"Originally founded in 1948, Schoop’s is a regional chain with 14 locations in Illinois and Indiana. With that information alone, one might (accurately) guess that the hit regional chain serves up a serious smash burger. Fans rave about its crispy edges, griddled to lacy perfection, along with decadent shakes and sundaes." - Naomi Waxman, Eater Staff

This Place was AMAZING. The waitress/owner was phenomenal. The Irish Nachos/Fries was Freaking Fabulous 💃🏽🔥. The Burgers was fresh but a little dry, other then that, the food was Absolutely Amazing and Service Was Beyond Amazing. Me and My family drove 30 minutes to eat here and it was so worth it. I will definitely be back. Best Burgers & Service Around💯💖

Stopped at Schoops on a Sunday evening. Not too busy, however, it took a while for the lady to take our order. It seems like she was running both the cash register & waitressing. Despite the delay, she was friendly & patient while taking our order. Once our food was brought to us, it did not disappointment. Definitely a good alternative to those chain fast-food restaurants. Will definitely visit again.

Google
The food is always good and made fresh to each order. The owner is friendly and makes you feel welcome. The Irish Nachos are delicious! 4 of us were there tonight and ordered burgers, BLT’s, Irish Nachos, and onion rings. Always great food and a great place to go.

What a great 60’s vibe hamburger restaurant. Fast service, hot fresh burger & fries & chicken sandwich. Clean establishment with friendly staff as well.

Every time we go, Maria remembers us. We don't go that often which is why it tickles me. She is always so sweet and patient. The food is classic. Freshly made, never had any issues. Our fries were always crisp and hot, not dried out. Burgers are always made to order and the patties are hand made and pressed. Super thin patties with crispy, buttery edges. Yummy! The softdrinks are well balanced. My kids love getting cherry coke because it's made fountain style with maraschino cherries. We feel like family and really enjoy the food. What's not to love? We will continue to visit as long as they are in business!

I decided to stop by the one in Tinley Park after being in the area. I am a fan of the Calumet City location. I got it to go of course. The customer service was wonderful. She was nice, and very welcoming. The cheeseburger was good, and the fries. I did not dip in the bag for fries while driving. Please make sure you give this place a try when you're in Tinley Park.

Google
This franchise location is the worst! They make their own hours, choose who they want to serve, and the "owner" is just rude. I've dined there before and tried to support our local businesses but they are slow.....she is the only server and the food takes forever, maybe they can't keep up. The website says they close at 9, get there and the door says they close at 830, but my family couldn't get sat at 740....owner says she closes whatever time she wants after 8. I do NOT recommend this location. The one in Monee is a lot more friendlier and family oriented.

Google
The food sadly has been HORRIBLE lately. The last 3 times I have ordered they have made my food wrong. You ask for grilled onions instead of regular onions and they mock you by putting no onions on your burger while wrapping up plain regular onions in paper as some sick joke. The cheeseburger which I paid more for to have extra cheese, HAD NO CHEESE AT ALL. Not to mention the meat was extremely dry and stale. DISGUSTING. This has been happening the last 3 times I have ordered. They clearly do not care about their business and must really hate their job. Find somewhere else to work because honestly, if asking for grilled onions instead of raw onions upsets you this much too purposely ruin someone's order.... you have some major mental issues. SPEND YOUR MONEY SOMEWHERE WHERE THEY ACTUALLY CARE. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE UNLESS YOU WANT GARBAGE NASTY FOOD. I have given them 3 CHANCES BEFORE LEAVING THIS REVIEW. I TRIED TO CALL EACH TIME AND NO ONE EVE ANSWERS. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE. YOU WILL REGRET IT AND THE FOOD IS NOT GOOD ANYMORE. THIS PLACE HAS GONE TO TRASH OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS. SUCH A SHAME.

Yelp
Nice place to sit down and eat at, has a retro diner vibe to it. Very friendly staff, courteous and professional, if anything is wrong with your order they will make it right. Their sandwiches and soups are great, but I thought the garden salad was a bit bland. Needs more types of vegetables like romaine, onions, and mild peppers.

Yelp
I was heading home after a hard day of car repairs, and needed dinner. I spotted this place on the east side of Harlem south of 159th a way, and dove in. This is a storied restaurant, originally starting in Calumet City, and now expanding to Tinley Park. There is a mural on the north wall with Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, the old Route 66 movie theater and art of the Chicago Skyline. How's THAT for ambiance. Seating is at the counter or with tables or booths, and was comfortable. The Chicago Tribune review on the wall recommended their Bacon Double Cheeseburger, but with 2 x 1/2 lb hamburger patties, that was too much for me, so I went with their cheeseburger and fries, with a Cherry Shake. The burger was HUGE. It overlapped the bun by at least an inch in all directions. I ordered it the Schoops way - with ketchup, mustard, diced onions (fresh) and piccalilli. It was very tasty, very messy, and just pure good hamburger fun. The fries were very large for a small order - it would have fed two, no problem. The Cherry Shake was tasty and cold, just what I needed after working in the sun all day. Service was good - I was greeted when I sat down, provided with a menu, and provided with several glasses of water, since I was pretty dried out. All in all, a good visit - next time, I hope to bring someone else with.

Yelp
Well despite the long travel from the north side. this location for the first time compared to the other locations both the Tinley Park Mall they close and the one in Calumet City have two different ambiences. I feel like I'm going to either potbelly or corner bakery the way the setup is or maggiano's whereas with the one in the mall it feels like a typical food court setup and then the one in Calumet City feels more like a hole in the wall but nevertheless if the food is consistent with the hamburgers complaining. Well so far the food has been very good and I was really hungry for lunch. Originally I wanted to come here on Labor Day Monday for dinner but they close too early by the time I reach going here. So I decided to come today I was greeted nicely to the server who asked if I was going to be dining in there checking out and I told her I was dining in. She was the only one serving despite the place starting to get busy for lunch. Otherwise the double cheeseburger was delicious the way they cooked it and was satisfying. I've been to so many franchises for hamburgers it's either I don't know how it's been cooked for double cheeseburgers but you know compared to Culver's which is also good as well as that burger joint or even steak and Shake which I went last week they were good hamburgers but they weren't filling and they charge a lot equivalent to a shoots double cheeseburger around $11 I don't want to gain weight but at the same time I feel like I need to get more bang for my buck on what I spend for fast food as well as the quality of how the cooking goes on making a hamburger. 4 out of 5 stars because I guess I expected the root beer float to be served in a glass or glass mug or milk shake glass and it was served in your typical wax cup. Otherwise if they serve the root will float that way I would have been happy or I could have gotten their famous green river soda

Yelp
I have gotten carry out a few times at the Tinley location. While the burgers are always very good. I am a soup person and love chicken dumpling soup and I would get this when available but the last two times recently it was mostly just broth with very little chicken and maybe one dumpling. Needless to say highly disappointed.

George P.

Yelp
Fries had rocks in them, I almost broke a tooth. Terrible experience, although the place was clean and the workers seemed nice.

Ann G.

Yelp
Tinley Schoops is an old school diner with classic booths and retro murals on the walls. Always clean, and the service is warm and friendly. One of my favorite eats is a good old fashioned burger and fries, and for me this is the only place to go! The burgers are juicy and generous - look hand patted and taste like real meat! Want everything on it? They've got it! The bun is fresh and tasty - a bit shiny like brioche, and fries are large, smooth cut and delicious. Not the place to go if you like franken foods or complaining! Here you go back to the place and time of the friendly neighborhood diner, where the food is yummy, and people smile and speak to one another. A treasure

Alicia G.

Yelp
Takes me back to a time in the 90's when diners were more popular. Such a cute, clean, fun, & friendly place. We enjoyed our burgers and shakes and it definitely ranks high for deliciousness. Very well made burgers. Not just juicy but full of any toppings you ask for. Chili fries were bland but still ok. Highly recommend for a great burger.

Bernie C.

Yelp
This place sucks. The burger was awful. It was overpriced, and the atmosphere felt like someone just died. I don't know what the hell is wrong with the people who manage this place. It felt sad, and there was no music. I thought Schoops was supposed to be fun? I will not be returning to this location. I do not recommend this place to anyone.

Jaclyn W.

Yelp
This was my first time ever trying this place. I've heard a lot of good things from other people so I wanted to give it a try. The burgers are actually pretty big, and they do really fill you up. Unfortunately I felt like the actual meat itself had very little flavor. It tasted good with all the condiments, but if you just try the meat alone it didn't taste like anything. I also did not really care for their fries. My fries tasted like they were refried. This place reminds me a lot like Steak 'n Shake, but I think Steak n Shake burgers are a little bit better and definitely a lot cheaper.

Pam D.

Yelp
The burgers and the service are great and always consistent. Love the owner, she takes time to get to know her customers and we love her!

Patricia P.

Yelp
The food and service are amazing! The owner is FANTASTIC! We come for the delicious burgers, cheese fries, and the Green River shakes. One of our favorite places to have family dinner.

Julie L.

Yelp
The food is really good. The owner is friendly. It's decorated with 50s Era motiff. We enjoy the casual environment. The prices are reasonable!

Dwaun D.

Yelp
Simply the best burger you could possibly buy. I was upset that they are no longer in the mall but this location is unbelievable good

Megan C.

Yelp
I have been here twice now. The first time was a fine in and waited over an hour when it wasn't busy. This time I opted for takeout I was told 20 mins and again over a half an hour and it's not busy

Chris W.

Yelp
This place has great service and even better food. It is also very clean and they are very mindful of their customer's needs. I would go back any day! 10/10 thank you so much Schoop's!

Chiris M.

Yelp
Retro dine in area. 1/2 lb burgers. Huge onion rings. Milkshakes rich in taste. What else can I ask for! Delicious food. I'll definitely come back!!

Jay D.

Yelp
I have been a customer here for quite a few years and had the honor of meeting the wonderful waitress who works here (I will not disclose her name because that is personal). Every time I visit, she is always serving my family and I with so much welcome and warmth. I will never stop showing my support here because I believe that great customer service is something that is hard to come across. The food and ambience is just a plus! Please, if you're a stickler for awesome customer service and tasty food, DON'T think twice about coming here. JUST DO IT .

Todd S.

Yelp
What a find!! Got the Schoop's Mickey burger with mayo and fried egg on top. Was awesome!! The burger is big and great quality. Also had to try the nacho fries once I read the description.. did not disappoint! I was by myself and sat at the counter. Has a very clean dinner feel to the place. A+

Jon J.

Yelp
Burger is good but needs seasoning. Onion rings, fries, bacon etc are blah. Maria is an amazing personality. Cheese sauce, ketchup, ranch is very bland.

Mike S.

Yelp
Food was really good and reasonably priced. Waitress was so nice it made our day. Will definitely come back when visiting Tinley park.

Sandra W.

Yelp
Went yesterday for "National Cheeseburger Day". Don't usually eat burgers out as most I have had are not good! But we gad eaten years ago in Lansing at Schoops so thought we would try it again. My friend and I went and of course ordered cheeseburgers, fries and onion rings. Waitress was fast and very friendly. I think she was the owner. Burgers were best I have had!!!! Just like years ago. Hot and good with lots of condiments and not greasy like some. Hot and crispy rings and fries. When we return I will go back for more. Probably the only place I will ever eat a burger! Try it- you won't be disappointed!

Ed A.

Yelp
We ordered our food at 5:50 it's 6:45 and we can't get anybody to help us or answer our phone. I'm hoping we didn't lose our money as we prepaid. I will never come here again.

Sarah L.

Yelp
Very clean and nice employees ! Burger and fries were very delicious ! Nice to give my money to a small shop liek this!

Nancy B.

Yelp
Was really looking forward to trying Schoops. My husband and myself were very dissapointed. Waited forever for our food, (we were the only ones in the restaurant during lunch time). Food finally came , fries were cold , burger's edges were so "CRISPY", We were cutting the heck out of our mouths. Neither one of us couldn't take another bite, and that is very unusual for my husband!! Just quietly paided our bill and left never to return again!

Christopher G.

Yelp
I've always loved Schoops, and there aren't many locations in the immediate area. The burgers and chicken tenders are great, and the restaurant is styled in a quaint 50's diner theme. During COVID, they've had pick up so I've been able to continue enjoying the food!

Ja B.

Yelp
I went to Schoops in Tinley Park today. I ordered a cheeseburger, fries and a drink. The order was ready in 10 minutes as promised. While the burger could have been seasoned better, l enjoyed the food.

Srr 7.

Yelp
We are long time fans of Schoops burgers, but the Tinley location is far and away our favorite. Maria runs her restaurant with professionalism, but also with a warm and welcoming demeanor that is just pure hospitality. The quality of the food here is so consistently good, I've never had a bad meal. The Mickey, grilled chicken salad, fries and cheese sauce is our go to meal and we are sad when we are finished ;) Cheers to this wonderful local establishment, they've worked hard to make it through covid shutdowns and their hard work and passion are evident. I'd encourage anyone who loves good food to stop in or order take out to support this local gem.

Amanda V.

Yelp
Great food..TERRIBLE SERVICE AND MANAGERS. Manager yells and bitches at her servers in front of costumers and makes their business look HORRIBLE!! I feel bad for the servers and the onion rings are soaked in grease. Appetizers come late. Rather do carry out. Check your sh*t before leaving!

Jim B.

Yelp
The poor wait staff will close this place, just like they did to the Lindy' that was there before Schoops. Ordered a double bacon cheeseburger and Irish Nachos. The cheese machine was broken so the burger sat on the counter getting cold while everyone there tried to fix the cheese machine. There was no heat lamp for the food. Even the cook was banging pans in the kitchen to try and move the employees into action without any success. A 30 minute wait for a burnt dry burger with black colored bacon that was so dry it was painful to eat. Will watch for a new restaurant in this spot in a couple of months.

Rae K.

Yelp
I've only ever had positive experiences here. The food is always delicious, very good burgers and fries. The burgers are super flavorful and filling. Everything always tastes fresh. Everyone I've encountered has always been very friendly! My order is always correct. I don't have anything bad to say. I love this place!

Bob C.

Yelp
Still my favorite burger! Give this local burger joint a try you won't be disappointed. In my opinion Shoops is better than 5 Guys. The fries and shakes are very good also.

Kevin P.

Yelp
Food was real good. Burgers were the best, fries were ok. Kids had a couple of hotdogs, they seemed ok. Loved the charred edges on the patties. (and they weren't even that charred for us to complain about like others.) Service was ok, they shouldn't stay seated to eat while they have customers though, just take a bite swallow and come back and check on your tables. Would have been 5 stars, just little pricey but everything seems to cost more here up north.

Mark K.

Yelp
Not bad. Chili was ok. Nothing great. Burger was very good. Did a double with bacon. Service was good. Onion rings were so so. Seemed over done. I think my boy would love it. Had the mickey, a double bacon cheese, 2 ice teas, a cup of chili and onion rings. $43 with tip. Kinda pricey.

Cher V.

Yelp
Delicious food. Very clean. Pleasant atmosphere. Service was great. We are here every week and besides burgers, come in for the wonderful soup and fried mushrooms.

Colleen M.

Yelp
Quaint 50s style diner. Great food prepared fresh, and still available for carry out during the COVID 19 crisis. The owner is there all day, every day, so the quality of food and service is always top notch.

Mark B.

Yelp
The burgers are rather good & have tasty, fresh ingredients. The service by our waitress, Maria, was absolutely superior. I've not had any wait staff that pleasant and attentive towards me in a very long time. The friends that I had with me wholeheartedly agreed. Overall, a wondrous experience. Thank you, Maria!

Brian N.

Yelp
My co-workers went there today. One spoke highly of it, but the one I sit next to says its awful. I went to Panera so I really have no dog in this fight!

Wade L.

Yelp
Too pricey and not good enough. Burgers are burnt along the edges and they take forever to make them. Waitress is slow. Onion rings are all grease. Asked for grilled onions and they would not make them for me. Obviously they have a grill and they have onions how difficult could that be??? NEVER EVER GOING BACK THERE AGAIN!!!!

Orlando P.

Yelp
I am so glad this location opened. They closed the one in Chicago Heights, so I have to venture out for their burgers. But let me tell you, it's so worth it!!

Julie R.

Yelp
Drive a little further down Harlem to Five Guys for a real burger. No seasoning. Burnt beyond recognition. Hope they can turn it around

Lynn M.

Yelp
Excellent service, delicious milk shakes, and freshly made hamburgers! The restaurant is clean with that old feel hamburger shop decor. We will be visiting again!

Debbie T.

Yelp
Food was excellent, hot and delicious. Love the crispy edges on the burger! Fries done to perfection. This was a Saturday at around 3:30 - only a few other customers. The only downfall was the workers were just standing around or checking their cell phones while the floor really needed a sweeping/washing. My Husband and I had to move to a different table because under the booth we initially sat at there was dropped food on the ground and the floor was slippery from it! Wipe up the booths and floor better and more often and this place would be the bomb!

Donna M.

Yelp
I've been going to Schoops for years have always enjoyed the burgers. The old fashion decor is always fun along with getting a green river to drink. Our waitress was very accommodating I believe her name is Maria will definitely go back.

Thomas S.

Yelp
A lot better than most chains. I like simple, and quiet places with the 50's and 60's retro look. A lot of burger for your buck, and they have Green River pop too. I've been to several of their locations through out the years, and they are very consistent. Note- Some of the bad review's I've read sound like temporary staff problems they had at other locations. They were quick to replace the defective staff. That can happen anywhere. I never rate a place by one bad experience. Good help can be hard to find.

Sean O.

Yelp
Food was greasy and smashed down. Over priced fast food, drive down the road to Portillos for some good food

Sue B.

Yelp
Called in our order for pickup on a Friday evening. There was all kinds of confusion with two people taking my order and being put on hold during the order taking. Was told 15 minutes, although we waited 25 minutes for our order. Fries were inedible...who has EVER had inedible fries?! My hamburger had a ton of pickle relish on it....I think this was their pickle. The burger was a thick lump with the bun smushed onto it...could not finish eating it. Again, who has EVER not finished eating a burger?! My son's cheese for the fries was tasteless. Will NOT be going back.

John S.

Yelp
Delicious food. Very clean. Super friendly kids working here. Young man and young lady so friendly and polite. It was a pleasure to visit here. Used to visit Palos Hills on 95th street years ago. Glad they still got it! Delicious

Lisa D.

Yelp
Very poor service at this Schoop's today. Went there around 3:00 (because we didn't want to wait 20-30 minutes when we first stopped in at 1:00!!). Not crowded ... pokey taking our order and pokey serving the food. My husband ordered a regular size cheeseburger but got the junior size (which is what my daughter and I ordered). Buns were fresh. Some of the fries were hot, some were not! Waitress did not check back on us. We'll give them one more try, as we're hopeful for improvement.

Ryan K.

Yelp
Service was great and food was great! We had a very nice young man as our server and he was great. Didn't get his name. It's great to have this location close to our house. We can now pass on Schoop's to our kids as my wife grew up with their burgers.
