The Pros and Cons of Staging in a Restaurant | Eater

"A one-month pastry stage at a Swedish hotel was highly structured and educational: the visiting pastry chef designed a regimen to teach pastry fundamentals, culminated the placement with a collaborative dessert project, and left the stagiaire professionally energized and inspired despite the personal financial cost of travel and living expenses." - Jonathan Kauffman

My dad and I stayed one night and were very pleased with the experience. We parked in the city center, a few minutes walk from the hotel. Parking was free (during certain hours). We got upgraded to a room with views over the harbour. Clean and modern room, WiFi worked well and the location was very convenient (but quiet). Great breakfast and polite receptionists.

The hotel is generally modern with a great central location on a small hill between the harbors. We had a very nice corner room overlooking the boats harbor (not the ferry harbor). Lovely terrace by the lobby bar overlooking the water. The town was very quiet so no issue with noise. Limited menu for dinner and few people eating, but the view is excellent. Breakfast was extensive and very good. Limited paid parking on two levels with separate entrances. Get the details when you check in. Be wary of paying for parking and no spaces left, we got the last one. There is town parking nearby as well.

We stayed 2 nights in this hotel with our dog and the first night some alarm that went off in the bathroom at 2 in the morning. While the night receptionist tried to help us, he really couldn’t as the maintenance needed to do an intervention on the roof. The hotel was full so we had to sleep in the room and we were provided with earplugs. The next morning, we got a new room and were generously compensated. The client satisfaction is really important for this hotel, you can tell. The breakfast was good and offered a lot of different choices for all preferences, there even was someone cooking eggs for you. The rooms were nice, big + for the big balcony we got on our second night with the evening sun. Really perfect. Thank you

What a beautiful location of the hotel. The lobby has a great view to the seaside. With these big size windows in the lobby, they have got a great view. Also the restaurant where the breakfast happens has an amazing view and also outside seating that is just top class. You could just sit outside almost at the edge enjoying the whole view from the top of a hill. Loved the setting and ambience around. In the evening, it’s so cozy with usually a singer playing or generally with the lights and all. Cocktails are absolutely amazing. Loved the overall feeling. Rooms were average, I expected more coz we paid extra for an upgrade with a balcony room. But room was very basic.

You are definitely paying for the location! It was incredibly expensive, like about twice that of similar hotels elsewhere and there was nothing to back that up, besides the sea view. Upon arrival their parking lot was full and we had to park about a kilometre away and walk back. It was free, but with luggage, this was annoying. In the bathroom they had positioned paper tissues (for your face) literally directly above the toilet bowl. Any flushing would go right up on them, guaranteed. Very unhygienic and honestly just not ok. There was also soap in the conditioner dispenser, for some reason. The room was very hot as well, with no aircon, but the window could be opened completely, which helped. Although the nightlife ambiance outside was LOUD. The breakfast was excellent and the service was very pleasant. If you want a sea view and easy access to Strömstad and you don't mind paying an arm and a leg, go for it. Otherwise, most alternatives would be better, unfortunately.

Good location, clean rooms, nice breakfast. Room had all the necessities. A bit expensive, however.
