The Best Portland Restaurants on Northeast Broadway | Eater Portland

"2022 arrival Scholar proves that there’s no such thing as too much good Italian food in town. Apart from a justly celebrated Buffalo chicken livers appetizer, the menu largely sticks to pretty familiar Italian American favorites like beef Bolognese, eggplant parmesan, seasonal salads, and a range of pizzas. In a fun libation concept, the bar’s original cocktails can be upgraded with a scoot of the defining booze ingredient on the side." - Nathan Williams

Order the Buffalo Chicken Livers at Portland Restaurant Scholar - Eater Portland

"It has been 19 days, 19 hours, and 10 minutes since I first tried the Buffalo chicken livers at Scholar, the new(ish) Italian(ish) restaurant on Northeast Broadway. Chicken livers are heavily dredged and fried before landing in a tangy Buffalo sauce; a play on the typical wing, those livers arrive topped with thinly sliced pieces of pickled celery, as well as crumbles of semi-creamy-but-still-ripe blue cheese. Biting into one — this is not a wing situation; use a fork — you’re hit with the satisfying crunch of something fried and the overwhelming pow of acid, with just a tiny wisp of the iron-y, sweet flavor of the liver, silky from the fry at the center." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

The food was fantastic, perfect portions and wonderful flavor. The pumpkin pesto pasta was a table favorite. The pizza crust was delicious, thin, soft and chewy! The drinks were great too and you MUST order a focaccia bread for each person, trust me… you don’t want to share. We will be back for sure!

It's a pretty cool and intimate spot to enjoy some great food and cocktails. I really enjoyed the decor and atmosphere of this place. My friends and I had a great time catching up to go with our wonderful meal. The shishito peppers, Buffalo chicken livers, and marinated olives were great starters. The white pie with mushrooms and classic pizzas were delicious. The flavors were great, and so was the crust. The beef bolognese had great texture and flavor to it. To end the meal, we had a sweet corn creme brulee, which was quickly devoured. My friend was lucky to be able to get a cup of cappuccino from the manager. This was very unexpected and a service that went above and beyond. I'll definitely come here again.

A great place for small bites (pasta portion was kinda small, so you should order extra food if you're coming to EAT) and a relaxing atmosphere. The pizza is fantastic. The mozzarella sun-dried tomato salad was refreshing and delicious. Excellent flourless chocolate cake and coffee to finish. Rich, decadent.

They always have about three or four really exceptional non-alcoholic cocktails on the menu in addition to a full bar. The salads and pizzas are awesome, but the real standout (for me at least) was the focaccia. You’ll want to order two servings of that right off the bat. The food, drinks, and friendly staff help make this one of my favorite spots in Portland.

Food and service were great, drinks were overpriced, and the place lacked a bit of warmth in terms of atmosphere. I'm not sure I have to go back but I'd order their pizzas. The fresh mozzarella was really tasty and the white pizza was different and yummy. Their red pepper flakes were old and had zero spice.

Beautiful spot for delicious dinner. The drinks are fabulous, they even have a great selection of non alcoholic too. Enjoyable vibe, comfortable. The first bathroom decor is my favorite. Tip: Make reservations

Delicious! Unique ingredient pairings that worked so well together. Great new York style pizza. A good date spot.

This is hands down the best cocktail bar in Portland. They definitely live up to the name Scholar: every single bartender I’ve ever had there is incredibly knowledgeable. They’re super nice about answering questions and sharing their craft, I always learn something new when I talk to them and they make me feel so welcome! I’m always shocked it isn’t more crowded given how great this place is, but I do love how chill and relaxing the atmosphere is. The food is really good, too! I especially recommend the pizza, it’s fantastic.
