Award-Winning Winery Sbragia Family Vineyards Quietly Went Up for Sale | Eater SF

"I've learned that a well-established Sonoma County winery has gone up for sale after its tasting room closed in August; the closure was later clarified but the winery itself remains open. There has been no explanation from founders Ed and Adam Sbragia, while Sam Bronfman, a co‑founder of a private equity firm with a large stake in the brand, cited a “real falloff in visitation at wineries” and noted Sbragia is “off the beaten path,” requiring customers to seek it out. The winery will continue selling wholesale and through its wine club, though Bronfman did not confirm whether it will produce wine for the 2024 vintage, and industry data from Community Benchmark showed tasting‑room traffic was down almost six percent year‑over‑year for January through June 2024." - Justine Jones

The location comes with a beautiful view! We were greeted and seated quickly. It was a pretty quiet day. Sounded like maybe they had kept reservations down because of an event later in the afternoon. Our host provided us a variety starting with their white and moving to the reds. We ended up preferring some of their reds including their dessert (port) wine. Their selections are very reasonably priced compared to some of the other wineries we visited. Definitely came home with some bottles.

Google
This was our first time in wine country and were strongly recommended to go to this vineyard from my parents who make the trip every year, and let me tell you - we now understand why. We had an incredible experience at Sbragia family vineyards this week. We were lucky enough to run in to the owner and learned so much about the history and family roots within this vineyard. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. The wine was incredible as well. I couldn’t say enough good things about this place. We will definitely be back.

Amazing! Love this wine, love the family, and love the views! We had the most wonderful time and enjoyed the hospitality. Hands down, one of my favorite experience ever!

Google
Wonderful wines, and a beautiful view! We bought the sauve blanc and the sparkling rose. The reds were really good; the best one was on the high end of pricey for the area. But the view and the service was fantastic!

We had an incredible afternoon made so much more special by Dave. We loved being guided through Sbragia’s wines and learning the processes. Tuscan board was delicious, with 4 exceptional cheeses, cured meats and all the perfect accoutrements. We were even offered sunscreen since we chose a sunny table :) Thank you for enhancing such a memorable day!

Google
Sbragia is a fun Dry Creek winery at the end of Dry Creek Rd near Lake Sonoma. Formally known as the Lake Sonoma winery, Sbragia sits on the a hillside with spectactular views of the Dry Creek Valley and the Warm Springs Dam (Lake Sonoma). I really enjoy their whites, Sauv Blanc, and Chardonnay, but they have really good reds too. Sbragia particpates in most of the Dry Creek events but my favorite is the Foodie Friday lunches. A pre-identied lunch is sold with a wine paring. It's not cheap, but it is a good value when taste the quality of the of the food. Get there early because they sell out.

Google
Had a really wonderful experience at Sbragia! Our sommelier, Kim, was amazing - she took her time to share her knowledge about the wine options and checked in on us often. It was cold when we were visiting but they were ready with blankets! The atmosphere was simple and the view was beautiful.

Some of the best Chardonnay and the Dry Creek Valley, Super friendly hosts and stunning views of the vineyards

Yelp
We went here for Bob's Burfday a few years ago and brought our own food! But what we loved it and the guy that was our tasting associate was grrreat! He totally took care of us. I wish I could remember his name but I'm thinking his name is David! He took care of us with our food and our disarray the guy was great and even better is he gave us a comparison tasting of the recent Cabernet which was a well structured Cabernet blend with Bordeaux varietals in it and then a straight Cabernet compared with one from 2010?? Which was amazingly delicious!! And so I highly recommend Sbragia as a place to go! That and the views are spectacular from the balcony

Yelp
Been a happy member for a few years now - Sbragia makes some of my favorite wines. Their reds are amazing - cabs are so good, especially the Godspeed. As with many wineries by Dry Creek Valley, they are also known for their zins. The Sbragia family comes around for many of their events - Kevin is often seen pouring during tastings as well since he now runs the winery. Very passionate about winemaking - the tours he gives is great, cool to see the barrels underneath the tasting room. If you ever get a chance to attend one of their events, do so. The Christmas one is my favorite with an ugly Christmas sweater theme - they usually hire a band and host food pairings with different types of wines. Glad to see Leo is now managing the tasting room - he's so friendly and energetic. Oh, and the views are fantastic. Definitely stop by if you're in the area!

Yelp
This winery has an amazing view if you're sitting outside. Our host, Joe was impressive and knows his wines. I really like the Gamble Chardonnay and purchased a bottle. I highly recommend this winery.

Yelp
We had the pleasure of being hosted by owner Ed Sbragia himself. Really enjoyable afternoon talking wine and the history of the winery. He poured us some of his favorites - his incredible Sirahs and Cabernets as the standouts. He's been in the industry for a LONG time, starting out his career at Beringer in the 70's! All of the wines here are delicious and the views are lovely. His Petite Syrah is my favorite - beautifully crafted, great structure, juicy fruit...what's not to love?! Pairs so well with smoked bbq ribs , scalloped potatoes, salad, and great friends. We definitely recommend a visit to Sbragia.

Yelp
Me and my family showed up without an appt this weekend and they seated us on their shaded balcony. The view was beautiful despite the slight haze (due to a fire up north somewhere). Leo was very friendly and generous. He over all gave us a great experience. The charcuterie board was also a perfect addition to the tasting. We will be returning next time we're in the area.

Yelp
My favorite winery! It's at the end of dry creek road, but it's worth the drive over. You'll be treated with amazing wine, a beautiful view of the valley, and hospitable staff (shoutout to Kim!). Join the wine club, try some of Jessica's food, and go to the events.
google avatar

Douglas B.

Yelp
Avoid Sbragia! Or, at least don't join their wine club, unless you're prepared for a lifetime commitment. The wine is okay, but once you start a club membership with them, it's harder to get out of than a time share. Seriously, I had an easier time ending my first marriage. I've gotten more responsive service at the DMV. I have tried calling and emailing to cancel our membership, for months. Sometimes they answer me, and say the right thing, but then they don't follow through with their promises. Mostly, they don't respond at all. They just keep shipping me unwanted wine, and billing my card. I am going to have to permanently block them through my credit card company.

Yelp
I would have never imagined that I will be writing a one star review for Sbragia. Visiting them was a highlight of our passport weekend, ever since Willy wonka chocolate event in 2018. Well - here comes one star review, and our desire not to visit them for future passport events. And not to purchase anything. We arrived at 3:55, with passport theoretically closing at 4. For reference, a day earlier, we hanged around in peace at Cast until 4:30. Well, at 3:55, we are told that they are closed. And when my wife asked for the bathroom, she was informed - I cannot share this information with you. We left. My wife did not use their bathroom. And the sour taste stayed with us all the way home. Removing Sbragia from our passport list. Very disappointed. Very

Yelp
First time visiting and I wasn't disappointed, not one bit! We had the best server, he was very knowledgeable and personable. The wines were tasty and the view was amazing. Definitely worth a revisit!

Yelp
We arrived at 3:20 pm on Sunday, which was on Passport Weekend. They should have been closing at 4:00, so we arrived with plenty of time to spare. Upon arriving, the staff didn't make us feel comfortable. It was really cold and windy outside and they had already put most of the seating away (outdoors). Our party sat down on a table, which was the only one available. After 5 minutes, an employee walked up and informed us that the room was for the groom (they had a wedding scheduled shortly), so he politely asked us to leave. My friend, suffering from a bad knee, had nowhere to sit down and she had to sit on the floor. I sat down to be with her. Again, there was nowhere else to sit because they had already put all the chairs away and people were sitting on the tables that were left. The same employee that asked us to vacate the table then walked outside and started complaining to another one of his colleagues. I became aware because another person in our party was outside and listened to the entire conversation, not knowing that she was part of our party. He complained that "he was done", "he couldn't wait for today to be over" and "they are sitting on the floor to protest". This was an incredibly inappropriate to say to a customer, and more importantly, to say this in the presence of another customer! The service was terrible, they did not make us feel comfortable and their personnel are not nice to their customers. I am planning to avoid this winery for Passport Weekend, moving forward. I recommend others to do the same!

Yelp
I've been coming here for years at the courtesy of my friend who is a member. Great wine, check. Beautiful scenery, check. Great service, check. Wine is definitely subject to personal taste and for me, this place hits the spot! Love their cabernet sauvignons which all come with rich flavor profiles. Sauvignon blanc and chardonnay are good here as well. They also have unique zinfandel that is not super jammy tasting, merlot, petite syrah, the occasional dessert wine, etc. The patio offers a great view and when it's cold outside but you still want to enjoy the crisp air just switch on heat lamps, pile on their blankets, and sip wine to warm you up from the inside.

Lisa M.

Yelp
My husband and I had a wonderful experience here. The wines are great and the view from the terrace is spectacular. A special thanks to Leo who was warm & welcoming and made our tasting experience special. Also appreciate the dog friendly atmosphere. Thank you Leo! We can't wait to return and bring friends.

Yelp
They double charged me for a wine order. They shipped both orders and refuse to acknowledge my calls and emails requesting a refund. Very unhappy and will be disputing the charge with my credit card. So disappointed in the lack of communication or common decency.

Yelp
Totally loved this winery... gorgeous setting overlooking beautiful vines and (currently) green hillside. Marty was a phenomenal host and so extremely knowledgeable about all of the fabulous wines Sbragia makes! Did you know that Zinfandel originated in Croatia? Neither did I. Very nice wines in a beautiful setting: you definitely wanna visit in the warmer months so that you can sit outside on the beautiful expansive veranda and check out the Geyserville scenery. Check it out!!

Yelp
Pumped and repaired our septic tank. Came out quickly to help in Kenwood. Great service!
google avatar

Sara B.

Yelp
Charming and great wine. Sitting high above the vineyards you can sit in the sun or shade, it wasn't too busy which was nice :)
google avatar

Mark B.

Yelp
Though I promised myself I wouldn't join another wine club, Sbragia changed my mind. We did the sensory tasting and learned a lot of unexpected aspects of wine tasting and laughed a lot. Friendly service, beautiful views, and a covered deck for a picnic lunch after.
google avatar

Ellen M.

Yelp
Such a lovely winery to visit! Scott was our host for our tasting and he was perfect: friendly, attentive, knowledgeable. The wines are good. We enjoyed the Chardonnay, Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. The tasting was done on an enormous patio with spectacular views. Tasting fee is waived with the purchase of wines.
google avatar

Tina O.

Yelp
Thanks to Adam for a lovely tasting experience. This winery is worth a visit if only for the view. We were allowed to bring our own picnic lunch to enjoy their deck and views while having a seated tasting. I have to say overall I was not too excited about any particular wine - but we all have different palates so they might work for you. Probably my favorite though was the Home Ranch Chardonnay - light crisp with tastes of Apple/Citrus/Vanilla - a lovely summer wine for $30. We tasted a few Cabs - -my friend liked them all but I'm not a Cab fan so none of them resonated with me. It is a lovely winery though - check it out.
google avatar

David C.

Yelp
The views are amazing - wines equally stunning. Safira went above and beyond to ensure our experience was stellar. One of the best hidden gems. They welcome dogs too!

Peter G.

Yelp
This winery has amazing views from there outdoor deck and a beautiful tasting room. The wines were very good and we had an amazing host. Highly recommend checking out Sbragia.
google avatar

Gary C.

Yelp
We headed to Sbragia as our last winery stop for the day, because we wanted to save the nice view for last. Granted it situated at the end of the road, and at the hill top. From their patio you can view the dry creek valley, which I will admit it is beautiful. It remains me of the view from Sterling Vineyard at Napa valley. Anyhow, the tasting room is huge but there is only one counter for tasting. They also specialize in zinfandel like the rest of dry creek valley but it wasn't as tasty as the other places. They would waiver the tasting fee if you buy a bottle of wine. Tasting fee was $20, quite a lot for drycreek valley, but it would be waived if you buy any bottle of wine.

Yelp
This stop was a pleasant surprise. We were at a neighboring place and we asked them where they send their friends, and they said, with little prompting, Sbragia, and so off we went. The wine is great, and, knowing that the wine maker worked at Beringer for a number of years, it was expected. What wasn't expected was the great patio with spectacular views of the surrounding area. We bought a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc and shared it among our group of four out on the patio beneath the shade of a great umbrella. I'll be back....
google avatar

Jeff M.

Yelp
We learned that egg salad and cabernet sauvignon actually go well together. How does someone learn that? Visit Sbragia Family Vineyards on Sunday Funday and enjoy wines by the glass for $5.00 and sandwiches for $8.00. Take your feast and find a place on the deck, enjoy live music and beautiful views of the Dry Creek Valley. Sbragia makes very good wine and the venue is very nice. I am a big fan of their Cabernets, especially ones sourced from Napa. Why am I not giving Sbragia a five star review? We ordered wine by the glass instead of the discounted bottle and they only gave us about a 3oz pour. Wines are great and priced good. I will continue to enjoy but will purchase at Total Wine and enjoy at home.
google avatar

Sheila R.

Yelp
Beautiful venue with spectacular views over the area. Sbragia makes amazing wines, including a host of single vineyard cabs!!! We had a very pleasant tasting here and our server was even kind enough to bring our wines outside to us as we finished. Located next to lake Sonoma which is a gorgeous man made lake .
google avatar

Jason H.

Yelp
The tasting room has great views large seating areas that don't feel cramped. Most of the bottles of wines here are on the more expensive side compared to large production wineries. Being a wine club member you get free pours in the tasting room and a discount from the full retail price of bottles. They also have promo's throughout the year where you can get even larger discounts. I would recommend anyone give them a try to see if the style matches their pallet.
google avatar

Yelp
Came here for Mother's Day with a group of 10. The staff was very nice and knowledgeable about the wines. The view is outstanding and has a very relaxing atmosphere. My favorite wine from the tasting was the Chardonnay! Will be back!
google avatar

Kaitlen P.

Yelp
We had an amazing experience at Sbragia! Reef was amazing and took great care of us! Loved all of the wines and ended up joining the wine club. Reef made our experience. Can't recommend enough.

Yelp
This is a great location to go and kick up your feet and relax with a glass of rosé, by far the best wine we tried on our visit here. The staff was lovely and the first person who helped us was very knowledgeable and friendly, we really enjoyed her help. We did have a second person come help us as I am assuming our initial host had to take a lunch (being in the business myself, I know sometimes you get pulled away without notice and are told to take a lunch, so no hard feelings about them leaving). Our second host was nice enough, but sort of just came out, poured the wine and said enjoy, fine if you just want to drink and relax, but I am always interested in hearing more about the winery and the wine itself. We did enjoy a nice relaxing mid morning tasting and snacks on their patio which has a fantastic view of the valley right beneath the dam at Lake Sonoma. Their food was very good as well, however, the wine left something to the imagination, in my opinion a little overpriced for the quality of the wine. Good, not great. For instance, their Howell Mountain Cabernet, my all time favorite region, at $125/bottle, seemed a very diluted and "weak" cab, especially since every other Howell Mountain Cab I have ever tried (ranging from $65-$400, not a cheap AVA) has always been deep, bold, and phenomenal. Their white wines are well priced and unassuming, but also, nothing to write home about. We will for sure be back, but will probably just go to grab a glass of rosé and maybe a sandwich before hitting the lake. Worth a visit!
google avatar

Steve M.

Yelp
Place is beautiful, whine is great. Food tray was awesome. But the server dude was over the top and made us wait forever between pours. We are on a motorcycle dude.... It's cold and dark Dave.... We want to go home. Just pour the whine Dave.

Rajen K.

Yelp
DO NOT join their wine club. This is a really tough review for us to write. Sbragia is where I proposed and we eventually held a small wedding ceremony. However, I've had some poor experiences at the winery recently. The staff forgot to order our lunch during a recent tasting, we've had excessively priced bottles ($100+ cab) added to our shipments, and we learned that our favorite staff members were no longer part of the winery after the COVID shutdown. Because of these unfortunate circumstances, I've decided to leave the wine club and support other local wineries. I honestly hoped that I could return to Sbragia in the future but I can no longer support this business on an on-going basis. However, Amy Ryan, their club manager insists that I pay a $50 cancellation fee to leave their wine club. This is even after we've spent over $2000 at their winery over the last 6 months between wine purchases and the events we've hosted there. Not once did anyone even ask me about my experience and why I wanted to leave the club. They just mentioned I signed up for 3 shipments and if I wanted to leave "early" I would have to pay. It's so sad to see the staff of this winery nickel and diming their customers. Go to Sbragia, enjoy the view and wine, the company of the few good staff remaining, but don't join the wine club.

Yelp
Awesome place to stop on a wine tasting adventure. Beautiful views, freindly staff and great wines. Its a perfect place to relax and have a tasting with outdoor lounge seating available. Even have toc tack toe and cornhole! A must stop!!!!!
google avatar

Christina J.

Yelp
We were there visiting for a wine tasting and were treated very well . We enjoyed the wine selection not to mention the great hospitality that came along with the tasting. The view is beyond amazing. They even made it possible for us to make it to our next tasting at a nearby vineyard. Definitely make this a part of your experience!
google avatar

Yelp
We love Sbragia! We were just married here and guests couldn't stop complimenting the wines and how beautiful the area is.
google avatar

Tom S.

Yelp
The final wine tasting room before you leave dry creek road and turn left to ascend the road up to Sonoma lake dam. Sbragia is a good winery and nice tasting room in this valley too full of wineries. Enoy the scenic views down the valley when you're perched up on the patio deck. Nice people serve the wines here. I like the crisp white wines they make. Bottle prices range from high 20's to mid $40's

P T.

Yelp
We stopped in without a reservation but winery was recommended by a local friend. So glad we did! Leo and staff were very friendly and accommodating. Great wine and nice view from the terrace. Chef Jessica prepared a delicious cheese platter with our wine tasting. The cheddar with mushroom jam on top and goat cheese were excellent! Definitely would recommend and plan on visiting again!
google avatar

Jeff P.

Yelp
Wow! Just about all of the wines I tried at Sbragia were outstanding. In fact, I loved 6 out of the 7 I got to taste. They were all richly textured, complex and flavorful. Our pourer was extremely attentive and informative. The tasting room and the building in general are a bit sterile in appearance. However, the tasting room opens onto an enormous terrace with gorgeous views of the Dry Creek Valley. This is definitely a new fave of mine and I wouldn't be surprised if I join their wine club on my next visit. On this trip I left with the 2007 Sauvignon Blanc, 2004 Home Ranch Merlot and the 2004 Gino's Vineyard Zinfandel.
google avatar

Yelp
My family has been coming here for over ten years and we love it. This is a true local winery that should be on everyone's list when they come to Dry Creek. I came here with 12 other girls for a bachelorette party and we all had a great time. We were late for our table reservation (you try herding 12 drunk girls!) and they were totally ok with it. We reserved a long table on the beautiful deck out back. They comped our cheese plates just because and poured six amazing wines. The staff was friendly and did a great job with the wine descriptions. The view is the winning feature here along with the wines so be sure to make this a stop when you're in Dry Creek Valley!
google avatar

Daphne B.

Yelp
Wow I really feel like a wine snob but this is not worth the trek out there. From the reviews I imagined a beautiful vista however, I feel like there are plenty of beautiful wineries in this region and Sbagia doesn't stand out. Their wine wasn't very good except for their zins (Gino) and I did feel some pressure to buy from tasting room staff. Sbagia felt very sterile brought to you in part by their commercialized tasting room. I felt like my wine tasting experience may have been different otherwise. Free tasting for visa signature.
google avatar

Rene C.

Yelp
One of the many benefits of living in Northern California is we can easily hit up some of the worlds best wineries. Dry Creek is a short drive over the Golden Gate, and even though you're only an hour and 15 minutes from the hustle and bustle of San Francisco, you feel like you're a 1000 miles from anywhere....It's a great feeling. We recently made an overnight trip to Wine Country and hit up a few wineries that (for whatever reason) we had never been. Sbragia (I must admit), was not on my radar but our friends from Texas said it came highly recommended from another winery. I came with high expectations, but for me it just missed the mark. I am usually one who appreciates smaller boutique wineries, so to be fair you may prefer Sbragia. The winery rests on a hill and offers a fantastic view of the valley. But a few things for missed the mark. The winery is lavish and seemed to attract the Ritz Carlton crowd (not a super bad thing), but again I am one who prefers a casual setting. The tasting fee of $15.00 is one of the higher fees you will find. The wine (albeit) good, was a little on the pricey side considering the quality of those found in the area. Sbragia is the perfect winery to bring your out of town friends. But if you're truly looking for a unique wine tasting experience, there are plenty of others in the area I would check out.
google avatar

Justin E.

Yelp
Beautiful views from an elevated panoramic deck. Great place to hang out. What I love most about this place is that you can purchase meats, cheeses, and crackers next to the indoor bar... they will make you a charcuterie plate! Why don't other vineyards do this? The snacks really brought out the flavors in the wine. The Zinfandel was a standout. Pinot Noir was also good. Sbragia is definitely worth a visit as it is different from other wineries with their elevated deck and charcuterie offering.

Yelp
An absolutely phenomenal vineyard that is a must see if you are in the area. First off the staff are so incredibly kind and make you feel warm and welcome during your tasting. The food is absolutely phenomenal from the burrata to the lemon rose popcorn. The view is incredible - one you shouldn't miss! The staff accommodated a photoshoot for us here which was amazing. They are swish and spit friendly. We absolutely loved our visit and highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Hubby, myself, and my brother-in-law knew we were coming out to Geyserville for a little fun and wine. Decided last minute that morning that since the weather was so nice we would go to Sbragia since the pictures showed us some great views. The pictures do not even do this place justice! What an absolutely gorgeous place!!!! As for the wines, WOW! I am a red wine girl and really am not pleased by most whites so when we were started on white wines for our flight I was a little apprehensive. The Chardonnay here is TO DIE FOR!! I have never feel in love with a Chardonnay before, but I did. After that my expectations were blown away by this place...the wine kept getting more and more fantastic as the flight went on. Shawn (spelling) was amazing and poured us wines not even on the list to show us the range and beauty of these wines. Needless to say it took no convincing to get us to become members that day! I can't wait to bring all my family and friends up there to experience the magic and spend some more time with my new Sbragia Family!

Yelp
This was a great find. Their wines seem more like what Italian wines are probably characteristic of because they were a bit different than what we're used to tasting around here. They reminded me of wines that are drank with olives, charcuterie and strong cheeses. I could taste a bit of character trying to creep into the flavors but couldn't really find the flavor I knew these wines had. I sensed potential. So I ended up buying a plain white cheese with rosemary crackers and that did the trick. Even the wine pourer mentioned how amazing the wine was with the cheese we picked out. He brought out a cheese board and knife and away we went. That's when we took it outside, took a selfie and truly admired the way this wine is supposed to be enjoyed - with food. It's not the type that you drink on it's own. We bought their Howell mountain wine to pair it with a dinner; how we typically have our wines. This one I'll dare to try with a bolognese sauce or buttered seafood dish and maybe take out my red and white table cloth if not at an Italian restaurant but I'm sure they won't have these views.

Yelp
Was just remembering a visit years ago. Terrible winery. Weird Bald stocky guy. Was rude. Wines were NOT what they were cracked up to be.
google avatar

Jason Z.

Yelp
The views are outstanding Come look at the views and enjoy a nice picnic. Grab a bottle and enjoy the view. Matt and his staff are very nice. I love it and can't wait to come back Try out some new wines and you will enjoy the whole day. It's out of this world crazy good. They hold other events there as well which looks very nice. The parking is easy and drive out is really relaxing.

Yelp
The grounds are beautiful at Sbragia, and its placement on the hill gives sweeping views of the valley below. It's a great spot for pictures. Staff was courteous and answered even the dumbest questions from members of our tour group without any attitude. Most of the wines were good, but the sauvignon blanc really stood out. My husband and I were surprised how much we liked it since we usually stick with New Zealand SBs.
google avatar

Jim R.

Yelp
A beautiful spot high in the Sonoma hills. Wines are good tasting and reasonably priced. They also sell some cheese and crackers and the four of us enjoyed our wine out on their large patio overlooking the valley. Very scenic. Also enjoyed a free tasting (due to showing our VISA signature credit card), an unexpected bonus.
