. So anything I want to purchase over $20 (vanilla extract, gift sets, etc), the remainder has to be paid out of pocket by me despite having $200 in credit with the company. While they did send me a shipping code to use, they were entirely inflexible. Using the credits is labor intensive and restrictive to certain items, and I've had to go through and choose things based on price to add each cart up to $22, apply the codes, and then still pay the remainder. I'm extremely disappointed and I am no longer a Savory Spice customer. I will source herbs and spices from a company that values their customers and doesn't play cheesy games with "sales".

Been here twice, absolutely excellent. Roger was awesome- friendly, knowledgeable and super courteous. I can't recommend this place enough.

Google
Wonderful place!! Customer service is great, they are always happy to share ideas about their spices. Tell you how to use and what's best for what foods. It's a small place but packed with lots of dining ideas. Bourbon chicken spice pack is so delicious. As well as their dip packs. Get on the frequent buyer to save money.

Google
By far THE best spice shop in CLT. Always crave the Homestead seasoning for breakfast potatoes and just used their butter chicken packet for an easy and delicious dinner. 11/10!

Love Savory Spice in Charlotte North Carolina. Such a friendly staff and they have such an amazing array of different spices. I love that almost everything you buy they give you recipes and easy ways to use them. Such a great place to buy local gifts as well. I’m definitely bringing all of my out of town visitors here!

Tina Gale

Google
Always well stocked, sales associates are always helpful, lending ideas of what spice goes with what food. They have recipe cards to go along with spices. I've tried a few, and they were very successful. You'll find everything from salt to grilling spices. Dip mixes and all kinds of baking spices and flavorings. Their spices are fresh and have not been sitting on the shelves forever. Prices are comparable to the quality of the spices.

Google
Had such a lovely experience here. Their staff are helpful & welcoming, and they have such a wide array of products. Their gift sets made shopping pretty easy though. Thank you to the wonderful woman who helped us pick out our sets! Wish I had caught her name

Google
Incredible spice selection! The staff are always so helpful and incredibly knowledgeable about the products. They also offer local NC goods from vendors around the state like pickles, jams, and teas. Highly recommend for the pro-chef or the home cook or the novice foodie!

Yelp
Last minute Christmas shopping! I forgot how much my wife loves Cloister Honey https://www.yelp.com/biz/cloister-honey-charlotte?hrid=6-ODKBpvyPL0K7Ihrw1mTg especially the whipped one with ghost pepper. I bought a bunch during the Charlotte Made series a few years ago https://www.yelp.com/biz/charlotte-made-cloister-honey-charlotte?hrid=GUv_3RsM5wWYjsKeaisXdA and since then, I usually pick up a jar at the 1897 Market https://www.yelp.com/biz/1897-market-charlotte?hrid=zWYqJZ1cbjMrDUuT1hborQ in the Charlotte Douglas International Airport https://www.yelp.com/biz/charlotte-douglas-international-airport-clt-charlotte-3?hrid=Sq1KJ1SsqNe6dKuwbjExvA, but I haven't been flying lately. Where can I find it in Charlotte? I pinged them on their website chat this week and asked where it is for sale. They suggested Savory Spice and since I haven't been there (another review!), I made it this morning at opening time. Yes, they're open on Christmas Eve. Other than the honey, lots of spices organized by region. Grilling spices. Baking spices. Cocktail spices. Prices clearly marked and everything displayed for easy browsing. Pretty much everything you need to add flavor to whatever you're cooking. And yes, Cloister Honey! Savory Spice is on the north side of Atherton Mill, next to O-Ku. [Review 16455 overall - 3152 in North Carolina - 1963 of 2021.]

Yelp
I wouldn't say I'm a chef or anyone who can even hold their own in the kitchen. But "Just in case"! One day I'm feeling a little dangerous. I have ALL kind spices at my fingertips to make something amazing. And I have to thanks Savory Spice for it.. During Covid. I got a little obsessive. And thanks to their online ordering system. It was easy to see what I don't have and order it right then.. The orders are ready for pick up within 24hrs to 48hrs. Each of the bag have a month and year written on it. Because Savory gave me that idea. I went ham on everything in my house with the same system. All sauces to even my skincare. Marked with month and year.. Works out nicely.. I definitely see the difference with the quality of their spices from the smells, colors to how potent it is when it's added to your food. And did I also mention how they have something that you can't find anywhere else! Like the chocolate peppermint SUGAR. Yes sugar!!!! Sooo local Yelpers gave this local small business a try.. they are very knowledgeable with it comes to spices.. And you definitely can tell the difference because your dishes will come out amazingly.

Yelp
What an exceptional place. I love coming into Savoy. The staff is always helpful. If you are looking to experiment or create a stable this place is wonderful. I love building my spice cabinet to create and cultivate unique dishes. The freshly milled spices help dishes come alive. The seasonings are color-coded, and they are lined up based on their specific use in geographical locations. So, now you don't have a reason not to try that amazing Indian dish or complex Asian fusion creation you saw on insta.

Yelp
My favorite spice shop ever! Where we live we have two local ones not even more than 3 miles away, it is my go to place for any spices. You can buy it by the jar or you can buy a jar and have it refilled when you run out. What I loved about this store is they had so many different local things that we don't carry at our stores. I loved all of the cooking gadgets. I WOULD recommend this place. So fun.

Yelp
I went to 3 other stores in Charlotte looking for maple extract and finally found it here! This place has lots of different spices, some of which you can purchase in bulk which is great if you only need a small amount. They also seasoning packets for weeknight meals. None of the bottled products they sell have a seal under the lid which bothers me... Parking can be scarce depending on what time you go because Atherton Mills is a popular shopping center in South End. Savory Spice is located next door to O-Ku Sushi, on the right side of the building.

Yelp
I had no idea what this place was before going here. I've passed this location various times thinking that is was a place to eat. However, I had to go here to get something due to being referred. I needed to get a specific type of cinnamon! I was amazed by the type of spices and range of places they came from. The customer service was amazing they pointed me in the right direction! Explained everything to me and made great suggestions to what would be the best option. If you need spices that are more catered to your needs or gourmet spices this is the place!

Yelp
I loved this spice shop when I first went a few years ago in their old location. It was the first spice shop I was ever in and they're very free and open with you opening and tasting the spices. My first time, I spent a lot of time looking at everything (and tasting a lot). I'm from out of town and ventured up to the area and apparently arrived a minute before they closed. Totally my mistake for not checking the hours, but 6p is a little early, especially in a plaza with a few dining options. The ladies working were able to help me find something. They were bringing me bottles, letting me try stuff, and not rushing me out the door. I did buy one item but didn't get the full experience and didn't get to browse and look for something different. Many spice shops don't encourage you to taste and smell unless you ask and get their permission, which for a specialty spice store makes it hard to decide. I love the fact that Savory Spice lets you taste all you want (within reason, of course). I'd like to come back next time I'm in town, but their weekday hours make it difficult. So 5 stars for the store and the staff, but if I can't shop there due to my work schedule when I'm in town, I can't really make it 5. I'm sure there are others that can't make it between 10a and 6p.

Yelp
This is such a cute place to shop for spices & sauces. I visited yesterday for the first time and I have to say I was very impressed. The seasonings are color coded and divided into groups. I was specifically searching for a lemon pepper seasoning but came out with so much more. I can't wait to try them. I also bought a new bbq sauce which I am in love with. I didn't have a lot of time to browse because the hubs kept rushing me ;). I will be returning soon!

Yelp
The people at Savory Spice shop are great and if you love to cook or just need a little bit of spice for a dish then this is the place to be. They have a large variety and you can smell and taste every spice before you buy it! The minimum purchase is 1/2 oz. (which is roughly a tablespoon) and for most blended spices it's around $1 for that amount. It can seem a bit expensive but it's a premium for good quality and smaller amounts. Each spice purchase comes with a labeled plastic baggy. For the more shy yelpers, here's how it goes (although I'm sure they will offer to explain in store as well): 1. Browse spices 2. Taste and smell via the labeled taster jars! (seriously, you gotta know what you're getting into and each spice usually has multiple varieties) 3. Let an employee know that you've selected your spices and s/he will package it for you. 4. Wait or randomly browse more 5. Pay at the front. I can't wait to stop here again.

Yelp
Savory Spice Shop is an excellent place to go for the spices you need. If you ask for curry, you will be offered numerous selections. It's the same for most spices. I never knew there were so many varieties to select from. On this visit, I was looking for vanilla beans. Yes, they had them. The Mexican beans were out of stock. The Madagascar beans were available but apparently, the most recent bean crop didn't go too well. Thus, the prices are upwards of $5/bean! Having already visited the other location, in this case, I opted to try other sources.

Yelp
I want to try my spices before I give all five stars, so I'll be back to update after. However, the customer service was amazing! I was walked around the store at my pace and the smells were exciting to my nose! The spice bags come with instructions on the back so you know exactly what you need for a full meal! Low salt options, ethnic cuisine clearly labeled, and order/pick up service offered.. WIN! My first experience here was memorable and enlightening. I cannot wait to try these out and come back to try more!

Yelp
I popped back in to this local gem, recently, to refill my staples, and realized... HEY! I need to rate these awesome folks on Yelp!! I'll start by saying that I have NEVER come into this store without receiving a very warm welcome... and I've been coming here for a while. I generally come in for their roasted granulated garlic powder, hot smoked Spanish paprika, and organic ceylon cinnamon (aka REAL cinnamon). That being said, they have a smorgasbord of amazing options from the full range of Cloister Honeys to blends of herbs and spices, rubs, salts, peppers, bitters, drink mixers, books, and a wealth of knowledge on how to use all of these items. I think I was just tired of paying absurd prices at grocery stores for tiny amounts of already semi-rancid spices... THIS store puts that all behind me. These spices are fragrant, flavorful, and fresh... AND, as an added bonus, I create less waste by reusing my glass jars at home, and buying these spices bagged in bulk! The shop workers are always happy to bag up any amount of any spice you require. Lastly, if you're looking to give interesting gifts that will actually be used and enjoyed, this really is the place! I love giving consumables as gifts, and again, their honeys, spice mixes, rubs, extracts, etc... will make fine gift bags or baskets for ANY food lover / cook / baker in your life. I will be shopping here for a LONG time to come!

Yelp
Here is the place to go if you want to buy unique and useful gifts for people. Someone once told me that the best gift you can give to someone is a gift that can be used up. There are a million different spice offerings here, even separated out by region of the world. Some of the spices are bundled into gift packages. For instance, they had a bundle of spices that are local to the Carolinas and would be a great gift for someone outside of Charlotte (like a visitor to our city). They also had a bundle of chocolate related spices. I love popcorn spices and there was a bundle of those too. I was particularly intrigued by the Mexican MOLE spice and may have to return to buy a bunch of it. There selection of infused honeys was also impressive. Who wouldn't want to try Chipolte infused honey? THIS place definitely adds spice to the Queen City, in more ways than one.

Yelp
I think it's pretty obvious that Savory Spice Shop produces delicious spices! This particular location gets a 10 out of 10 for their customer service. I stopped in while waiting on a reservation at a nearby restaurant. I was immediately greeted and then helped as I sniffed my way through the store. The options for spices were much larger than I expected, as I've only ever been gifted their spices and never been in a store myself. I was most impressed by the soup mixes and spices that were set up for meals by day. I love that.

Yelp
The terrific selection and friendly staff would make this a regular stop for me if I lived in Charlotte. We were greeted promptly upon walking in the door, and the staff member introduced herself and the other woman working there at the time. Upon learning it was our first visit, she gave us a basic overview of the store and its setup. Most noteworthy, she pointed out the sample jar that could be found with most spices. She told us that when should feel free to pour some out, smell them and/or taste them. Any excess that we dispensed, she said, could be poured onto the floor and they'd clean up later! The selection was also terrific. They have a large variety of individual spices as well as some terrific mixes and rubs. This would definitely be a first stop for me if I was looking for a hard to find spice.
google avatar

Diana J.

Yelp
This place is excellent for all your herb and spice needs. The spices are ground fresh on a frequent basis so you will not find old spices. The people are very helpful and will let you sniff/taste a sample of pretty much everything in there before you buy it (if you don't see a sample jar just ask one of the staff to get you some). There are also discounts on already very reasonable prices, and now a loyalty program. You can get a variety of spice mixes here, in varying sizes so you can buy just what you need or stock up. Everything from Chinese Five Spice, to Ras El Hanout, to Baharat. Also available are dip and dressing mixes, hot cocoas, and a variety of salts and peppers. Since I shop at the farmers market at Atherton Mill frequently this is also a regular stop, and in the several times I've been there the staff has always been extremely helpful. All with prices that are much lower than you'd expect.

Yelp
Who's brilliant idea was this?! I visited the store not expecting to purchase anything, but ended up leaving with quite a few things. They have all the spices in the world (or atleast the one that I know of in MY world;-) here and many of which I didn't even know existed. The staff is super-nice and helpful. Upon entering the store a lady immediately offered to provide an overview of the store which was very helpful. They will package items in amounts other than what may be available on the shelf and even don't mind if you taste them. The store is very small, but the space is organized very well and has an adorable layout. They also have a few gift-type items. Pricing is reasonable. I would recommend this store if you are looking for "anything and everything" seasonings.
google avatar

Candyce B.

Yelp
This is such an adorable shop! Not to mention that it smells delicious the moment you walk in! I was looking for some curry spices for an Indian dish I found online and wanted to try and make. I didn't have any of the spices and my co-worker suggested giving this place a try. I'm so glad that I did! When I walked in I was greeted immediately and I told her what I was looking for and what I was trying to make. She was extremely patient and took her time explaining all the different options. I smelled so many different options and I found quite few that I liked! I love that they offer 1 or 2 oz bags so you can get just enough to try a new recipe. I settled on three different curry seasonings and while she was packing it up I was able to take a look at all their other goodies. I feel like that have everything here! The next time I find something that I want to try this will definitely be by first stop! Oh and if blending spices isn't your thing, not to fear they have pre-made blends with the recipe on the back! For the level of service, the amount of spice options and the price point. They deserve more than the 5 stars!

Yelp
Add a little spice to your life! Today was opening day for this small business and they were great! The owners were so friendly and excited! It is located in the same area as Atherton Mills Market and Vin Master Wine. Talk about a one stop shop for making a delicious meal...and to make the meal flavorful you gotta get the right spices. If you are looking for a nice hostess gift or stocking stuffers, you'll find it here. They have some great spice kits for BBQ, Surf & Turf, or hot cocoa (just to name a few). They'll make you a bottle for however much you want. When you are finished with the bottle, you can come in and refill it! Yay for reusing!! I had a great shopping experience and to top it off, I saved 5%...you can to if you stop by this week. Each referral you send will increase your savings by 1%...whoo-hoo. Bring your own bag, support small business, and add some flavor to your food!

Yelp
This shop is my secret weapon in the kitchen. They carry everything from your basic spice needs to spice blends from around the world to extracts to bitters! Here are a few of my favorites that I come back for again and again: - Truffle salt. Yes it's pricey, but a little goes a long way. My favorite way to use it is on pop corn. Yes, you've read that right. - Caribbean All-Purpose Curry Powder. This spice is spicy and is my favorite to use on roasted chicken. - Peruvian Chile Lime Seasoning Blend. I use it for tacos or ceviche and sometimes roasted chicken. - Lavender and Lemon extracts. I use a combination of these for baking and making crepes. YUM! - Vanilla Bean Peppermint Sugar. The perfect addition to coffee during the holiday season. The staff is very helpful and always willing to help you find the right spice to elevate your cooking.

Yelp
Awesome spot! Upon a conversation from my friend who wanted to check this place out.. We came upon a neat find. Location - it is right by the Aberthon Mills sign, over to your right. Place inside - When you walk through the door, you find yourself in a savory and spice shop full of jars, bags, and canisters of different ingredients. I like the set up and feel of the place, where everything is fresh, and you can go bonkers with spices and savories you desire. Wooden floors, shelves, and easy to see items, seems clean and organic. Service - Friendly and nice staff who are willing to help you out and get you what you need. What I bought? I bought vanilla beans that are A LOT cheaper than Whole Foods, and a bottle of Thyme. Perks - If you bring back any empty bottles of spices that are done, you get a discount on your purchase :) Pretty nifty!

Yelp
I don't know why their spices are so much better than what you can buy in the grocery store, but they do. Their taco seasoning is my favorite. Ever since using it on tacos I can't use the packages from the grocery store. It is so much better. I also love their selection of ghost pepper, which is so hard to find in a pure form without being combined with other peppers and flavors. The owners are very nice and everyone is helpful and offers creative uses for new dishes.

Yelp
The only place I buy spices now! I've been slowly replacing all of my herbs and spices with those from Savory Spice Shop. It's been my go-to the past couple of years. Everything is fresh and flavorful. The customer service is phenomenal and they really get to know their customers. The reward program is free and honors return customers nicely. I love that I can pay a little less and take home a bag of a spice to fill a bottle I previously purchased. I also prefer to buy my honey and vanilla at Savory, as well as some of the other great local products they offer. Finally, don't forget about this place for a quick and easy gift. It's especially great for a housewarming or hostess gift and you can grab a nicely packaged spice set for under $15, affordable and impressive!
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
This store has all the spices that you will ever need in cooking. And in any type of good cooking the fresher your spices that better. I went looking for some of my specialty spices that I normally can't find in a marginal food store and they had then for half price of what I would pay. So, They get 5 stars for having every spice I need, being 1/2 price for most (strange) spices I need. And just being friendly and helpful. Oh yea.. This chain is NOT dog friendly. But the mall we walked around is. ;-)
google avatar

Abby L.

Yelp
This is a great little shop. The staff is so helpful and friendly! I was very impressed. I love how they have little samples available. They sell some olive oils and sauces, spices and honey. The whipped honey is my favorite. I sampled the ghost pepper whipped honey and it was absolutely wonderful!!! I am so excited to try it with a recipe.

Yelp
Oh how I love the spices of life. Spices make everything better when preparing your favorite meals. Growing up in South Texas I had the opportunity to incorporate all sorts of Spanish, Latin, and Mexican spices into my cooking. Interestingly, nobody ever sat down and explained spices to me, so everything I learned was by taste, smell, and the reactions of my friends. After moving to Hawaii and incorporating Asian and later Indian Spices into my repertoire, I moved east and was so lucky to be able to explore a whole new world of tastes and opportunities. I so love southern cuisine. I think it has some of the finest and most distinct flavors of most places I have been. So, when I found out we had this spice shop right here in South Charlotte I was very excited. So, my wife and I made a special trip here. Reviews were good and it looks great on paper. The shop is very nicely setup. It's divided into sections so you can checkout Caribbean spices before you smell and taste Southeast Asian and later grilling blends. I guess I was expecting more individual spices like Tumeric, an Indian essential, when I decided to head here. I wanted to see more recipe examples and related spices side by side. This place is more of a spice blend concept where you get something that works with pork or fajitas or similar. In other words, this is great if you want to use something that somebody else has blended, but less exciting for folks who want to contemplate blends based on personal preferences. It reminds me of the direct marketing spice group YIAH (Your Inspiration At Home). Lots of great blends there too and they deliver to your door as well. We bought three spices and blends, including a Hawaiian Red Lava Salt for making Kalua Pig. Really happy to see that here. We love our Hawaiian BBQ. Beyond some of the rarer essentials, I'd recommend this place for folks who want to get a blend. It has a reward program that offers $10 towards product after $100 spent and it offers a buck discount if you bring back your used spice bottle for a refill. Nice idea that is just a step up from the grocery isle. Not a slam dunk, but I'll be back.

Yelp
So, I went to Yelp to find out where I could purchase bulk herbs, and this shop comes up. Now that my house is riddled with cold, cough and aches cooties... I decided that I need to make a 'MEAN TEA' to bust immune system in my home. So I trek it to the store and my first impression was 'HMMM it smells good in here'. The smell of the spices is so yummy! The shop is small BUT they are very organized. I went to get elderberries and to my dismay... they did not have any. HOWEVER.... They helped me pick organic herbs from what I needed. They are very knowledgeable in the herbs that they have and they have a quick reference humongous book on other stuff. I'm still SAD that they didn't have the elderberries HOWEVER... they called another shop for me to make sure that they had it, and wrote the address for me. I got what I needed and they have a fan out of me. I didn't give them the last star because... they didn't have that herb. I did wind up purchasing 'other stuff'that was uber fresh! They have made a fan out of me.

Yelp
I love this place. Make sure you sign up for the rewards program which gets you a $10 coupon when you spend $100. I haven't cooked anything without spices in about 2 years after discovering this place. Here are a few tips for first time buyers. TRUFFLE SALT - Bold, stanky, worth the money. This is by far the best of the category. I think you can sprinkle it on an old boot and make it taste good enough to eat. Capital Hill Seasoning - I love putting this on eggs, or mixing 3:1:1 with olive oil and rice wine vinegar and marinating chicken for 2 hours in the 'fridge then grilling. Blackened Garlic - Truly exotic. balsamic-like flavor. Spread it on bread. Pike's Peak Butcher Rub - put it on any meat you grill or braise.

Yelp
I have to admit I went a little nuts the first time I tried this store out. I was looking for some unique spices for a new 5 alarm chili recipe and boy this place delivered. It is a cute little shop with sections around the store for various types of spices like Baking or BBQ etc. The folks working there are super helpful and will make sure you find what you are looking for. I went back a few days later for some nutmeg. Replacing my weird generic store bought brand with the real thing felt AWESOME. They have a refill policy too where you get a discount if you bring in your previously purchased bottle of spice, they will give you a discounted baggied refill. Very nice!

Yelp
Before I even go into how AWESOME this place is, let me be the first to dispel the myth that if you buy you're spices here, you'll be paying more....SOOOO NOT TRUE! I did a price comparison, for the same spices at the grocery store vs Savory Spice, I bought 7 spices total (1 ounce each, which is almost 6 TBSP of each spice (salt will be less than that b/c it's heavier, and dried spices, like parsley will be way more than that since they're so lite.) and only spent $15, at the grocery it was going to be over $40....HOLY COW! Hands down I know where i'm coming next time i need more spices! The advantages to using savory spice over the grocery?! 1. Spices are fresh, and freshly mixed and ground. 2. You pick how much you want (as little as 1/2 ounce and up). Some spices I will only use once when experimenting with a dish, so why buy a bottle when all i need is a teaspoon? (Contrary to popular belief, spices CAN NOT sit on your shelf for years on end and maintain their level of potency. It's better to buy smaller amounts, it will make your recipes taste better when you have fresh spices.) 3. VARIETY!-I am making Chicken Tikka Masala, one of the components is Cinnamon, why settle for the kind you can buy at the grocery, when you can come here and pick from 5 different kinds?! How cool is that? 4. Every container has the name and description of the spice. It even gives you an idea of how to use it. 5. You can smell and taste every spice in there. Grant it, I'm still learning the art of using more spices and less salt, so i don't quit know exactly what i'm doing just yet, however, knowing that that's an option in the future is super awesome. 6. Staff are exceptionally friendly, and knowledgeable. 7. They send your spices home with you in cute little bags (or a bottle if you desire), but they don't just sharpie the name on the bag, they have nice labels made up with the spice info on it, making it easy to remember what you have. If you are even a passive cooker, but like to use spices, GO HERE! Excellent quality, and even better prices! You can not beat that!

Yelp
Yes. Just yes.... Everything about this place is great. I use their spices at home all the time. They have a very good selection and the prices are great. The workers are knowledgeable and very helpful. I get all of my staple spices from Savory and they are far more flavorful than the big national brands stocked in grocery store shelves.

Yelp
Do you want to know what heaven smells like? For real. Just peace, love, joy and all that is good in the world? Walk in the door of the Savory Spice Shop, y'all... lol Okay, once you sprinkle a spice from one of the tasters into your hand, you just throw it on the ground after tasting... And the mixture of all that yumminess is enough to get you so excited about all the super things that await you... I am officially addicted to the Ghost Pepper Salt that I found... It's absolutely fantastic... The perfect thing to add some heat to an otherwise okay dish... I actually put it on my popcorn, which works out great if I don't want to share... They offer cooking classes, they are willing to teach you anything you want to know about the products, they offer suggestions on how to use them (that have turned out delicious in my experiences: BBQ rub on roasted cauliflower and broccoli? Yep, it was awesome.) and they have a website full of recipes... You're gonna spend a pretty penny, but one taste from here and that stuff from the grocery store just won't cut it anymore... Well, you'll still use that grocery store stuff probably, but you'll definitely be able to see the difference once you've had these.

Yelp
Cute shop with some serious spices for gourmands and weekend grillmasters. We all know that dried spices are herbs are a necessity to any tasty home meal. However, any trip down the local grocery store aisle yields the same handful of companies with the same old selection of spices. This can pass muster most of the time, but don't you ever wonder if there is something more that could punch up your home recipes or take them to another level? This is where Savory steps in. Seriously folks, they have enough different kinds of salt to make you throw that little girl in the rain jacket out to the curb. Like a little truffle in your sea salt? Done. Prefer some of the pink Himalayan salt? Got that, too. And then there are the pepper corns- a selection that makes you embarrassed not to have a couple different grinders at home to crack those bad boys down to their full flavor potential. But in all seriousness, there is an impressive selection here, especially if you do any more exotic cooking with things such as curries, indian spice blends, and far-eastern staples. Extracts for baking are plentiful here too: 3 different vanilla beans, for example. For those without an exact recipe, though, there is also a section devoted to pre-made spice blends. Just name your protein or the general flavor profile you are looking for. This will be a must-try for summer grill season. The staff are all knowledgeable about the different options and are happy to help. I was also impressed with the in-store demos and tasting options we saw. There was a chili set-up complete with cornbread. Wow. Their community board also spoke of upcoming cooking demos, one just for curries. We saw lots of pre-made sets that were boxed and ready for gifting. This would be an easy go-to for housewarming gifts. Prices for those sets were moderate- about $20 - $50 for most. Prices for individuals spices seemed moderate, but the bonus is that you can by as little (or as much) as you need. This is really a nice addition to the Charlotte market for those who want to kick up the spice on the home front. I''m hopeful they stick around.

Yelp
I found Raspberry Extract that I have been searching for... And key lime extract, warm walnut extract, Jerk seasoning, guajilo pepper seasoning... So I would say my trip here was quite successful! I saw some other seasonings I'd seen in recipes and as soon as I find the recipes again I will be back!

Yelp
This place is wonderful. Savory Spice Shop has a website, but our local store's prices are about 20% lower than the site shows, which is awesome. Spices in general are surprisingly affordable. I assumed that buying basic spices would be silly expensive and overpriced, but that is not the case-- bottles for things like basil, oregano, garlic, crushed pepper, are cheaper or at most comprable to spices sold at the grocery store. And fresher. Like basil, $2-4 for a jar, when you would spend $5 or $6 for that mccormick's stuff at the grocery store. Even better, buying spices in a baggie without the jar is $1 ish less. That's awesome! I just stopped buying spices at the grocery store because I would eye the prices and think "I can get tastier for less at the spice shop". Of course, not everything is competitively priced, the spices mixes and the luxury whole spices are definitely more expensive. But that's pretty reasonable, I like that I can come in for the basics and then get tantalized by the spice mixes. As others have mentioned, buying small amts of spice in baggies is very convenient here, and also buying specialty things like Sichuan peppercorns is also great. It might be a franchise but it feels like a local's shop. Very nice place.

Yelp
Neat little spot in Atherton Mill that sells a myriad of spices and spice blends . These products can be sampled in-store and are available for purchase in a 3-4 different sizes. Savory Spice Shop also has ready made seasoning blends of which I purchased one for a rustic red sauce ( just add crushed tomatoes) and one for pot roast ( just add roast, broth, veggies, etc ). I've used the red sauce blend and it was amazing, definitely something I would buy again. Within the store there is also local honey, loose leaf tea, and barbecue/finishing sauces for sale. The sales team are very friendly and helpful.

Yelp
I couldn't be more pleased or impressed with this new addition to the SouthEnd area. Nestled in the Atherton Mills complex near "Big Ben," this little shop is destined to become a local treasure. The owners, Amy and Scott, were as patient and helpful as could be. The spices are sold by the container or by the ounce, and Scott happily doled out minuscule amounts of everything I wanted. I asked for some recommendations and was very pleased with their ideas. I'm excited to try some new things at home, and looking forward to their cooking classes. The atmosphere is really pleasant and organic. Their flavor boxes are beautifully presented, relevant, and inexpensive. I found everything I was looking for, and some things I wasn't! Additionally, they are open seven days a week, so you can always find what you need for a gift or you favorite Sunday dinner. I can't wait until I come across a recipe that contains some obscure flavors so I can go back and visit them again! Last but not least, there are some other "brand name" spice stores out there, and this one beat their prices by miles. For real cooks, Savory Spice Shop is highly recommended.

Yelp
I love this cute, little spice shop! I will admit that I am not the kind of person to frequent a spice shop but after now visiting Savory a couple times, I feel like I should be going more often. The store is tucked away in the shopping center on South Boulevard with the Atherton Mill Market and Icehouse. Parking is sometimes a pain but doable. It can be kind of overwhelming to visit Savory Spice Shop for the first time if you don't know what you're looking for. They have SO many spices, seasonings, and rubs to choose from. The staff is very friendly and can help you choose the spices that you'll need. Spices and seasonings are set out in the store with taste testers or smellers so you can "sample" the product. Once you choose a spice, a member of the staff will portion out the spice in the amount that you'll need for you to take home. You can choose seasonings from Blackened Cajun seasoning to Vanilla extracts. They have everything! Pro tip: The Jerk and Hot Jerk seasoning is ahhhmazing!

Gumbo File' they have it, Bay leaves. yep, mediterranean spice? that too. Salt of all the seas. Employees are so helpful. Nice recipe suggestons on cards too. 5 kinds of Cinnamon! Vanilla and almond extracts. You have to go.

Yelp
I don't love to review a business on their opening day, but the Savory Spice Shop had their stuff together, and as busy as they were it was still a very enjoyable experience. First, the store is divided up into brightly labeled sections to guide you (if you're not greeted and helped right when you walk through the door, which they seem to be aiming for) baking sugars/spices/extracts, BBQ, chicken, seafood, stock & soup bases, salts... I was very impressed. Not only do they have your expected spices and spice blends, but also kaffir lime leaves, hibiscus flowers, and whole star anise, with a pretty full selection of tandoori, masalas, and curries. (Also a lot of whole/seed options, not just the ground) There were even some smoke flavors, preserved lemons, and msg available for purchase. Definitely more than I was expecting! Once you've found what you want, there are multiple sized portions you can purchase your spices/etc in. Some are already packaged for you, but if you don't want the size container they have you just bring the big "mother" jar of the spice over to the weighing counter and they'll measure our 1/2 ounce and ounce bags, an assortment of jar sizes... it's pretty awesome (and a lot easier to try newer spices without having to commit to a whole jar). Most of the selection has a "taster" beside it so you can sniff and sample the spice or blend before buying. Very helpful staff, lots of gift sets perfect for the holidays, and if you go in during their first week open you are eligible for 5% off for life. (Plus if you bring in friends you can earn up to 10% off for life) They only seemed to be missing a few products (two star anise jars were empty, and I overheard vanilla bean), definitely a very solid opening and a great new place at Atherton!

Yelp
What a little gem! Although I used to live in Charlotte, I moved away, and this is one of the places that wasn't here prior to my leaving. I needed to kill some time yesterday, as I'm here visiting, and decided to stop by the shop. I'm so glad I did. Such wonderful customer service by the two awesome ladies there, and they were both very knowledgeable. I love finding different ways to make my food more "interesting", and this shop provided great options to do just that. Hanging in the shop made me pretty hungry! I think the prices are great, and I loved the variety. I was even able to to pick up a jug of a mixer for my bourbon cocktails. I would definitely recommend this place! :)

Yelp
Love, love, love their shop! This really is a 4.5 review. I am so happy to have a fine store like this - rocks way better than the Asian markets and international ones - these spices are super fresh! Everything was super clean and they had offerings of yummies to try! The staff was very attentive to our needs and friendly. We were able to get everything we were looking for and I plan on returning to get some more Indian spices to make some yummy meals for my lunches next week. Oh and to get some more candied ginger - to die for I tell you!!! They also honored the 5% for life discount and we were happy to use it. Can't wait to go back -- but first I need to gather a menu plan with need ingredients! I heart this shop!

Yelp
Excellent customer service and great spice collection. I love Indian food, so I am finally venturing out to cook it. Although the local grocery stores now carry more variety of ethnic spices, they still fall short. Furthermore, for those who feel overwhelmed by the ethnic grocery stores, this is the best place in town. It is centrally located and easy to find. There is even a farmer's market next door for you foodies as well. Lastly, I purchased the Pike's Peak Butcher's Rub. Let's just say this summer's bbq will be that more enjoyable and my life is forever changed. =)

Yelp
Read the details about their buy $100 get $100 deal. You receive $100 in gift cards. When I did it last year there were 10/ $10 cards. They only allow you to use one gift card per day. If the item you wish to purchase is under $10 they will not give you the change back. All the details are there so please just read them before deciding if it works for you.

Yelp
I traded in my additive heavy spices for the tranquility (word you should use to describe a spice shop- ugh yeah- it smells great!), service and selection of Savory Spice Shop. Recently, they ran a promotion that with every empty or used spice container you brought you trade in $1 was earned towards your purchase with them. Love the custom gift sets- just purchased one as a wedding gift. Splurge on the Truffle Salt or just try some of the best paprika, cinnamon and chili powder I have ever encountered. Bonus because other than some specialty spices most are almost the same price as your local grocery chain. Bring in your glass bottle when empty and they will credit another $1 to your purchase from them. Fantastic section, taste anything you like. Yes it really is worth it to shop here. Great organic section as well -save dollars and support a great business? Sign me up.

Yelp
What an amazing place! I loved the shop assistant that really wanted to make sure that we knew what we were walking into. She was so friendly and helpful! They had a great selection, flavors I didn't even know existed! - we had been looking for pomegranate molasses all week and finally found it here! The prices were very reasonable AND they had a groupon out! We ended up walking out with Tikka Masala, Tzatziki flavoring, and some Moroccan seasoning. Very excited to try these out at home!

Yelp
This place is AMAZING. Well worth the stop in. If you've never bought spices from a spice shop, your world will change. The staff is friendly and defiantly focused on helping you find what you need, and has plenty of suggestions if you're not fully sure. My advice? Get a little of everything, their blends are on point. Are you going to spend a little more than buying it at your local grocer? Maybe... but the quality and freshness more than make up for it.
