This place has very good customer service. I went in and needed assistance coming up with parts for a do-it-yourself project to repair my windshield wiper sprayer and they had no problem helping me figure that out even came out to my car to confirm what I had purchased was or was not the right piece then came back in and found the right pieces! While I was there I got some good photos of their hours of operation and their storefront and sign on the road. Update: I'm having to reduce the Stars to two because of the customer service I just experienced. Today I was asking if they had free boxes for moving and was directed to the rental department. They pointed me to the paid for boxes and when I said I was looking for the ones that didn't cost anything they proceeded to tell me those are all cut up into tiny pieces and then proceeded to disregard me and not speak or look at me any further as if the entire issue was closed and I needed to leave. So I left very dissatisfied. I do hope to hear something back and I'm not expecting free boxes, or anything at this point, because I'll be done with my move by the time they respond. However if I do hear something this rating will probably be restored to at least a four. The customer service in general is a lot better but I feel very dissatisfied with the behavior of the employees today September 14th 2022 at 9:03 a.m. it was the guy behind the counter in the rentals Department that acted this way but none of the others in the vicinity said anything either. edit: Quick response from owner, rating restored!

I really, really want to support you guys, I went in for in wall timer switches and you guys only had ones that go to 60 minutes. Maybe carry more staples and stop filling the store with every kind of Traeger Edit - After your response I went in to order one with my 20% off coupon, was told I couldn’t apply it and couldn’t use it with my rewards cash either. I guess I’ll go to Home Depot, they give. Yes 10% off anyways

The owners have put a lot of thought into this store. The floor staff all are experienced and knowledgeable or young and cheerfully helpful. You may not see as much variety of an item on there shelves as in other stores but you wont see cheep trash rip-offs either. They may not carry everything I need all the time for my protects, but I can order what I need. This will always be my go-to for home improvements.

Most Ace’s I have used in the last couple of years, around the country, have been very well equipped and staffed by knowledgeable people who seem to care that you get treated well. The Dalles, Oregon store is no exception. From rentals to obscure bolts and a good array of hand tools, Ace does not disappoint. Are things perfect? No, but I am happy they are still there so I don’t have to buy everything off the internet. They seem to be locally owned so supporting local business’ is a big deal!

This is a fabulous Ace Hardware! I'm impressed with the diversity and quality iof the inventory. Plus the fabulous customer service From everyone I encountered. While most Ace Hardware stores are similar, they are independently owned and each has their local flavor. While stopping here to have a window screen replaced (Tom is the best and replaces in real time or by the next day) I found so many other items I didn't know I needed! Haha. In the garden section I found whimsical yard art and handmade aprons, one for me with bright cherry sunflowers; and a classy black and white version for a friend. Never to early to start Christmas shopping! The store has supplies for electrical, plumbing and carpentry work. Also small kitchen appliances, gadgets and cookware. Large selection of outdoor grills and BBQs. Garden supplies, soil, perennials and annuals. Shoveld, brooms, shears and other garden tools. They even have a Hallmark section with gifts and go cards. Plus locally made cards with the most gorgeous photographs of birds, wildlife, flowers and scenery from the Gorge. Yep, had to buy a few! While I have shopped at many Ace Hardware stores and have a loyalty number, for some reason it wasn't showing up. Even though the store was busy, the cashier helped me get it resolved. Came in to get a screen repaired, left with gifts & greeting cards, a shovel, broom, apron, flashlight and yes, the newly repairEd window screen!

Thought it was the go to place as well as wanting to buy local and support local business only to know with certainty Sawyers is not the best place. I have purchased two saws, supplies, fittings from this location over the years. Usually spending at least $100 or more. I come back today to drop one off to get serviced and overhauled only to be told it would be a month before I could get my saw serviced. It wasn't it'll be a month as you leave it , rather come back in a month and see where we are at. I asked as to why the delay. I was given some excuse as to why they didn't have the help etc. I asked if the owner of this facility was aware of this situation as well as Stihl as they are an authorized service center. There was no real response to that. I asked if I came back a month from now what guarantee I wouldn't be told the same month delay. I was told I couldn't be guaranteed that. So this being a round robin conversation I advised that this is really a lack of customer service on Sawyers. Not only is sawyers ACE losing my planned $1000.00 dollar purchase of other equipment spend and spend on repair. I will never set foot in this Sawyers store again for anything. I will also be following up with Stihl in regards to their dealership contracts and what's expected of their dealers. Guess I won't buy Stihl anymore. It is exactly this lack of customer service that will hinder local business. Oh yeah I was told I could go to Toppenish or Gresham to have my saw serviced. I really don't think the gentleman running this service side really is looking out for the interest of the success of the owner and this business. You might consider putting some good people in place to fix your saws faster. This is really unfortunate.

This store always has what I need. The ace brand gardening equip is on price w/ economical stuff at the other store but last much much longer. I'm not a "local" but everyone has always been very friendly and helpful. I really appreciate being able to rent equipment that I'm only going to use once in a blue moon. I've never had any problem ordering parts for my old lawn equipment. I'm glad to have a choice about where to go and even better on the east side of town. Oddly? they have a neat section of handmade items, beautiful aprons and gifts and cards and things. And the nursery section is on point with regionally appropriate plant choices, good veggie starts, chicks in the spring and bee classes etc.

I use ace probably twice a week for work. I have been extremely upset about the how this company has handled the mask mandate. I called and asked for a manager and the "manager" said they don't enforce the mask mandate, it is up for the customers to enforce. At the end of the day I am extremely disappointed at how they are enforcing this.

Lucky! That's how I feel to have such a great hardware store right in my neighborhood in this little town. I never take them for granted. They have what you need from a nit picky little stainless screw to plumbing parts for a vintage faucet, garden supplies, electrical, paint etc...They have in stock a huge inventory of Stihl equipment. Through the years they have had some very knowledgeable folks working there. Plus, they have a fairly extensive rental department. Recently, I visited their mechanic shop. Service was friendly, fast, efficient and effective. Andy, their head small engine / equipment mechanic really knows his stuff. Shop here any time you can avoid the big box store with the square orange logo. Thanks Sawyers. A+

Really tried to give this place my support instead of the big box store. Even though everything costs a little more, i'd rather support a small, local business. But this place gives off a major "you're not from 'round here" vibe. The dept specialists are knowledgable and pleasant enough, however the female cashier I've had each time I've been in all but ignores me when i make a purchase. I watch her be super bubbly with the customer in front of me, then i get up there. I am polite. I say please and thank you, but she just refuses to say anything to me other than my total. She just looks at me like wasting her time. Maybe it's because I'm wearing a mask and this business puts forth no effort to look out for the well being of the people who give them money. Maybe being polite and respectful is a trigger for her. Who knows. But as i leave, i hear her be super bubbly and friendly with the person behind me who is unmasked. Done with this place. Back to the big box store that make at least some effort at customer service.

Every time I go to Sawyer's ACE the staff goes above and beyond to answer questions and make sure I have the information I need for my latest DIY project. Last week when I needed to stain my deck, the owner himself helped me find the right product and even carried it out to my car for me! Very attentive and considerate service.

I have a local business in The Dalles, I called a week and a half to reserve a piece of rental equipment. I also called 24 hours before pick up that my reservation was in fact there. On the morning of the day I was to pick it up I watched it being loaded onto someone truck that was not mine. I asked what was going on, and was told to wait it would be explained to me in a moment. First I was told it was double booked, then I was told oh sorry we put you on the wrong day. Naturally I was angry. I said I wanted to speak to the manager. Guy at the rental desk said he was the manager and didn't what to tell me mistakes were made. MISTAKES WERE MADE!!!! what the hell kind of answer is that. I was also told I would get a call from the owner. You guessed it no call. My company will no longer do any business here. I know I am just a small company and only spend a few thousand dollars there a month. But I will take my money to a company that appreciates its valued customers.
