Ugly Delicious Season 1, Episode 1: ‘Pizza’ Recap | Eater

"A Tokyo pizzeria led by chef Ryu Yoshimura that experiments with unconventional toppings like raw fish; a standout example is a tuna-and-mayonnaise pizza that surprised David Chang and Aziz Ansari by how much they enjoyed it." - Greg Morabito

This was honestly the best pizza I’ve had in Tokyo and one of the best pizzas I’ve ever eaten in the world. Everything was super fresh, and you could really see the quality in every bite. It’s a very small place, I’d say it only fits around eight people. So I definitely recommend making a reservation. We didn’t book, so we ended up waiting about 30 minutes, but that was totally on us. Once we got in, the food was absolutely amazing and the staff were so kind. Truly a must-visit spot. And if you don’t feel like eating sushi every day, this is the perfect place to smash a delicious pizza! 🍕✨

The tuna pizza was surprisingly amazing! The combination of fresh tuna with the crispy crust and melted cheese was perfectly balanced — rich, savory, and slightly smoky. Every bite had that perfect mix of freshness and umami. The toppings were generous, and the flavors came together beautifully without being too heavy. Definitely one of those unique dishes you wouldn’t expect to love this much — 5/5 and would absolutely order again!

I was really unsure about the true pizza quality before I go, because comments about pizza are kind of exaggerated and dramatic. But after I tasted the pizza, I stood to the same side as these comments. They are true. The pizza was exceptional good and so tasty that you bite once and the next moment the pizza is already finish. We ate Margherita pizza and Tuna pizza. Tuna pizza is a more original design, which is a very cool combination of western and Japanese food. I will recommend this pizza, to people who wants a great experience of food in Tokyo.

I went to this location since the other Savoy nearby had a long queue. I am glad i did. I got there 5 minutes before open and there was 3 people queued up. I was seated right away. The inside of this store is more intimate and I liked the ambience better. The pizza quality is the same as the other location from what I remember. I usually get a margarita pizza to compare it to other places. This was just as good. I enjoy the sauce savoy makes and topped with olive oil. Summary - this is a top tier Neapolitan pizza in Tokyo

Google
Delicious Pizzas and Excellent Service We ordered three pizzas — the Marinara, Bluefin Tuna, and Hida Beef Bismarck. They were all absolutely delicious, but our favorite was definitely the Hida Beef — the flavors were perfectly balanced, and the dough was cooked to perfection. The service was excellent; the staff were very polite, friendly, and helpful throughout our meal. Although the restaurant is small, it has a cozy atmosphere with plenty of space to dine comfortably. Overall, a wonderful experience — great food, great service, and a place we’d definitely come back to!

Google
Fantastic spot for Neapolitan-style pizza. The dough was nicely seasoned, with a crispy, beautifully charred crust that hit all the right notes. Toppings were high quality especially the bluefin tuna pizza, which was super fresh and surprisingly delicious. The space is cozy and thoughtfully designed, with counter seats facing the open kitchen so you can watch all the action as the pizzas are made. Service was smooth and there wasn’t much of a wait between orders. I didn’t have a reservation but showed up about an hour before opening and managed to get a seat. Most of the crowd seemed to be tourists, but the quality definitely lived up to the Netflix Ugly Delicious hype.

After so many glowing reviews and recommendations, we came to Savoy very excited. We didn’t have a reservation, the wait wasn’t long at all but we were seated downstairs in what appears to be another restaurant. We were pretty much ignored by the Savoy staff and only served by the staff on the restaurant downstairs. That aside, it was quite an expensive meal for 2 entree and 2 pizzas. The tuna pizza being the iconic dish is unique but nothing mind blowing. The Margherita Pizza was pretty bland, you can’t really taste the sauce or basil it was just dough and cheese in flavour. I think the true disappointment for us was both pizza was drowned in oil to the point where it was soggy. It became sickening. I wish we had the experience and adoration everyone else had.

Google
Topnotch pizzas tucked away from the busy streets of Tokyo. No line at lunch so my hungry self was ready for three pizzas. Tried the sukiyaki and tuna pizzas and both were totally new experiences for me and surprisingly good. The crust was perfect and the flavors were unique but worked really well. We talked with the owner I guess? and he said that summer is the best time to go to avoid long lines. People hates summer heat :))

Yelp
This place is so good we are writing this review before our third pizza has arrived. Visited in 2019 and specifically sought it out our first day back. Like other reviews noted, the crust is soft and moist and chewy. Ingredients are super fresh. I'm a deep dish guy which is not this place, but this pizza is as good as it gets.

Yelp
Came here for Sunday lunch. Arrived 30 minutes after opening and waited about 30 minutes. Got the Margherita and Blue fin tuna pizza. The tuna is the better pizza. Didn't have to wait long for the food but service was a bit spotty because we were at the back of the restaurant. Would come back again and try a different pizza.

Yelp

Yelp
On the last night of my recent trip to Tokyo, Savoy was the one spot in Tokyo that I specifically wanted to try. I recalled seeing it on Ugly Delicious, probably like everybody else that eats there now. The Tuna Pizza was what drew me in. We started with the Caprese Salad - always a winner, and the broccoli - could be better. First pizza up was the Margherita - delicious but very wet compared to Napoli version. I recently learned that Tokyo-style pizza is drenched in Olive Oil, it's good but I think unnecessary. Next up was the Tuna - amazing and I will come back every trip just to have this! Last was the mushroom and egg - it needed something with crunch or texture and strong flavor to contrast with the soft ingredients (not common in Japanese cooking), maybe like crispy prosciutto. Overall, it is a great place to go for dinner. Make a reservation and get the tuna pizza!

Yelp
Great place if you want Neapolitan style pizza in Tokyo. Very light and tasty. The owner let us in without a reservation. You can tell he's passionate about what he's serving. Nice hole in the wall spot

Yelp
Wow. What can you possibly complain about? Delicious pizza. Cold beer. Friendly people. Cool environment. Such an awesome cool down after a long hot day.

Yelp
Great pizza at Savoy with a lovely owner/manager who will delight you with the most genuine smile of joy as he requests to take a photo of you for dining at his parlor. The bread is chewier than any pizza I've ever had - definitely a unique process they've put together - and the marinara show was a one-of-a-kind experience. Like French onion soup reimagined into a delicious pizza.

Yelp
Savoy is one of my favorite pizza places in Tokyo. They have another location that's not too far from this location and I'm not sure which one is the original. We've been to the other one twice and loved it so we wanted to try this location to see if it's any different. We went to Savoy Tomato & Cheese during lunch hours on a weekday. They have the same menu as Savoy Azabujuban - a 1000 yen lunch set that comes with a peach iced tea, a salad, and a choice of either the marinara or the margherita pizza. It's amazing how this is only 1000 yen considering the quality and the location (Azabujuban is one of the most expensive areas to live in). The pizzas are delicious and we loved how they kept refilling the peach iced tea, which was super refreshing. We loved both pizzas, but I have a slight preference for the margherita here. We have another favorite pizza place in Tokyo called Seirinkan, which also only serves margherita and marinara pizzas and there I have a slight preference for the marinara even though the margherita is probably the more popular of the two at both Seirinkan and Savoy. Like Savoy Azabujuban, Savoy Tomato & Cheese only has a counter with about 10 seats, but unlike the Azabujuban location I never see a long line here, which is great. This location also has a different vibe. While Savoy Azabujuban has a more rustic feel to it, this place has a more modern and contemporary feel and is well lit. The service at both locations are great and I would highly recommend both locations.

Yelp
Approved by my husband who's father comes from Naples, Italy. Small restaurant but quality stands out. We eat a lot of pizzas and this one is one of the best ones in the area, much much better than Strada down the street.

Yelp
Fantastic weekday lunch sets at ¥1000. Delicious crust and one of the best I have had. Moist chewy a little burnt and crispy with fresh and delicious ingredients. Highly recommended. Try the classic margarita or the beef is also very delicious but not on the lunch set menu.

Yelp
My kids eat a lot of Pizza and we've pretty much tried them all and I have to say this place is the best. In a city of fantastic Italian style Pizza, Savoy stands out for sure. It's small and I think just has counter seating but if you go early it's not crowded and worst case you can get take out and go sit in the nearby Robot Park. The staff is friendly in that sort of polite, inflexible Japanese way ("you are welcome to sit here but please know that this seat is reserved from 1h15 from now so you must leave by then"). Getting to watch the pizzas made in front of you is fun for the kids. Only two kinds of Pizza, but they have good sides and salads as well. Drinks can be expensive, I guess that's where they make their money.

Yelp
Owner was really rude to us, probably because we're foreign. Wouldn't let us sit at the counter, made us do take out even though by the time our order was ready the place was empty. We wanted to try the ahi pizza but you can't order that one take out. We ended up with a beef pizza and onion pizza. He Gave us less beef than other orders, and that pizza was very whatever anyway. +1 star because the onion pizza was tasty. Wouldn't come back.
