Schlosskeller

"The lovingly decorated vaulted cellar is really cosy, while the terrace next to the castle pond is simply magical. The cuisine is regional and seasonal, from classic Wiener Schnitzel to roasted pike-perch fillet with creamed sauerkraut, potatoes with chives, and Riesling sauce." - Michelin Inspector

A magnificent castle, built in 1588, has been thoughtfully converted into a hotel. The castle's interior is elegantly decorated, and its fireplace is truly impressive. Guest rooms are available both within the castle and in charming accommodations just outside the walls. A relaxing spa and sauna are provided for guests' enjoyment. The surrounding area is delightful, offering nearby golf courses and scenic walking paths. The service is efficient and the staff are exceptionally courteous. Breakfast offers a wide and appealing selection, and the hotel restaurant is also superb. The hotel also features excellent conference facilities.

This review focuses only on the Schlosskeller Restaurant because we did not stay the hotel. Reviews that rant are either irritating or comically entertaining, and I intend this to be neither. So no jeremiads! But my principal thesis here is that the service was terrible and the food unmemorable except for the slowness with which it appearwd on our table. We were a group of six and made a reservation for 6pm on a Saturday evening. We were not offered a wine list after we seated until we asked. That's always a bad sign. My brother in law accordingly order an alcohol-free beer, and one could see the invisible calculus in the waiter's mind. He clearly recategorized us at that moment as "stingy spenders... ignore". (Admittedly alcohol free beer is a dubious choice, but one normally requires a wine list to order wine). We placed our entree orders around 6:15pm. Mine finally arrived at 7:57 pm. The pork medallions were tender and tasty, the pork belly overdone, and the klöpse pleasantly nondescript. In the meantime, a couple seated about twenty minutes after us had just finished their dessert as I tasted my first forkful of dry porkbelly. (It is mostly fat. How does a chef dryout porkbelly? Sigh). I really had wanted to like this place, but at least it provided us with a family anecdote in years to come. "Do you remember that place... "

Great service and a pretty place. One of the smaller castles in Germany. Fantastic restaurant (HILMAR)!

Our stay at this castle hotel was fantastic. We received a warm welcome from Mr. Keita, whose exceptional hospitality made us feel truly at home. Our air-conditioned room was impeccably prepared, and the bed was extremely comfortable. The swimming pool and sauna are also well-designed, providing a delightful experience for us. My daughter particularly enjoyed her time there. Dining at Hilmar Restaurant was a highlight of our stay. The exquisite cuisine, paired with the outstanding service from Vincent, made for an unforgettable dining experience. The combination of delicious food and exceptional service truly enhanced our visit.

Spectacular palace which has been nicely restored. Impressive facilities, beautiful pool with spa area (sauna, steambath, etc), large rooms (take into account that part of them are in the palace itself, and others in an adjoining modern building), and a super well kept garden and golf course. The only downside is the price of breakfast (38 euros is really hefty and more the price of breakfast at a Four Seasons or Mandarin Oriental). Finally, at check in the staff (an older lady) was rather unfriendly (not so the bell boy, who was very nice). Nonetheless, the hotel offers a really good experience.

Great looking place just a shame they were rigging up a festival gig for a few days so stage disco etc being set up in car park in front of building so really ruined that wow factor when you arrived! Also no tea/coffee facilities in room, very weird! Butt to food first class and staff very friendly

Disappointed. We were allocated a garret room better described as “cramped” than “comfort”—very expensive for what we got. Dining options are expensive and limited. Grounds are beautiful and the golf course conveniently close if you are a golfer. Unless you use the spa facilities or swimming pool, there is little else to do— no tennis, no play area for kids, no horse riding etc.

We had our wedding at Schlosshotel Münchhausen, and we could not rave enough about the services and the venue. As we are not based in Germany, all communication and planning with the hotel were done via phone calls and emails. The hotel has event managers who are very experienced and extremely helpful with hosting events of all sizes. The venue offers many options for you, so you can have your perfect wedding!

Yelp
This is one of those places that seems to offer much, but fails on the deliver. It is a very sympathetically updated, upscale hotel / spa formed from a historic Schloss (castle) that is situation in its own large grounds. But: - The room refurbishment has some odd omissions, the most extreme being the wardrobe having no fronts / doors ... which in major chains is usually a discriminator between the lower-market and upper-market brands (the latter normally having fronts / doors, the former not) - I had a litany of issues with technical infrastructure (a term I use to encompass HVAC, telecommunications, entertainment) which the staff were completely unable to resolve - Despite complaining, and seeing a Duty Manager, there was no attempt at "service recovery" (after a long list a failures the least they could do would be to comp. a drink!) So yet another one of these places whose opinion of themselves exceeds their abilities :-(
