"Anyone taking diligent notes on Portland decor is sure to notice similarities in design from location to location beyond a love for taxidermy. Much of that Rose City decorating style emanates from Schoolhouse Electric. Located in a 115-year-old redbrick warehouse and factory building in an industrial part of the city’s West Side, Schoolhouse Electric sells everything from perfect reproductions of 1960s-era IBM clocks to more vintage sconces and analogue clocks than you can shake a stick at. The store’s Ristretto Roasters coffee bar provides a caffeine boost when your energy for curated doorknobs reaches its limit."

Never visited the showroom, but the quality of this brand is very inconsistent when purchasing online. Rarely am I able to get an order that has all the right items, isn’t damaged and is working as intended. At this point, shopping with them is the same as gambling, you’re almost bound to lose more than you win.

Google
I am so conflicted in writing this review. They have beautiful items and the quality is great. That being said, I’ve never dealt with customer service like this before. I placed an enormous order three weeks ago for a bunch of in stock items. Nothing has shipped yet and when I reach out to inquire, I keep getting replies thanking me for my patience and not providing any information. First, they told me that in stock means that items will ship within 10 days. So 10 days go by, and nothing has shipped…so I reached out again. I tried calling and leaving a voicemail and have gotten no reply. I am a licensed interior designer and I work with dozens of companies and I’ve never dealt with anything like this. Other people have speculated that they outsourced their customer service and that must be the case. Super unfortunate because I wanna be a client and continue shopping there, but there is no accountability or customer service.

We live in Portland, OR. We went to order the Miller Cart, $399. Shipping is $335? What? We live 4 miles away from the warehouse. The last item we got was water damaged and we returned it and never saw the refund. Can’t call and no one really returns an email. At least not for weeks. Used to be an amazing source for home goods. Perhaps not so much anymore. Update. Got a response on the shipping cost. They said it was accurate. So that is wild.I can ship a car from Seattle to Portland for less than $335.

Google
Great store with design constantly updating. Been using their products for years for both clients and personally with very minor issues (duvet stitching came apart quickly but an easy repair). I was actually just there to place an order for a discontinued lamp shade to match one already purchased and the process was simple. It actually arrived a few days later (Seattle). ⚡️⚡️⚡️

Google
No Phone number?! Was so excited to order several items from Schoolhouse but the lack of response and only a bot to communicate with was my first warning. I was then motivated to check the reviews - consistently horrible - looks like the company sold and is heading downhill. Perhaps it's a different story if you live in the area and can go to the showroom in person. Glad I did my homework, will go somewhere where customer service is the priority and a real live human will actually answer the phone.

Google
I ordered a rug in person 4 weeks ago and was told it would arrive in 5-10 days. I waited 15 days and started to reach out for an update. After about 5 emails with an AI bot I started to ask how to get in contact with the showroom. No phone number. I got the email address and started emailing. No response. I finally had to walk in there on a Saturday morning with my 6 year old to be told my rug may arrive in 3-4 months. I was treated like I was an annoyance to their staff because I was inquiring about my order and providing feedback on a frustrating customer service experience. I love schoolhouse but would likely not order anything more significant than a rug after this experience. I hope I like my rug when it arrives 4-5 months after I was told it would arrive in 5 days!

Google
I love their stuff, but very disappointed in customer service. Received 2 pendants that were both dinged upon opening from package, after a 2 month delivery wait. We had already gotten rid of our old fixtures so had to put them up… their team wouldn’t give any sort of discount even after immediate proof of compromised fixtures. Unfortunate that paying high quality prices doesn’t equate with high quality customer service

Alma Fargason

Google
I was their biggest champion for a decade and am so sad to see the reviews are now true: it’s never felt more like they were acquired. They’re basically operating on scam-like levels of pricing and customer service. My in laws bought me and my husband a clock from them 2.5 years ago (when it was $399 … they’ve jacked the price for the same item to $599) and when it stopped working they gave me $59.80 back (20% of the original price). By this logic I should buy clocks from them every 2.5 years for ever increasing amounts … what a shame for a brand that used to be my number one.

Yelp
I noticed the bad reviews, but personally, I didn't have any issues. This might be because I visited the store in person here in Portland to pick up the items. They had a showroom opening for a weekend, and I decided to check it out. I had a great time! There was a long line outside with many people waiting to enter. Inside, there was an amazing coffee shop, along with various items and a showroom. I ended up buying a duvet cover at a really great price. While I do think some items were overpriced, that's just my opinion. Overall, I think I'd visit again in person.

Yelp
I bought a blanket that went on sale less than two weeks later; when I asked for a price match someone named Mary responded that they couldn't honor the lower price because "promotions couldn't be combined" (which was irrelevant since I had paid full price) and "not all products were eligible for discounts" (also false as the item was on sale on their website). Impossible to contact this company by phone. I experienced poor customer service, beware!

Shelley L.

Yelp
This company is now run by robots. Customer service is poor. Cannot get in touch with real person. Order placed early November. Never fulfilled. Checked on it continuously and answered by robot e-mails. Not notified it wasn't coming until January.

Yelp
They don't take phone calls, and I'm not waiting 3 days for a response. I am using this choice they made to judge their customer service and I am not thrilled with their interpretation. So off I go to give money to businesses that meet my old fashioned interpretation of customer service.

Yelp
DO NOT BE DECEIVED This company has great marketing, cool collabs, and beautiful home goods, but you'll never receive the items you ordered and customer service (if you can even get a response) will continue to tell you that they are checking with fulfillment while weeks go by and you still don't have the items you ordered, let alone a real update. In the end you'll just have to dispute the charges with your credit card company. It's a huge bummer and not worth the headache and time wasted.

Yelp
BEWARE!!! Schoolhouse has been bought by Food 52. Since the purchase they have shut down their beautiful showroom in Portland and things are clearly NOT RUNNING SMOOTHLY!!!. We purchased 7 items totalling $2,000 on September 3, 2024. 1-Møbler J27 stool (in stock) NON-RETURNABLE! Made in Denmark $199 2-Nora Oak Nightstand (not in stock) NON-RETURNABLE (mdf with oak veneer, oak) made in Vietnam $499 3-Two Sidnie lamps with glass shades made with "global components" (not in stock)assembeld in Portland $499 each 4-Gino Flip Clock (in stock) made in China $99 5-Cylinder Stone Side Table (in stick)made in India $499 6-Velvet Plus Wool Circle Pillow Case (in stock)made in India $59 NOTE- six of these items were made in China, India and Vietnam. We purchased these items during a 20% off sale. By October 5 we had heard nothing. We would have expected to at least have recieved the small pillow case and the small flip clock that were in stock. Tried to contact Schoolhouse but they can only be reached by what seems like an AI bot. The bot said it would check on the order and get back to us. It didn't. Then we used a live chat (that is available only during business hours) and were told that their WAREHOUSE AND FULLFILLMENT WERE HAVING PROBLEMS. They said they would check on our order , they checked on it but couldnt give us any information except that our Sidnie lamps might ship to us by December 15. 3 MONTHS!!! And we still don't know where our small in-stock items are. Crazy. This is reminiscent of Covid days. Side Note- shipping was $200 and we can't believe we paid this much for an mdf/oak veneer side table and items made in Asia. Schoolhouse is no Room and Board. More than 90%of R&B's furniture and decor is made by US artisans, they are 100% employee owned and have live customer service by phone:) I'm considering getting my money back from Schoolhouse taking a red-eye to Golden Valley MN where Room and Board has a fantastic, huge outlet open on weekends and they ship any amount of furniture or decor for a flat fee of $150. We just had two living room chairs and a table and various decor shipped seamlessly this way in August when visiting Mpls. Took only 6 wks. Great deals! By the way, we're not employees, Just fans of all things Minnesota (including Tim Walz).

Yelp
Schoolhouse is a company that has outsourced their customer service to an oversees company that basically does customers service like an AI from 2005. They had an item that was "ready to ship" but shipped instead weeks late. They didn't do anything to notify me and instead after waiting for weeks being like "WTF", I asked their terrible customer service --which just started pushing the same generic message to me every day to me. They don't have a phone number to call. They basically want to be as unhelpful as possible, while taking your money. Would you eat at restaurant where they are rude to you and default for a 35% tip? This is schoolhouse electric.

Christine M.

Yelp
This is a fake company. Customer service is not staffed by humans. The products are not in stock and the orders are not fulfilled. Do not purchase anything from this website.

Lisette V.

Yelp
Terrible customer service. It took 21 days to respond to a warranty claim email. My kitchen handles finish is defective. They have a natural brass finish but started getting black spots. They only offered 20% discount in the purchase of the replacement. I sent another email 2 wks ago requesting the claim to be escalated to a supervisor but I am still waiting for a response.

Yelp
Drove two hours today to visit the showroom (each way). When I got there, I discovered that they are "transitioning" to appointment-only. That would be good info to post here on Yelp as well as on their website prominently (& seems they have ALREADY transitioned, as it was 2:30 pm on a Friday afternoon and there was not a soul around). I am ESPECIALLY annoyed because their hours on Yelp say that they were just updated a few days ago-- so they SHOULD have been open from 10-5 today. The barista in the coffee shop attached to the showroom was far less than helpful (he works for another company, but still, would be nice if someone gave him a phone number to call, or helped him out by putting a little more info on the locked showroom door). I went to the website to see if they had any available appointments for the remainder of the day . . . nope. Seems Schoolhouse needs some major training in customer service.

Mira S.

Yelp
Wish I could discredit the other bad reviews but the experience was pretty lackluster. We ordered 2 nightstands during their 20% sale and waited excitingly for two weeks to receive a shipping confirmation. That never came and instead an email explaining our order was canceled due to over selling of the unit. All that was offered was a 10% code for the inconvenience. At the very least I would expect the same 20% off we made the purchase for. When emailing back to ask how this happened and why it took so long to get notice, I never got a response. The product we have bought previously has always been nice but this experience leaves a bad taste and makes me hesitate to purchase from them again.

Mehmet E.

Yelp
their customer service is terrible. I called in today. The lady was so unknowledgeable. She wouldn't even answer the phone she was on the other line. The phone line was alive. Do not shop there they way over prized they don't stand behind their products. I will never go back there.

John B.

Yelp
Cool products, but the customer service is the worst. I am surprised how bad they are. They take forever to ship products, they don't respond to emails, they even discourage you from calling to talk to a representative to find out the status on orders. They say they will respond within 3 business days, but from my experience it is usually 6-7 business days. I wrote a review on their website, and if it is not a 5 star post, they will not publish it. I never take the time to review products or companies, but they are comically bad. Specific examples: I paid for the Hamilton bed 10/2023 for ~$1600. After 2 months of not having received the bed, I emailed them to find out the status of when they will ship, they responded that they decided to stop selling the bed. Shocked they kept my $1600 for 2 months without notifying me that they were not going to fulfill my order. I wonder that if I never emailed them, they would've never been proactive enough to let me know they were not going to ship the bed. Another example I ordered some kitchen accessories 12/2023. They were supposed to be delivered 01/2024 and 02/2024, did not receive. Emailed to find out status, now they will be delivered 03/2024. Did not receive, emailed again, now they will supposedly be delivered 06/2024. Crazy it takes 6 months to receive goods these days when the confirmation order said I would receive 4-6 weeks later. Overall not a pleasant experience with this company, but they are great about sending redundant marketing emails.

Yelp
Made the mistake of ordering 2 pendants for $800. I knew I could have ordered similar lights for $100 but felt for the made in Portland BS. The wrong lights were delivered and we have been unable to reach schoolhouse by phone or email to set up the return. We opened a dispute with AMEX as they will credit us for the charge and deal with Schoolhouse. Stay clear of Schoolhouse, there is nothing special about their overpriced products and their customer service is non existent.

Aimee S.

Yelp
I ordered two sets of sheets from the website, which were listed as being in-stock and according to the website, would ship within 5 days. They processed my credit card immediately, but still two weeks later, there has been no communication about my order and after inquiring with customer service three times, learned that my order was still being manufactured and that they would send another email when it was ready, but no indication of when that might be. Really frustrating experience for fairly expensive sheets. I will never shop here again.

Rosario D.

Yelp
Terrible customer service. Considering their products are not cheap, they really should improve their responsiveness, particularly when they ship a defective product out. As a designer that shopped there for many projects, I cannot recommend buying there anymore as it is not worth the risk.

Yelp
A wolf in sheep's clothing. I found out from my nephew, who used to work there, that a lot of the lighting they sell is made in China; only a portion is actually put together in the US facility in Portland, Oregon. Nothing is actually made on site there, either, just put together with parts from China and I believe the East Coast. As for the quality, we bought a porch light for our cabin last year, and it is already rusting away. This light cost us a whopping $400! The two on our deck cost $80 each, and are not only rust free, but still basically flawless. We are going to replace the Schoolhouse one on the porch with one of these $80 ones, and won't buy from Schoolhouse ever again. It seems to us that this is just a trendy brand with poor quality, ridiculously marked up for people with who have far more money than purchasing sense.

Yelp
Nearly all of the fixtures in my 1907 cottage are from Schoolhouse, but my recent experience has me questioning whether I will shop here again. My 2-star rating is an invitation for someone with power over there to get it together. I ordered a fixture in-store and was told it would be ready in 2-4 weeks. It was not. Attempting to reach a human being on the phone was impossible, emails take several days to get a response that offers zero information, and when I drove to the store to ask about it after 7 weeks, the staff stated they were unsure when it would be ready and there was no way to know. This held up other projects and inconvenienced two contractors (who had been scheduled 7 weeks out, just to be "safe"). 100% of my frustration could have easily been eliminated if Schoolhouse had simply been transparent about their timeline from the jump, communicated with any updates, or offered a bare minimum of customer support. It appears my experience isn't a one-off based on recent reviews and several BBB reports. Ending on a positive note: All of the staff I interacted with were kind people who were clearly just helpless due to screwed up internal issues within the organization. I love the fixture and it is perfectly constructed. It was ready at 8 weeks out.

Yelp
During a big renovation two years ago, we ordered most of our light fixtures, doorknobs, cabinet pulls, and other interior items from Schoolhouse. We now regret this. Many of the light fixtures (particularly the Louise and Annette sconces) flicker even though we fitted them with Schoolhouse bulbs; the LED Allegheny sconce we had installed as a porch light has completely stopped working. The doorknobs we ordered work poorly, and one simply won't stay shut. Schoolhouse products tend to be pricey, and the value for your money is terrible.

Yelp
I've been waiting a month for a clock. I feel like customer "service" was not honest with me about where in the process my order was. Also, when they finally sent me a notification that my clock had shipped, there was no information about where my order was. It seems like fraud to me because they give you a tracking number that has said "in transit" but it doesn't tell you where it is. It's been over a week with no info about where my shipped purchase is. I'll never buy anything from this company again. Very poor service.

McKenzie M.

Yelp
I have never written a review but incredibly upset by the service. We waited 2 months for our couch. It showed up and was damaged but also the wrong couch. We requested a return with a refund. They sent someone to pick up the couch no problem, but have yet to refund our money. I love shopping with small, American made brands but this is so incredibly frustrating. Hey Schoolhouse team, would love my refund asap please.

Sally D.

Yelp
I would give this company a zero if I could. I ordered 2 sconces in mid April and by July I still hadn't received them or seen any emails about shipping. I called customer service and emailed them multiple times and never got a response. They don't answer phones nor do they respond to emails in a timely manner. I finally cancelled the order and will absolutely never do business with them again!
google avatar

David K.

Yelp
Haven't been to the actual retail location, but ditto what everyone else seems to be saying about their online customer service. According to the email I received, the item I ordered was shipped over a month ago. Where or how it was shipped is anyone's guess because the tracking info they provided is invalid and their customer service doesn't respond to emails. (I wish I had the luxury of ignoring customers at my job. It would make my life so much more pleasant.) Sure, I got an auto response saying their customer service is busy "during this season." LOL. *What* season? Spring? This is just their stock response during ALL seasons so that your expectations will be acceptably low. I've ordered a few things from them before, and they were nice (albeit relatively pricey), but never again. If you see something on their website that you absolutely must have, just steel yourself to the very real possibility that their customer service will screw the order up and/or ghost you.

Marrena A.

Yelp
Same experience as everyone else is having. I wish I would've read the reviews first. $900 spent on lighting, they sent me completely the wrong thing and I can't reach them. It's been a week. Schoolhouse! Do the right thing and I will remove all of my complaints and reviews. Reach out to me and rectify my order by giving me a refund.

Caroline S.

Yelp
My interior designer recommended a flush mount from Schoolhouse. The initial one came and it had a huge scratch in the center of the glass. I returned it and they said they'd send a new one. The replacement came, and it had the same mark on the glass, plus additional marks and large air bubbles throughout. A supervisor said he'd monitor the next replacement that went out. When the third arrived, it wasn't packed with much protection and was shattered in a million pieces. The fourth version came and had a large dark mark on it (looks like paint). I can't get in touch with a real person and am so disappointed with my entire experience. I've wasted money installing the base of the light fixture, and so much time and energy, and i'm still left with nothing. Would not buy an item from Schoolhouse ever again. Beware.

Sean W.

Yelp
My score is actually a zero. I placed an online order for Pasta Bowls over 11 weeks ago and still have not received them. I've sent multiple emails to customer service and, aside from the fact that it takes weeks for them to respond, their response has been wholly inadequate. I just received an email stating that my order "was making its way through the manufacturing process" (really??) and that they could not provide me with an estimated delivery date. There is no online number to call and their chat bot is ridiculously unsatisfactory. This order was purchased as a gift and the birthday has long passed. I'll never do business with this company again.

Angel G.

Yelp
Terrible customer service. After waiting approximately a month to receive my order, I received a damaged product (damaged in multiple areas: wood chipped, yellow stain, and hole in canvas). I contacted customer service with attached photos and I did not receive a response until after I wrote a negative review. They offered to replace it after I send the damage product back. They said I had to pay $14.99 to return the product and then they would send a replacement. It should not cost me additional money for having to return a damaged product. If Schoolhouse Electric is going to overcharge on goods, they should stand by their product and do what is right. They should send me an undamaged product. It's that simple.

Brinkley T.

Yelp
I placed an order online on January 14 and have yet to receive what I purchased. The same item I purchased is advertised on the site with an estimated shipping date of late April, yet I have received no shipping confirmation as of today, April 15. The supposed online support is useless - they do not respond - and the website also suppresses negative reviews. I can only conclude that this company is engaged in deceptive and fraudulent practices. Beware.

Rachel G.

Yelp
We had a terrible customer experience here and would shop elsewhere in the future. Shipping times on wildly unreliable. When you reach out to their customer service, they are unhelpful and unresponsive. It's clear that this company does not value customer relationships. There are so many other brands to shop with with better service, I would go elsewhere.

Yelp
Received Great Jones Floor Lamp (returnable, $900) after waiting for more than a month with the following defects: 1) The pole is slanted relative to the wooden base, no way found to adjust it - the lamp is not straight when on the floor. (see pictures) 2) The pole finish is inconsistent with fingerprint like smudges (see pictures) that are not dirt or cannot be taken off; 3) The eggshell linen shade came bent up and damaged - although packaging was in good condition. 4) Multiple other issues like E26 socket finish has some fingerprint smudges, poor polishing, screw gaps, etc. 5) Refund was successfully processed after I returned the item. However, the return process was slow, I had to pack both the shade and the lamp into one extra large box as only one label was provided. Massive inconvenience and waste of time. I have to wait for days for a response from customer service, and days to get a label. Overall, the product I received did not meet my expectation for a product given the price of the $900 to the extent I felt ("scammed") compelled to write this review and warn potential customers and potentially help the company grow. The emotional distress and cynicism was high as I never received anything in such a condition as compared to my previous experience. The experience was rather insulting.

Yelp
I love Schoolhouse electric for historic renovations and home accents. Their online store was very useful during the pandemic. The website was easy to navigate and helpful, although I've never tried to return anything. They have unique items which I hope will remain in stock. I recently read about Food 52's acquisition of Schoolhouse. Read more about it here - https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/food52-to-acquire-schoolhouse-in-a-48-million-dollar-deal

Tyler B.

Yelp
This company is terrible - DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS WEBSITE. I have been waiting for two months for them to fulfill an order that was listed as "in stock". Their customer service has either lied or been non-responsive. Ultimately I had to file a dispute through my credit card to get my money back. This company is a farce.

Christopher W.

Yelp
DO NOT SHOP HERE if you value good customer service. The staff is rude and the customer service here is terrible after they were bought out by a large conglomerate.

Beth R.

Yelp
Updating the review below just to say that after living with these lights for a while I can confirm that they were a waste. Some are ok - honestly way, way overpriced for what they are - and others just look a bit junky and I can't believe what we paid. We bought these in the middle of a massive renovation when we were making lots of decisions, and everything looked so elevated on the website. In reality, in my opinion the nicest thing about them is their website. The customer service was terrible and the products are priced to match a quality that I don't personally see. I personally think you could buy Home Depot lights that would be comparable to the ones we have.

Eileen F.

Yelp
Schoolhouse eventually did follow up by phone. They do not seem able to track their fulfillment accurately but the item was delivered

Jason D.

Yelp
I had a poor experience with this company, in particular, a coffee table that I purchased a few years back. The tabletop became progressively more unstabl/wobbly over time. Their customer service department seems uninterested in finding a solution-I have been waiting over a month for a resolution (apparently the service rep is awaiting a response from the "product team"). Overall a poor customer experience. Maybe shop at BluDot instead.

Mary H.

Yelp
We bought two $500 Factory 5 Cable Pendants from Schoolhouse for over our kitchen island. When they arrived and were installed, one pendant was 3/4" longer than the other, a distance that was obvious, since they were right next to each other and at eye level. Our builder measured the distance with a laser level and returned one to have its cable adjusted. After WEEKS of delay, Schoolhouse declined to adjust the cable, saying it was "within spec" and dug in their heels. This would have been a 10 minute fix for them! We consider this extremely bad customer service, and we would strongly recommend against using Schoolhouse to anyone.

John A.

Yelp
customer service is horrible. after waiting 2 months was sent the wrong item. when I contacted customer service, all I got was a response saying no problem just send it back. No suggestion that the correct item would be sent, and no way to contact a person. I will never buy something there again.

Yelp
Exceptational quality and brilliantly executed. Best store in Portland. Timeless inventory who screams heirlooms.

N H.

Yelp
Impossible company. They don't list any phone number, and if you find one by googling, they don't answer. If you email them, they say they will reply in three days! Three days?!!! But also, if you email them, they send not one but THREE instant, automated, emails back. The impression is that defective robots are running this place. Also, they don't tell you when you are ordering something, if it isn't in stock. But they do charge the full amount immediately, regardless. No pending charge until it ships. When you find out your order isn't actually available, they also say they can't cancel it! So according to them, it's ok for you to have neither your money, nor your merchandise. This is an amateurish, unprofessional outfit, with virtually no staff to handle anything. Don't buy anything here! The catalog is so limited, actually, it's easy to avoid buying from them in the first place. But if you do, beware, you can't cancel, and you have no way of knowing when or whether they will deliver! They also seem to have messed up my delivery address! Dreadful.

Yelp
I had purchased their Hasami Black Mug/ Matte Finish and had left a review on their website on 10/31. Here it is 11/23 and that review has not been posted on their website. They are hand picking their reviews, or just so far behind haven't gotten around to posting it yet. Could be either way, judging from my one experience with them. Here is the exact review that I had posted, "This is one *very* good looking mug, but the tactile sensation due to the rough feeling of the Matte Black finish makes it a mug that I do not want to touch or put up to my lips. I used it once, hand washed it and air dried and it spotted/streaked easily and I have soft water. Kudos to Schoolhouse for going above and beyond their stated return policy and gave me full credit for my purchase, including the used cup. I am also somewhat critical of Schoolhouse for a few things: 1) Item was sold as being 'in stock' however took quite a number of days to ship out - I ordered 9/3 and received it on 9/18 2) I sent and email on 9/18 to return the mugs, did not hear anything back until 9/26 after I sent a second email wondering what was going on. These are not particularly good turnaround times at all in my opinion. Back on the positive side, once I did hear back on 9/26 the return process and credit was very reasonably quick. "

Yelp
Hope you're ready to claw your eyes out trying to install one of their ceiling lights. *slaps ceramic* this baby can fit so much ~pain and suffering~ in it. Looks nice though.

Yelp
Giving it a three stars until I see what happens with the new owners. Already seeing some changes in the stock. Fingered crossed- years of loving this high quality hometown favorite.

Yelp
I ordered two Galley Pulls to install on some bifold doors. I have purchased plenty of hardware in the past, but I've never spent $28 on a small pull before. However, I loved the design, so I bought them. I expected the quality of these pulls to at least be as good as a $3 pull from a big box store. Boy was I wrong. These are absolute garbage! They came to me brand new with paint missing. See the pictures. After I installed them, I looked at my hands, and they were filthy...the paint from the hardware rubbed off on my hands. The quality of this company's products are complete trash. It's embarrassing that after a purchase they thank you for supporting American manufacturing. I doubt they are made in America, and, if they are, this is nothing to be proud of.

Yelp
Requiring Portlanders to pay for shipping when their store is in town is an insult to those who have been supportive of this business for years. As others have mentioned, this store has remained closed far longer than other businesses and has closed even further by not allowing will-call option just recently. They say it is because of the pandemic, but I believe they are simply trying to cut costs - they must have grown their on-line business during the pandemic and have decided it's not worth it to them to maintain a local presence. I will not shop here again.

Yelp
This is a beautiful store with beautiful, carefully curated items. The selection is very limited , a conscious choice to keep the store clean and well organized. I was disappointed because I came on for a specific item and was referred by the manufacturer. How lucky that they had a store in my town! The dishes I want are made in several colors , and the store was unable to order it. They only carry two colors. I understand their reasons for keeping the show room limited, but it was surprising that they had no way of getting other colors. I prefer to shop local whenever possible.

Yelp
I've been salivating about this place since I first started getting their Hardware-laden emails. The interior and exterior pictures of the old factory building in the heart of still industrial NW Portland also enhanced my desire to come visit the next time I was in Town. That happened on a recent Sunday with my Son in tow. He's well aware of my shopping bug, and was happy to hang out at the handsome Ristretto Roasters that shares the ground floor with the Schoolhouse Electric Show Room. Anna Mara Floral Design is also located here. The Show Room is gorgeous and features iconic furniture, bedding, lamps, table ware, and various other household sundries. They also have a cool little board room space for community meetings and small receptions. Things here are not cheap, but they are a wonder to look at, touch, touch and feel. I wanted some of everything, as the layout and the taste that goes into this place is impressive and in sync with what I like. However, all I left with this time was a cool retro extension cord. Schoolhouse Electric is definitely worth a look and several repeat visits. One idea would be to gather ideas in the Show Room and then spend a few hours at Ristretto Roasters and map out some serious home design ideas over individual drip coffee. In the meantime, I'm looking at their catalog right now.

Yelp
I should have looked at the Yelp reviews before being hoodwinked by the admittedly lovely product design. Decided to purchase lighting for our remodeled kitchen here. My experience was in line with folks below who received wildly inaccurate quotes in delivery times. Ordered 3 fixtures on November 10; was quoted in store an approximate delivery time of 2 weeks, and this was also written on the email receipt I received. On November 26 (sixteen days later), I called in an inquiry as to delivery time, since I hadn't gotten an order status update yet. I understand that handmade products might sometimes take longer to deliver, etc.--but as a customer paying a premium for products. I expect at the very least prompt communication about order progress, especially if there is a significant delay in delivery time. The total cost for the three 4" light fixtures was $507.00 (this is not counting the $237.00 we had ALREADY spent on the shades). It took another full day for them to email me back, now quoting an estimated delivery date of December 7, with no explanation or apologies whatsoever for the discrepancy of nearly double the written and verbally quoted delivery time. The only reason this is a two star review instead of one is that Christina in customer service was quite polite through the whole process. I have all the sympathy in the world for folks stuck working customer service for a business that has problems delivering on orders.

Yelp
Everything about Schoolhouse Electric makes me tingle inside. I visited Portland a few months ago for a much-needed hangout with a galpal of mine. I asked her to take a detour to Schoolhouse Electric, which at the time, was having a 20% off sale which made me me feel even more warm in all the right places. Sales...right ladies? Light fixtures, art, couches, beds, cutlery...seriously, they have it all. Their aesthetic is classic, clean, cool, midline-hipster, and sooooo Portland. https://www.schoolhouse.com/ I bought 2 art pieces that day...2 of them hanging on my wall at home: one handmade wordblock print with "Work Hard & Be Nice to People" signed by Anthony Burrill (http://bit.ly/2nMSQPq), and another called "Earth Print" (http://bit.ly/2oLu0V5). I'm in love with both of them. They were having a holiday party at the time. There was a wholesome-hustling S'mores bar, serving different s'mores flavors like peppermint and salted caramel. They had a flower-crown creating corner...errr....was it flower arranging? GOD, isn't that the same thing anyway...with women oooooh'ing and ahhhh'ng at silly little slivers of greenery and floral flourishes. I swearrrrr, I even saw the actor Hunter Parrish (from the show Weeds) walking around in a beanie and extra fruit-hugging cargo pants. I swear I swear I swear. Scout's honor. My galpal was equally enchanted by the Schoolhouse Electric headquarters, thanking me for introducing her to that little piece of scrumptious Portland.
