"Collective grief settled over locals when nicest-chef-in-Asheville Dan Silo announced in April he was closing his Adirondack-infused restaurant Sawhorse, taking his world-famous, hubcap-sized buckwheat pancake, grandma’s brown earthenware jug, peameal bacon sandwich, and NY Rangers swag back north." - Eater Staff

Nice little breakfast find, they offer traditional breakfast like biscuits and gravy, pancakes 🥞 and other egg dishes. They are apparently really busy and wait staff gives off that “we don’t need your business vibes” and you need to overly thank them for doing their roles. No substitutions on certain days as the kitchen is pretty busy. Parking can be found behind the restaurant and we got a table right away, only a couple open when we arrived. Pancakes were really good, coffee decent, the sausage was pretty tough, eggs nice and biscuit quality a little smothered by the gravy. Price was right and it was a nice breakfast spot, will try their corn beef (I think that’s what it was) next time.

Went for an early Friday night dinner and snagged seats at the bar. Our server was very welcoming and helpful with great menu recommendations. Not pictured was a delicious cup of red split pea soup for a starter and we shared our entrees. Beef was cooked perfectly, meat pie was hearty and flavorful and all of the accompanying vegetables really made the courses shine. Wasn’t sure I had room for dessert but I’m so glad I ordered the Maple Eclair. That might’ve been my favorite bite of the night! They’re busy/popular on weekends so I’d recommend hitting up Sawhorse for a weeknight dinner. So glad we finally checked this place out! We will most definitely be back.

How many times we've been: 12+ What we ordered: We've had everything on the breakfast/lunch menu that doesn't leave, as the chefs rotate 2 or 3 things out every week we think. There's 1 - 3 new things every time we visit and we usually try one of them. It's been said in other reviews, but their buttermilk pancakes are legitimately life changing haha they're so good and as you see in photos we usually have to get at least one with whatever else we get. Honorable mention: Their oatmeal is also amazing and we also find an excuse to get at least the small bowl every time. What we spent: ~$22 before tip, and we usually get 1 main dish, 1 pancake, 1 side, and coffee. What we liked: EVERYTHING. Every dish we've had has been great to amazing in our opinion. The pancakes, oatmeal, poutine, biscuits & gravy, breakfast sandwich, and lumbercamp breakfast are all standout breakfast dishes and possibly our favorites in the whole city. The lunch menu seems to change the most but the crispy brussel sprouts, sawhorse burger, and chicken club we've had twice and each time blew us away. What we didn't like: Truly can't find a bad thing to say aside from it being a bit out of the way. Our rating system: 5 stars = Great to amazing food and experience. Shout from the roofs to tell people about. Return often and eagerly or find excuses to book a table for a more expensive place. 4 stars = Good to great food and experience. Write home about. Eager to return. 3 stars = Ok to good food and experience. Will offer suggestion if asked but likely would rather go elsewhere. 2 stars = Underwhelming to ok food and experience. Not worth a return and might tell people to skip. 1 star = Bad to underwhelming food and experience. Regret going and tell people to avoid.

Our dinner at Sawhorse was pretty good and the service was fantastic. For starters, we shared the Poutine which was the best I've ever eaten. Note, it's not on the menu, however, you can get a half order which is advisable if you're wanting it as an appetizer. Next, I had the Meat Pie, it was pretty good. My wife had the Fisherman's Stew, the flavor was great but she did end up chomping into a few broken pieces of shell that were hiding in the broth. We finished with sharing the Maple Eclair, it was delicious!

Service was fantastic both times we visited. Food was fresh, hot, and delicious. The poutine was completely from scratch and absolutely amazing! I especially loved it with the duck confit. The atmosphere is very laid back and cozy. A great place for breakfast or lunch with a friend or significant other. Bonus: it's dog friendly!

Hipster meets old time diner. The best of the two worlds with wonderful service and old school favorites with a twist. Casey (KC) was on point with the service: timely, friendly and engaging. Had the skirt steak sandwich, not sure what the sauce was, but reminded me of something mom used to brew up in the kitchen. Real deal french fries with skin on… Pancake was as big as the plate. Highly recommend locally sourced, and an excellent value.

Still awesome. This time I got an iced Canadian coffee spiked with booze and maple syrup. So good. Also got mushrooms and caramelized onions on toast (incredible) and cod cakes. The cakes were fine but the mushroom dish did not want to share the spotlight. The wait staff are all wonderful. --- Hell yeah. We sat at the bar and Kacie(?) greeted us like old friends. We ordered right down the ala carte menu because we wanted to try everything, and everything was great. We also got the brussels sprouts. Y'all, I don't care what you're eating, just make sure to get the brussels sprouts. Friendly, community vibe and not your standard southern fare if you need a break from that.

Delicious!!! Buckwheat pancakes were gluten free and AH-mazing!!! So good that we didn’t get a picture before they were gobbled up. Thank you, Sawhorse!!
