My first time here today and I have to say, it was such a great dinner and atmosphere! Jamie was so polite, and also very helpful and knowledgeable about menu items and helped make the experience special. She’s awesome! I ended up getting the pasta pescatore and am so glad I did! As a seafood lover, it can sometimes be hit and miss, but it was delicious and tasted fresh. The soup was great, and the salad was nice and cold, crisp, and delicious. 10/10

Great first time experience! Solo traveling nurse, walked over from hotel next door. Seated quickly, food was great. Lasagna was very good and had a lot of layers. The meat sauce was flavorful and plentiful. Lots of couples on date night here, but friendly vibe for a Solo. Will return soon to try other dishes ! Can’t wait!

I've lived in Glendalr for a long time but I had never been to this Italian restaurant. The service was great. We showed up, unknowing the number of persons in the group. We had 2 additions. The staff never complained. The server was attentive and helpful. The food was delicious and plentiful. I had the chicken milanese. It was a nice size portion, and the chicken was juicy. The chicken milanese dinner came with a cup of soup and salad. My friends had a pizza that was a good portion. They enjoyed the taste. The appetizer of sliced fresh tomatoes and basil with mozzarella was fresh and a good portion size. We had a few other dishes, and no one complained. The atmosphere looks like it's from the 1970s. The place is small. The patrons were lively. The parking is plentiful at night because we're allowed to park in the lot next door. The prices were as expected. Overall, we will be back again to try some of the other dishes and enjoy the food customer service.

I used to eat here when I was working in the area. My first time back in 9 years. Nothings changed everything is still great!

Authentic Italian restaurant, down to the checkered tablecloths. A nice step up from Olive Garden, Buca di Beppo, or Old Spaghetti Factory. Highly recommend the Chicken Valdostano. It's like if cordon bleu was light years better. The minestrone that came with it was nice

So happy we came here for family dinner. The food was delicious. Enjoy my chicken picatta. The lemon sauce was perfection. My husband had the meatball pasta. He surely enjoyed it. My daughter had a simple fettuccine alfredo, she loved it. The bread served to use was also soft and easy to bite. Homie atmosphere. Will definitely come again. Don't forget to order an ice cream creamy goodness.

My husband and I were in the area for the night. We wanted something local and boy did this place deliver! Great customer service, delicious food and an affordable price! I would highly recommend it if you're in the mood for delicious Italian food come and eat here!

The food was absolutely delicious. This little family owned restaurant is highly recommended. The wait staff was also exceptional and the girls are absolutely adorable. We had the portobello mushroom starter and we were not disappointed. The meals came with a cup of minestrone soup and a salad with the tastiest house dressing. I orderef the canneloni and it was the best I've ever had. My husband ordered the spaghetti and mushrooms in a tomato and sherry sauce. It, too, was delicious. We ate only half of our entrees and are looking forward to the leftovers. We rounded out our dinner with a shared tiramisu. It was as delicious as it looks. If i could give this restsurant more than 5 stars, i happily would. Thank you for the lovely Italian experience. As I enter the restaurant, it kind of brought me back to South Philadelphia. Definitely very Italian restaurant's environment. I suppose I got lucky, I had a great server also. Most of the food is great, except I've had better Eggplant Parmigiana. I expected kind of a flattened breaded eggplant .

Sunday Night Family Italian spot. Wow. Electric. The place was packed with families at tables. There were other people carrying out cardboard boxes filled with to-go bags. This reminds me of any family style New England spot... you know - "The one in town". HISTORY! Check their website. Scroll to the bottom. PARKING Whether you're just picking up or sitting down for a long meal, there's easy free parking in the lot next door, just east of the restaurant. SERVICE Despite being a busy night, we only had to wait a few short minutes before Anthony sat us at a comfy booth style 4-top. (Reservations are for groups of 5 or more) Despite the busy - it was busy - night, all the servers were great and happy - food came hot. FOOD Bread came to the table, but we ordered a loaf of garlic bread anyway (we carb load hard) STARTERS - get these: The Portabello mushrooms are loaded with garlic and butter. The mozzarella and tomato with tons of freshly julienned basil (oil and vinegar on the side) - it was devoured before a photo. Dinners come with a salad and soup. Salad: Simple salad with dressing (1000 island style dressing). Amazing tomatoes. Soup: A cup of house minestrone? Has wheat noodles in it. Our server switched out for salad because of Gluten allergic people. More food MAINS* GLUTEN FREE PASTA They have a corn based GF pasta that is great pairing with sauces. Eggplant Parmigiana A stack of breaded eggplants with tons of melted mozzarella cheese. I'd definitely get this again. The sauce and garlic bread are a perfect match. I wanna roll up my sleeves and make a sandwich outta it (including the spaghetti). Chicken Rolletini (GF) My daughter loved this. "It's great" Baked Manicotti + sausage My son can EAT, but this is a lot of food! Creamy sauce with the garlic bread is also a super combo. The side "add-on" sausage comes on a plate separately from the main dish (my son loved it). Made awesome leftovers. Pasta Tino (GF) Swapped the pasta for gluten free version. Fantastic sausage and flavor of artichoke hearts make the dish. If you like artichoke flavor - this is for you. *There is a lot of food. We brought home two bags of leftovers for lunch the next day. PRICE The price of dinners before wine was very reasonable. The food - the people - the atmosphere - the family vibe of the customers around you - worth it!! (Also this was plenty of leftovers for lunch the next day!) Dessert next time. They have cannoli. Cmon. I'm stuffed.

We've been coming here for years..... I absolutely love this place. Best minestrone soup around. Everyone is really lovely that works there. Super cozy old school Italian restaurant.

Came in and was greeted right away. Staff were friendly and inviting. Restaurant was nicely decorated and intimate. The food was really good. The bread was pillowy and soft. The manicotti was cheesy and delicious. The lasagna was layered great meat & cheese ratio. The Italian sausage had good seasoning and a great flavor. Come hungry and you'll still leave with left overs. Price point is $$-$$$ but the portions are large and filling. The spumoni ice cream was really good and you could taste each flavor. Would definitely come back. A nice touch was the owner came by and recommended a few dishes to try since I had never been here before. Would recommend and dine again.

Always fantastic food, get there early. It tends to get crowded once in a while. The waiters are friendly that's a good place to have a great Italian meal.

This review is 55 years late! I have been eating at Scarantino's since I was a little girl, and it has remained consistently delicious! My favorites are the minestrone soup with the wonderful bread and butter, the manicotti, the cannelloni, and the gnocchi with meat sauce. But the whole menu is wonderful! The service is great and the staff warm and friendly. Compared to other restaurants, they have barely raised their prices over the years. I am finally writing a review to help keep this fabulous place afloat. While chatting with my waitress and commenting on how happy I was to see it busy last week, she remarked that it hasn't been that busy all the time, and if they have a poor winter they may close. They will celebrate 60 years in February, so if you love Italian food and value Glendale landmarks, please eat here soon and often!

First timer here! Absolutely loved the authentic and cozy atmosphere of the restaurant and I appreciated the staff offering exceptional service by being really attentive of their customers! I had the Baked Manicotti. It's exactly how it's described but honestly it sounds much better on paper... It was basically an Italian enchilada but the combination of a crepe and ricotta cheese wasn't it. I'd recommend to order something else off the menu. I'd also suggest skipping the bread since it isn't served toasted/warm, therefore it tastes slightly stale, not worth the calories or carbs imo. Nonetheless, I was a satisfied costumer with the delicious soup and salad offered with the meal, I was not expecting that treat! It's evident this restaurant tries to go above and beyond and for that I applaud them!

Been coming to Scarantino's for about 10 years. I love it! It has that cozy family vibe and the food is always delicious. I grew up with Italian from Chicago and Scarantino's makes me feel right at home. The staff has always been friendly and engaging. Also, save room for the Spumoni! It's some of the best I've ever had. Always looking forward to coming back!

If you've never eaten at Scarantino's, pull out your calendar right now and make a plan, because this is a fantastic find -- and boy, am I glad I finally found this place. I've lived in Los Angeles (San Fernando Valley) for 37 years and hadn't heard of it until today, so now I'm mourning the many years of meals I haven't had. A family operation that's been open since 1967 (with related family restaurant roots going even further back to 1949), Scarantino's is a gem of an old-school Italian restaurant full of warmth, charm and friendly service that immediately makes you feel like you're eating at home instead of out. The dining room is a complete throwback to mid-century America, which is tremendous fun. As spotlessly clean as if my own, finicky mother was in charge, the decades-old decor (wood paneled walls, red & white checkered table cloths) transports you to a time when you could dine out on plentiful servings of good quality food for a reasonable price. And that's not just a feeling you get from the retro ambiance, because Scarantino's proves this is still possible today. Each entree is served with a salad topped with a tasty dressing they've bolstered with a dash of Parmesan, and a cup of homemade minestrone soup built from a hearty broth packed with fresh vegetables, potatoes and macaroni. This is elemental stuff that'll get you properly prepared for the main attraction. On to the entrees. My wife ordered the Chicken Voldostano, a breast that's stuffed with Italian ham and Provolone then sauteed with butter, lemon and fresh mushrooms. The chicken was light and flavorful in its simple sauce, the ham and cheese adding a luxurious depth without being salty (a frequent, unfortunate trait of ham & cheese stuffings, but not here). I ordered the Veal Parmigiana -- a simply breaded and fried cutlet topped with fresh mozzarella, resting on a light, slightly acidic tomato sauce. The veal was tender and tasty, with the melted fresh mozzarella being a welcome departure from the heavier servings of cheese offered at most places. Both dishes were accompanied by spaghetti, which we asked to have tossed in olive oil & garlic rather than marinara; the light, herbaceous bite was a nice contrast to the heartier preparations of our meats. Remember what I said about reasonable prices? Well, each of our entrees was $22 including the soup, salad and spaghetti, which is quite a bargain in today's economy. Especially considering this is very high quality, great tasting food. Couple all this with a friendly, gregarious waitress and a laid-back crowd of couples and families, and you've got the perfect spot to enjoy the kind of meal you used to when you were a kid. And now that I finally know about Scarantino's, I'll be back frequently to try most everything else on the menu. Like I said, grab your date book and book a date for dinner. You'll be very happy you did.

We took my parents here for my mom's 86th birthday. The staff were attentive, the food was tasty and the prices were great. As we were leaving another 85 year old got a happy birthday song so clearly Scarantino's hits the mark. Big catering orders were headed out the door all night -- another good sign!

Wanted to try something new in the area a d found this Italian gem. The decor is very authentic old school and I loved every inch of it The service was great. Everyone was super friendly and attentive especially our server Jestina (shoutout to Jestina, the real mvp.) We ordered two fountain drinks, two minestrone, antipasto, the Glendale special(pizza) and lasagna. Everything came out fast. The pizza was very good and light (8.5/10.) the minestrone was really good (8/10) the antipasto was not bad (6.7/10) and the lasagna was really good (9/10). All the portions were more than big enough. This was for two people and we still had half a pizza and antipasto to go so this much can easily feed 3-4 people. The total for all the food and drinks was $66. Not many places you can get old school authentic food to feed a whole family and not break the bank. It's definitely worth a try if you are in the area.

Food, service, ambiance-everything is A+. You know when you walk in and see those red and white checkered tablecloths that the food is about to be delicious. I recently moved to Glendale after living in Los Feliz all my life. I was sad I was moving away from my Palermo Restaurant until I tried this gem today. Interestingly enough I had passed by this spot all life but never thought to give it a try. I had their minestrone soup, antipasto salad, Glendale pizza, and Lasagna - everything was delicious (although the antipasto could be improved, it was still tasty with their homemade dressings). The portion sizes were great! Not too big, not too small, exactly As filling as it should be. And with two people, we even had leftovers to take home. The entire staff was great, and the ambiance was cozy and felt like someone's Italian grandma's house. And our waitress Jestena was super down-to-earth. I'm glad I finally decided to try the spot-I'll definitely be back.

Keeping the review brief and simple. My fiance, Pops and I came here for dinner, Pops has been here a few times with his friends but this was our first. We ordered the Chicken Voldastano, the Lasagna for Pops and Chicken Parmigiana for myself together with a bottle of burgundy. The entree comes WITH minestrone soup & salad - That soup!!! It was quite delish! We are off to a good start! Our server Jessica was very sweet and courteous, she took our orders then a gentleman came and laid a bread basket and some butter on the table while we're waiting for the main meal, it also gave me time to look around and get a good look at the place, it was simple, clean and has ample seating to accommodate a group or for an intimate couple's dinner. The sequence of serving was just perfect! Jessica served us our Salad & Soup and a few minutes later, came the main meal, it looked delicious and smells appetizing! I am happy to report that the food tasted as good as it looked - Yum! I am really glad Pops coaxed us to come here, we loved the food and the service, definitely a great incentive to come back the next time we get that Italian food craving. Delicious food, clean restaurant and great service, what more can you ask for? Enjoy!

I love a good, old-school red sauce joint. Sadly, Scarantino's is not that. It has the ambience down, with the wood paneling, wrought iron light fixtures, and red gingham tablecloths. Stylistically, it's trapped in the mid-1960s, and I dig that. Food-wise, it seems stuck in the freezer section of a 1980s grocery store, and I don't dig that. The lasagna tastes very much like some Lean Cuisine frozen entrée, even down to the insipid sauce with sparsely spaced chunks of mystery meat. I've only ever encountered that specific texture of ricotta filling in frozen lasagna dinners. (The waitress claimed a customer said he had eaten lasagna "all over the world," and theirs was "the best he'd ever had." That customer is either a liar or dysgeusic.) The meatballs had the tell-tale taste of breadcrumbs. The salad was nothing but iceberg lettuce and underripe tomatoes, while the soup was just potatoes, beans, and overcooked elbow macaroni. The bread was doughy, spongy, and gummy -- basically like sandwich bread -- served with rock hard, cold butter that was impossible to spread. All told, it was a mediocre dinner at best. While it has charming time warp atmosphere and good service, Scarantino's is severely lacking in the food department. With dinners starting around $20 each, prices are not enough of a bargain to overlook the culinary deficiencies, so this was just a one-time excursion for me, I'm afraid.

Food was salty and not what I ordered. Veal with mozorella instead of gorgonzola. The lot was a 'flattened' ball of minced meat. The tomato sauce, on the other hand, tasted very good.

The place is very clean and homie feel all the workers are very nice and friendly I have been go here since they open and I'm still going. The food is fantastic I have tried it all and yet to be disappointed.

We got there before opening and weren't the first! . Started by sharing a fried mozzarella, then their cup of soup and a small salad which comes with entrées (we always have the house dressing). Nice change to see it still included versus so many other restaurants. It's been a loooonggg time since were here but some of the people still recognized us :). Although we didn't see on the menu the chicken cacciatore Mr. Picky always loved best, yes, the kitchen would make it for him. Yay! I tried the lasagna with an Italian sausage and liked it. And to end the mail? Yes, what we always order after Italian food, two large Spumoni ice creams. It's really nice to be back!

As many others have shared, I have been coming for many years. I come at least 3 times a month with my best friend. It is such a great place for a delicious dinner, comfortable cozy seating and a wonderful setting. Their servers have become our friends. They make us feel special. Tonight we had Jamie, and we just absolutely love her. Great personality and exceptional service!! We love, love, love the food.. I usually have the delicious pastatino. Love it.. tonight I had the lasagna because I saw it on their Instagram story and it looked yummy.. well, it was even more delicious than it looked. They offer soup or salad with each dinner and of course fresh bread and butter. We also order the best garlic bread I have ever had. They are a staple in our community and I know exactly why.. For all of the reasons I just gave.. Do yourself a favor, save room for the freshest, most authentic spumoni ice cream you will ever have..

I Went in late night before they closed and they were kind enough to serve me before closing time and I'm very grateful for that amazing service. They answered all my questions and even helped me order when I struggled. Definitely recommend the specials and the ice cream. I really enjoyed the food it came salad and bread and great soup. I just wish I ate inside rather than take out because the ambiance in there was such a vibe but I will definitely be going back for a chicken parm. I forgot to take a pic of the rest of my order but it was truly delicious and felt homemade.

What a cute find!! Our server was so incredibly sweet, it was our first time in and she made us feel so special. The minestrone is so good and hearty (the lentils give it so much flavor!!) and we were pleased with the rest of our meal. She even brought us a little sample of spumoni at the end which was just such a classy move, the sweetest surprise, it made us so happy!! Will be back for sure

Tight quarters in here for what (we were told) was a night they were "slammed." It's how it goes...we arrived before 6:30 (no reservations unless your party if 5 or more) and they were already sold out of 4 of the specials. By decor, other clientele, and the taste, this is the standard old style Italian restaurant. The fact that afterwards we agreed the bread (a fresh loaf) and the chicken picatto were the best items say something about the pasta dishes: they're...fine. Meat sauce, red sauce...they're fine. Pasta was cooked well, but the sauce was bland. Thankfully not sweet, just bland. Didn't matter the dish, it was all bland. Those dishes arrive with minestrone soup (salty, I was told by the fellow diners) and salad (they did a caesar for your carrot-averse diner, and that was good). Wait was ok; it seemed like they weren't going to just seat people at empty tables if the wait staff wasn't available, and I appreciate that. In the end, nothing special.

Pasta and meat sauce was excellent. The bread was awesome and we were surprised to find a salad and a soup in our takeout bag The only problem is that we are staying in hotel next door without silverware. It's not easy eating this dinner with sporks

This is my favorite Italian Food restaurant. I have been coming here for the past 19years and the service still great and not to mention the food. Great flavor on every single dish that they serve.

Scarantinos Food is freaking amazing! They give you free bread, soup and salad before you order your meal. I recommend eating here during the week day; it does get a little busy during the weekend. The service is amazing; we got seated right away and our waiter was very attentive. The ambiance is amazing; very clean, the place is very decorated nicely. I highly recommend eating here; parking on the street and parking in the back.

Always a favorite place to dine. Service is always friendly and considerate. Food is always superb, no matter what you order. Excellent venue to have a special occasion, celebrate birthdays, gather with friends and family or just to treat yourself to a great meal. Regular diners since the 70s. I called to place a reservation in for a Sunday. The person that answered the phone was quite rude about the reservation. I initially wanted a reservation for 4 but they don't take reservations for 5 or less. I can get the fifth person and placed the reservation. The young person on the phone didn't confirm my phone number or time for the reservation (for their notes). As I was asking for the confirmation (mid-sentence) she hung up on me. I expect more from this establishment. I've been coming here for YEARS and to have a rude CSR/waitress is not good. Who else is she giving attitude to when making a reservation? Hopefully she understands that people can make adjustments to their reservations with what their policy is. To the person that took my reservation, shame on you. Be a better person and practice active listening. Trust me, it'll go a long way.

This has been my go-to for yummy, homemade Italian food for decades. Such cute, cozy vibes inside. They also have a wonderful to-go option, which is what I did tonight for New Year's Eve. All the entrees come with soup and salad, so it's also pretty affordable.

It was time to go back to celebrate a friends birthday dinner.When you walk in you feel that happy warm welcoming vibe My friend wanted an item that was no longer on the menu. We asked our awesome server Jestina who said "YES" we can get that! Special Secret Menu Item! It was the best birthday present that Scarantino's and myself could give! The service was outstanding Fettuccini Alfredo w/shrmp The Alfredo sauce was very tasty and the right amount! The food was delicious‼ Their French Bread w/ butter is still the best! Great flavor& texture. Minestrone Soup was very flavorful w/ a nice consistency! House salad w/House Dressing is so tasty& the perfect portion Definitely will be returning when I have an Italian craving& need a fix Traditional Italian food made w/love #supportlocalownedfamilyrestaurants

Ate here last night after a couple of absent months. Choices included Baked Eggplant and Linguini Pesto Alfredo. 1/2 carafe of their house Chianti was added. Food was good as usual and service was the usual 'over the top' friendly, attentive and professional. Thanm you Jessica for your service. Unfortunately they were out of Tiramisu so coffee and Cannoli were had for desert. This is our go to for Italian and will continue to be. Try it !

A disappointment, started off with the bread, not warmed up, what does it take to put the bread in the oven for a few minutes. We then all had a bowl of minestrone soup that. looked mote like pea soup but, it was hot and tasty, maybe the best part of the meal. We ordered the Caprese salad which was ok and the house salad which was also just ok. The main course, we had a chicken dish which was good, a pasta primer vera in garlic and oil which was tasteless couldn't taste any garlic, the Haibut which was dry, and the Sausage and Meatballs which were just ok. One out of four entrees were good. Overall not a lot of flavor in the meals. I feel generous giving it three stars.

Had some fantastic Oso Buco Saturday Night. 50 years later this is still one of our Families go to place.

Just a little back story as to why I love this place so much.. I was about 10 years old when I first ate here. My parents struggled financially so we lived in a local motel, where I became really good friends with another little girl named Stephany. One day, Stephany and her mom moved out & into another motel, which happened to be across the street from Scarantinos. I begged my parents to let me sleep over with her and one day they finally caved. As I was there, Stephany's mom said she was going to leave to get us some food, which puzzled me because just like my family, they were struggling too. Not even 10mins goes by and she comes walking through the door with a big aluminum tray and a couple of paper bags. It was lasagna!!! Not just any lasagna but the BEST lasagna I'd ever tasted. She explained that it was the restaurant across the street, Scarantinos. She continued to tell us that at the end of every night they'd give their untouched leftovers to those in need. They have no idea how much that meant to us. Eventually, my parents got back on their feet and we moved away. I got my first job at 15 & I told myself that one of the first things I wanted to spend my money on was a lasagna from Scarantinos. I did just that! I've been coming back ever since. Now at 33, I bring my own family here. We love it so much. Coming to Scarantinos feels like a home away from home. We aren't just greeted as customers but as family. Thank you for always being the best!

Went there last night for dinner. Hadn't been there for years. Overall a great experience. Service was great & every dish we ordered was very tasty. Starting with the bread, to their phenomenal soup & good salad dressing to their Pizza & shrimp scampi were on point. Generous servings.

I ordered baked mostaccioli with marinara, and when I was about halfway through eating it, realized they'd sent me meat sauce instead of marinara on it. That pissed me off as I'm a vegetarian. The GrubHub order confirmation shows I ordered right. The restaurant made the error. I also ordered a house salad, and the lettuce in it was so brown that I thought it already had dressing on it! It is going in the trash. To be fair, my son ordered angel hair pasta with tomato and basil, and he said it was all right. Overall, though, what a waste of money. Poor quality produce, and a major careless error in serving the wrong dish. Never again from this place.

I've passed by this place so many times but never tried it so we finally tried last night and omg this place did not disappoint. They give you free bread, which was soft and delicious. The entrees comes with soup and salad and the soup was so good. We got the lasagna, the fried mozzarella, and the angel hair pasta. We wanted to try dessert too but we were so full. Service was great, they cleaned up the tables fast and the food came out fast. We were constantly being checked up on, it was great. The whole ambience was great too, LOVE the decorations. The music playing was great, would def recommend this place to everyone!

I traveled in Italy for over five days seeking what they considered the best restaurants for lasagna none of them compared to Scarantino once you've had their lasagna you'll never be satisfied with anybody else's as it's always on point and great!

Better than ever. Jamie and Cuva made it a great Scarantino's dining experience. We were regulars here prior to pandemic and upon returning, within the first steps inside, we were happy to see so many familiar smiling faces. From the table bread to the soup, salad, pizza and entree, everything was as good as memory dictated. These guys are on top of their game. Parking is still available in the lot to the left of their building, be sure to read the signs, as things can change. Do something good for yourself and come for a nice relaxing dinner. It's really a warm friendly place with excellent service and food. They, like all restaurants now, are a bit short staffed, but we couldn't tell. These guys deserve the accolades and generous tips. Good place.

Got take out pizza via Yelp. Good quality, especially the sauce and cheese. Happily surprised that prices were the same as the restaurant.
