The 12 Best Restaurants In Nantucket - Nantucket - The Infatuation

"Get your to-go clambake, lobster rolls, fried seafood, and bags of steamers from this small fish market. Outdoor seating is extremely limited, but the dishes are fresh and come out fast, so if you can't get a table, take a few freshly steamed lobsters and fried clams back to your share house and go to town. Coleslaw, fries, and corn on the cob complete your meal, and while you’re there, grab a filet of cod or swordfish for the grill later." - tanya edwards

One of the best places I ate at on the island. This place is a seafood market and serves a lot of the restaurants. They also have a kitchen and I enjoyed some fantastic clam chowder as well as a fried oyster sandwich. These were really good. The sandwich came with a bag of cape cod chips. The soup came with Westminster oyster cracker. Also got some steamed little neck clams with butter. Prices are perhaps the cheapest on the island. ($6 chowder and $19 fried clam sandwich, steamed clams were $12.95) Staff is friendly. There's about 3 tables outside on their deck with maybe 6-8 seats for those who wish to eat there. Wait time wasn't bad at all - maybe 10 minutes. It was not a far walk from the main drag. Would definitely come back again.

Google
They are my go to wintertime whole belly fried clams. Haven’t tried much of their takeout food but I have seen some ordered looks great! the prices are reasonable for Nantucket. Have ordered fresh fish from them and it was delicious. very grateful that they stay open through the winter.

Google
Absolutely delicious base scallops from Nantucket lightly breaded served with tartar sauce the best I've ever had. Definitely a must to try definitely not fancy outside service available right next to the Bay. Fresh and delicious.

Do not go.
We've lived on the island for 32 years and decided to treat ourselves to oysters and lobsters. While the lobsters were excellent, the oysters were clearly bad—inedible and potentially dangerous. We returned immediately to inform them, not to cause trouble, but because we work in healthcare and understand the serious health risks that can come from spoiled shellfish. Unfortunately, the staff was completely dismissive. One employee simply said, “Well, I don’t eat them,” and when we asked to speak with a manager, we were told no one was available. No one took accountability. My mom even asked, “Would you serve this to your own family?”—and the employee walked away without a word. We’ve never encountered such rude and unprofessional behavior in all our years living here. Save yourself the trouble—and the risk—and do not go.

Google
Great place and an easy walk if you are here on a boat. Everyone was very friendly and all the seafood was fresh. Considering it’s Nantucket, the prices were reasonable, a good value for Nantucket.

Google
Nice fried food spot. The scallops and salmon were great. The fries were pretty good. The crab cakes were covered in breading and were not good to us. But everything else was great. They had some of the biggest lobsters inside that I have ever seen. The fresh fish case had a lot of seafood as well. All of the seating was outside. Inside there is only space to order and pay.

Google
This place is such a gem. It is extremely causal so if you’re looking for something upscale this isn’t for you. But, if you don’t mind sitting outside and using plastic utensils, I highly suggest checking it out. The seafood is as fresh as it gets- we even saw a huge cooler being brought in while we sat outside and ate. Huge portions, very affordable (was shocked to find this on Nantucket), and the employees were lovely. Pictured are fish & chips, which comes with three large pieces of fish, a good amount of crispy fries, side of coleslaw, AND a cup of delicious clam chowder. Can’t wait to go back.

Google
This is some of the best seafood we have had in the northeast. The pictures speak for themselves and we enjoyed eating on the porch overlooking the harbor.

Yelp
What an awesome outing!! The lobsters were fresh and feisty! The ladies offering them up were fun and friendly. They even held up a HUGE lobster for us to photograph. We took home several live lobsters and had a great meal

Yelp
Sayle's is off the beaten path and the place to get your seafood! It's a cute, small store with a small but nicely curated selection of seafood. It's incredibly fresh. We were in and out very quickly on an early summer weekday afternoon. If you're preparing a seafood meal at home, you need to go to Sayle's.

Yelp
I don't normally rate places but this food was horrible . I ordered a lobster roll and it was by far the worst lobster roll I have ever had. Fried clams were just okay I would never go back.
google avatar

Edge K.

Yelp
Not the lobster roll you would expect, in any way other than lobster. Fresh seafood, absolutely. Friendly service definitely. Lobster roll served on a cold round roll with I'm guessing Jamaican spices mixed into the lobster, that was not expected or what I asked for. I'm not saying it didn't taste good, but a New England-Nantucket lobster roll comes on a butter grilled Frankfurter style hotdog roll and definitely isn't spiced like it came from the Caribbean. Not a redo.

Yelp
Had I visited SAYLE'S SEAFOOD on my first day here in Nantucket, I would have been visited EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. OF. MY. STAY. The LOBSTER DINNER came with a whole steamed lobster (your choice of lobster size), some tasty new potatoes, corn on the cob, clarified butter and lemon wedges. The FRIED CALAMARI are so crispy and tasty. The CLAM CHOWDER had a lot of clam pieces. The RAW SHUCKED OYSTERS were local and suuu-weeet. There are a handful of tables with chairs outside for you to enjoy your meal. The workers know their stuff, are nice, super friendly, and are "on it". When I came back in to see if my food was ready, the cashier remembered exactly what I ordered and yelled towards the kitchen in the back to hand me my *whatever dish was ready*.

Yelp
I LOVE FRIED scallops!!! - you see fried clams everywhere - but fried scallops are much more rare. I asked my "born on Nantucket friend" where I should indulge in this delicacy, and this place was her recommendation. There is only a few tables outside and this place is tucked away close to downtown (walkable) but nothing you would ever stumble upon if you didn't know it existed. I kinda made a tactical error and ordered way more than I could eat. A fried scallop dinner (substituted onion rings for fries - pro move!) It comes with a ton of scallops, onion rings, coleslaw, AND a whole cup of chowder - which I gave to the table next to me - they were thrilled! Even then - I could only finish half my meal. I should have ordered the appetizer portion. All in all - for Nantucket - it was a pretty reasonable price. NOTE- these were the Nantucket scallops - much smaller than normal scallops and sweeter. It was a very rich meal.

Yelp
Awesome seafood place. We got the seafood platter. It was fantastic. Comes with clam chowder. The only drawback was that it had bay scallops vs. sea scallops. Would recommend this little gem to anyone coming to the island.

Yelp
Best fresh seafood on the island - got the lobster, shrimp, calamari, scallops, steamers. All were cooked perfectly. The ladies there are so friendly and welcoming.

Yelp
Get their lobster dinner!! This is very much a fish market in that you can buy shellfish and filets but they also sell seafood like lobsters, fried clams, etc. they also have lobster dinners by the 1.25, 1.5, 2.25, and 2.5 pound increments as well as calm chowder, potatoes, and corn, and melted butter. They all come to go but they do have outdoor tables so you can eat outside weather and space permitting. I ordered the 1.25 pound lobster dinner, planning to eat at their tables but then it started to downpour so i took it back to my hotel. They wrapped it very tightly so it was still warm when I opened it about 15 minutes after leaving the restaurant. The lobster comes pre-cracked so getting 90% of it out is really easy, but if you have crackers, I'd bring them to get out the last bit. The lobster is so sweet, buttery, and delicious. the clam chowder was a little bland and fishy, but a nice touch, especially for the price of the meal. The potatoes were perfectly cooked but a little bland (the butter and salt helped). The corn was overcooked but who's eating the corn anyway? The star was the lobster and it was amazing. Sayle's is about a 10 min walk from downtown but it's absolutely worth it for the views (on a clear day you can look on the bay), the kind service, and amazing lobster dinner for an excellent price.

Yelp
We were recommended this spot by a deli in the Main Street area because they didn't have a lobster roll. They said if we were up for the walk, it's where all the locals go. So we figured if the calories we were about to consume, we should put the work on with the walk. When you walk in it is more so of a fish market. There are a couple of plastic chairs and tables on the walkway if you are wanting to eat there. This is where we ate too. So like I said, you walk in and you will see all types of seafood in the glass coolers and then they also have a paper menu they will hand you if you want a sandwich. We ordered two lobster rolls and two waters. The price was $80 for the order. There was plenty of lobster. It was chopped in tiny pieces vs traditional chunks and they offer a bag of chips. The walk over was easy, a little far but was nice to see the area while walking over.

Greg F.

Yelp
We ordered scallops and paid next shipping by 3PM! They clearly lied and didn't provide the shipping we paid for because it's slated for delivery by tonight which is regular next day!

Yelp
A solid and easy access spot to get those lobster/clam bake/fried fish dinners you oh so want, when on Nantucket. You can call it in and take it to go, or you can dine on the few tables on their deck (although not the most scenic). You can also get some raw fish to grill/cook yourself. We went with the clambake which ends up giving you the clams/steamers at half off, if you're getting the lobster dinner, anyway. The bake comes with 1.25 lb lobster, 1/2 lb steamers, 1/2 lb mussels, potatoes and corn and chowder. While everything is solid, you're there more for the ease. They definitely run on island time, and you'll have a bit of wait after their quoted time, so keep that in mind. The seafood is fresh, albeit by the time you get home, a bit overcooked. If you're not interested in cooking your own crustacean, Sayles is a great spot with a menu for everyone.

Yelp
Got fried bay scallop rolls twice the week I was in island in February. The scallops are juicy, sweet and fried properly. There's a little of them served on a soft toasted hamburger style bun with tartar sauce and a bag of chips on the side. I did get a side of cole slaw the second time. A full dinner would have been too much - scallops, fries, cup of chowder and cole slaw. There is no inside seating available and it was raining hard so no outdoor seating was possible. Plus it was close to freezing outside. It's simple, quick easy and very good. Order ahead to save time. What more could I ask for?

Mike H.

Yelp
The best chowda , and the bay scallops were fresh and very yummy so if your traveling to Nantucket it's a definite stop try nice front porch to eat
google avatar

Yelp
2 words: fried scallops. We were in Nantucket last April and were a little scared we wouldn't get the full island experience during the off season. But Sayle's gave us that New England seafood shack vibe we wanted and we found ourselves eating there twice in 2 days. The platters were abundant with food and the clam chowder was perfectly comforting for the dampness of early spring. We loved getting our food to go and dining by the water. This is Nantucket so be prepared to $pend but know that you'll leave with a full belly and a smile on your face!

Michael B.

Yelp
Fried bay scallop roll was the bomb. My son got a chicken tenders meal with slaw, fries and a cup of chowder. It could have fed 4 adults. Great prices and very friendly staff. The fresh seafood looked amazing, too
google avatar

Kim L.

Yelp
What a great lobster dinner!!! Placed our order ahead of time. Ready for pickup when we arrived. Had a fried clam dinner with fresh, tender clams. We also had 3 lobster dinners with delicious clam chowder, tasty lobster, steamed potatoes and sweet corn. Prices were reasonable for fully cooked dinners. Such a great way to enjoy lobster to go in Nantucket.
google avatar

Tara W.

Yelp
Sayles is THE place. This is the fish shack locals and tourists alike will rave about. The seafood is so fresh, you can't beat it. If picking for home, our go-to is the lobster dinners (comes with corn, chowder, and steamed red potatoes), and we add a side of little necks. If wandering in for lunch, the lobster salad roll and fried clams will knock your socks off! Small seating area outside, no frills = perfect. Our suggestion, grab to go and then enjoy by the water! Staff is friendly. Worth the $$$$.

Yelp
We had the best experience at this off the beaten path place! The service was extremely friendly and welcoming! It's very low key and obviously frequented by the locals! I'm so glad we decided to give them a try! It's a walk from the center of town but worth it! We had lobster , corn, potatoes and clam chowder. It was all amazing and fairly inexpensive! We both ate for about $65. They do not offer indoor dining as it is also a seafood market. They do however offer outdoor dining! It's casual and first come first serve for seating. Everything was fresh and amazing! We highly recommend trying this place. It was definitely one of our favorite meals while on the island!

Jean D.

Yelp
Best fish and fries along with friendly staff. Outdoor seating extends the friendly vibe of talking to other customers. My family and I have been enjoying this great place for many years. Never been disappointed with the fresh fish.
google avatar

Brendan T.

Yelp
A few friends and I ordered shrimp, clam and fish diners at Sayle's. The spot is part raw market, part takeout stand sitting right on the bay. Expect to wait for your food during summer as they are inundated with pick up orders. The staff was transparent and lets you know beforehand when to expect your food. The fried seafood was good but not spectacular. I found the batter overbearing, masking the flavor of the fish due to the slightly overcooked exterior. The oysters were very good. Nice smooth texture, medium salinity, slight hint of sweetness at the outset (skip the side sauce). Clearly most of their business comes from bulk lobster bake orders and raw fish sales. If you do visit that's your best bet. The location is ideal, right on Nantucket bay but there are better fried seafood options.
google avatar

Yelp
Are you looking to get away from the expensive tourist traps and willing to walk a few blocks to get great seafood at good prices? Then Sayle's is the place. We took a chance based on other reviews and walked down to it. Not only is the walk beautiful but has views of the ocean that you can stop at. The seafood market itself has several tables outside and on their porch. You walk in and order at the counter. The cashier was really sweet and helpful. The clam chowder and shrimp cocktail were amazing. My husband made the best choice. He got the fried fish platter and it was so flavorful and fresh. We couldn't believe the portion size. He got 4 large pieces of fish. This plate should definitely be shared. It comes with a large order of fries and a bowl of clam chowder.
google avatar

Lauren S.

Yelp
This looks to be a great seafood market. We ordered some lunch and ate it right on their deck. Scallops roll was delicious and I also loved the clam chowder !

A Lace P.

Yelp
Yum! This place is amazing. Hidden in a little cove, worth the trip off the beaten path. The service was wonderful, the staff was very friendly and the food was delicious! Highly recommend dining at Sayle's!
google avatar

Fahim R.

Yelp
If you want some great seafood at very reasonable prices and to get away from the crowds near the dock, come here. It's a 15 minute walk from ferries, and well worth it. You order at the counter and they have several outdoor tables. Lobster roll is only available the chilled style, not hot, but it was great and not too much Mayo. Fries were thick and hot and crispy.

Christy A.

Yelp
Really disappointed in the clambake. There was grit in every clam. The corn tasted old and even had a rotten spot. Everything desperately needed salt--the entire thing was just so bland. We ordered to eat there but it still came wrapped up thickly in plastic. They said they pre cracked the lobster, but it wasn't done well, and we really had to wrestle the lobster to get meat (you only get a plastic fork when there). There was no way at all to get the meat from the small parts so we wasted a lot.

Lilly O.

Yelp
My family always does a lobster dinner when we're on island and this is our go to for years. Convenient and fresh. The food is great! Clam chowder is delicious and the corn is perfectly cooked. This year I got the lobster roll and it was really good. However I wish it was served on the traditional lobster roll bread instead of a bun!

Tim F.

Yelp
Always consistent. Great clam chowder base soup to go with the lobster. Nice folks to deal with in the shop.
google avatar

Brian Z.

Yelp
Excellent fried clam roll! This is a great lunch spot that is in walking distance of downtown off the beaten path. Couple of little tables on the front porch.
google avatar

Franny F.

Yelp
Fresh seafood reasonably priced. I came here at the recommendation of my Uber driver and I'm glad I made it in. I had the seafood platter and my friend had the lobster dinner. we enjoyed ourselves. It appears this is a local's favorite because people were in & out. It's best you order take out because seating is limited. Locals probably know already but if it's your first time, plan accordingly.

Yelp
I've never been to this place I'm from NYC but moved to Boca Raton Florida almost 3 years ago. I became addicted to Nantucket Bay Scallops while I was in college at Boston University in the early 1970's my father would come to Boston every month he had a warehouse there and stayed at the Lennox Hotel inside the hotel there was a restaurant called Delmonicos that made the best Nantucket Bay Scallops I learned from them how to properly cook them they come out deliciously amazing every time. I used to pay $50/lb. in NYC at my local fish market the place now sells them for $80/lb. and if yo order them online they cost $89/lb. I won't mention the name of that place. When I moved to Florida I had to find a source for these delicious babies and I'm so happy to find this fantastic place this is my 2nd year getting them from you guys last year I only bought 3 lbs this year I bought 5 lbs the people or persons who took my order are very friendly and helpful I called to follow up when to expect to receive them they come packed the right way in a styrofoam container with enough dry ice they absolutely know what they're doing I've already recommended you to all of my friends on Facebook the only other thing that I can say is THANK You Very Much I know I chose the right company to get these from !!!!!!

Toni S.

Yelp
The place is a seafood market where one can order food which you can eat outside. No wait service. I ordered the clambake which includes boiled potatoes, lobster, steamed mussels and clams, clam chowder and a corn on the cob. The clams were not cleaned...it had a lot of sand, clam chowder was nothing special, lobster was just boiled - nothing special. Had to ask for utensils a couple of times to no avail. I just went in and requested from the cashier. My husband ordered the fried scallops which was not any better. Batter was soggy! Will not recommend!!!!
google avatar

Heather B.

Yelp
If you want to find the freshest and best seafood go to Sayles Seafood! The menu is great and then you can go home with fresh seafood after you are done. Highly recommended by a native!!!!
google avatar

Kim M.

Yelp
We arrived in Nantucket on a Friday evening ready for lobster. We looked at several restaurants and my husband selected this one. So glad he did - very Nantucket feel and great seafood. We ordered lobster which came with their delicious clam chowder. We sat on the porch overlooking the harbor with the smell of sea salt & brine in the air and boats drifting. BTW, this place is BYOB, as are many restaurants on the island. Just ask beforehand. I only give them 4 stars due to lack of communication - our order was 'lost' for 45 minutes. When we brought it to their attention, the food was prepared within minutes. Similar communication& delivery issue among front & kitchen the second time we went. Really good seafood for porch or carry out!
google avatar

Joelle P.

Yelp
Had to wait out on the deck after ordering food and 35 minutes after ordering I went in to cancel because we were catching the evening ferry. The woman barricading the door yelled to the girl at the register who handed out order that was ready and had been sitting there who the F knows how long. The lobster meat was surprising chewy for early August when lobsters have their soft shell and are typically very tender and sweet. It was probably frozen meat. The bun...wow, I've never in 34 years living on cape cod had a lobster roll served on a stale I grilled hamburger bun. Sadly the worst lobster roll I've ever had.
google avatar

Stacey C.

Yelp
Best fried cod sammie I have ever had.......that good. Super casual takeout place with a little porch and dumpy patio to sit on. Savored every bite. This place is a gem.
google avatar

Carl W.

Yelp
shockingly bad. The woman taking my order was super unfriendly and certainly seemed to think she was doing me a favor by allowing me to place an order. a really bad vibe. Further, the food was awful. This includes the lobster roll, the chowder, the fish sandwich, and the steamed clams. I have been to roughly twenty seaside seafood shacks from Canada to Connecticut, and this was the worst by far. The only positive was the prices were on the low side, but I guess you get what you pay for.
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
I never quite understood the places with staff that acted like exchanging food for money was a major annoyance and inconvenience. Sayle's had that kind of individual interacting with customers during my visit. After I ordered and received my scallop dinner, I returned to the counter for what I thought was a simple request. Apparently, her annoyance was prone to spread to the rest of the staff quickly. Me: "do you have a side of corn available?" Her: "what do you mean, corn?" (I thought it was an easy question) Me: "corn on the cob, I saw it in some of the photos. Can I order one?" Her: "I don't know, it depends on how annoyed the cooks will be for making you one." Rude employees are common, but I was hoping that the food would overcome the customer service. It didn't. The fried scallops and the boiled potatoes were fine. The coleslaw was excellent, though! Sweet and tangy and not drowned in mayo. The corn? Who knows, I never saw it...I guess the cooks were annoyed with the request.

Adam S.

Yelp
Sayle's is the best and a family Clam bake is always on the agenda for our vacation week in ACK!
google avatar

Shelley D.

Yelp
All the fresh fried seafood you can possibly think of! This place is a no fuss kind of place where you go in order, and get a heapin fixin of delicious seafood. I had the fried clam bellies, french fries, coleslaw and clam chowder. It was all AMAZING. This place has plastic tables and chairs outside and is kind of a walk from the center of town, but completely worth it. My husband had the fried calamari and it was just delicious.

Haven B.

Yelp
Well worth the walk from town. This place is a little out of the way, but it offers some seriously tasty and fresh fried seafood without all the frills. If you want to come feel like you're paying for great food instead of just the aesthetics of nantucket, this is the place to go.

Turab M.

Yelp
Excellent fresh seafood, we had fried clams, clam chowder, fried fish sandwich. Steamed corn...all were yum!
google avatar

Carolyn V.

Yelp
The Good: :: it's a local business :: it's by the water :: it's inexpensive compared to the rest of the restaurants on the island offering comparable fare :: they sell live seafood (dungeness crabs and lobsters!) :: they sell food cooked like fried shrimp, etc :: sides are tasty The Bad: :: service wasn't the friendiest...definitely grumpy :: food wasn't super exciting. i had the chowder and the crab dinner and the crab was not very flavorful at all :: outdoor seating only The Ugly: :: none Would I go back? Maybe. It's one of the more affordable places on Nantucket to grab a bite but sometimes you really really do get what you pay for. This place is IN (but halfheartedly).

C Z.

Yelp
I've been here a couple times while on island, this summer I felt compelled to write a review! Service is super nice, the woman who runs the show is passionate about her job who wants to provide her customers the best product. She made sure we didn't wait too long for our order because we were there a bit earlier than our order pick up window. We ordered the fisherman's platter with extra fried fish on the side because usually there isn't enough fish at other places. The price to value ratio cannot be beat, 3 giant fish filets, plus shrimp, scallops, clams, fries, slaw plus clam chowder feeds at least 2-3 people. Delicious and fresh. It's insane! We were so stuffed and happy, we couldn't even finish it all unfortunately. definitely worthwhile ordering ahead and the best value on the island. I can't wait to come back just for this meal again.

Sarah S.

Yelp
If you're looking for a delicious and competitively-priced lobster roll (or seafood), this is your place. Delicious lobster roll for only $18. Cheapest I've found on Nantucket but still incredible quality.
google avatar

Lorelei O.

Yelp
Excellent lobster- sweet, tender and steamy hot. Ordered 2 lobster dinners and picked them up to go. Very organized, clean environment and order was ready when we got there. They even put the slaw in a different bag so it would stay cool. Only disappointment was the chowder- too thick, floured even pasty. Sayler's will be a go to next time we are on the island.

Laureen B.

Yelp
We have always ordered from Sayle's but today we were very disappointed , we ordered the lobster salad roll, one of our guests couldn't even eat the sandwich, it was much too spicy. We are to the traditional lobster roll that Sayles used to make with the buttered bun and large chunks of lobster, that is what we thought were were getting. The lobster salad tastes nothing of lobster, more like maybe sea food salad extra spicy, served on a bulkie roll rather than the traditional hot dog bun. The fried clams I would order again, but this is New England, we would much rather the traditional lobster roll

Yelp
2nd time in about 3 weeks. They forgot out xtra coleslaw that we paid xtra for on our bill. Called they said next time let us know because first they wanted us to come back but with a little one waiting to eat we were not coming back. We ordered tonight and told them about xtra coleslaw. They said okay. Again we get home no xtra coleslaw. Very disappointed. Also the plates were slacking on French fries tonight also. Lucky to be given a 3 star. Fish was good, chowder was great and the chicken fingers were good minus getting honey mustard. If we go back we will check the bags before we leave.
