Very delicious everything was good. Had the breakfast and all was on point. Good coffee and poached eggs on the chicken fried steaks with the biscuits and gravy was outstanding. The homemade sausage was great. Good service and nice atmosphere. There was a buffet but I did not try it

I had a great experience at Schobel’s! I tried their buffet lunch, and everything was fresh and flavorful. The environment was nice and welcoming, perfect for a relaxing meal. I do wish drinks were included with the buffet, but overall, it was a solid dining experience. Definitely worth a visit if you’re passing through!

Was on a business road trip from Austin to Houston for the dealership I worked at. Me and the coworker who were assigned to do the trip stopped here to eat and take a break. I ended up ordering a chicken sandwich and it was one of the best chicken sandwiches I’ve ever had. It tasted traditional but with much of flavor and juiciness you expect from fine dining even though this place gave off Cracker Barrel vibes. The service was amazing and the atmosphere was relaxing and it was pouring rain outside. If I ever come to Columbus TX or be in a trip that passes by, I am stopping here to eat. I cannot wait to have a chance to go back once I have an opportunity to do so.

Great food with huge portion sizes, nice buffet option, very friendly staff, and nice vibes! Would definitely recommend!

Very very clean and hospitable. One of our families favorite comfort food spots. Very kids friendly w lots of goodies they any kid would want to try at the front counter, even adults. Salad bar is so well stocked. You even have to slice your own cheese from a huge block. I had the fried catfish, and okra w buttermilk fries. So very tasty.

Schobels is a great restaurant with a good variety, always served hot and fresh. We stopped by Sunday early afternoon and let the east round traffic dissipate. Highly recommended.

Great country style food. The service was good. The ambience was great and the decor was fantastic for the holiday season. They have buffet and also full menu. The salad bar has lots of choices. The deserts especially the custard pies are yummy.

Schobel’s was great. We ran across it on our drive to San Antonio. We happened upon the end of the buffet (15 minutes until it was over). Even towards the end of the buffet, the foot was plentiful and fresh. They ran out of dark meat fried chicken and said just tell the waiter and she will accommodate, even after the buffet was over. The food offerings were home-style comfort food. It was delicious. If you’re ever in Columbus, TX, check it out.

The food and service are awesome. I would go back again if I end up traversing through I-10 between San Antonio and Houston.

At least 3-4 times a year we make the trip to Columbus to eat fried chicken at schoebels. I know people like their buffet but ordering the friend chicken off the menu and waiting for them to fry it up fresh for you is worth every minute of the wait. Did I mention they have the best chicken noodle soup too? Double check the soup selection on the day you go as they rotate depending on the day of the week. The restaurant is always clean and the wait staff is friendly. Definitely a winning combination!

Awesome delicious food! Down home cooking at its best. All you can eat. Our waitress was Mariah and she kept our tea and coffee full while we kept our plates filled at the buffet. A huge wagon wheel adorns the ceiling and adds to the country flair of the place. A giant tree in the parking lot affords ample shade for parking.

My wife's family has been going to Schobels for decades since it opened, and they're long time natives of the area. The staff is very friendly (especially accommodating for kiddos and groups), and you can always count on a home feel and good food. Appreciate all the sports memorabilia from throughout the Columbus, Texas, and pro sports teams. Easy to see why they love dropping in for a buffet or chicken fried steak plate! Will plan to keep the visiting tradition as long as they're open!

We went for breakfast and it was very good. We didn't experience the buffet. We liked the cozy atmosphere and our waitress was excellent.

Very good comfort food resides west of Houston in Columbus. The drive is worth it. My husband had the German plate with sausage and pan fried potatoes. I had the liver and onions that were prepared just like my mom used to make. Get your piece of pie to go if you don't have room. The coconut merengue was divine.

We stopped by for a late lunch about this time a year ago. The buffet looked very tempting but we just missed lunch so we were kinda bummed. We ordered burgers instead and they were so good, we made a promise we would stop by again the next time we are in the area to try the buffet. As luck would have it, we missed the buffet again last Sunday. So, we highly recommended burgers for the crew and southern fried chicken with German potatoes for me. What a disappointment! The burgers tasted funny, old, salty and cold. The fried chicken was piping hot but the breading was overcooked. The chicken was tender and moist though. If the breading was not almost burnt, it would have been nice to eat it. The german potatoes were ok. My meal came with a salad(from the buffet) and a dinner roll. The salad was pretty good. I should have just gotten a large salad instead of the chicken. The dinner roll was stale. Oh well. At least we gave them another try. Unfortunately, we won't be coming back.

Stop at this restaurant because of the reviews and they did not disappoint. The food is fantastic, customer service is great and the restaurant just feels homey and inviting. Definitely recommend this restaurant if you are in the area or passing by.

Great breakfast buffet with toast as BIG as your face. The service is great and the atmosphere is is very western.

Amazing home style food! With a super friendly staff that offered great service. I wasn't surprised to see that place was really popular with locals as it had a cozy ambiance with nice bathrooms . My only downside was that the menu did not communicate the fact the sausage from the German plate would be somewhat spicy due to it having black pepper in it but I'm not to bothered by that, I should have figured it would have been like that since it's home made. Otherwise it was a great place to stop by and have a bite.

The Usual will be my usual!! Boss bacon, terrific toast, and hurray hash-browns!! Loved all of it!!! Oh, and the coffee too!

Great food and service. The star is the lunch buffet. With good ole home style cooking you can't go wrong. Great family type atmosphere.

Old school buffet vibe reminded me of the places my aunts & uncles would take my sister and I as kids. Amazing fried chicken and everything so fresh. The cheese block was a lot of fun to carve slices off of. One of the best salad bar offerings I have ever experienced. The staff was attentive and friendly. My sweet tea glass was always full. Our server checked on us often.

It is your typical buffet food, better than the usual stuff though. Worth a stop. About 2 hrs or so outside of Houston. You can order off the menu too. Be aware the BLTs are made with Texas Toast. Staff is really nice. Little gifts to buy, jellies and such but not a whole lot to choose from, but quality stuff.

Traditional very southern style country casual food with a smile. Seriously the service is great. The buffet is really good and super fresh. They cook it all. Their hamburgers are enormous. They also have a small store selling country jams, pickles etc. Nothing fancy. But it is not supposed to be. It's a great place for family and priced right.

We Yelped for help on the way to Galveston! While driving down I-10 we needed lunch and a quick bathroom break. I was able to use the Yelp app to locate Schobel's and order online. Bathroom was clean. Our order was quick, communication was easy through text. The missing star is for the online ordering due to advising no tomato due to allergy and no cheese. They were noted but still put in the food. Over all good stop.

Delicious German and Southern food with quick and friendly service. Middle of the restaurant features a buffet and salad bar with a giant wedge of Colby as its centerpiece. Buffet looked OK, but we were happy with our decision to order off the menu instead. I got the wiener schnitzel, a magnificently large pork cutlet pounded thin and fried to a golden brown. Go all-out German and choose the German potatoes to go with the included red cabbage. My companion got the liver and onions - also a tremendous portion and full of livery flavor. Both meals included a trip to the salad bar, where I didn't pass up an opportunity to grab a hunk of the Colby. Apparently they have pie by the slice too, but we were too stuffed to think about it. Convenient to I-10 if you're traveling and want a break from the chain restaurants.

Boy, has this place gone down hill. Food was terrible, service even worse. And the place was filthy. Dont know where the wheel fell off on this place? I know it's kinda a destination spot. But I can understand why. The place needs a deep cleaning, staff need training or firing and for God's sake learn how to cook home cooking properly. I live here and we won't go back. Maybe the traveling folks will bit it sure needs some real help to get us to go back. I could elaborate but, nuff said..

Delicious classic country buffet you won't regret to try, we were passing by after our cruise from Galveston going back home to Kyle and we seen this restaurant from Yelp. We will definitely come back if ever we pass by again on this location. Great service! Love the buttermilk pie, it's a must try!

Food is always consistently good. You know you will get a great meal anytime you go. Our server, Michaela, was outstanding. We will return!

....water this time - tried this again, lunch time, ordered simple no frills chicken salad sandwiches, 2 waters provided, a nearby couple came in qt least 15 min after us, and we heard them ordering, - our waitress was nowhere to be seen, the couples food arrive a specially cooked burger. No sign of our food after at least 30 mins, and no waitress. We left and informed the door hostess.

We stopped again and got lunch this time around. No disappointment. There was brisket, barbecue chicken, macaroni and cheese, greenbeans, carrots, broccoli, yeast rolls, seafood chowder, and dessert. The barbecue chicken was delicious also with the brisket. The Mac and cheese was descent. The Green beans were bland even though cooked with onion and bacon bits. The carrots and corn I can't complain. The broccoli was good considering it was cooked with butter. They had some sort of chicken cassarol but it wasn't good. The seafood chowder was a little conflicting as you see potatoes and think of potato soup but there's actually pieces of shrimp and it tastes like seafood. I didn't mind it. Even though it was different. I had a dessert but I dont even know what it was. It had a pie crust and some sort of cream filling but it was actually really good. I wish it would have stated what it was. I was kind of shocked of the price this time around versus their breakfast price. Waiter was really nice and very attentive. I think we will stick with breakfast.

This was a really nice diner! The food was good. We had the chicken fried steak dinner. The batter was nice and flakey with white gravy and fresh green beans with tender bacon. It came with a salad bar, which all things on the bar were fresh! From bean salad, carrots, and raisins, potato salad, macaroni salad, boiled chopped eggs, too much to mention, several dressings. It's a nice setup for sure! The service was great! Very accommodating. The food to the table was perfect! The diner is nice and warming. Nice place to stop give it a try!

Breakfast was so good. Had "the usual". Crispy bacon, large eggs, homemade wheat toast and hash brown. Huge service. Great service.

Fabulous pit stop in Columbus! We come here every time we're returning home from Houston (or Florida). The buffet is amazing! But if you're not feeling that, you can't miss the schnitzels!!

My favorite is the catfish on the menu and the wonderful fresh salad bar. You can't ask for more choices on the salad bar. Always a wonderful atmosphere to slow down and enjoy your meal in the relaxing dining area. Very attentive wait staff and servers. Come enjoy a home cooked meal in this beautiful Columbus community.

Absolutely delicious comfort food! The German plate was outstanding, especially paired with the flavorful German potatoes. The portion of chicken tenders was generous, easily satisfying two people!

First time there, great waitress, good food. I was disappointed that my take home dessert was not what I ordered. It was fudge but not the one I wanted. Oh well, it was still good.

Traveling home from San Antonio, my hubby and I decided a really good burger sounded good and we almost went to Whataburger for convenience, but decided we'd try Schobels. They have this really great buffet, but I really wanted a burger. After watching all the trips to the buffet by those around us, I wondered if we'd regret our decision. NOPE!! This burger was so thick and juicy and seasoned just right. All the veggies were super fresh. The bun was soft and the added bacon was crispy. At the suggestion of the waitress I got the buttermilk coated fries. I mean, obviously there's no diet plan here so why not bread the fries!?? Yummo. Super crispy. After we started eating I noticed all this buffet people around us were eyeballing our burgers with some possible regret. If you're nearby and want a really good burger, skip the buffet line. It's worth it. Only downfall is how popular they are. I felt like a mouse in a maze finding my way out through the packed tables. Also grabbed a bag of sweet and spicy pecans by the register for a hostess gift. They were well received.

Back again a few months later. Had to wait a bit for my order to be taken which was just so I could tell them I wanted the buffet. Finally just got up and went through the buffet line. The salad was awesome except the lettuce which had some bad prices I had to dig through. I tried almost every item in the buffet except the corn, (no thanks Monsanto) and everything was very good. Every side and entrée tasked like home made comfort food! Prices have increased here as they have everywhere. Lunch buffet with water is now $ 14.95. I would recommend them and would eat here again.

Stopped at Schobel's on the way to San Ant. My nephew is a vegetarian so we worried about his options. Boy were we wrong. We ordered the fried green tomatoes to start. So good! He ordered the fried okra, buttermilk battered French fries, broccoli, mash potatoes and some kinda veggie mash. I ordered chicken fried steak, corn and mash potatoes. The service was excellent and the food came out super fast. OMG the buttermilk battered French fries alone are worth visiting Schobel's. The CFS was crispy and delicious. Key lime pie for dessert was yummy and a great way to end the meal. Loved the look and ambiance of the place! Also lots of bathrooms lol

Very clean. Friendly staff. Food was delicious. I had the buffet and it was full of nice fresh vegetables and crispy salad products. I had the lemon grilled chicken and it was very tender, not too lemony. I was disappointed that they did not refill the meatloaf pan because the person who got last piece looked good. My husband had the Reuben sandwich with fries. Everything was very good. We will definitely stop here again when in the area

Everything and I mean every at Schobel's is scrumptious. This review is purposefully brief as I'm endorsing this venue without the need for superfluous adoration. Take the time to get off I-10 in Columbus. Schobel's is a stone's throw from the exit. Give them a try. You'll be glad you did.

Stopped by for dinner on the way back from Austin right before dinner rush. Our server was super friendly and we got seated right away. I ordered the Andy's Etouffee which came with 2 sides and the soup. The etouffee looked a lot different than I'd expected it to be, but everything tasted really good. I also got the cherry cream meringue which was really good as well.

Great service and delicious food! The fried chicken was amazing! They have a buffet and everything was very fresh and hot.

We were traveling through Texas and stopped here for lunch. The server came and asked us what we wanted to drink and disappeared for 20 minutes. She came back and asked us for our order. We gave it to her and she disappeared again. 15 minutes later she brought part of our food and went away again. I reminded her about my cup of soup and our tea. we had nearly finished the food she brought, with nothing to drink. We got out tea after being in the restaurant for 40 minutes. The food was not good. my husband's burger was dry and the bun burned. my chicken soup had a bone in it. I also had fried green tomatoes that were cooked in dirty grease and tasted awful. We could not get our bill. we waited for a while and finally went to the counter. I would not recommend this restaurant.

We were in Columbus April 6-8 for the eclipse, traveling to Hill Country. We went to Schobel's hoping for a decent meal. It looks like a typical family style restaurant, a little dated, but clean. Salad bar caught our eye. My husband ordered the pan seared catfish with broccoli and the salad bar. I ordered the flounder with almonds with squash, yellow and zucchini and salad bar. My husband said catfish was not great. My flounder was much better but the squash was just plain weird. I expected sit to be steamed or sautéed, instead it was mushy, and mixed with, I honestly don't know what it was! Awful! Salad bar was standard fair. Server was a sweet older lady and the young lady that checked us out was nice. There were a group of sheriffs eating dinner and a group of people, photographers, I believe, from France. I can only imagine what they thought of the food. It wasn't the worst food but certainly would not go out of my way to eat there again.

I just wanted to agree that the burger was absolutely the best burger I have had in a long time. Our server name was Arvil K and she was very great.

Awesome place! We used to stop in here traveling when I was younger. My husband and I stopped in for breakfast and it did not disappoint. We must come back for some lunch sometime.

Great home cooked style food on the buffet. Huge cheese block at the salad bar. Desserts at the buffet but can request their amazing coconut cream pie.

The food is was great. As was our server, Taylor. However, the floor was very slippery and I nearly fell a few times. Apparently the slipperiness is caused by the humidity. There were no warning signs, and no non-slip rugs. I am recovering from spinal surgery and the last thing I need is a fall. There is a cute area in the front where you can purchase items such as preserves, candy, etc. I picked up ajar of Candied Jalapeños. I asked the cashier if they tasted good. She said she had never tasted any of those things because they weren't Schobel's. I almost felt guilty for buying based on her attitude. I did purchase the jalapeños, a jar of Apple butter, and a couple other preserves as well as some dark chocolate covered pecans. Again, the food was delicious.

Very good food! We stopped in Columbus to meet some family and had a good selection of the menu between the wraps and chicken fried steak, all of which was very good and high quality. There is a buffet of standard favorites and sides along with a generous salad bar included with your meal. All the ingredients were fresh and it showed! Quick service which is always good (especially if you walk in hungry!). All in all we were happy with our experience and will be back for sure.

Schobel's is a solid dependable local eatery. The salad + entree and soup bar is top quality. Service is friendly & prompt. If you're in town at Milan St & Business 71, Schobel's is the best quality restaurant!! Any improvement suggestions would be to keep the Sunday breakfast menu option open to at least 11:30am. Also to have a wider selection of pies by the slice.

Food was pretty good! Unfortunately, the service was less than desired. Our waitress and the lady at the check out acted as if we were a nuisance simply being there.

The food is probably more Texas than it is German. So I would not come here for authenticity... Especially since I was really hoping to catch some German beers on draft. Unfortunately they don't have any Beers on draft, German or otherwise. NNevertheless, the food we ordered turned out to be tasty and the portions were hearty. This is a good location just at the junction of Highway 71 and interstate 10. So I can understand why it is popular.

The buffet was wonderful today. The chicken fried steak was good ole home cooking . The squash casserole was wonderful as were the mashed potatoes and asparagus. The buttermilk pie was still warm. Wow !! That was a great meal.

Love these old fashioned diners! Good homemade food, friendly, prompt service. Great value.

Haven't been here in about a decade but the food quality it still terrific. The full buffet is only Friday and Saturday now. But salad bar is daily. We enjoyed a variety of items that were made to order as needed. Service was excellent. Iced tea homemade and perfect.
