This is the new restaurant here in Allegan. They are currently only open for lunch, 11-3, and drinks/appetizers 3-9. We've heard they will be starting dinner service later this month.
My husband went last week for appetizers. He and a buddy had steak bits, french onion soup and brussel sprouts. They enjoyed everything.
So we headed there today for lunch. Our group had the cuban sandwich, blue cheese bacon burger, brussel sprouts appetizer and pork nacho appetizers.
First up, the cuban sandwich was very good. The pork was tender and juicy. The group consensus was we would get this again.
The brussel sprouts were good as well, but something we may get occasionally.
Hubby had the blue cheese bacon burger. It was not warm, as it sat waiting for the rest of our order. They initially forgot the blue cheese and brought that after. Normally the blue cheese is chunked blue cheese, but they brought him blue cheese dressing. That doesn't really work for burger. Burger was very juicy and bacon was great. We'd skip the blue cheese dressing for the burger in the future.
Now onto the pork nacho appetizer. Several folks had been there this week and all raved about the nachos, so it was my choice today. I ordered it with the sour cream and the jalapenos on the side. The waitress caught the cooks mistake before she brought them to the table loaded with sour cream and had them remake them. Once they arrived, I took my first bite and was surprised by the spiciness of the pork. It was too spicy to even eat. Once I was able to talk with the waitress, she indicated that the pico sauce also has jalapenos. But this spice was not from the jalapenos. The pork was very tender, just way too spicy for me. So if you like spicy, go for it, if not make another choice.
I know that the first weeks of a new restaurant are trying and kinks get worked out. I think they are doing the right thing by working out any kinks before the start doing dinner service. Now about the service. Our server was very nice, but was missing at times. We had another waitress track her down to get the blue cheese for our burger. We also saw food sitting for delivery for a bit of time, before it left for the table.
We were also surprised that the manager/cook weren't at all interested in why we sent the nachos back. When we have had this type of thing in the past, they have always come to the table to ask what was wrong or what they could do better.
We will go back and give them another try, as I heard the steak bits are delicious.
