This place is AMAZING! The food is incredible! The service is amazing! The only downside: it is so incredibly loud… I don’t know if it’s the acoustics in this building or what but it sounds like everyone is yelling… it is difficult to have a conversation at a table. Apparently it’s a Wednesday thing because it’s half off bottles of wine (that’s what our server said). But I would definitely come back here! The food is so good! Where it’s late we’re going to sidecar, but there was no indoor seating and it was raining so we went next door since they served the same pizza and it was so worth it! Highly recommend!

As friends who hadn’t seen each other in a while, we stopped by Scarlet Oak to catch up over drinks and a few snacks. It was a gorgeous evening, perfect for sitting outside and enjoying the weather. Although we just missed the Happy Hour window, we still had a great time. The food and drinks hit the spot, and the company made it even better.

Just a few blocks from the Nats stadium, Scarlet Oak delivers! The Detroit style pizza is one of a kind, the appetizers are unbeatable, and the menu has something for all. Get the apps, try a cocktail and don't miss the pizza.

Great meal and drinks! Loved the outdoor space. The service was super fast, and our server noticed my friend wishing me a happy birthday and brought by a dessert menu and offered us one for free. 5/5 experience!

Google
Ate here with a large group and overall, enjoyed the experience, though I don’t have a desire to go back. Some of the food and drink options are overpriced, which could be expected of a restaurant around Navy Yard. Their menu is largely American, so there’s options for folks who may be pickier. According to our server, they do not split the checks for a group: patrons of a group can either split the bill evenly among many cards, pay with one card and pay each other back, or go to the bar to tell their server which items are theirs and split the gratuity and taxes. The last option makes checkout incredibly slow. I ordered chicken and waffles for $16: crispy chicken thighs on a whole waffle with pickles, drizzled in hot honey, and a side of butter and maple syrup. Not a bad deal. I also ordered a coldbrew coffee with a shot of Bailey’s Irish Cream. The coldbrew was $3.50, but the shot of Bailey’s was $10. They have Detroit Style pizza which looked good (someone else ordered it), but at the price tag ($18/10”x8” (4 slices) or $29/10”x14” (8 slices)), is not worth it. It’s not even that expensive in Detroit (Buddy’s Pizza as a top-tier reference).

Google
I just want to make people aware that is restaurant is serving food under 4 different restaurant names which i find to be extremely weird. Early bird sells breakfast burritos, which apparently you can only normally get to go but get in restaurant at “scarlet oak” on Saturday and Sunday. They also appear to be serving sushi which is under a different name and pizza under a different name “side door pizza”. Overall, it’s just a bit weird to serve 3 different foods under 4 restaurant names, almost like a ghost kitchen. I tried out early bird burrito from early bird take out and it was 3/5. The early bird latte wasn’t great. Overall, would not return.

Google
Scarlet Oak Restaurant & Bar definitely gets my approval. I received great service, my waiter knew exactly what each menu item was and gave his personal recommendations. The restaurant has a more intimate feel that gives off a cool vibe. Drinks where solid and food was delicious. I even had a little ice cream cake for dessert. Nice place to stop by if you’re near the yards SE.

Google
Outside dining in the middle of big buildings. Atmosphere, people and food all great. We had Mac and Cheese, which was very cheesy and creamy. I had the blacken chicken with fries. I wish it had a little more "blacken", but it was still amazing. The onion poppy bun was something that could easily accompany just about any meal. It was awesome., especially will a little crisp from the pan sear. They do have indoor, but we couldn't pass up the opportunity to sit outside. Big thank you to our server, Maria. If you found my review helpful, please give it a thumbs up.

Yelp
I came here for a happy hour and it was a pleasant surprise! I came here upon opening at 4pm. Happy hour was only available at the bar and some high top seats. We were quickly served some water. The ambiance is great. It became full as we stayed at the place longer and they had plenty of seats everywhere. My friend and I shared the Detroit style cheese pizza and risotto balls. The risotto balls we're okay - I definitely have had better. The Detroit style cheese pizza was absolutely wonderful though! We ended up getting a second order. They service it with ranch and a great spicy pickle relish. I would definitely go back again!

Yelp
The place has a nice vibe but the bench seats in the booths are peeling and that bothers me. We got two pizzas and a falafel wrap. The pizza is good, but is served on a grate, which if you want to cut it with a fork makes it difficult. Needs to be served in pan or a plate. The falafel wrap was not bad, just okay. We also had the aji Amarillo fries as an appetizer and they were nice hand cut fries served hot and fresh. We enjoyed those! Our service was good, a tad slow but it was a busy lunch hour.

Yelp
Best happy hour prices in Navy Yard for both drinks and appetizers. The staff is friendly and accommodating and the main menu is moderately priced with good portions.
google avatar

Yelp
Food was good, service was pretty good and the overall experience was in line for the price. Was a little disappointed they ran out of Diet Coke or so I was told and then saw an employee carrying Diet Coke a few minutes later.

Yelp
Great service! We sat outside and the waiter offered my dog a water dish right away and was very attentive throughout our dining experience. I ordered the cheeseburger with fries. It was good but I wish it only had 1 patty instead of 2. I would rate it a 7 out of 10.

Yelp
3.5 stars! Came for breakfast on a Saturday and was seated immediately. They were about half full so it seems like an easy place to walk into without a reservation and they have a big patio with outdoor seating that's covered and I believe heated as many were sitting outside and it was quite cold out. Our server was super friendly and gave good recommendations and advice about the menu. I had the chicken sausage breakfast sandwich which was really tasty as were the home fries it came with. To drink I had an early bird latte which was their horchata and espresso, delicious! Scarlet Oak is definitely more on the low frills end for a meal in a good way. The plates are a decent size, prices are decent, service is friendly and fast. Would absolutely come back and loved the cozy vibe and aestetic.

Yelp
Came here last night for a time left gathering to dine with 5 other strangers. The music was a little too loud for proper conversations and the reservation got messed up hence we originally couldn't get a table for 6. It still never fails to perplex me whenever they serve sushi / Asian food along with pizzas at a restaurant labelled as American on Google maps. The pizza is good and I have never had a Detroit style pizza before. Portions are huge - I got the small pizza but took home 2 slices as they are super filling.

Yelp
I won't be long winded. Scarlet Oak has been in my bookmarks for quite sometime, so on a random Sunday, I decided to scratch it off for brunch! Located in the Navy Yard district, Scarlet Oak somehow seems to be in an anonymous location, under a residential building. Inside is somewhat rustic but modern at the same time. It has ample seating and a nice sized bar. The food is excellent. We both ordered the crab cake benedict and for $18, they could not have been any better.. what a deal! The side of bacon was thick and crispy just like I like it and the deviled eggs were excellent. Our server was extremely friendly and attentive. I love it when employees enjoy their job...so refreshing! I highly recommend Scarlet Oak if you're looking for a super nice casual dining spot near Nat's Park. You will NOT regret it!

Yelp
Great experience with food and overall atmosphere at Scarlet Oak while on vacation with our five year old. Went early and sat on the covered patio, ample space for family and attentive service to boot. Children's burger was devoured and came with fresh fruit. the Ahi sandwich and Cobb salad were a light and refreshing treat that hit the spot. Pricing was excellent for the product and will return on our next trip to the District!

Yelp
The ruben sandwich meat wasn't red, more brown. The Cesar salad was not good tasting. Worse salad I have had. For appetizers we had garlic bread that didn't have garlic taste at all. Deviled eggs nothing special. After a 7 hour drive to hotel. It was close and had good reviews. But the food was tasteless. And overpriced for bland food. The restaurant was also noisy. Music so loud, we couldn't talk to each other or hear each other. Left hungry and disappointed. Depressed and sad. Also leather seating had rips in the seat. Made my back hurt. They can repair the seats with all the money I spent on the worst Salad in the world. Or worst in DC

Yelp
A friend booked us going here before a concert. I was skeptical due to a few pictures I saw with reviews but we were willing to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised at their Detroit pizza menu. Bonus it was half price pizza Monday. Additional bonus, I was debating two flavors & the server said I could get half & half between the two. This in combo with a tasty sweet & sour happy hour drink made me a fan. Hubby got a burger which he gave a thumbs up. Our friends also got pizzas & both enjoyed their selections. Our servers were nice & helpful. Next concert at Nats Park will definitely involve another visit here.

Yelp
This review is based on just one short visit but my first visit was good. The server was super friendly and attentive. My cocktail, I forgot the name, something like legend of the oak? Was super well blended and absolutely delightful. Citrusy but not too sweet. My friend said the crab cakes were really good.

Yelp
I love the atmosphere of this restaurant, especially the friendly staff that are there to greet you! I truly appreciated the Sunday special that we got while we were there which was shareable dishes for me and My Wife. It came out to roughly about $40 total after tax. It was great! We ate outside on the patio which was sealed up for the winter. I definitely recommend going there on a Sunday!
google avatar

Yelp
This had a nice indoor bar area and a cool outdoor patio setup. It is not that far from the main street in Navy Yard so you can go here and get away from all the busyness of a nationals game. The service was ok but I always appreciate the point of sales terminal brought to the table. Great place to grab a drink after work for their happy hour.
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent service and hot chicken sandwich. The staff were great even though there was a private event that was very busy.

Yelp
We've only visited Scarlet Oak as a large group (15-20). Their menu options and quality are the best! I will admit each visit leaps ahead in quality and love this about Scarlet. Their team works hard to provide amazing service and hot yummy food, even with being a large group.

Yelp
Avocado toast was amazing. Whatever seasoning they put in the avocado mix was so yummy.

Sarah P.

Yelp
Super good food! Pleasantly surprised by how good the brunch was. The prices are very good too for DC brunch.

Fahmi M.

Yelp
Portion sizes are good. The place and utensils were clean. The service and the atmosphere was amazing.

Yelp
We dined here on a random Sunday morning-ish and everything was top notch. We both ordered the crab cakes and they were plump with crab meat that tasted straight from the shell with no filler. The bacon was crispy and thick. The deviled eggs were tasty but a sprinkle of relish and paprika would have added a little pizzazz. The service was outstanding!! Our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor. The decor was rustic, classic, and comfortable at the same time. There is a spacious and extensive bar with ample TVs for your viewing pleasure if you decide not opt from the dining area. The location is inconspicuous but there should be no issue finding street and garage parking nearby.

Yelp
My husband had surgery in DC, and I needed to stay nearby. The first night, my daughter and I got to the apt that we'd booked in the area, quite late. Everything was closed and we were so hungry. We ended up walking to the Scarlet Oak. We got there 10min after the kitchen had closed- I was told we could get drinks in the bar by the hostess. I told her that we'd gotten to the area late and were so hungry and were hoping for food. I asked if there was any bar menu for food- like fries or wings. She said no, but a man walked by and said, "Let me see if my guy in the kitchen can make you something." The man was named, Elvis, and he took such amazing care of us. We both got drinks that were made perfectly. We were not rushed at all and enjoyed the hummus, the risotto balls, and wings. The risotto balls are phenomenal! Elvis, you were amazing, and now that my husband is nearly recovered, I know that I'll have to come back for dinner (before the kitchen close time!) with him. Thank you for making my daughter's and my evening such an amazing spot of joy during a stressful time.

Yelp
I've been coming to Scarlet Oak for years because we like the food and used to live across the street. We drove down tonight to enjoy the great weather on the patio with our kids. We've been there before with our kids. Tonight we were told that is "illegal" in DC for restaurants to give out highchairs. This makes no sense and I see nothing on the internet about this either. This is a pretty family friendly place, they even have a kids menu and crayons. It makes no sense why they would say this. We would have brought our own seating for our 1 year old if we knew. We tried to make it work but ended up having to take our dinner to-go since our 1 year old could not sit on a normal seat for long. We had been really looking forward to the evening and this was a weird experience. Disappointed and not sure if we will come back after this.

Yelp
Went there tonight after Nats game, food was exceptional. Deviled eggs were very good with the pickled jalapeño, whipped ricotta was fantastic as well. Pizza was top notch, half pepperoni/half meatball. Affogato for dessert, all while watching a few games. Elvis was a great bartender, will definitely return!

Yelp
My meal, a seasonal springtime pasta, was absolutely delicious -- one of my favorite meals these past few months. Other members of my party got the fried chicken sandwich. The chicken was incredibly tough and couldn't even pulled apart, let alone chewed. They did take them off of the bill, which was good. However, they insisted that that was how the chicken was supposed to be. Odd since multiple members of my party were unable to eat it. Overall, decent service and the food is a prime example of hit or miss.

Yelp
I went to Scarlet Oak with a few cousins visiting DC. The patio is normally filled, but this particular Tuesday, a storm was coming and it was empty. So we were more than happy to score this prime seating. Anywho, GET THE FISH TACOS & BRUSSEL SPROUTS. I've tried a few things on the menu before but the tacos, you get THREE overfill tasty tacos for $12! The Brussel sprouts are deep fried... need I say more! Yum! Both are enough to share. My cousins ordered pizza and the Buffalo Chicken sliders. Again, 3 nice size sliders! And apparently they were quite delicious. We each had one slider and one taco left that I brought home to my husband who also agreed with those dishes being great. The sangria is really good- light & refreshing. I also ordered a spicy margarita but hated it! Even paid a $2 up charge for anejo lol, what a bummer! They have happy specials on House wines & beer that I believe is around $6/$7 bucks. Pretty inexpensive to split a few apps & order house wines with friends on a chill weekday.

Yelp
Went for lunch and the chicken and waffles were good. Chicken was juicy and the waffle was perfect.

Dabs N.

Yelp
The service was great, the food was unexpectedly more abundant, which was great because I have really big burly boys to feed and it filled them up, but they also felt satisfied and satiated. I enjoyed sitting on the patio, it really made it feel homey and relaxing. We enjoyed our experience and will be coming back!
google avatar

Dee D.

Yelp
I rate this establishment about a 3.5. We had a nice table for brunch. We had cauliflower for starters -- it was fresh and fried and lacked luster and flavor. The burger was okay and had nice toppings like fresh red onion, cheese, and bacon. The French fries were yummy and "fresh cut real fries." The chicken and waffles was good -- the chicken could have been a little more tender/less overcooked and the waffle was very tasty. Avocado toast just ok and not totally consumed and the chicken Benedict. The bottomless mimosas were tasty. Apple pie and ice cream went down easy. The service was par for the times -- but all were pleasant and friendly.

Yelp
It's a great location for brunch.i went to Sunday brunch during the reopening of DC. It's located in the heart of Navy Yard and there is plenty of parking on the street. Since, it's COVId-19, we were only able to eat outside, face coverings, and reservations are required. The staff was pretty friendly. The menu is contactless. The brunch options were limited so I wasn't blown away. I had crab cake Benedict with eggs, and home fries. It's a place to go to be seen but definitely not in a rush to go back.

Tiara T.

Yelp
This place has an amazing espresso martini! The food however, was just decent but the service was good. The main downside about this restaurant is the mosquitoes! Not only are they bad at the outdoor seating area but they also make their way indoors. This is such a problem that the restaurant has Off spray sitting at the outdoor tables as well as at the host stand. It's hard to focus on anything else while they're flying around. I will return for just the martinis but hope they can take care of the mosquito situation before then!

Yelp
Scarlet Oak is offering indoor, patio dining and takeaway. This is such a great neighborhood restaurant I'm so glad to see it has remained open. I've been here before, pre-COVID, for dinner and brunch and the bar scene/ happy hour deals were great when those were still possible. A great deal that is still happening is their bottomless mimosa / Bloody brunch - definitely recommend! On my most recent visit my Dad and I had brunch on their patio on a beautiful 65 degree Sunday. Beautiful! I can say that the food and service is still as great as it was pre-COVID. The crab cake Benedict came with two lump cakes on top of a biscuit topped with an egg. Sauces came on the side. Tator tots usually come on the side but you can substitute to another side if you want. Overall great way to spend a beautiful Sunday morning while the warm weather is still around!

Kyle P.

Yelp
The food is high quality, my favorite place in Navy Yard. The chicken parm detroit style pizza is fantastic and you can't go wrong with the sandwiches either.
google avatar

Yelp
I stopped in early on a Friday night for a drink at the bar. I had an Old Fashioned, which was awesome. I watched the bartenders mix up several other craft cocktails, and they all seemed awesome. The staff was Friendly. I spent my time at the bar because the restaurant was packed. That should tell you something!

Yelp
Feels classy from the moment you walk in. Very close to Nationals Stadium and metro. Modern decor, well lit, not noisy. We went for brunch...not overly crowded if you go early. They take reservations. Outdoor seating is available. It's street side but has a decent about of distance. The street is not busy and mostly pedestrian traffic. Very close to navy yard metro stop. Decent variety of food available. Plenty of options for vegetarians. Most importantly for my wife, they have biscuits. She loves biscuits and you can get them on the side. They have unique cocktail options including a bottomless mimosa option for $16.50 per person. They have M-F Happy hour specials. I will be sure to comeback and check that out. I'm a coffee snob and the coffee is decent. The staff is very friendly. We were waiting for our 3rd party. (I was catching up with a childhood friend. So we chatted a lot and stuck around longer than the avg patron.). The staff was very patient with us as it was not busy and no one waiting to be seated. I recommend this place to all types of diners. Casual, special occasion, pre MLB, or MLS game, or just for happy hour. It fits all occasions. I saw a congressman having brunch with what it seemed like his family and another table going to town on bottomless mimosas.

Yelp
Dined in for brunch. Food was ok, a little underwhelming. French onion soup had chunks of braised beef rib, but I wanted more soup than meat, so it took away from onion soup that I desired. I wished that the cheese was a little more browned. Fried chicken Benedict had huge pieces of chicken but needed more hollandaise to proportion so the chicken didn't seem dry. The French toast was ok. it said it came with a strawberry filling, but the filling came on the side.

Yelp
Watering hole for the upwardly mobile / corporate nightclub on any given evening. Don't leave without ordering the Brussel sprouts. Period.
google avatar

Emma M.

Yelp
The chips were amazing. They're sorta vinegary which was delicious. The turkey sandwich was a lot of bread (which I don't love) and mayo (which I do love). Overall it was good, I just took the middle pieces of bread out. But I guess I should have known since it's a club sandwich. I'd go back
google avatar

Tim K.

Yelp
What' a great little neighborhood restaurant with some really good food! And their espresso martini is one of the best around! Love this place definitely one of my go to spots at the Navy Yard!
google avatar

Yelp
Scarlet Oak is a place to come and get a very traditional American meal. From burgers to pizza to wings to pasta. There are no spectacular takes on the dishes just traditional food. I ordered the pepperoni pizza & with me being from Chicago I consider myself a pizza connoisseur. Their pizza is a thin crust pizza with a traditional marinara sauce. The only way to really spice up a pepperoni pizza is with the sauce & there's had no sweet or savory flavor to it. On top of that, the cheese overpowers the pizza l, which causes it to be greasy & falls off the crust. Let's just say I like my ingredients to be eaten at the same time & this pizza doesn't allow for that. The underwhelming dining experience isn't anything to write home about BUT I would like to shout out my server, Hunter, for his superior service. He was a new server but very friendly, accommodating, & knowledgeable about the menu items. That's the kind of service quality I value & it really makes up where the food lacks! .

Yelp
What a great brunch! A friend and I met here for brunch on a Sunday afternoon and had a great time. We made reservations but it wasn't overcrowded like we thought it would be. It's very close to the Nationals stadium and no events were going on so maybe that played into why it wasn't as busy as assumed. The ambiance was just right for a lazy Sunday. I was seated close to the bar so while I waited on my friend, I ordered us both the bottomless mimosas. The bartender that day did an awesome job. I've had bottomless mimosas where they are watered down. These definitely were not the case. Our mimosas paired well with our food. We both ordered the Crabcake Benedict. I really enjoyed it. My focus was mostly on those mimosas though. LOL!! My friend and I met right before 1 pm and we sat and drank until about 5 pm. Those were some serious mimosas. Scarlet Oak can have my business any day.

Yelp
Very disappointed in this spot. I read somewhere that the owner also owned Southern Hospitality. If true, complete opposite experiences because southern hospitality was EVERYTHING. For starters, you have to leave a credit card for a reservation and so at that point I assumed I was in for a treat. NOT. Staff was friendly, but they were slow and not attentive. Also, the food took forever and was def a 3.5. The classic Benedict was bland and the pancakes left much to be desired. The waffles and the tater tots were ok. My husband did enjoy his crab cake Benedict. If you stumble upon this place and have no other options, you may find something you like.

Pallavi A.

Yelp
I love bloody Mary's and these were really solid! I came in on my birthday just for a small bite. I had the Cobb salad which was very good and my partner had the Korean hot chicken wings, also excellent! I believe they have a bottomless brunch that I NEED to come back for!

Yelp
I was visiting my friend in DC and we got takeout from Scarlet Oak because it was just around the corner from his apartment. I ordered the chicken havarti sandwich and it was just meh. I chose a grilled chicken patty to be a little healthier and the seasoning was not good. It was a little sour and bitter and not that enjoyable to eat. The fries made it bareable to eat. I probably would not come here again, the food wasn't anything special and there's other places I would want to try in DC.

Philip F.

Yelp
This place is insane. Absolutely incredible. You want appetizers? They have them. You want the best Detroit style pizza you can get in DC? They have it. You want sandwiches? They have those too. And guess what? They even have sushi. You'd probably think that a restaurant that has such a wide range of food would probably lack in quality or taste...NOPE. Every single thing we got tasted like a Michelin star meal. We got the Greek salad and Pepperoni pizza and let me tell you it was no ordinary pizza and salad. That food brought a smile to my girlfriend's face. It activated parts of my palette that I didn't know existed. It was simply top notch. But it doesn't stop here....dessert. Envision this: a homemade reconstruction of an almond joy. Sounds crazy right? It was. This is something I'd expect from chef Gordon Ramsay and I found it in Navy Yard. But if almond joy isn't your thing then the coffee cake with vanilla gelato was just as good if not better. The whole thing was sick. Compliments to the chef cause damn this place rocks

Yelp
We had a great first experience a few days ago and came back. Unfortunately, shortly after our drinks came, we saw a mouse and decided to leave and told the sever why. A manager didn't come by and we were given a bill for the drinks.

Yelp
Three and half stars here! We might return but it won't top the list. Loved: The outdoor, covered seating! We are still in a pandemic and not all customers are willing to eat indoors. So we appreciated the seating. It's also in a good location, convenient to lots of other areas. Not great: Portion sizes were small and the service was suuuuper slow. Parking wasn't great but that's expected in this area.
