The 9 Best Bars In Key West

"Schooner Wharf has every trait of a great Keys bar: a waterfront view, live music, cluttered wooden decor, and no shortage of grey-haired men wearing shirts with goofy slogans about drinking. It’s a great place to have a few beers during sunset, but try to get a seat on the second-floor patio if the view is your main priority. If it’s live music you’re after, look for a table near the stage, where you can relax and place your drink order with one of the servers darting around." - ryan pfeffer

We had a great time at Schooner Wharf Bar in Key West! We ordered a dozen oysters for $26 — they were huge, fresh, meaty, and absolutely delicious. We also tried two soups: the clam chowder and the conch chowder. The conch version had a spicy kick and a rich tomato base — definitely something unique. Although they were out of draft beer during our visit, the lively atmosphere more than made up for it. There was live music with guitars playing, which added a really nice touch. We came on a Sunday, and the place was packed — it’s clearly a popular spot. Service was a bit rushed and not very chatty, especially when we asked questions about the menu, but we understand it was a very busy night. Overall, the vibe was fun and the sea breeze made it even more enjoyable. Definitely recommend — great value for the quality!

Google
This is a staple stop for a Key West visit. The musicians and food are always great! I’ve sat at tables and the bar, both have descent service! It’s a busy place - not a fast food restaurant. Come for the atmosphere and a fresh meal!

Google
The food wasn't great. I ordered the Jerk Chicken. It was pretty dry and nothing special. But my virgin Piña Colada was delicious. Nice and thick. The real highlight was the live music and atmosphere. After a long day in the sun, it felt so good to relax and vibe out. Ross Brown was performing when we were there, and he sounded amazing! I'd definitely come back just for drinks or a small bite, enjoy the music, and hang out with the mix of tourists and locals. For that alone, I'm giving this place 5 stars!

Google
Great food, great people awesome music and great atmosphere. We had conch chowder, 12 oysters, key lime pie and virgin rum runners. The best part is they welcomed our Weim Nala with a bowl of ice water and a treat on a very warm day. Thank you everyone! We will definitely be back.

Google
Schooner Wharf Bar is a laid-back Key West gem with live music, gorgeous waterfront views, and a fun, easygoing vibe. It’s the perfect spot to grab a drink, enjoy the breeze, and listen to local bands as the boats come and go. The food is solid with fresh seafood and classic bar bites, and the staff adds to the friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick drink or spending the afternoon soaking up the scene, it’s a must-visit for anyone wanting that true island experience.

Google
Schooner Wharf Bar was recommended to us by a local as an institution. Sure enough, real Key West vibes. Grab a drink, listen to the live band, and all the food we ordered was delicious.

A quick drink visit to Schooner Wharf Bar in key west. Fast service. Great drinks and i believe this has the sign with Franks Magic Bar and they have cigars available for purchase by the docks Cool spot! Definitely a must visit!

Google
Wonderful and unpretentious place to get some good food in a friendly atmosphere. We came here for brunch and shared the captains plate which was plenty of food for both of us. Everything tasted great and the bacon was perfectly cooked.

Yelp
It's both touristy and divey, which is a tough combination to pull off. I would say both alcoholics and kids are welcome here but probably not alcoholic kids. There was live music during our visit, something I always appreciate. The food was far, far better than I expected. The fish and chips comes with two enormous pieces of fried fish. The shrimp BLT comes with a ton of bacon and plenty of shrimp on a beautiful roll. I tried one of the fish melts and, despite my hesitation about mixing fish and cheese, thought it was absolutely delicious. It's also huge. They have a full bar and also offer lots of slushy drinks served in plastic cups. Food is served on paper plates. The patio chairs are plastic and the tables under the covered patio are basically park benches. This place isn't fancy and doesn't pretend to be otherwise. Put on your best t shirt and flip flops and come hungry. The food is far better than you might think.

Yelp
What a treat. After watching the sunset at Mallory Square we were on our way to dinner and passing by this place. All outdoors and the live music being played was perfect for us. We like to listen and watch the performance and also be able to talk. So 5-stars to Schooner Wharf for hiring Ken Fairbrother who is fabulous. Dinner, oh yeah, the piña colada was spot on and my Jameson's was , you know, my Jameson's. We ordered the Cobb salad with house made blue cheese dressing and not only was the dressing perfect they piled on a ton of creamy blue cheese. Finished dinner and it was time to go but the music played on so, time for another round. Pictures? Sure, here's Ken. The salads? Use your imagination, they wee Cobbs!

Yelp
We stopped in on a Sunday evening near sunset and it was super chill. We grabbed a table closest to the water. The vibe here is great and there was also live music which wasn't blaring so it also contributed to the relaxed mood. Dylan helped us and he was super nice and didn't hover - great service. I got a strawberry margarita and my group got a few Dark & Stormy's and a Tom Collins. I know it's weird for Key West, but I did ask for about half the alcohol because even though we were camped for a bit and going to walk after - I was driving later and no one wants to be that person. It was really yummy and the prices were great for being right on the water. I will definitely come back to this bar - it has been one of my favorites so far.

Yelp
Great music venue and spot to get a quick drink. Great location by the famous fish docks. Fun to explore and people watch. I was on a mission to try as many conch fritters and I think they were the best at Schooners Wharf. A great spot to relax, listen to music and enjoy the ocean breeze. This is a very old bar with a lot of history.

Yelp
If you're looking for a very low key spot with some fun live music near the water, head to Schooner Wharf Bar. We stopped by for lunch while waiting to board the Key West Express, so we knew we needed some good food and local color. This place is not fancy by any means, but the service is outstanding (I cannot stress this enough) and the food is very good. It's a seat-yourself place (at least for lunch the day we went), but we didn't wait more than 3 minutes before our server found us, brought us menus and took our drink orders. We were not rushed at all, and had a nice lunch in the sunshine. The portions, especially for the salads, were very large. Everything is served on paper plates with plastic silverware and drinks come in plastic cups...very low maintenance and easy clean-up for the staff. The music can be loud in certain parts of the bar and they do allow (even encourage) smoking since the entire restaurant is outside. I don't love the smell of smoke while I'm eating, especially the cigar smoke from the cigars they sell on premises. But I get that is part of their whole atmosphere and experience. Good to know ahead of time so maybe you can grab a seat away from any active smokers.

Yelp
Loved this spot right by the water on a recent trip down to Key West. My friends and I were riding back to our townhouse rental from Mallory Square and were trying to find a nice place for dinner on our last night before leaving to go home. We could hear the live music and chose to stop here based on the performance and look of the of the place. Service was a little slow due to how busy the place was, but the food was amazing especially for the price. Between the three of us, we ordered two buckets of beer. I was a bit disappointed to see that we were charged for each beer individually rather than given a discount since buckets were advertised. Keep that in mind if you do order. With that being said, I'd happily recommend this place if you ever get the chance to visit this wonderful island!

Yelp
This place is the definition of beach bar. Great outdoor space and AWESOME live music. This Irish man was incredible, kept the crowd live and had the voice of an angel. The college girls from Virginia rave highly about him. Drinks were good and food was good but for me atmosphere is the main attraction. Also server was super welcoming.

Yelp
My friends and I went here twice on the same day. The first time we bopped in for some afternoon drinks. We were waiting at the bar and a waitress came up to my friend and explained she could wait on us or we could order at the bar. My friend said we'd order through the bartender since we were planning to get our drinks to go. For whatever reason that really po'd the waitress and we got sassed about not letting her finish her spiel. We rolled up later in the day (on New Years Eve) and the place was bumpin. Somehow my friend found a table, which was a few seats shy of what we needed for our party. There was a table next to ours with four chairs and two guests. I'm not sure how other to explain what transpired after we asked to use their chairs than quite simply a grown man throwing a hissy fit. It was strange. That being said, our waiter was super nice, the band was awesome and everyone else around us seemed like they were down to have a great time. And the food we ordered was really good. You can't help how other people react. Maybe mercury was in retrograde or whatever people blame weird behavior on but it's just something to note if you ever find yourself at this bar. All in all, the location is great and so are the treats.

Yelp
There is always music and open pretty late., strong bar, beautiful setting, excellent service, decent food. It is largely open air.

Yelp
I loved this place. There is money taped or stapled to almost every piece of ceiling or post in this bar. When you come be sure to add to it. I'm not sure if they have live music every day but each day we were here (over a week's time) there was live music. It's pretty much an open air bar, there is an indoor section but there are also many umbrellas and canopies throughout. You can definitely smoke here. There was a lady rolling and selling cigars right inside here, kind of cool to see. They have a full bar, many beers and even a large signature cocktail list. I'm pretty sure we tried every fruity concoction that they could come up with and they were delicious! We did not eat while we were here but the food looked and smelled good. The next time we are in town we'll have to give their food a try. Our waitstaff was always friendly so that's also an added bonus!

Yelp
The Schooner Wharf Bar is another excellent, quintessential Key West bar. The vibe is perfect. Chill, comfortable with an edge that insanity could present itself at any moment. The solid drinks and interesting staff are huge plusses. The live entertainment is excellent. The bathroom should be condemned. The food is ok, we did not try much so I'm with holding any sharp commentary. The regulars or locals or whoever that wander in and out are great and add to the flavor. It's a great place to jump in for a fast one or to slowly bring things to a boil or to cap off the night. The sun set can also be seen from here, although not the final drop into the sea.

Yelp
What a fun, Key West bar! My husband and I stopped here for drinks and a quick bite after coming back from a long boat ride. We tried a few drinks and shared their combo of oysters and drunken shrimp. The drunken shrimp - absolutely delicious! Service was quick, but not rushed; there was some fantastic live music; and it was just a fun place to people watch!

Yelp
Found a seat quickly, at 7:15 pm on a Tuesday. Just ordered an appetizer and drinks. The Tuna Nachos were great. We ordered rum Punch that was delicious. Not sure we'd stop here for more than the music and an app. Fast Service!
google avatar

Diane C.

Yelp
We stopped for dinner as the place has a cool outdoor vibe and live music. To start, my husband spilled his drink as the waitress was talking our order, she said she'd get another for him. Found out she charged us for both! I ordered the seafood combo, including fried shrimp, coconut shrimp and mahi mahi. No shrimp sauce so I asked for some. Was charged a dollar extra! The mahi was dry and when I complained she did bring me a freshly cooked piece which was much better. There are so many better places to eat in KW! Happy hour has no food and bairly a discount on drinks. The food and prices were a big disappointment, but the location and view of the water is great!

Yelp
This local bar is the best. Attentive workers, great atmosphere, great food and environment. We have been to several other locations around the area. I'm not a Dead Head but the live GD acoustic music played in the middle of a Wednesday afternoon was Really wonderful and brought back lots of memories. The large Drunken shrimp was the bomb and the fried shrimp was highly liked. Great colors on their shirts which are more opaic and less primary or pastel. Check it out. Not for a pretentious meal or small plate presentation on china plates . This is real Key West frontier
google avatar

Beth W.

Yelp
Great place to enjoy some shade and refreshing beverages. We were fortunate to also enjoy live music which added to the island vibe and enjoyment of our day drinking!
google avatar

Yelp
Our first stop in Key West for lunch, and it did not disappoint! This IS a largely outdoor spot, so it will be warm, but our server was fabulous at keeping our water glasses full of cold cold water. She checked in on us regularly without being overwhelming, and our food arrived quickly! My wrap was excellent - pressed to give it a bit of crunch. It was absolutely LOADED with chicken. I definitely felt like I got my bang for my buck here. My lunch companions all really enjoyed their meals, too. This was a great first taste of Key West, we loved the location as well (right on the marina). This is one we will visit again on future trips!
google avatar

Amanda T.

Yelp
Excellent location on the marina. We stopped here as we brought our dog on vacation and they are dog friendly. We ended up eating here 2 nights on the weekend as we love the location, vibe, food and live music. If Rango is working, ask for her to be your server! She is excellent and made both dinners amazing!! We ordered fish tacos and sandwiches and were pretty happy with the food overall. The drinks, location, service and live music make this a must go to on the island.

Debbie G.

Yelp
Good drinks. good food. Very cool laid-back atmosphere. Definitely recommend the quesadillas and jerk chicken. Both were delicious! Live music was amazing.
google avatar

Sav E.

Yelp
We had the peel and eat shrimp and the fish taco/wrap, and it was absolutely delicious. Our server was Ryan and he is such a darling. we sat right by the walkway, looking straight onto the water, which was the best way to spend the afternoon. Oh yeah, and then Music came on, perfect. We recommend finishing the day with a Keylime colada.
google avatar

Yelp
A 25 year favorite. Always good, excellent fish and beers! Short wait despite a crowded night.

Yelp
Best dive bar around be quick to order your drinks the bar tenders are hopping! A little hot but the quick drinks make it worth it. We went here multiple times because we liked the atmosphere. Best fish sandwich I had also! Burgers have a great a great char!

Peter M.

Yelp
Schooner never fails to provide top notch service - pure Key West and outdoes all other local watering holes.
google avatar

Yelp
Great breakfast! Love the atmosphere, being outside and very casual. Very friendly service!! Will return!!

Yelp
This is an experience place. Some people raved about it and said we had to go on our first trip to key west. We got here and the service was very poor. Exceptionally poor at the start. Food was ok. Lots of variety on the menu and great drink menu. All in all it was ok. Eventually we got a server and she was good. This place came so highly recommended I kept it a three. The atmosphere was great and we always know how to have a good time so made up for it. Every restaurant has bad days. Unfortunately we visited on that day.
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
This is a must stop on your Key West trip. Great vibe and the conch fritters were amazing.

Tom M.

Yelp
We come here all the time, we are locals and own numerous properties- they ran our credit card and took our cash saying it was going to drop off, yet has dropped off and we are out 270 dollars cause of this incident. It could just be not credited yet but this is a note to everyone get everything in writing

Yelp
What a wonderful time. The music was great as well as the food and atmosphere. I ordered the blackened Mahi and I requested it be topped avocado and it was the best I've ever tasted. It was spiced perfectly. I highly recommend this. This was one of my favorite restaurants while I visited Key West.

Alexis B.

Yelp
Amazing food. good w allergies dddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd

Yelp
As I was starting to think people working in Key West are crabby I stumbled into the Schooner Wharf Bar. Rango is amazing!! It was a chilly Christmas Eve and thank you for being open. The oysters where fresh and yummy. Conch fritters amazing. We had blackened mahi and fish and chips very good. Drinks were very good! Live band was really good. Thank you Rango. Made our night.

Single Gal S.

Yelp
What a fun night! We had front row seats for a jazz band. Emmy took great care of us and the portions were huge. I recommend getting the plate rather than the sandwich, because you get a lot more food with the three sides.
google avatar

PJ C.

Yelp
We stopped in for some drinks at this quintessential KW dive bar on a lovely Monday afternoon. We couldn't snag a table right at the outer edge but one row in. Though later we moved to the edge when a table became free. Excellent people watching at the busy seaport area. After a bit of a rough start with our waitress who seemed torqued that we didn't know instantaneously what we wanted to drink (they have a nice selection of speciality drinks which needed some study) things smoothed out as the afternoon progressed. I tried their Jamaican Vacation drink which was both delicious and strong. That was followed up with their Mai Tai - also nice. Prices were reasonable for the location. We decided to stick around for an early dinner. I got the grilled mahi mahi sandwich and my wife got the grilled mahi mahi taco wrap - both were solid. This is not a fine dining spot so both met expectations. We also tried a slice of key lime pie - it was pretty pedestrian. If you want a typical KW experience stop here for a drink or two or three.
google avatar

Bethany D.

Yelp
Stopped for an early lunch on a Monday. Was surprised to see double happy hour (before noon and 4-6). Waitress Jackie was friendly and very efficient :) I had a craving for chicken after eating too much "fried" food the last few days, so I ordered the jerk chicken sandwich. Asked for it without the bun and it was the perfect tenderness and flavor. Just what I needed! My husband ordered the blackened Mahi-mahi taco wrap and thought it was delicious. I had a Bloody Mary and thought it was sort of blah. Hubby ordered a vodk mojito w/well vodk thinking it was a part of happy hour, but it wasn't included. Just be sure to ask ahead on HH drinks.
google avatar

Stu F.

Yelp
Great ambiance, live music, great food! We had raw oysters which were clean, fresh, large, and damn tasty. Then a Greek salad with blackened Mahi. Again was excellent. Only downside was all plastic utensils and plastic cups for the rum punch. Not worth loosing and stars though.
google avatar

Sharkyy_Erwin

Yelp
The food was good my daughter really enjoyed the chicken tenders and the fries. I got her a non alcoholic Pina colada and she was mesmerized. She kept asking for another one. The waitress that was serving us was very sweet and gave us extra fries. the scenery was very good it had a stage where this guy would sing and he was very good. 10/10 would definitely recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
Loved this little hide away spot in Key West. The restaurant is right on the water and gives off a really fun/towny vibe. We got 4 dozen oysters and they were bomb great - You could totally tell they were fresh and right off the water. We also got the buffalo fried shrimp and... was not that great. The shrimp tasted like they had been defrosted in pool water and the breading was super soggy. Beers were cheap so that's always a plus! Also the band that was playing was great as well. Definitely a good spot for oysters and beers, not sure about anything else.
google avatar

Tom G.

Yelp
Schooner Wharf Bar is a pretty typical Key West bar a little off the beaten path, off a side road. We stopped in a little later than usual but still needed beverages and a bite. Its a really laid back place with floors that are a mixture of sand and broken up concrete and stone. They have a full bar with a good number of beers in tap, to include local brews as well. Service was pretty good and our drinks, appetizer and food all came out at the proper temperatures in a reasonable time. A music guy was setting up as we were leaving, so live music some (all?) nights. Pricing was about what you would expect in Key West, but not bad.
google avatar

R S.

Yelp
Fun stop on your bar tour. Great oysters, friendly and entertaining staff. Good service.
google avatar

Joyce O.

Yelp
This bar/restaurant has a very Key West feel, with outdoors seating covered by colorful umbrellas. There was a musician performing when we arrived and we decided it looked like a good place to hang out for a while. The rum runners we ordered were served up quickly and the chips and salsa were tasty. I wish we could have stayed a little longer because I loved the atmosphere.
google avatar

Jason Z.

Yelp
Schooner Wharf in Key West is an absolute gem! The atmosphere is electric, setting the perfect stage for an incredible time. And let's talk about Vicki, the bartender - a true magician behind the bar, serving up the coldest Corona Light with a smile that adds to the warmth of this fantastic place. But that's not all; Tony Baltimore's entertainment is simply unmatched! His performances elevate the entire experience, making every visit a memorable one. Schooner Wharf is a must-visit for anyone seeking a great time, cold drinks, and top-notch entertainment in Key West!
google avatar

Melissa N.

Yelp
Somewhere between a 2 and a 3. I have been to Schooner numerous times, mostly when I have guests. They all seem to want to go here. If it's your first time in Key West or you haven't been here in many years, sure go try it. I understand its popularity; it's fun, it's located right on the marina, there's live music. I tried many of their menu items, but sadly, I haven't been really satisfied with any of the meals. Now I just stick to the appetizers. Try the nacho bean dip or the buffalo shrimp, those are usually pretty good. Service is usually friendly but kind of slow. It's not my favorite place to eat in the Keys. I recommend just get a drink and enjoy the dockside views and music.

Erin L.

Yelp
Great place enjoyed the live music and outdoor ambiance. Server Lindsey was great as well.

Yelp
Awesome fast service great food and drinks were great!!! the fish and vegetables were amazing thank you!!!

Yelp
People just Looove them some Schooner's, that's for sure, this place is always ridiculously busy. Me, not so much. To me, they're all right, they're okay. It's just one of those places to be and of the few places drink prices are actually reasonable in the Keys. I think I've been here at least half a dozen times in the last year, usually with friends who always want to make it a Mecca stop on their trip here. It's just not for me, I guess. Doesn't help the last drink I bought here sucked so much. A fetid Bloody Mary, that'll put a taste in your mouth. Bleh! Was probably a one off mistake but it's what they gave me. Anyway, the place does have a lot of character. And everyone's always been very friendly, which is nice.

Karen S.

Yelp
Excellent breakfast. Highly recommend the veggie omelet and coffee was perfect! Enjoyed breakfast while watching the boats take off in the morning. A must go to! Service was spot on too!

Jeff M.

Yelp
Great location on the water, terrible service. Our group went in for a drink and bartender said we were a pain in the @$$ because of the amount of drinks we ordered. They won't have to worry about that again
google avatar

Linda J.

Yelp
I'm sure this is a fun place to visit, but this was the worst food we've had in Key West. Both my shrimp and my husband's seafood were seriously overcooked, to the point where they were borderline inedible. The coconut shrimp was supposed to come with mango salsa. I don't know if they accidentally gave me the wrong sauce, or if it's supposed to be a sort of horseradish ketchupy concoction, but it certainly wasn't mango anything. So go for the drinks, by all means, but eat dinner somewhere else (anywhere else) first.
google avatar

Leisa L.

Yelp
Fun, awesome atmosphere, great service, good cold beer! Awesome oysters. People are so kind and friendly here

Yelp
I always try and make it to Schooner Wharf Bar while I'm visiting Key West. That being said the last experience was somewhat of a bummer. Granted, it was very late and we were one of the last tables seated. We sat down and ordered drinks with one server and were told the kitchen was closing soon. No worries! We ordered quick- or tried to. Once our drinks were dropped off we were told the gentleman that delivered them was not, in fact, the server that was supposed to be taking care of us. Okay... so we waited. Finally another server came over and told us, again, that the kitchen was about to close and he wasn't sure if they'd accept our food order. We put in some oysters, tuna nachos and fish and chips once we got confirmation from the kitchen that they'd accept our food order. This is because we were seated right in front of the kitchen and the kitchen staff had been watching us sit there for 20 minutes. Thank you kitchen staff! The food came in out in a decent amount of time. The oysters were good, as always. My fiancés fish and chips were burned and he didn't enjoy them very much. The tuna nachos were great except for a few chunks of fatty tuna that were hard to eat. After we were done with our food our server rushed us the check and told us that if we wanted to have some more drinks we were "more than welcome to move to the bar." AKA please vacate the table. So we moved and continued our night at the bar. We had a couple of drinks and played some songs on the juke box. The bartenders were okay and somewhat slow especially since there wasn't a lot of people there. The drinks were great though!! It's an outdoor bar so i wouldn't recommend trying it out while the weathers bad. They kept 3 stars because I've never had a bad experience in my times visiting before and I'm hoping this was a fluke since it was so late. Im definitely going back next time I'm on the island.
