Schnell's Brauhaus

Really easy to find street parking. Friendly greeting as soon as we walked in. There are tables for a sit down meal but we chose seats at the bar. Menu has a really good variety of German dishes. The beer selection was also really varied and offered several excellent German beers. If you’re brave enough, you can order a 2L boot for your beer selection. We ordered the pork schnitzel sandwich and a Reuben. Both were really delicious. Quite an interesting and tasty restaurant. We will be back again soon.

Worst restaurant EVER. Here's why : This is a Sports Bar disguised as a German restaurant with a half dozen tvs in a tiny space. The music was blasting, leaving the people to yell over the music. Food : The people at tables were not eating, only drinking beer. Most tables were empty during prime time. Same thing outside. Beef rouladen was tasteless and impossible to chew. Disgusting. Service : Mediocre at best. Not much attention to the customer. Beer : The Dopplebock bier was the only good thing out of this mess.

We split a bunch of appetizers and they were delicious and plentiful. The service was spot on. It's great to have quality German food in the area. Spaten on tap seals the deal!

Not sure if it's a German restaurant trying to be a bar or a bar trying to be a German restaurant. We were looking for a restaurant dining spot but had a very loud bar dining experience. Service was slow at best. Two of us liked our meals and two of us did not.

Great food! Had takeout only but plan to eat in next time. Tried various appetizers and had the chicken schnitzel entree. All great!

This place offers one of the best tasting meals I've had in a long time. Very friendly and fun atmosphere and awesome service. It's definitely a place for many returns in the future. Did I mention the lamb shack is amazing? 😉

Excellent Authentic German food and American food prepared fresh daily. Awesome apple strudel. Staff is friendly and prompt with service. Assortment of beers. Casual atmosphere. I would advise making a reservation if you have a party larger than 6.

GREAT GERMAN FOOD! Don't believe the low star numbers. The German pancakes, pretzel, and shitnzel was amazing. Great German beer also. Great spot.

If you haven't been in a while you should head back. The schnitzel is amazing and the appetizer choices are all solid! Friendly staff, great drinks including rotating specials make this my go to German food and drink destinatio!

Don't go there on a Saturday at 7pm so loud you won't be able to hear or enjoy any of your food ridiculously loud other than that the food was okay small portions

What a wonderful bar / restaurant! The service was great and European food was delicious! Our family enjoyed the Goulash, Schnitzel, Pork Roast and the Sauerbraten. The Sauerbraten was so tender you can easily enjoy with just a fork! To complete our meal we finished with German Chocolate cake and Apple Strudel as desserts. The Apple Strudel comes as a very generous sharable portion! We will be definitely coming back for more!

I visited Schnells once again didn't so much go there for the food it not authentic German food and the quality is hit or miss. I went for the music. Johnny Wagner played last night , he's a wonderful entertainer. He put on a good show. Service was the same as I expected as in previous visits, slow and inattentive. Bar tenders were drinking shots behind the bar. It's seems more of a private club that a public restaurant and bar. It's a shame this place could be so much better and more successful if they paid attention to service.

Disgusting!!!!! Everything has changed recipe wise. I tried to have them take it back after I was grossed out and the server had to call the owner who insisted I Do Not get my money back. An owner who hides behind his sever is a coward and knows their food is not good. Manager comes out and literally starts a fight with me in front of the whole restaurant and bashing me as a person! WT heck is wrong with that crazy woman and she kicked ME out like I was the problem. Absolutely horrified by this experience. At least I didn't pay! Poor excuse on management and food quality

Loved the size of beer options, went with the liter. I had the chicken schnitzel sandwich solid-nice and crispy. The side of homemade chips was great.

Restaurant is very clean and more to the bar side of things- German food is very American style- I've never had a bad meal from here- I've been here many times- it's worth checking out

My only review is that you need to make sure you're Google hours match when you're actually open people think you're closing earlier than you actually do and you could do more business!

Schnell's Bauhaus is great the old fashioned meatloaf is fantastic and the service is great and if your in Palestine Illinois this is the place to go and the the noise is low. and the staff are super nice.

Amazing food, attentive service.. we called at 6:30 on a Saturday night& they saved us a booth! My dad lives close by &loves German food so we were thrilled with the Rouladen & the Schnitzel. Absolutely try this German sports bar/ restaurant.

Second visit to Schnell's.....first visit went well enough to go back for another. Second visit will have me not going back. Went in on a Friday evening, the place was busy....with only one server,one bartender and one buster.. After forever we finally got the servers attention and placed a drink and appetizer order. Took forever to get the cocktail, of course it could be that it took so long because the server took a break to do a shot with other patrons. Finally got our cocktail, vodka tonic that tasted like Sprite and water. Got so frustrated watching the lack of action of the minimal staff that we put $$ on the table for the crappy cocktails and walked out. Perhaps they were simply short staffed, maybe a server didn't show for a shift.....or perhaps management failed at their job.....perhaps one or both of the Schnell brothers should have been in their establishment supporting their operations.....what ever the reason, I have no reason to return.

Food was very good, service was excellent, and the ambiance was just as expected for a German feel. We will definitely go there again.

I took my husband, dad and grandfather here for Father's Day along with my kids. They seemed very busy, perhaps under staffed, but Matt our server was great. It probably took 2 hours start to finish which was fine since weren't in a hurry. I had an elderflower martini which was really interesting and delicious and the pork Wiener schnitzel. It was a good portion size and very authentic. Attaching a picture of my 96-year old grandfather because it's the only picture I have with food.

Great food and drink, including 1/2 and full liter mugs, plus 2 liter boots of many import German (Spaten, Hackor Pshorr, Ayinger), as well as domestic craft brewers (3 Floyd's, Buffalo Creek, etc.). Sit at the bar or one the many highboys in the bar area...lovely. Great service and friendly barkeeps. Food is German, comforting and delicious.

Warning, zero masks worn by any staff or apologies given by management. Ignore the sign on the door, it is for show only. This place could kill you. But I really want to love it. That said, good German food. Good German beer. Great service. Thanks to our server Chris for holding it down for our large table of nine. Sausages, schnitzel, potato pancakes, authentic German sides, pretzels and strudel. Good night for all. Add mask wearing and bring sauerbraten back to the menu and I will be an even bigger fan. Five stars if masks were used.

Exceptional food for the price every thing so expensive nowadays. great to find this jewel. Sandwiches for 13 main course 17 Larger Stine of beer 13. It's not 5 star restaurant, and they are not trying to be. Feel like I'm back in Germany w their atmosphere. Fantastic service. Want inexpensive night out here you go

Sunday night....not busy.....but surely not what a German restaurant should be. Not too long before a waiter brought water and asked if I'd like a drink. Only wanted soda that night which He brought. Had already decided (via menu on line) that I wanted to try the Port Schnitzel. (tried sauerbraten at a previous visit and it was bad.) Took a while but the Schnitzel finally came.....with cold and over fried speatzel. So I'd give the food about a 3. But from then on service got worse. I waited for the waiter to ask if I wanted something else (Like desert maybe)...but no luck. Finally I asked if I could have a cup of coffee.....which I got and it was horrible! Now for the surroundings.....they've taken up a nice hunk of the place for SLOTS! Certainly doesn't belong in a "class restaurant". But the real kicker, was having to listed to Country & Western background music! YUK! I'm not a newcomer to German Restaurants and I know they are far and few between....but I lived in Chicago where there at least four or five you could trust. I know they're not popular, so you'd think that one of the few still left would really work at it!

My son and I had a great experience here, on a Wednesday night. I saw other reviews complain about the service, but the place was about half full for dinner when we went and the service couldn't have been better -- both super friendly and timely. And the food (veal schnitzel and beef goulash) was delicious!

What's not to love about this place! Schnell's Brauhaus is an authentic family owned German pub and restaurant in downtown Palatine. There is ample parking around the pub and seating both inside and outside. They feature a large selection of German beers on tap as well as wines. All food is made in house and they have German specialties like beef rouladen, schnitzel in beef, chicken or pork, sauerbraten and their in-house made sausages. The inside is typical German hand carved wooden bar, seating and motif. It looks like a lodge you would see in Düsseldorf, Germany. The food was very nicely prepared and was delicious! Everything from the potato pancakes, the sauerkraut, schnitzels and strudel. We tried the veal and chicken schnitzels and both had very generous portions with very flavorful sides. We really loved the red cabbage as it was sweet, a little sour and really complimented our meals perfectly. We really liked that they took a healthy approach by using oil instead of lard to prepare all of the items! The hot apple strudel desert was made with real hand peeled chunky apples and was absolutely delicious. If it wasn't so busy I probably would have asked if they could sell me a strudel to take home! Tyler our waiter was super friendly, very attentive and made sure we had a fun dining experience. As it's Oktoberfest season during the time we went and very busy, I noticed the small staff worked hard as a team like a machine to help each other with whatever was needed! The whole staff went above and beyond to make sure you had a good time. We sure will be returning to try more of the other items. Schnell's is German dining and drinking at its very best! Don't forget to order the apple strudel! This place doesn't disappoint!

Finally got to check out Schnell's Brauhaus this past evening for the first time ever! Was in the mood for German food after having some fantastic German food at Kegel's Inn up in West Allis, WI this past Friday night 4/12 before the Luke Combs concert at American Family Field! My friend that recommended Kegel's also recommended Schnell's since she herself is German and grew up having her German grandma's amazing cooking from The Fatherland! Anyway, I ordered $125 of take-out from Schnell's this past evening and left a tip of over 30%! In brief, all the food tasted great (fresh, flavorful, and in large portions)! My order was accurate and ready for pick up in 20 minutes! For appetizers, I ordered the Brat Bite Basket, Curry Wurst with Fries, Bavarian Pretzel, and Cheese Curds! For entrees, I ordered the Veal Schnitzel and Sausage Platter, with sides of German Potato Salad and Buttered Green Beans! For dessert, I ordered the Apple Strudel! Like I said, all the food was absolutely DELICIOUS! I think I might be dining in next time I come in though since I saw that the restaurant had outdoor seating in front plus the inside of the restaurant looked clean, cozy and welcoming (they had tvs behind the bar plus an arcade game section). In addition, there were entire families with kids having a great time both inside and outside of the restaurant! So, looks like I won't have to make the schlep all the way to Wisconsin nor ChIraq the next time I'm craving German food!

Real weird vibe. I went on a Friday night with a friend and there are moving animal heads of the wall, German beer house decor, they had club music going, and some guy was just reading a book at the bar. Seems like it could be a family establishment except for the fact that some of the music was pretty inappropriate for kids. Our waitress didn't quite get our order right and never really stopped by to check on us. Food was just ok, I'd say. Probably won't be back and wouldn't really recommend it.

Great place for a fun family dinner. Staff was super busy but we had called ahead and had a nice table reserved. Our meals we great - I had the sauerbraten and it was out of the world. Start off with the huge . It was fabulous.

Welcome to downtown, German-town Palatine! Walked into this restaurant, bar known for its German cuisine and ambiance knowing we were in for a great time with good food. Stacey and Becca behind the bar are just full of knowledge and recommendations to make one's experience perfect. What we absolutely loved was the explanation of the menu from beer to food. And OMG... the beer choices, off the tap, excellent, and the food made to perfection. We devoured our perfectly cooked pretzel with all its dippings and we left with lunch for tomorrow from our over the top portion sizes of chosen entrees. Absolutely, in love with this authentic German menu. Give it try if you are in for a night of escape from our border to another! OH... DO NOT FORGET TO ORDER THE HOMEMADE APPLE STRUDEL! My only suggestions would be to either wear lose clothing or bring a big appetite.

I really didn't expect the meal I got. Schnell's was way better than I planned. The service was great, good staff with decent recommendations, descriptions of food and portions. I had, brat bites as an appetizer, the pork shank, then bread pudding as dessert.

Great schnitzel. Hot and tasty. . Can't wait to go back. It's a small little place that can be easily missed in downtown palatine.

My yearly dining trip to Schnell's was again the highlight of the week. Excellent food all around and Dragons Milk Stout is the best.. the sausage plate is so big I always bring home food for tomorrow and my wife's Schnitzel was beautiful looking and tasted great too. Potato Pancakes a the perfect appetizer portion to get started with. Beautiful bar inside and service is top notch. A little price but well worth the extra cost. Can't wait till next time.

Delicious! Went with husband after seeing the light show at Botanic Gardens with the parents. Have been looking for a good German place for a while that's close to home. I got the chicken schnitzel and it was delicious! Generous portion, perfectly cooked. Came with spatzle, but can be ordered with other things. Husband got the veal schnitzel, seems he didn't like it as much as my chicken one. We also ordered the cheese curds which were oh so tasty! Came with ranch. Solid meal. The place was packed on a Friday night. Service was friendly. Menu has typical German fare and certainly other things likely worth trying. Seems pretty authentic! While service was friendly it could be a little faster though. Overall we enjoyed our meal and will return to try other things.

They completely ignore you unless you are a regular. Don't bother to go there. We went and sat at the bar in for ten minutes on a slow night, and they didn't notice us until we walked out the door.

We're here on a Wednesday night dinner time. Sat right down & had a liter of Bier in the blink of an eye. The soup was aromatic & flavorful. The schnitzel was great, golden & crunchy. Great food, good atmosphere and the waiter kept moving all night. He was great. The Strudel didn't last long on the table. I'll be back!

Well let's just start off with saying I was very sketchy on trying this place because I've never tried German food. But let me tell you, I was not let down!! I ordered the Salmon Risotto because I'm a big salmon eater. & OMG!!!! It was to die for!!!!! It's been months and I can NOT get over how good all of it was. The salmon. The Risotto. I keep telling my husband I need to go back as soon as possible. I don't care how far the drive is! A deff must try!!! Also we had just about every appetizer and it was all AMAZING. our waitress was really nice & accommodating. Definitely give this place a try. I'll be back soon. :)

So today I walked in to Schnell's to have dinner with my friend. We walked up to the bar and ordered a drink. We were carded because we are still young obviously. I'm 23 and my friend is 22 born in 1999. The bartender asked for my friends iD and said this doesn't match my ID and asked for a poof of another form of ID, I was so pissed, so I confronted the bartender, said this is ridiculous. The bartender refused to compromise. So I confronted again. Said this is the state of IL! The bartender continued to argue against me and my friend, just because his ID was slightly different apparently. Anyways, worst experience ever. Hope other people don't have this experience. @ Schnell's in palatine. Have a great weekend. Also wanted to mention great lighting and atmosphere.

Love this Bar! Great food, great beer! The service is phenomenal the bartenders actively engage with every guest, they create such a fun environment definitely recommend their app sampler the pretzels are so warm, buttery, delicious. Great place to bring a group when you do order a shot-ski or a hurricane shot you'll definitely create some core memories

First time we were there was Saturday night with friends. I can't say enough about how good the food was the waiter was so friendly and helpful with explaining the dishes. Great atmosphere as well. Only one recommendation come early because it does get crowded. We will definitely be coming back again.

The worst "German" restaurant around! Service was dreadful....they said they would clean a table for us and it would be 10 mins. It took 20 mins and then they seated someone else there! The food was bar food with a hint of German but was terrible. We had the sausage platter and the pork schnitzel. The sausages were tough and tasteless and the schnitzel was thickly breaded and as thin and tough as shoe leather. Steer clear of this place unless you're looking for a loud, dingy bar with terrible food!

The atmosphere is good but the food was very mediocre. My wife and I stopped here on a Saturday evening. The place was moderately busy and the beer and selections were good. However the food was another matter! I ordered the sausage platter and my wife had the sliced pork with mushroom gravy . The sausage platter generously had 4 types of Sausage on it. They were pretty good but overcooked the sides that accompany the platter left a lot to be desired. The sauerkraut tasted no better than what you would buy in a glass jar at a regular grocery store and it was served in a very small porcelain container. The very small portion of potato salad also served in a small container, was almost tasteless and the spatzel was chopped up in little pieces apparently fried and overcooked. My wife's sliced pork and mushroom gravy was also not very good. The pork was overcooked and the edges were very hard. Looked like it had been sitting around for a while. The mushroom gravy smothering the meat did not taste very good and it came out all congealed and greasy looking. It looked and tasted more like a very bad sausage gravy that you'd get at a cheap breakfast place. The spatel that it had was the same as I had and was not very good.Also from where we sat we could see into the kitchen and the 2 people working there did not seem to be very hygienic in the way they handled the food and there was an awful lot of microwaving being done. Overall pretty disappointed in this place and do not plan on coming back.

Very rude and entitled staff , taking sides based on your nationality and making it a show for their own ego, specifically a bartender named Kim , was very dismissive and rude . I never been treated in a restaurant as bad as in this place, for no reason...disappointing experience, never going back there again and not recommending it to anybody. If you want to have your night out ruined go there , I walked away in tears from there and felt very disrespected and treated inhuman. This women doesn't belong in the service industry or in the entertainment industry.

Our bartender Steven was phenomenal! That guy is the most hardworking I've seen and he deserves a raise! Ryan as well top of the notch service and will be back again!

Great local German restaurant in town. Staff was great and gave good recommendations. Food was amazing! The atmosphere was fun. I can't really find anything negative to say about the evening here. Well ok.. one thing. We ate so much we couldn't enjoy any of their amazing looking desserts. Highly recommend!

We decided to try a different place. This place was so good. We ordered the pretzel for appetizer it was so good. We all ordered the veal schnitzel and it was very good. The staff was very friendly. We will definitely be back again.
