The Best Dive Bars In LA - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"If you’re a Green Bay Packers fan living in Los Angeles, you know exactly what Tattle Tale is - and you’re probably there right now. If you’re not a Packers fan, you still need to be drinking there. Open every day at 6am, this iconic Culver City bar has karaoke every night (with wireless mics for added performance value) and snacks that, depending on the mood, are completely free for everyone inside. As an added bonus, they’re right next door to Scarlet Lady Saloon, another excellent Culver dive bar." - brant cox

The Best Cruise Ships in the World: The Gold List 2024

"Although new to the cruise industry, Virgin Voyages has already begun to set itself apart from its predecessors. When first stepping on the Scarlet Lady, cruisers are met with a rousing, upbeat staff that serve as gurus around the ship and are experts on everything from beauty to juicing. While the Scarlet Lady takes you on a familiar route around the Caribbean, the on-shore excursions available are what make this sail memorable. Take a leap of faith on daring outings such as the Waterfalls of Damajagua in Puerto Plata, where guests make their way down seven of the 27 natural slides and waterfalls. After the exhilarating experience, travelers can sit down with locals and come together over Dominican staples such as pollo guisado, tostones, and mangú. You can always get local delicacies while docked, but while onboard, you must snag a reservation at the Test Kitchen. It’s an experimental dining experience where the menu always evolves. You go in only seeing a small card with ingredients listed for the night’s meal, but everything else is up to the imagination. One might find cucumbers puréed and frozen into ice cream as dessert, or beets formed and prepared like steak. While en route to the next port, the hard reset one does at the Redemption Spa leaves your body feeling anew; it’s impossible to come back from vacation feeling the same as when you departed. On any Virgin Voyages ship, you’ll love the indulgent atmosphere, whether you’re catering to your sweet tooth by narrowing down your favorite gelato of the day, grabbing a drink at one of the five bars that stake claim to having the largest tequila supply on the seven seas, or finally getting that tattoo you’ve been thinking about for ages after visiting the ship’s tattoo parlor, Squid Ink. Seven-day sailings from $2,100 per person. —Paris Wilson" - CNT Editors

Google
(3.5 stars, deservedly rounded up to 4) Quite a decent watering hole, has a very "local" feel to it. The bartenders are all fantastic... very welcoming and personable with heavy hands. Drinks are very reasonably priced which is indeed a gem for Culver City. Not gimmicky here at all... they've got pool tables, tons of TVs for sports, dart boards, a nice stage for Karaoke which is a lot of fun, typical Sports Bar fare. They do have events like a Burlesque show on the 3rd Tuesday of the month IIRC; never been there for one of those though so I can't speak on it. Downsides are that there's no "food program" but there are a few restaurants very close by (namely Tomy's next door if you're there in the afternoon which is cash-only but there is an ATM in the bar) a great Gyro place right around the corner and Jack in the Crack is right across the street. Also, keep in mind that this is almost exclusively an older crowd so if you're expecting a younger/mixed aged clientele like "The Backstage" you'll probably be let down. The establishment itself could perhaps use a light remodel/deep clean but it's definitely not to the point the health department needs to be called. Overall, a perfect local non-touristy spot with no-frills, no-gimmicks, kind interesting folks that make for great conversations and inexpensive drinks. I don't like drinking all that much so I'm not there very often but it's perfect for what it is meant for and to me that's what counts at the end of the day.

I love the stuff and the vibe.. I really Recommend . Plus plus beautiful people. We all have a unique story of life. But we all have one thing in common. And that is that we love to sing our heart out. Thanks Scarlett for a wonderful night. PEACE.

So much fun. Easy to like. Authentic. Great crowd of people. Our first time, but we'll be back.

The memories of this place are awesome. I just had to go one more time to visit with a friend. I just had a pomegranate juice. Didn't stay very long, because I quit drinking alcohol four years ago. Yay!

The last of the great heroes of this country died by gunshot in the Cincinnati Zoo in 1999. Those of us that are left to toil amongst the living dead seek shelter to remove the soil from our hats, shaking them free of dust at the saloons front door. A classic dive to wet your whistle, karaoke sign on the door, a lonely pinball machine, freaks and wizards from all across the land sharing tables and chairs, super Mario on his lunch break. This is the city of angels and demons, shotguns and suburbs, sublime on the jukebox and the spoils of war await the weary traveler hot and tired from the road. Come see the scarlet lady, let her treat you, wine and dine you. Walk in through her doors, it’s weirder outside I assure you. Smoke. Cook. Eat. #divebar #pinball #karaoke #booze

Google
This is the quintessential dive bar it’s very clean. The lady behind the bar was nice helpful went over and above and beyond to help but it was definitely a dive bar and I mean that in the best sense very small quirky kind of Cheers bar. Where everyone knows your name we went there to play pool and there was only two pool tables and you had to put your name on the board and a few people would just jump in the line. You could tell they go literally every night and play they have their own pool sticks and equipment and take it all a little too serous but they are harmless. Downside wasn’t able to play against the ppl I came with, they wouldn’t allow it the locals control the game. The drinks were good though

We (group of three gals) had a blast here! I went home with a handsome guy.

I love the pool tables. The drink are even better. The service is amazing and friendly. The absolute best, my new favorite bar with pool tables. I'm definitely returning.

Yelp
Wow.... This place was a movie. Is what my boyfriend and I kept telling each other to this day. HAHA! My friend is going through a divorce and on a Tuesday night. Sheesh! Of course I'm going to go out for my boy! We were east side, trying to find a place with karaoke STAGE (not a room, but a stage - my friend is a diva LOL.) and we found this place all the way in Culver! DID NOT DISAPPOINT. On a Tuesday night. It was packed! My friend got there first and had to wait to secure a table for my boyfriend and I. Drinks are at a crazy good price. I got a amaretto sour and my bf got a beer for $16. Bartender and I think owner is super kind. They do karaoke on Tuesday nights and it was popping. Everyone was singing their entire hearts out. Although I do want to give everyone a hug because man....... Is everyone going through the same thing here? Man. Hugs to everyone having a tough time. but man. The vibe here literally felt like a movie. Everyone hugging each other after each song. Everyone singing together. Such a great time. Funnily enough, the review before mine talked about a bar fight during someone singing Red Solo Cup. I saw that exact fight LOL!!! Glad the owner broke it up and kicked them out. And how I know that this bar is LOVED is that the regulars all volunteered to clean up. I can tell this place is a good place. As a woman. I wasn't harassed here and I felt very safe! I would definitely come here again!!!! Maybe I'll sing!!!

Yelp
First time coming here. I found it because I heard they had karaoke on Tuesdays. I also wanted a dive bar, I hadn't been to a dive bar in years. So I show up early to get my name on the karaoke rotation as soon as it starts only to find out they have a burlesque show first. I ask what's a burlesque show, I'm pretty sheltered I guess. I'm informed that it involves b double o bs and butts. I shrug. Cool, I'll stay. Did not disappoint. So then karaoke starts. The place is packed. The crowd is supportive and friendly and sings along. People are playing pool, easy to find conversation. Kick ass dive bar I'm thinking. But wait, it gets better. So about 11:30 a guy is singing Red Solo Cup, perfect dive bar drunken party song. The ground starts shaking and it feels like an earthquake. I notice people by the pool tables scattering and coming towards me. I'm thinking there's no way they're this scared of a little earthquake in a dive bar in Los Angeles. Haha, nope. It was a full on bar room brawl and it was coming straight at me! There were tables tipping over, chairs flying, glasses and bottles breaking, fists flying, pool sticks breaking, it was AWESOME! They ended in a pile of bodies at my feet with one dude trying to pummel this other dude but the crowd grabbed him and broke it up before serious injury could occur. Perfect timing. But wait, there's more! So they kicked out everyone involved and this one lady got mad she was getting kicked out and grabbed a pitcher to start round two but she got subdued really quickly. I'm the end, all fighters were thrown out and everyone else helped clean up and the party resumed. Gtg I'm up to sing next!

Yelp
Great to bring friends, lots of friendly regulars to meet, singing + casual atmosphere

Yelp
Been going to this dive bar for 13 years... very friendly. Staff is nice. Weekends get a lil too packed for me but it's always a great vibe. Great place to bring friends just to chill and drink
google avatar

Makena S.

Yelp
Scarlet Lady is a small (still rough) gem that hosts Karaoke nights as well as Burlesque! We randomly came on a Burlesque night and was blown away by the crowd for a weekday night and the energy in the room. My friend and I were mostly there to play pool though and it is definitely run by sharks. I wish the system was different so you could just play with your friend but unfortunately you have to wait 20 minutes to play a game against a regular where they will absolutely obliterate you! No fun. I would recommend this place still though but be sure to sharpen up your pool skills before you come haha.

Brandon C.

Yelp
Wondered into this place solo on a SATURDAY night. Immediately felt the classic bar mood to go along with appropriate measures such as: *Karaoke *Multi cultural crowd *Interactive games *Multiple seating styles *Cool guests & patrons *Well placed TV screens with fitting networks on display *Great nightly atmosphere for ones looking to shake off the daily swarm
google avatar

Rowena D.

Yelp
The female bartender is super nice , and there's plenty to do here ! Karaoke, watch basketball, play pinball, pool, oh and drink! There's even chances to play Lotto! Hell yes!

Ruben G.

Yelp
Best dive bar around. Great place to hang out. Have a couple of drinks and get some Tommy's from next door delivered right to you!

Yelp
A true dive bar with a lot of personality. Staff is very friendly as are the customers. They have karaoke, 2 pool tables, darts, sports TV, good parking & very reasonable drinks. The KJ, and bartenders are really fun. I call it a melting pot of humanity...people from all different walks of life that are very friendly with each other. It's a comfortable, fun, relaxed atmosphere.

Jen C.

Yelp
Love this place! Cheap drinks, karaoke almost every night and a great cuckoo mixed crowd of regulars.
google avatar

Benjamin L.

Yelp
What a great place! My buddy and I stumbled upon this joint after finding out the karaoke spot in the same plaza closed down. It was a pleasant surprise! Lei is a phenomenal KJ and the atmosphere is awesome! Great crowd and great vibes. NGL the drinks are a tad overpriced but you'll have a great time regardless! Highly recommended!

Kevin F.

Yelp
The bartender and the beer selection was great. I think the vibe was a cool rock and roll energy. But I'm not sure but there are some weird people who go there. I was constantly harassed but some drunk guy that I had to leave. I am not sure if I'll go back because of that experience.
google avatar

Eva K.

Yelp
I absolutely love this bar. The karaoke is super entertaining, the crowd is friendly, and the drinks are surprisingly affordable. I have visited three times and have enjoyed myself every time.
google avatar

B. B.

Yelp
Great strong drinks. If you are in the area and need to kill some time stop in this cute little dive bar with very friendly bartenders that know how to pour a stiff one.

Paradise E.

Yelp
Great place for entertainment. Every time I've been here there something to do they have karaoke, burlesque show or you can have a good game of billiards with the regulars. Also love their customer service with quick and friendly staff from bartenders to security
google avatar

Julianna B.

Yelp
Scarlet lady has been in a staple in our neighborhood for generations!!! Always always a great time. Great bartenders! Great karaoke & good vibes. Don't come dress to impress lol but come to make random friends. Oh and their drink prices and unbeatable. Don't forget to tip your bartenders!!!
google avatar

Peter C.

Yelp
If you love dive bars, this is the place. If you go more than once a month, the regulars will notice and will introduce themselves. If you're nice and show kindness to the bartender and regulars, you will become part of the family. Great times to be had here.
google avatar

Juanita M.

Yelp
I like this litle dive bar. I have to be in LA for a conference every year and have come found this place two years in a row because I like to karaoke. I've encountered good service and friendly regulars. Sound quality for karaoke leaves something to be desired, but I still really enjoy this spot. See you guys in 2024!
google avatar

Cliff H.

Yelp
Taylor might be the best bartender I've ever met. The morning shift might be the best time to hit the cozy.

Indrin J C.

Yelp
Awesome place - low key but great bar for Karaoke. Bar is excellent and bar tenders are very friendly. My friend and I went there on a Thursday evening for Karaoke. Had a great time there.

Robert T.

Yelp
Nice ambience to have a beer, relax, and shoot some pool. $0.75 a game. This place is easy to find, and parking is no problem.

Kathy W.

Yelp
Best Dive bar with Karaoke and strong drinks. The Bartenders are fantastic and always working to keep the drinks flowing. Don't forget to tip your bartender as really good service deserves a little pay back. Put your name on the Karaoke list and enjoy a evening with friends.
google avatar

Quoc H.

Yelp
Came around 1pm on a Saturday. Drinks are super cheap!! 3 draft IPAs and 2 sours for $35. They had FREE darts and FREE food (chicken wings, fries, onion rings, fried pickle). 2 pool tables for 75cents play and a bunch of sticks! Equipment in really good condition. They have karaoke at night and open mic. Parking is easy and staff is friendly. Crowd is on the older side and chill vibes but also could've been the time we came. Would def come back!!
google avatar

Chuck H.

Yelp
Love this place! This is the ultimate fun dive bar. Friendly staff, fun crowd, fun karaoke. I'd definitely recommend this place for drinks and fun.
google avatar

Bradley M.

Yelp
I have to say this is thee best place for gathering with friends and jamming out on Karaoke. The bartenders are absolutely wonderful and make some mean bloody Mary's!!!!! If you want a bar like Cheers where Everybody knows your name... this is most definitely the place to be!!!!!
google avatar

Suzin C.

Yelp
Great bar.... Friendly people and bartenders. Fantastic prices. I'm not into karaoke so we make sure to leave before it gets started. But a great local dive bar.
google avatar

Ashley F.

Yelp
Karaoke on a Friday night.. that's cool.. Stiff Drinks and friendly bartenders... nice divey locale... I know they have no control of their patrons, especially the regulars but geez they have a way making someone feel uncomfortable... Awkward stares as I entered as if I weren't welcome... **Don't mind me guys....** We're all here for the same reason.... Okay okay... so months later.... It's super divey, it's the locals.... once you show your face a few times All is well and everyone's nice.. you just have to get thru the first visits...

Ben K.

Yelp
Love the Scarlet Lady Saloon! Great bartenders! Pam, Liz, Red, Vicki....all of them!! Karaoke nights, and even a burlesque night on Tuesdays! 2 pool tables, draft beer & great parking.
google avatar

Candace B.

Yelp
This is a cool spot. Popped in here with a friend while we waited for Karaoke to start at the Tattle Tale which is just a few doors down in the same parking lot. The drinks were huge and strong and the bartender was so nice. We played hot spot also and it was also fun. You can actually play the lottery at this bar. Also a very fun and cool crowd. They also have pool tables here and a pinball machine. I would come back again.

Michael R.

Yelp
Great place. Cristiana is a great bartender and the drinks are perfect. Great experience, definitely would come back again.
google avatar

Skinny Coach u.

Yelp
Dive bar with fantastic Kareoke! Great Kareoke masters and the crowd always has great singers. TWO pool tables as well. The bartenders are all very friendly and pour very generously.
google avatar

Arron J.

Yelp
Lost my wallet and no body was helping I had to get into a fist fight to show who was boss ofc I won but I do not recommend this place it is the worst place ever when it comes to help
google avatar

Marisol R.

Yelp
I have seen this place since I was 10, we always drove past it. Finally, 24 years later I finally step foot in it on a Tuesday. A friend who had been here before wanted to come grab a quick beer. I went straight to the restroom and came out of there feeling claustrophobic! Two tiny stalls with sliding closet doors, such tight space you would hit elbows on both sides. The place definitely looks old and dingy, there were about 12 people (including 4 of us) playing pool and singing to karaoke. Place seems to be frequented by regulars and locals, definitely a much older crowd. We were there maybe for an hour or less, and I was pretty much over it. Not my scene or ambiance, don't think I will be coming back any time soon.

Gerry W.

Yelp
They have the best Karaoke four times a week and are the friendliest bar in the area. Cheap pool table prices and Ice cold beer make this a to go. You will not be sorry. Sarah is a good bartender.
google avatar

Edward L.

Yelp
Finally after almost a year the are back!!! They have a nice setup in the back alley, same great drinks, same great bartenders and a big tv screen. Please support this local business and a Culver City trademark lol
google avatar

Big L.

Yelp
Cheap, perfectly urban, don't dress up, TWO POOL TABLES!! Better than Backstage in Culver cuz it's less stiff. Park in back
google avatar

Barry W.

Yelp
*** JT Ross & Burlesque Show review on Wednesdays. *** JT Ross, the Harmonica Boss, used to do POW in Playa. Not anymore, so now he does Scarlet Lady on Wed nites. Scarlet Lady is a dive bar ... pool tables, dart boards, a few TVs, an older patronage, and most are neighborhood locals. Ambiance is meh, but the acoustics for the band are nice. ;) Noel (the bartender) pours 'em deep and keep 'em cheap so I'll be back next Wednesday for my JT Ross blues fix. It's cool. *** 3-star bar plus an extra star for Chicago blues in Culver. ***
google avatar

Ran C.

Yelp
Seeing as The Scarlet Lady is my home bar for my dart team, I figured I should update my review. Service has definitely improved and I hope it's not just because I'm a regular but that because my first experience was just an off night for the bartender. Drinks are stiff and affordable however, the craft beer selection is nonexistent. It's a dive bar, by looks and by feel. And, having been a thrower in the dart scene for years, it's my kind of place. I come by to practice and for organized matches as it's one of the closest to home. There are two boards in pretty bad condition - but not only do I bring my own in, I also bring in a white board for scoring. I don't much care for chalk as it affects my grip when holding and throwing darts. There are two pool tables and a both a golf and bowling, arcade video game. They're really popular and I notice that it brings people together, many times, strangers as it's cheap, easy fun. Lots of TVs for sports viewing - and Happy Hour prices are very reasonable. Parking can sometimes be tight unless you park in back which is sort of sketchy at night.
google avatar

ken k.

Yelp
Rudest chick ever and really shallow, think her name is Lizzie or Lesbe but very rude. Won't go back when she is there and just go to Tattle Tale. Other bartenders are really nice, how'd she get in? If she's there go else where.
google avatar

William C.

Yelp
Really nice people here. Came in at 6:30am on a Saturday to watch Bundesliga soccer. They gave us the biggest TV in the place and lots of coffee. Just came in again they remembered me an put the Champion's League match on for me. I know this looks like a Bud / Coors kind of place, but they do have a nice selection of beer and gave me a really great IPA. Food from Big Tomy's next door. They will deliver. I'll be back.
google avatar

Taylor J.

Yelp
I have officially dubbed this place as "old man bar" because, well, there are lots of old men here. A few years back, I even brought my grandfather here and he loved this place. I love the location since it is right next door to the tattle tale room. It is really interesting that the two bars have two completely different vibes and I think that adds to how awesome they both are. Lots of locals are here and drinks are pretty inexpensive. I'm a dive bar specialist and this place gets me seal of approval. Next time you want a no frills, simple bar, that isn't too crowded, this place is it.
google avatar

Genesis R.

Yelp
in California for a few days and my boyfriend is a die hard Saints fan searched on Yelp for New Orleans Saints bars to watch the game on Sunday and we came across this bar and decided to check it out. I'm so happy we did! We had so much fun and it was packed! if we're back in town on a sunday we will definitely be back!
google avatar

John R.

Yelp
Late night karaoke and some good fun. Week day or week end. Be warned it's dive bar-ish. And they pour like it. They aren't dainty.
google avatar

Tony W.

Yelp
This place might be the worst dive bar in LA. Wonder why people don't go to dive bars in the first place? Here's your answer. A drab from the start. Sad crowd. Sad karioke. Sad people. Terrible bar tending. Low end liquor. Hell, low end everything. "A very intolerant crowd." Just go to the Tattletale and leave this place to rot in its own filth. *I'm actually a fan of dive bars just not this place.
google avatar

Carlos A.

Yelp
Found this local spot after a long day of work, just needed a place to watch the Dodgers game while the Friday evening traffic died down. I called ahead to see if I could order in some pizza; guy on the phone said yes. Very friendly regulars. Bartender was on point, no nonsense. Only a few beers on tap but very good use of their taps: Sculpin IPA and some Kilt Lifter Brown Ale is what I had. My tab came to $11 and I know I had at least 4 pints. I think some regulars bought me rounds in return for sharing my pizza (from Mario's Pizza, which was also excellent). I'll be returning to The Lady if I'm ever stuck in Culver City/Marina DR again.
google avatar

Rollo T.

Yelp
Great "dive bar" that hasn't been overrun by Hipsters yet. A lot of older locals, good stuff. Plus: Good Jukebox, AMI, pool tables, real folks. Minus: Younger bartender chick that comes in the later shift, will promptly super load her crappy Pop tunes from her iPhone (buzzkill) and has the personality of a nickel. Earlier older bartender woman is awesome.
google avatar

Johnnisha Y.

Yelp
I love this place. I feel so at home here, the folks are so nice and the regulars are the sweetest. Drinks are reasonable, you can karaoke, or play pool. Parking is available, I always enJoy the many characters that come through, definitely an entertaining place visit.
google avatar

Joan S.

Yelp
Cheap drinks, two pool tables, clean ladies room, friendly crowd of all ages, live music every Wednesday. Close to the freeway, I am told (I don't do freeways). Easy parking in the free lots, one in back and one in front. Had no idea this place was so much fun or I woulda been in there sooner! The tables near the stage got shoved back so people could dance, as the evening wore on. If it's sports you like, there are TVs all over the place to watch the games. I dunno what the hell beer pong is, but they've got that, too. There's no need to wait until 11 or midnight to show up at Scarlet Lady on live music night. Most of the crowd arrived early, like 9 or 10, which works for me. I hate to get started real late. But speaking of late, I closed the place last night, ended up going to bed at 5am. Holy crap what a party. Life is good. *yawn*
